We consider a class of jump-diffusion processes, constrained to a polyhedral cone $G\subset\R^n$, where the constraint vector field is constant on each face of the boundary. The constraining mechanism corrects for ``attempts'' of the process to jump outside the domain. Under Lipschitz continuity of the Skorohod map Γ, it is known that there is a cone \mathcalC such that the image Γϕof a deterministic linear trajectory ϕremains bounded if and only if \dotϕ\in\mathcalC. Denoting the generator of a corresponding unconstrained jump-diffusion by \cll, we show that a key condition for the process to admit an invariant probability measure is that for x\in G, \cll \id(x) belongs to a compact subset of \mathcalC^o.
For positive recurrent jumping-in diffusions with large jumps, we study scaling limits of the fluctuations of inverse local times and occupation times. We generalize the eigenfunctions with modified Neumann boundary condition, which have been introduced in the previous study for small jumps, to a class of diffusions of stronger singularity.
For positive recurrent jumping-in diffusions with small jumps, we establish distributional limits of the fluctuations of inverse local times and occupation times. For this purpose, we introduce and utilize eigenfunctions with modified Neumann boundary condition and apply the Krein-Kotani correspondence.
We develop and analyze a class of unbiased Monte Carlo estimators for multivariate jump-diffusion processes with state-dependent drift, volatility, jump intensity and jump size. A change of measure argument is used to extend existing unbiased estimators for the inter-arrival diffusion to include state-dependent jumps. Under standard regularity conditions on the coefficient and target functions, we prove the unbiasedness and finite variance properties of the resulting jump-diffusion estimators. Numerical experiments illustrate the efficiency of our estimators.
This paper develops stability and stabilization results for systems of fully coupled jump diffusions. Such systems frequently arise in numerous applications where each subsystem (component) is operated under the influence of other subsystems (components). This paper derives sufficient conditions under which the underlying coupled jump diffusion is stable. The results are then applied to investigate the stability of linearizable jump diffusions, fast-slow coupled jump diffusions. Moreover, weak stabilization of interacting systems and consensus of leader-following systems are examined.
We study the jump-diffusion CIR process, which is an extension of the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross model and whose jumps are introduced by a subordinator. We provide sufficient conditions on the Lévy measure of the subordinator under which the jump-diffusion CIR process is ergodic and exponentially ergodic, respectively. Furthermore, we characterize the existence of the $κ$-moment ($κ>0$) of the jump-diffusion CIR process by an integrability condition on the Lévy measure of the subordinator.
Polynomial jump-diffusions constitute a class of tractable stochastic models with wide applicability in areas such as mathematical finance and population genetics. We provide a full parameterization of polynomial jump-diffusions on the unit simplex under natural structural hypotheses on the jumps. As a stepping stone, we characterize well-posedness of the martingale problem for polynomial operators on general compact state spaces.
In this note, we consider the necessary and sufficient condition for viability property of diffusion processes with jumps on closed submanifolds of $R^{m}$ with some concrete examples.
Given a symmetric diffusion process and a jump process on the same underlying space, is there a subordinator such that the jump process and the subordinated diffusion processes are comparable? We address this question when the diffusion satisfies a sub-Gaussian heat kernel estimate and the jump process satisfies a polynomial-type jump kernel bounds. Under these assumptions, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on the jump kernel estimate for such a subordinator to exist. As an application of our results and the recent stability results of Chen, Kumagai, and Wang, we obtain parabolic H…
In this paper we show that two-sided heat kernel estimates for a class of (not necessarily symmetric) diffusions with jumps are stable under non-local Feynman-Kac perturbations.
This work develops asymptotic properties of a class of switching jump diffusion processes. The processes under consideration may be viewed as a number of jump diffusion processes modulated by a random switching mechanism. The underlying processes feature in the switching process depends on the jump diffusions. In this paper, conditions for recurrence and positive recurrence are derived. Ergodicity is examined in detail. Existence of invariant probability measures is proved.
