We show that each triangular Poisson Lie group can be decomposed into Poisson submanifolds each of which is a quotient of a symplectic manifold. The Marsden-Weinstein-Meyer symplectic reduction technique is then used to give a complete description of the symplectic foliation of all triangular Poisson structures on Lie groups. The results are illustrated in detail for the generalized Jordanian Poisson structures on SL(n).
We prove that any symplectic matrix can be factored into no more than 5 unit triangular symplectic matrices, moreover, 5 is the optimal number. This result improves the existing triangular factorization of symplectic matrices which gives proof of 9 factors. We also show the corresponding improved conclusions for structured subsets of symplectic matrices. This factorization further provides an unconstrained optimization method on $2d$-by-$2d$ real symplectic group (a $2d^2+d$-dimensional Lie group) with $2d^2+3d$ parameters.
In this work, we prove that any symplectic matrix can be factored into no more than 9 unit triangular symplectic matrices. This structure-preserving factorization of the symplectic matrices immediately reveals two well-known features that, (i) the determinant of any symplectic matrix is one, (ii) the matrix symplectic group is path connected, as well as a new feature that (iii) all the unit triangular symplectic matrices form a set of generators of the matrix symplectic group. Furthermore, this factorization yields effective methods for the unconstrained parametrization of the matrix symplecti…
All factorizable Lie bialgebra structures on complex reductive Lie algebras were described by Belavin and Drinfeld. We classify the symplectic leaves of the full class of corresponding connected Poisson-Lie groups. A formula for their dimensions is also proved.
We provide an explicit description of symplectic leaves of a simply connected connected semisimple complex Lie group equipped with the standard Poisson-Lie structure. This sharpens previously known descriptions of the symplectic leaves as connected components of certain varieties. Our main tool is the machinery of twisted generalized minors. They also allow us to present several quasi-commuting coordinate systems on every symplectic leaf. As a consequence, we construct new completely integrable systems on some special symplectic leaves.
We expose the basics of the Fedosov quantization procedure, placed in the general framework of symplectic ringed spaces. This framework also includes some Poisson manifolds with non regular Poisson structures, presymplectic manifolds, complex analytic symplectic manifolds, etc.
We provide a general study for triangular dynamical r-matrices using Poisson geometry. We show that a triangular dynamical r-matrix always gives rise to a regular Poisson manifold. Using the Fedosov method, we prove that non-degenerate (i.e., the corresponding Poisson manifolds are symplectic) triangular dynamical r-matrices (over $ \frakh^* $ and valued in $\wedge^{2}\frakg$) are quantizable, and the quantization is classified by the relative Lie algebra cohomology $H^{2}(\frakg, \frakh)[[\hbar ]]$. We also generalize this quantization method to splittable triangular dynamical r-matrices, whi…
Dirac submanifolds are a natural generalization in the Poisson category for symplectic submanifolds of a symplectic manifold. In a certain sense they correspond to symplectic subgroupoids of the symplectic groupoid of the given Poisson manifold. In particular, Dirac submanifolds arise as the stable locus of a Poisson involution. In this paper, we provide a general study for these submanifolds including both local and global aspects. In the second part of the paper, we study Poisson involutions and the induced Poisson structures on their stable locuses. We discuss the Poisson involutions on a s…
Poisson transversals are those submanifolds in a Poisson manifold which intersect all symplectic leaves transversally and symplectically. In a previous note we proved a normal form theorem around such submanifolds. In this communication, we promote that result to a normal form theorem for Poisson maps around Poisson transversals. A Poisson map pulls a Poisson transversal back to a Poisson transversal, and our first main result states that simultaneous normal forms exist around such transversals, for which the Poisson map becomes transversally linear, and intertwines the normal form data of the…
We give an intrinsic proof that Vorobjev's first approximation of a Poisson manifold near a symplectic leaf is a Poisson manifold. We also show that Conn's linearization results cannot be extended in Vorobjev's setting.
We study the equivalence of Poisson structures around a given symplectic leaf of nonzero dimension. Some criteria of Poisson equivalence are derived from a homotopy argument for coupling Poisson structures. In the case when the transverse Lie algebra of the symplectic leaf is semisimple of compact type, we show that an obstruction to the linearizability is the cohomology class of a Casimir 2-cocycle. This allows us to obtain a semilocal analog of the Conn linearization theorem and to clarify examples of nonlinearizable Poisson structures due to \cite{DW}.
