The notion of prop models the operations with multiple inputs and multiple outpus, acting on some algebraic structures like the bialgebras or the Lie bialgebras. In this paper, we generalize the Koszul duality theory of associative algebras and operads to props.
The notion of PROP models the operations with multiple inputs and multiple outputs, acting on some algebraic structures like the bialgebras or the Lie bialgebras. We prove a Koszul duality theory for PROPs generalizing the one for associative algebras and for operads.
This paper proves Koszul duality for coloured operads and uses it to introduce strongly homotopy operads as a suitable homotopy invariant version of operads. It shows that rational chains on configuration spaces of points in the plane form a strongly homotopy operad quasi isomorphic to the chains on the little disks operad.
Generalising Jacob Lurie's idea on the relation between the Verdier duality and the iterated loop space theory, we study the Koszul duality for locally constant factorisation algebras. We formulate an analogue of Lurie's "nonabelian Poincare duality" theorem (which is closely related to earlier results of Graeme Segal, of Dusa McDuff, and of Paolo Salvatore) in a symmetric monoidal stable infinity category carefully, using John Francis' notion of excision. Its proof depends on our earlier study of the Koszul duality for E_n-algebras. As a consequence, we obtain a Verdier type equivalence for f…
The transfer of the generating operations of an algebra to a homotopy equivalent chain complex produces higher operations. The first goal of this paper is to describe precisely the higher structure obtained when the unary operations commute with the contracting homotopy. To solve this problem, we develop the Koszul duality theory of operads in the category of modules over a cocommutative Hopf algebra. This gives rise to a simpler category of homotopy algebras and infinity-morphisms, which allows us to get a new description of the homotopy category of algebras over such operads. The main exampl…
We record a result concerning the Koszul dual of the arity filtration on an operad. This result is then used to give conditions under which, for a general operad, the Poincaré/Koszul duality arrow of Ayala-Francis is an equivalence. We discuss how the Poincaré/Koszul duality arrow for the little $n$-disks operad $\mathcal{E}_n$ relates to their work when combined with the self-Koszul duality of $\mathcal{E}_n$.
This paper introduces the category of marked curved Lie algebras with curved morphisms, equipping it with a closed model category structure. This model structure is---when working over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero---Quillen equivalent to a model category of pseudo-compact unital commutative differential graded algebras; this extends known results regarding the Koszul duality of unital commutative differential graded algebras and differential graded Lie algebras. As an application of the theory developed within this paper, algebraic deformation theory is extended to func…
In this article we give a conceptual definition of Manin products in any category endowed with two coherent monoidal products. This construction can be applied to associative algebras, non-symmetric operads, operads, colored operads, and properads presented by generators and relations. These two products, called black and white, are dual to each other under Koszul duality functor. We study their properties and compute several examples of black and white products for operads. These products allow us to define natural operations on the chain complex defining cohomology theories. With these opera…
The goal of this article is to make explicit a structured complex whose homology computes the cohomology of the p-profinite completion of the n-fold loop space of a sphere of dimension d=n-m<n. This complex is defined purely algebraically, in terms of characteristic structures of E_n-operads. Our construction involves: the free complete algebra in one variable associated to any E_n-operad; and an element in this free complete algebra, which is associated to a morphism from the operad of L-infinity algebras to an operadic suspension of our E_n-operad. We deduce our main theorem from: a connecti…
We construct an equivalence of $E_{2}$ algebras between two models for the Thom spectrum of the free loop space that are related by derived Koszul duality. To do this, we describe the functoriality and invariance properties of topological Hochschild cohomology.
In this paper we study the homology of 2 versions of the swiss-cheese operad. We prove that the zeroth homology of these two versions are Koszul operads and relate this to strong homotopy Lebiniz pairs and OCHA, defined by Kajiura and Stasheff.
Motivated by a result from string topology, we prove a duality in topological Hochschild homology (THH). The duality relates the THH of an E_1-algebra spectrum and the THH of its derived Koszul dual algebra under certain compactness conditions. The result relies on results about module categories which may be of interest on their own. Finally, we relate this result to topological field theories and outline some future work.