We consider a time inhomogeneous Cox-Ingersoll-Ross diffusion with positive jumps. We exploit a branching property to prove existence of a unique strong solution under a restrictive condition on the jump measure. We give Laplace transforms for the transition probabilities, with an interpretation in terms of limits of mixtures over Gamma laws.
We provide necessary and sufficient first order geometric conditions for the stochastic invariance of a closed subset of R^d with respect to a jump-diffusion under weak regularity assumptions on the coefficients. Our main result extends the recent characterization proved in Abi Jaber, Bouchard and Illand (2016) to jump-diffusions. We also derive an equivalent formulation in the semimartingale framework.
This work examines a class of switching jump diffusion processes. The main effort is devoted to proving the maximum principle and obtaining the Harnack inequalities. Compared with the diffusions and switching diffusions, the associated operators for switching jump diffusions are non-local, resulting in more difficulty in treating such systems. Our study is carried out by taking into consideration of the interplay of stochastic processes and the associated systems of integro-differential equations.
We derive Wasserstein distance bounds between the probability distributions of a stochastic integral (Itô) process with jumps $(X_t)_{t\in [0,T]}$ and a jump-diffusion process $(X^\ast_t)_{t\in [0,T]}$. Our bounds are expressed using the stochastic characteristics of $(X_t)_{t\in [0,T]}$ and the jump-diffusion coefficients of $(X^\ast_t)_{t\in [0,T]}$ evaluated in $X_t$, and apply in particular to the case of different jump characteristics. Our approach uses stochastic calculus arguments and $L^p$ integrability results for the flow of stochastic differential equations with jumps, without relyi…
This work develops Feynman-Kac formulas for a class of regime-switching jump diffusion processes, in which the jump part is driven by a Poisson random measure associated to a general Lévy process and the switching part depends on the jump diffusion processes. Under broad conditions, the connections of such stochastic processes and the corresponding partial integro-differential equations are established. Related initial, terminal, and boundary value problems are also treated. Moreover, based on weak convergence of probability measures, it is demonstrated that a sequence of random variables rela…
We prove a functional non-central limit theorem for jump-diffusions with periodic coefficients driven by strictly stable Levy-processes with stability index bigger than one. The limit process turns out to be a strictly stable Levy process with an averaged jump-measure. Unlike in the situation where the diffusion is driven by Brownian motion, there is no drift related enhancement of diffusivity.
In this paper, we consider a multidimensional ergodic diffusion with jumps driven by a Brownian motion and a Poisson random measure associated with a pure-jump Lévy process with finite Lévy measure, whose drift coefficient depends on an unknown parameter. Considering the process discretely observed at high frequency, we derive the local asymptotic normality (LAN) property.
In this paper, we study the homogenization of a diffusion process with jumps, that is, Feller process generated by an integro-differential operator. This problem is closely related to the problem of homogenization of boundary value problems arising in studying the behavior of heterogeneous media. Under the assumptions that the corresponding generator has vanishing drift coefficient, rapidly periodically oscillating diffusion and jump coefficients, that it admits only "small jumps" (that is, the jump kernel has finite second moment) and under certain additional regularity conditions, we prove t…
Sufficient conditions for a symmetric jump-diffusion process to be conservative and recurrent are given in terms of the volume of the state space and the jump kernel of the process. A number of examples are presented to illustrate the optimality of these conditions; in particular, the situation is allowed to be that the state space is topologically disconnected but the particles can jump from a connected component to the other components.
This work is devoted to almost sure and moment exponential stability of regime-switching jump diffusions. The Lyapunov function method is used to derive sufficient conditions for stabilities for general nonlinear systems; which further helps to derive easily verifiable conditions for linear systems. For one-dimensional linear regime-switching jump diffusions, necessary and sufficient conditions for almost sure and $p$th moment exponential stabilities are presented. Several examples are provided for illustration.
In this paper, using an algorithm based on the retrospective rejection sampling scheme, we propose an exact simulation of a Brownian diffusion whose drift admits several jumps. We treat explicitly and extensively the case of two jumps, providing numerical simulations. Our main contribution is to manage the technical diffculty due to the presence of two jumps thanks to a new explicit expression of the transition density of the skew Brownian motion with two semipermeable barriers and a constant drift.