We compute the Poisson cohomology of a class of Poisson manifolds that are symplectic away from a collection $D$ of hypersurfaces. These Poisson structures induce a generalization of symplectic and cosymplectic structures, which we call a k-cosymplectic structure, on the intersection of hypersurfaces in $D$.
The imploded cross-section of a symplectic manifold is a stratified space allowing for an abelianization of its symplectic reduction. After recalling symplectic and Poisson reduction and reviewing the basics of symplectic implosion, we prove a cross-section theorem for Poisson manifolds, generalizing the Guillemin-Sternberg theorem for symplectic manifolds, which constitutes a first step towards Poisson implosion. On our way, we find and fix a mistake in the proof of Guillemin-Sternberg's theorem, and we identify Poisson transversals as the right analogue to symplectic submanifolds in this con…
This paper is a fusion of a survey and a research article. We focus on certain rigidity phenomena in function spaces associated to a symplectic manifold. Our starting point is a lower bound obtained in an earlier paper with Zapolsky for the uniform norm of the Poisson bracket of a pair of functions in terms of symplectic quasi-states. After a short review of the theory of symplectic quasi-states, we extend this bound to the case of iterated Poisson brackets. A new technical ingredient is the use of symplectic integrators. In addition, we discuss some applications to symplectic approximation th…
The Lie-Poisson analogues of the cotangent bundle and coadjoint orbits of a Lie group are considered. For the natural Poisson brackets the symplectic leaves in these manifolds are classified and the corresponding symplectic forms are described. Thus the construction of the Kirillov symplectic form is generalized for Lie-Poisson groups.
We discuss symplectic manifolds where, locally, the structure is that encountered in Lagrangian dynamics. Exemples and characteristic properties are given. Then, we refer to the computation of the Maslov classes of a Lagrangian submanifold. Finally, we indicate the generalization of this type of structures to Poisson manifolds.
We introduce scattering-symplectic manifolds, manifolds with a type of minimally degenerate Poisson structure that is not too restrictive so as to have a large class of examples, yet restrictive enough for standard Poisson invariants to be computable. This paper will demonstrate the potential of the scattering symplectic setting. In particular, we construct scattering-symplectic spheres and scattering symplectic gluings between strong convex symplectic fillings of a contact manifold. By giving an explicit computation of the Poisson cohomology of a scattering symplectic manifold, we also introd…
We establish a connection between smooth symplectic resolutions and symplectic deformations of a (possibly singular) affine Poisson variety. In particular, let V be a finite-dimensional complex symplectic vector space and G\subset Sp(V) a finite subgroup. Our main result says that the so-called Calogero-Moser deformation of the orbifold V/G is, in an appropriate sense, a versal Poisson deformation. That enables us to determine the algebra structure on the rational cohomology H^*(X) of any smooth symplectic resolution X \to V/G (multiplicative McKay correspondence). We prove further that if G i…
In the framework of the connection theory, a contravariant analog of the Sternberg coupling procedure is developed for studying a natural class of Poisson structures on fiber bundles, called coupling tensors. We show that every Poisson structure near a closed symplectic leaf can be realized as a coupling tensor. Our main result is a geometric criterion for the neighborhood equivalence between Poisson structures over the same leaf. This criterion gives a Poisson analog of the relative Darboux theorem due to Weinstein. Within the category of the algebroids, coupling tensors are introduced on the…
We show how one can handle the formalism developped by Yurii Vorobjev in order to give general results about the problems of linearisation and of normal form of a Poisson structure in the neighborhood of one of its symplectic leaves.
We connect Poisson and near-symplectic geometry by showing that there is a singular Poisson structure on a near-symplectic 4-manifold. The Poisson structure $π$ is defined on the tubular neighbourhood of the singular locus $Z_ω$ of the 2-form $ω$, it is of maximal rank 4 and it vanishes on a degeneracy set containing $Z_ω$. We compute its smooth Poisson cohomology, which depends on the modular vector field and it is finite dimensional. We conclude with a discussion on the relation between the Poisson structure $π$ and the overtwisted contact structure associated to a near-symplectic 4-manifold…
We introduce new invariants associated to collections of compact subsets of a symplectic manifold. They are defined through an elementary-looking variational problem involving Poisson brackets. The proof of the non-triviality of these invariants involves various flavors of Floer theory. We present applications to approximation theory on symplectic manifolds and to Hamiltonian dynamics.
