The aim of this note is to prove that the parabolic closure of any subset of a Coxeter group is a parabolic subgroup. To obtain that, several technical lemmas on the root system of a parabolic subgroup are established.
We prove that even Coxeter groups, whose Coxeter diagrams contain no (4,4,2) triangles, are conjugacy separable. In particular, this applies to all right-angled Coxeter groups or word hyperbolic even Coxeter groups. For an arbitrary Coxeter group W, we also study the relationship between Coxeter generating sets that give rise to the same collection of parabolic subgroups. Let $W$ be an arbitrary Coxeter group, possibly of infinite rank. We describe a decomposition of the centralizer $Z_W(W_I)$ of an arbitrary parabolic subgroup $W_I$ into the center of $W_I$, a Coxeter group and a subgroup defined by a 2-cell complex. Only information about finite parabolic subgroups is required in an explicit computation. Given a reflection $r$ in a Coxeter group $W$ (possibly of infinite rank), we consider the subgroup of $W$ generated by the reflections in $W$ having (-1)-eigenvectors orthogonal to the (-1)-eigenvector of $r$. In this paper, we determine completely when this subgroup is finitely generated, by using preceding results on centralizers of reflections. This result provides a new and naturally constructed example of a family of non-finitely generated subgroups of finitely generated groups.

Let (W,S) be a Coxeter system of finite rank (ie |S| is finite) and let A be the associated Coxeter (or Davis) complex. We study chains of pairwise parallel walls in A using Tits' bilinear form associated to the standard root system of (W,S). As an application, we prove the strong parallel wall conjecture of G Niblo and L Reeves [J Group Theory 6 (2003) 399--413]. This allows to prove finiteness of the number of conjugacy classes of certain one-ended subgroups of W, which yields in turn the determination of all co-Hopfian Coxeter groups of 2--spherical type.
We consider a cocompact discrete reflection group $W$ of a CAT(0) space $X$. Then $W$ becomes a Coxeter group. We prove that a parabolic subgroup $P$ contained in another parabolic subgroup $P'$ of an Artin group $A$ is a parabolic subgroup of $P'$. This answers a question of Godelle which is not obvious despite appearances. In order to achieve our result we construct a set-retraction $A \to P$ of the inclusion map from a parabolic subgroup $P$ into $A$. This retraction was implicitly constructed in a previous paper by Charney and the second author.