This work focuses on a class of regime-switching jump diffusion processes, in which the switching component has countably infinite many states or regimes. The existence and uniqueness of the underlying process are obtained by an interlacing procedure. Then the Feller and strong Feller properties of such processes are derived by the coupling method and an appropriate Radon-Nikodym derivative. Finally the paper studies exponential ergodicity of regime-switching jump-diffusion processes.
We study the behavior of the critical price of an American put option near maturity in the Jump diffusion model when the underlying stock pays dividends at a continuous rate and the limit of the critical price is smaller than the stock price. In particular, we prove that, unlike the case where the limit is equal to the strike price, jumps can influence the convergence rate.
We obtain explicit criteria for both exponential ergodicity and strong ergodicity for one-dimensional time-changed symmetric stable processes with $α\in(1,2)$. Explicit lower bounds for ergodic convergence rates are given.
We describe the processes obtained by time reversal of a class of stationary jump-diffusion processes that model the dynamics of genetic variation in populations subject to repeated bottlenecks. Assuming that only one lineage survives each bottleneck, the forward process is a diffusion on [0,1] that jumps to the boundary before diffusing back into the interior. We show that the behavior of the time-reversed process depends on whether the boundaries are accessible to the diffusive motion of the forward process. If a boundary point is inaccessible to the forward diffusion, then time reversal lea…
In this paper we investigate jump-diffusion processes in random environments which are given as the weak solutions to SDE's. We formulate conditions ensuring existence and uniqueness in law of solutions. We investigate Markov property. To prove uniqueness we solve a general martingale problem for \cadlag processes. This result is of independent interest. In the last section we present application of our results considering generalized exponential Levy model.
We obtain large deviation results for a two time-scale model of jump-diffusion processes. The processes on the two time scales are fully inter-dependent, the slow process has small perturbative noise and the fast process is ergodic. Our results extend previous large deviation results for diffusions. We provide concrete examples in their applications to finance and biology, with an explicit calculation of the large deviation rate function.
We investigate the convergence of hitting times for jump-diffusion processes. Specifically, we study a sequence of stochastic differential equations with jumps. Under reasonable assumptions, we establish the convergence of solutions to the equations and of the moments when the solutions hit certain sets.
We study jump-diffusion processes with parameters switching at random times. Being motivated by possible applications, we characterise equivalent martingale measures for these processes by means of the relative entropy. The minimal entropy approach is also developed. It is shown that in contrast to the case of Lévy processes, for this model an Esscher transformation does not produce the minimal relative entropy.
In this paper we study the jump-diffusion CIR process (shorted as JCIR), which is an extension of the classical CIR model. The jumps of the JCIR are introduced with the help of a pure-jump Lévy process $(J_t, t \ge 0)$. Under some suitable conditions on the Lévy measure of $(J_t, t \ge 0)$, we derive a lower bound for the transition densities of the JCIR process. We also find some sufficient condition guaranteeing the existence of a Forster-Lyapunov function for the JCIR process, which allows us to prove its exponential ergodicity.
We provide explicit sufficient conditions for absolute continuity and equivalence between the distributions of two jump-diffusion processes that can explode and be killed by a potential.
Let (Xt, t >= 0) be a diffusion process with jumps, sum of a Brownian motion with drift and a compound Poisson process. We consider T_x the first hitting time of a fixed level x > 0 by (Xt, t >= 0). We prove that the law of T_x has a density (defective when E(X1) < 0) with respect to the Lebesgue measure.
We study existence of probability measure valued jump-diffusions described by martingale problems. We develop a simple device that allows us to embed Wasserstein spaces and other similar spaces of probability measures into locally compact spaces where classical existence theory for martingale problems can be applied. The method allows for general dynamics including drift, diffusion, and possibly infinite-activity jumps. We also develop tools for verifying the required conditions on the generator, including the positive maximum principle and certain continuity and growth conditions. To illustra…
The aim of this paper is to study the continuity correction for barrier options in jump-diusion models. For this purpose, we express the pay-off a barrier option in terms of the maximum of the underlying process. We then condition with respect to the jump times and to the values of the underlying at the jump times and rely on the connection between the maximum of the Brownian motion and Bessel processes.