In this paper, we construct a bar-cobar adjunction and a Koszul duality theory for protoperads, which are an operadic type notion encoding faithfully some categories of bialgebras with diagonal symmetries, like double Lie algebras (DLie). We give a criterion to show that a binary quadratic protoperad is Koszul and we apply it successfully to the protoperad DLie. As a corollary, we deduce that the properad DPois which encodes double Poisson algebras is Koszul. This allows us to describe the homotopy properties of double Poisson algebras which play a key role in non commutative geometry.
Generalizing Jacob Lurie's idea on the relation between the Verdier duality and the iterated loop space theory, we study the Koszul duality for locally constant factorization algebras. Its proof is done by first studying the Koszul duality for E_n-algebras in detail. As a consequence, we obtain a Verdier type equivalence f…
We develop a curved Koszul duality theory for algebras presented by quadratic-linear-constant relations over unital versions of binary quadratic operads. As an application, we study Poisson $n$-algebras given by polynomial functions on a standard shifted symplectic space. We compute explicit resolutions of these algebras using curved Koszul duality. We use these resolutions to compute derived enveloping algebras and factorization homology on parallelized simply connected closed manifolds with coefficients in these Poisson $n$-algebras.
We prove a duality for factorization homology which generalizes both usual Poincaré duality for manifolds and Koszul duality for $\mathcal{E}_n$-algebras. The duality has application to the Hochschild homology of associative algebras and enveloping algebras of Lie algebras. We interpret our result at the level of topological quantum field theory.
We extend the theory of chiral and factorization algebras, developed for curves by Beilinson and Drinfeld in \cite{bd}, to higher-dimensional varieties. This extension entails the development of the homotopy theory of chiral and factorization structures, in a sense analogous to Quillen's homotopy theory of differential graded Lie algebras. We prove the equivalence of higher-dimensional chiral and factorization algebras by embedding factorization algebras into a larger category of chiral commutative coalgebras, then realizing this interrelation as a chiral form of Koszul duality. We apply these…
We study the Koszul duality between augmented $E_n$-algebras and augmented $E_n$-coalgebras in a symmetric monoidal stable infinity $1$-category equipped with a filtration in a suitable sense. We obtain that the Koszul duality constructions restrict to an equivalence between augmented algebras and coalgebras which have some positivity and completeness with respect to the filtration. We also obtain that the Koszul duality construction is functorial between carefully constructed generalized Morita categories consisting of those algebras/coalgebras in each dimension.
We obtain a linear algebra data presentation of the category of constructible with respect to perverse triangulation sheaves on a finite simplicial complex. We also establish Koszul duality between the above mentioned category and the category of perverse sheaves constructible with respect to the triangulation
We survey the topology which led to the original bar and cobar constructions, for both associative algebras and coalgebras and for Lie algebras and commutative coalgebras. These constructions are often viewed as part of the larger theory of Koszul duality of operads, so this survey is meant to offer an historical perspective on the most prominent cases of that theory. We also explain recent work which shows that Hopf/linking invariants for homotopy are at the heart of the duality between commutative algebras and Lie coalgebras.
We show that Verdier duality for certain sheaves on the moduli spaces of graphs associated to Koszul operads corresponds to Koszul duality of operads. This in particular gives a conceptual explanation of the appearance of graph cohomology of both the commutative and Lie types in computations of the cohomology of the outer automorphism group of a free group. Another consequence is an explicit computation of dualizing sheaves on spaces of metric graphs, thus characterizing to which extent these spaces are different from oriented orbifolds. We also provide a relation between the cohomology of the…
Let T be a torus. We show that Koszul duality can be used to compute the equivariant cohomology of topological T-spaces as well as the cohomology of pull backs of the universal T-bundle. The new features are that no further assumptions about the spaces are made and that the coefficient ring may be arbitrary. This gives in particular a Cartan-type model for the equivariant cohomology of a T-space with arbitrary coefficients. Our method works for intersection homology as well.