We introduce poly-symplectic groupoids, which are natural extensions of symplectic groupoids to the context of poly-symplectic geometry, and define poly-Poisson structures as their infinitesimal counterparts. We present equivalent descriptions of poly-Poisson structures, including one related with AV-Dirac structures. We also discuss symmetries and reduction in the setting of poly-symplectic groupoids and poly-Poisson structures, and use our viewpoint to revisit results and develop new aspects of the theory initiated by D.Iglesias, J.C Marrero and M. Vaquero.
We review recent results and ongoing investigations of the symplectic and Poisson geometry of derived moduli spaces, and describe applications to deformation quantization of such spaces.
In this paper we introduce the notion of a smooth structure on a stratified space, the notion of a Poisson smooth structure and the notion of a weakly symplectic smooth structure on a stratified symplectic space, refining the concept of a stratified symplectic Poisson algebra introduced by Sjamaar and Lerman. We show that these smooth spaces possess several important properties, e.g. the existence of smooth partitions of unity. Furthermore, under mild conditions many properties of a symplectic manifold can be extended to a symplectic stratified space provided with a smooth Poisson structure, e…
We show that, for any regular Poisson manifold, there is an injective natural linear map from the first leafwise cohomology space into the first Poisson cohomology space which maps the Reeb class of the symplectic foliation to the modular class of the Poisson manifold. The Riemannian interpretation of those classes will permit us to show that a regular Poisson manifold whose symplectic foliation is of codimension one is unimodular if and only if its symplectic foliation is Riemannian foliation. It permit us also to construct examples of unimodular Poisson manifolds and other which are not unim…
Let $G$ be a connected complex semi-simple Lie group and ${\mathcal{B}}$ its flag variety. For every positive integer $n$, we introduce a Poisson groupoid over ${\mathcal{B}}^n$, called the $n$th total configuration Poisson groupoid of flags of $G$, which contains a family of Poisson sub-groupoids whose total spaces are generalized double Bruhat cells and bases generalized Schubert cells. Certain symplectic leaves of these Poisson sub-groupoids are then shown to be symplectic groupoids over generalized Schubert cells. We also give explicit descriptions of symplectic leaves in three series of P…
We use the techniques of integration of Poisson manifolds into symplectic Lie groupoids to build symplectic resolutions (= desingularizations) of the closure of a symplectic leaf. More generally, we show how Lie groupoids can be used to lift singularities, in particular when one imposes a compatibility condition with an additional structure given by a multi-vector field.
We consider the Poisson sigma model associated to a Poisson manifold. The perturbative quantization of this model yields the Kontsevich star product formula. We study here the classical model in the Hamiltonian formalism. The phase space is the space of leaves of a Hamiltonian foliation and has a natural groupoid structure. If it is a manifold then it is a symplectic groupoid for the given Poisson manifold. We study various families of examples. In particular, a global symplectic groupoid for a general class of two-dimensional Poisson domains is constructed.
We introduce a new class of Poisson structures on a Riemannian manifold. A Poisson structure in this class will be called a Killing-Poisson structure. The class of Killing-Poisson structures contains the class of symplectic structures, the class of Poisson structures studied in{\it (Differential Geometry and its Applications, {\bf Vol. 20, Issue 3} (2004), 279--291)} and the class of Poisson structures induced by some infinitesimal Lie algebras actions on Riemannian manifolds. We show that some classical results on symplectic manifolds (the integrability of the Lie algebroid structure associat…
Symplectic manifolds which are homogeneous spaces of Poisson-Lie groups are studied in this paper. We show that these spaces are, under certain assumptions, covering spaces of dressing orbits of the Poisson-Lie groups which act on them. The effect of the Poisson induction procedure on such spaces is also examined, thus leading to an interesting generalization of the notion of homogeneous space. Some examples of homogeneous spaces of Poisson-Lie groups are discussed in the light of the previous results.
A geometric description of the first Poisson cohomology groups is given in the semilocal context, around (possibly singular) symplectic leaves. This result is based on the splitting theorems for infinitesimal automorphisms of coupling Poisson structures which describe the interaction between the tangential and transversal data of the characteristic distributions. As a consequence, we derive some criteria of vanishing of the first Poisson cohomology groups and apply the general splitting formulas to some particular classes of Poisson structures associated with singular symplectic foliations.
We present a general framework for reduction of symplectic Q-manifolds via graded group actions. In this framework, the homological structure on the acting group is a multiplicative multivector field.