We study the rate of weak convergence of Markov chains to diffusion processes under suitable but quite general assumptions. We give an example in the financial framework, applying the convergence analysis to a multiple jumps tree approximation of the CIR process. Then, we combine the Markov chain approach with other numerical techniques in order to handle the different components in jump-diffusion coupled models. We study the speed of convergence of this hybrid approach and we provide an example in finance, applying our results to a tree-finite difference approximation in the Heston or Bates m…
A system of $N$ weakly interacting particles whose dynamics is given in terms of jump-diffusions with a common factor is considered. The common factor is described through another jump-diffusion and the coefficients of the evolution equation for each particle depend, in addition to its own state value, on the empirical measure of the states of the $N$ particles and the common factor. A Central Limit Theorem, as $N \to \infty$, is established. The limit law is described in terms of a certain Gaussian mixture. An application to models in Mathematical Finance of self-excited correlated defaults i…
We consider a real-valued diffusion process with a linear jump term driven by a Poisson point process and we assume that the jump amplitudes have a centered density with finite moments. We show upper and lower estimates for the density of the solution in the case that the jump amplitudes follow a Gaussian or Laplacian law. The proof of the lower bound uses a general expression for the density of the solution in terms of the convolution of the density of the continuous part and the jump amplitude density. The upper bound uses an upper tail estimate in terms of the jump amplitude distribution an…
We study a family of mean field games with a state variable evolving as a multivariate jump diffusion process. The jump component is driven by a Poisson process with a time-dependent intensity function. All coefficients, i.e. drift, volatility and jump size, are controlled. Under fairly general conditions, we establish existence of a solution in a relaxed version of the mean field game and give conditions under which the optimal strategies are in fact Markovian, hence extending to a jump-diffusion setting previous results established in [30]. The proofs rely upon the notions of relaxed control…
We establish the existence of weak martingale solutions to a class of second order parabolic stochastic partial differential equations. The equations are driven by multiplicative jump type noise, with a non-Lipschitz multiplicative functional. The drift in the equations contains a dissipative nonlinearity of polynomial growth.
We consider the first-crossing-time problem through a constant boundary for a Wiener process perturbed by random jumps driven by a counting process. On the base of a sample-path analysis of the jump-diffusion process we obtain explicit lower bounds for the first-crossing-time density and for the first-crossing-time distribution function. In the case of the distribution function, the bound is improved by use of processes comparison based on the usual stochastic order. The special case of constant jumps driven by a Poisson process is thoroughly discussed.
We establish existence of exponential moments and the validity of the affine transform formula for affine jump-diffusions with a general closed convex state space. This extends known results for affine jump-diffusions with a canonical state space. The key step is to prove the martingale property of an exponential local martingale, using the well-posedness of the associated martingale problem. By analytic extension we obtain the affine transform formula for complex exponentials, in particular for the characteristic function. Our results apply to a wide class of affine processes, including those…
This paper is dedicated to the analysis of backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) with jumps, subject to an additional global constraint involving all the components of the solution. We study the existence and uniqueness of a minimal solution for these so-called constrained BSDEs with jumps via a penalization procedure. This new type of BSDE offers a nice and practical unifying framework to the notions of constrained BSDEs presented in [19] and BSDEs with constrained jumps introduced in [14]. More remarkably, the solution of a multidimensional Brownian reflected BSDE studied in [11…
Central limit theorems play an important role in the study of statistical inference for stochastic processes. However, when the nonparametric local polynomial threshold estimator, especially local linear case, is employed to estimate the diffusion coefficients of diffusion processes, the adaptive and predictable structure of the estimator conditionally on the $σ-$field generated by diffusion processes is destroyed, the classical central limit theorem for martingale difference sequences can not work. In this paper, we proved the central limit theorems of local polynomial threshold estimators fo…
In this paper, we study the long-time behavior of a fluid particle immersed in a turbulent fluid driven by a diffusion with jumps, that is, a Feller process associated with a non-local operator. We derive the law of large numbers and central limit theorem for the evolution process of the tracked fluid particle in the cases when the driving process: (i) has periodic coefficients, (ii) is ergodic or (iii) is a class of Lévy processes. The presented results generalize the classical and well-known results for fluid flows driven by elliptic diffusion processes.