We prove that a connected commutator (or NC) complete associative algebra can be recovered in the derived setting from its abelianization together with its natural induced structure. Specifically, we prove an equivalence between connected derived commutator complete associative algebras and connected commutative algebras equipped with a coaction of the comonad arising from the adjunction between associative and commutative algebras. This provides a Koszul dual description of connected derived commutator (or NC) complete associative algebras and furthermore may be interpreted as a theory of rel…
Let $A$ be a Koszul Calabi-Yau algebra. We show that there exists an isomorphism of Batalin-Vilkovisky algebras between the Hochschild cohomology ring of $A$ and that of its Koszul dual algebra $A^!$. This confirms (a generalization of) a conjecture of R.~Rouquier.
The generalized string topology construction of Gruher and Salvatore assigns to any bundle of $E_n$-algebras $A$ over a closed oriented manifold $M$ a collection of intersection-type operations on the homology of the total space. These operations are realized by an $H_n$-ring structure on the Thom spectrum $A^{-TM}$ under the Thom isomorphism. We rigidify and extend this construction to a functor connecting the homotopy theory of spaces and spectra parametrized by $M$ to the homotopy theory of module spectra over the Atiyah-Milnor-Spanier-Whitehead dual $M^{-TM} \simeq \bbD M$. Then, using an …
We extend the Koszul duality theory of associative algebras to algebras over an operad. Recall that in the classical case, this Koszul duality theory relies on an important chain complex: the Koszul complex. We show that the cotangent complex, involved in the cohomology theory of algebras over an operad, generalizes the Koszul complex.
We show that the integral cohomology rings of the moduli spaces of stable rational marked curves are Koszul. This answers an open question of Manin. Using the machinery of Koszul spaces developed by Berglund, we compute the rational homotopy Lie algebras of those spaces, and obtain some estimates for Betti numbers of their free loop spaces in case of torsion coefficients. We also prove and conjecture some generalisations of our main result.
We define a notion of Koszul dual of a monoid object in a monoidal biclosed model category. Our construction generalizes the classic Yoneda algebra $Ext_A(k,k)$. We apply this general construction to define the Koszul dual of a category enriched over spectra or chain complexes. This example relies on the classical observation that enriched categories are monoid objects in a category of enriched graphs. We observe that the category of enriched graphs is biclosed, meaning that it comes with both left and right internal hom objects. Given a category $R$ (which plays the role of the ground field $…
We interpret different constructions of the algebraic $K$-theory of spaces as an instance of derived Koszul (or bar) duality and also as an instance of Morita equivalence. We relate the interplay between these two descriptions to the homotopy involution. We define a geometric analog of the Swan theory $G^{\bZ}(\bZ[π])$ in terms of $Σ^{\infty}_{+} ΩX$ and show that it is the algebraic $K$-theory of the $E_{\infty}$ ring spectrum $DX=S^{X_{+}}$.
This is a report on recent work of Chalupnik and Touze. We explain the Koszul duality for the category of strict polynomial functors and make explicit the underlying monoidal structure which seems to be of independent interest. Then we connect this to Ringel duality for Schur algebras and describe Serre duality for strict polynomial functors.