Our paper develops a theory of Poisson slices and a uniform approach to their partial compactifications. The theory in question is loosely comparable to that of symplectic cross-sections in real symplectic geometry.
During the last thirty years, symplectic or Marsden--Weinstein reduction has been a major tool in the construction of new symplectic manifolds and in the study of mechanical systems with symmetry. This procedure has been traditionally associated to the canonical action of a Lie group on a symplectic manifold, in the presence of a momentum map. In this note we show that the symplectic reduction phenomenon has much deeper roots. More specifically, we will find symplectically reduced spaces purely within the Poisson category under hypotheses that do not necessarily imply the existence of a moment…
Emphasizing the role of Gerstenhaber algebras and of higher derived brackets in the theory of Lie algebroids, we show that the several Lie algebroid brackets which have been introduced in the recent literature can all be defined in terms of Poisson and pre-symplectic functions in the sense of Roytenberg and Terashima. We prove that in this very general framework there exists a one-to-one correspondence between non-degenerate Poisson functions and symplectic functions. We determine the differential associated to a Lie algebroid structure obtained by twisting a structure with background by both …
This article addresses the problem of developing an extension of the Marsden- Weinstein reduction process to symplectic Lie algebroids, and in particular to the case of the symplectic cover of a fiberwise linear Poisson structure, whose reduction process is the analogue to cotangent bundle reduction in the context of Lie algebroids.
It is known that any Poisson manifold can be embedded into a bigger space which admites a description in terms of the canonical Poisson structure, i.e., Darboux coordinates. Such a procedure is known as a symplectic realization and has a number of important applications like quantization of the original Poisson manifold. In the present paper we extend the above idea to the case of quasi-Poisson structures which should not necessarily satisfy the Jacobi identity. For any given quasi-Poisson structure $Θ$ we provide a recursive procedure of the construction of a symplectic manifold, as well as t…
We show that generalized broken fibrations in arbitrary dimensions admit rank-2 Poisson structures compatible with the fibration structure. After extending the notion of wrinkled fibration to dimension 6 we prove that these wrinkled fibrations also admit compatible rank-2 Poisson structures. In the cases with indefinite singularities we can provide these wrinkled fibrations in dimension 6 with near-symplectic structures.
We prove that the information geometry's Frobenius manifold is a symplectic manifold having Poisson structures. By proving this statement, a bridge is created between the theories developed by Vinberg, Souriau and Koszul and the Frobenius manifold approach. Until now these approaches seemed disconnected.
We compute the space of Poisson traces on symmetric powers of affine symplectic varieties. In the case of symplectic vector spaces, we also consider the quotient by the diagonal translation action, which includes the quotient singularities C^{2n-2}/S_n associated to the type A Weyl group S_n and its reflection representation C^{n-1}. We also compute the full structure of the natural D-module, previously defined by the authors, whose solution space over algebraic distributions identifies with the space of Poisson traces. As a consequence, we deduce bounds on the numbers of finite-dimensional ir…
We prove unobstructed deformations for compact Kaehlerian even-dimensional Poisson manifolds whose Poisson tensor degenerates along a divisor with mild singularities. Examples include Hilbert schemes of del Pezzo surfaces.
We present several large classes of real Banach Lie-Poisson spaces whose characteristic distributions are integrable, the integral manifolds being symplectic leaves just as in finite dimensions. We also investigate when these leaves are embedded submanifolds or when they have Kähler structures. Our results apply to the real Banach Lie-Poisson spaces provided by the self-adjoint parts of preduals of arbitrary $W^*$-algebras, as well as of certain operator ideals.
By considering suitable Poisson groupoids, we develop an approach to obtain Lie group structures on (subgroups of) the Poisson diffeomorphism groups of various classes of Poisson manifolds. As applications, we show that the Poisson diffeomorphism groups of (normal-crossing) log-symplectic, elliptic symplectic, scattering-symplectic and cosymplectic manifolds are regular infinite-dimensional Lie groups.
Several types of generically-nondegenerate Poisson structures can be effectively studied as symplectic structures on naturally associated Lie algebroids. Relevant examples of this phenomenon include log-, elliptic, $b^k$-, scattering and elliptic-log Poisson structures. In this paper we discuss topological obstructions to the existence of such Poisson structures, obtained through the characteristic classes of their associated symplectic Lie algebroids. In particular we obtain the full obstructions for surfaces to carry such Poisson structures.