"Quantum trajectories" are solutions of stochastic differential equations also called Belavkin or Stochastic Schrödinger Equations. They describe random phenomena in quantum measurement theory. Two types of such equations are usually considered, one is driven by a one-dimensional Brownian motion and the other is driven by a counting process. In this article, we present a way to obtain more advanced models which use jump-diffusion stochastic differential equations. Such models come from solutions of martingale problems for infinitesimal generators. These generators are obtained from the limit o…
In this paper we find the transition densities of the basic affine jump-diffusion (BAJD), which is introduced by Duffie and Garleanu [D. Duffie and N. Garleanu, Risk and valuation of collateralized debt obligations, Financial Analysts Journal 57(1) (2001), pp. 41--59] as an extension of the CIR model with jumps. We prove the positive Harris recurrence and exponential ergodicity of the BAJD. Furthermore we prove that the unique invariant probability measure $π$ of the BAJD is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure and we also derive a closed form formula for the density func…
In this short note we formulate a infinite-horizon stochastic optimal control problem for jump-diffusions of Ito-Levy type as a LP problem in a measure space, and prove that the optimal value functions of both problems coincide. The main tools are the dual formulation of the LP primal problem, which is strongly connected to the notion of sub-solution of the partial integro-differential equation of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman type associated with the optimal control problem, and the Krylov regularization method for viscosity solutions.
Observing that the recent developments of the recursive (product) quantization method induces a family of Markov chains which includes all standard discretization schemes of diffusions processes , we propose to compute a general error bound induced by the recursive quantization schemes using this generic markovian structure. Furthermore, we compute a marginal weak error for the recursive quantization. We also extend the recursive quantization method to the Euler scheme associated to diffusion processes with jumps, which still have this markovian structure, and we say how to compute the recursi…
We consider a continuous-time Ehrenfest model defined over the integers from -N to N, and subject to catastrophes occurring at constant rate. The effect of each catastrophe instantaneously resets the process to state 0. We investigate both the transient and steady-state probabilities of the above model. Further, the first passage time through state 0 is discussed. We perform a jump-diffusion approximation of the above model, which leads to the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with catastrophes. The underlying jump-diffusion process is finally studied, with special attention to the symmetric case ari…
In this paper we establish a comparison theorem for stochastic differential delay equations with jumps. An example is constructed to demonstrate that the comparison theorem need not hold whenever the diffusion term contains a delay function although the jump-diffusion coefficient could contain a delay function. Moreover, another example is established to show that the comparison theorem is not necessary to be true provided that the jump-diffusion term is non-increasing with respect to the delay variable.
This work focuses on a class of regime-switching jump diffusion processes, which is a two component Markov processes $(X(t),Λ(t))$, where $Λ(t)$ is a component representing discrete events taking values in a countably infinite set. Considering the corresponding stochastic differential equations, our main focus is on treating those with non-Lipschitz coefficients. We first show that there exists a unique strong solution to the corresponding stochastic differential equation. Then Feller and strong Feller properties are investigated.
This work focuses on a class of regime-switching jump diffusion processes with a countably infinite state space for the discrete component. Such processes can be used to model complex hybrid systems in which both structural changes, small fluctuations as well as big spikes coexist and are intertwined. The paper provides weak sufficient conditions for Feller and strong Feller properties and irreducibility for such processes. The conditions are presented in terms of the coefficients of the associated stochastic differential equations.
We propose a general framework for studying jump-diffusion systems driven by both Gaussian noise and a jump process with state-dependent intensity. Of particular natural interest are the jump locations: the system evaluated at the jump times. However, the state-dependence of the jump rate provides direct coupling between the diffusion and jump components, making disentangling the two to study individually difficult. We provide an iterative map formulation of the sequence of distributions of jump locations. Computation of these distributions allows for the extraction of the interjump time stati…