We introduce the notion of relational symplectic groupoid as a way to integrate Poisson manifolds in general, following the construction through the Poisson sigma model (PSM) given by Cattaneo and Felder. We extend such construction to the infinite dimensional setting, where we are able to describe the relational symplectic groupoid in terms of immersed Lagrangian Bannach submanifolds. This corresponds to a groupoid object in the "extended symplectic category" and it can be related to the ususal version of symplectic groupoids via reduction. We prove the existence of such an object for any Poi…
Let X be a simply connected compact Riemannian symmetric space, let U be the universal covering group of the identity component of the isometry group of X, and let \g denote the complexification of the Lie algebra of U, \g=\u^\C. Each \u-compatible triangular decomposition \g=\n_- + \h + \n_+ determines a Poisson Lie group structure π_U on U. The Evens-Lu construction produces a (U,π_U)-homogeneous Poisson structure on X. By choosing the basepoint in X appropriately, X is presented as U/K where K is the fixed point set of an involution which stabilizes the triangular decomposition of \g. With …
Let $M^{2n}$ be a Poisson manifold with Poisson bivector field $Π$. We say that $M$ is b-Poisson if the map $Π^n:M\toΛ^{2n}(TM)$ intersects the zero section transversally on a codimension one submanifold $Z\subset M$. This paper will be a systematic investigation of such Poisson manifolds. In particular, we will study in detail the structure of $(M,Π)$ in the neighbourhood of $Z$ and using symplectic techniques define topological invariants which determine the structure up to isomorphism. We also investigate a variant of de Rham theory for these manifolds and its connection with Poisson cohomo…
Symplectic realization is a longstanding problem which can be traced back to Sophus Lie. In this paper, we present an explicit solution to this problem for an arbitrary holomorphic Poisson manifold. More precisely, for any holomorphic Poisson manifold $(X, π)$, we prove that there exists a holomorphic symplectic structure in a neighborhood $Y$ of the zero section of $T^*X$ such that the projection map is a symplectic realization of the given Poisson manifold, and moreover the zero section is a holomorphic Lagrangian submanifold. We describe an explicit construction for such a new holomorphic s…
In this paper we study Poisson actions of complete Poisson groups, without any connectivity assumption or requiring the existence of a momentum map. For any complete Poisson group $G$ with dual $G^\star$ we obtain a suitably connected integrating symplectic double groupoid $\calS$. As a consequence, the cotangent lift of a Poisson action on an integrable Poisson manifold $P$ can be integrated to a Poisson action of the symplectic groupoid $\poidd{\calS}{G^\star}$ on the symplectic groupoid for $P$. Finally, we show that the quotient Poisson manifold $P/G$ is also integrable, giving an explicit…
In this note we prove that an analytic symplectic action of a semisimple Lie algebra can be locally linearized in Darboux coordinates. This result yields simultaneous analytic linearization for Hamiltonian vector fields in a neighbourhood of a common zero. We also provide an example of smooth non-linearizable Hamiltonian action with semisimple linear part. The smooth analogue only holds if the semisimple Lie algebra is of compact type. An analytic equivariant b-Darboux theorem for b-Poisson manifolds and an analytic equivariant Weinstein splitting theorem for general Poisson manifolds are also…
We prove that any holomorphic Poisson manifold has an open symplectic leaf which is a pseudo-Kähler submanifold, and we define an obstruction to study the equivariance of momentum map for tangential Poisson action. Some properties of almost homogeneous Poisson manifolds are studied and we show that any compact symplectic Poisson homogeneous space is a torus bundle over a dressing orbit.
We provide an alternative method for obtaining of compatible Poisson structures on Lie groups by means of the adjoint representations of Lie algebras. In this way, we calculate some compatible Poisson structures on four dimensional and nilpotent six dimensional symplectic real Lie groups. Then using Magri-Morosi's theorem we obtain new bi-Hamiltonian systems with four dimensional and nilpotent six dimensional symplectic real Lie groups as phase spaces.
A $n$-dimensional Lie group $G$ equipped with a left invariant symplectic form $\om^+$ is called a symplectic Lie group. It is well-known that $\om^+$ induces a left invariant affine structure on $G$. Relatively to this affine structure we show that the left invariant Poisson tensor $π^+$ corresponding to $\om^+$ is polynomial of degree 1 and any right invariant $k$-multivector field on $G$ is polynomial of degree at most $k$. If $G$ is unimodular, the symplectic form $\om^+$ is also polynomial and the volume form $\wedge^{\frac{n}2}\om^+$ is parallel. We show also that any left invariant tens…