Let $X$ be a finite connected simplicial complex, and let $δ$ be a perversity (i.e., some function from integers to integers). One can consider two categories: (1) the category of perverse sheaves cohomologically constructible with respect to the triangulation, and (2) the category of sheaves constant along the perverse simplices ($δ$-sheaves). We interpret the categories (1) and (2) as categories of modules over certain quadratic (and even Koszul) algebras $A(X,δ)$ and $B(X,δ)$ respectively, and we prove that $A(X,δ)$ and $B(X,δ)$ are Koszul dual to each other. We define the $δ$-perverse topo…
Let G be a topological group such that its homology H(G) with coefficients in a principal ideal domain R is an exterior algebra, generated in odd degrees. We show that the singular cochain functor carries the duality between G-spaces and spaces over BG to the Koszul duality between modules up to homotopy over H(G) and H^*(BG). This gives in particular a Cartan-type model for the equivariant cohomology of a G-space. As another corollary, we obtain a multiplicative quasi-isomorphism C^*(BG) -> H^*(BG). A key step in the proof is to show that a differential Hopf algebra is formal in the category …
The goal of this paper is to prove a Koszul duality result for E_n-operads in differential graded modules over a ring. The case of an E_1-operad, which is equivalent to the associative operad, is classical. For n>1, the homology of an E_n-operad is identified with the n-Gerstenhaber operad and forms another well known Koszul operad. Our main theorem asserts that an operadic cobar construction on the dual cooperad of an E_n-operad defines a cofibrant model of E_n. This cofibrant model gives a realization at the chain level of the minimal model of the n-Gerstenhaber operad arising from Koszul du…
We show that the Koszul dual of an E_n-operad in spectra is O(n)-equivariantly equivalent to its n-fold desuspension. To this purpose we introduce a new O(n)-operad of Euclidean spaces R_n, the barycentric operad, that is fibred over simplexes and has homeomorphisms as structure maps; we also introduce its sub-operad of restricted little n-discs D_n, that is an E_n-operad. The duality is realized by an unstable explicit S-duality pairing (F_n)_+ \smash BD_n \to S_n, where B is the bar-cooperad construction, F_n is the Fulton-MacPherson E_n-operad, and the dualizing object S_n is an operad of s…
This paper studies the role of dg-Lie algebroids in derived deformation theory. More precisely, we provide an equivalence between the homotopy theories of formal moduli problems and dg-Lie algebroids over a commutative dg-algebra of characteristic zero. At the level of linear objects, we show that the category of representations of a dg-Lie algebroid is an extension of the category of quasi-coherent sheaves on the corresponding formal moduli problem. We describe this extension geometrically in terms of pro-coherent sheaves.
In this thesis, we generalize the Koszul duality for associative algebras and operads to PROPs. The operads are algebraic objects that represent the operations with multiple inputs but only one output acting on a certain type of algebras. A PROP models the operations with multiple inputs and multiple outputs acting on algebraic structures like bialgebras and Lie bialgebras. We also give a construction of the free monoid (for a monoidal product non-necessarily bilinear). We generalize the Poincare series of operads to PROPs and we prove a functional equation for Poincare series of Koszul PROPs.
For any dg algebra $A$ we construct a closed model category structure on dg $A$-modules such that the corresponding homotopy category is compactly generated by dg $A$-modules that are finitely generated and free over $A$ (disregarding the differential). We prove that this closed model category is Quillen equivalent to the category of comodules over a certain, possibly nonconilpotent dg coalgebra, a so-called extended bar construction of $A$. This generalises and complements certain aspects of dg Koszul duality for associative algebras.
We consider partitions of a set with $r$ elements ordered by refinement. We consider the simplicial complex $\bar{K}(r)$ formed by chains of partitions which starts at the smallest element and ends at the largest element of the partition poset. A classical theorem asserts that $\bar{K}(r)$ is equivalent to a wedge of $r-1$-dimensional spheres. In addition, the poset of partitions is equipped with a natural action of the symmetric group in $r$ letters. Consequently, the associated homology modules are representations of the symmetric groups. One observes that the $r-1$th homology modules of $\b…
Let $M$ be a Liouville 6-manifold which is the smooth fiber of a Lefschetz fibration on $\mathbb{C}^4$ constructed by suspending a Lefschetz fibration on $\mathbb{C}^3$. We prove that for many examples including stabilizations of Milnor fibers of hypersurface cusp singularities, the compact Fukaya category $\mathcal{F}(M)$ and the wrapped Fukaya category $\mathcal{W}(M)$ are related through $A_\infty$-Koszul duality, by identifying them with cyclic and Calabi-Yau completions of the same quiver algebra. This implies the split-generation of the compact Fukaya category $\mathcal{F}(M)$ by vanishi…
We show that there is an equivalence in any $n$-topos $\mathcal{X}$ between the pointed and $k$-connective objects of $\mathcal{X}$ and the $\mathbb{E}_k$-group objects of the $(n-k-1)$-truncation of $\mathcal{X}$. This recovers, up to equivalence of $\infty$-categories, some classical results regarding algebraic models for $k$-connective, $(n-1)$-coconnective homotopy types. Further, it extends those results to the case of sheaves of such homotopy types. We also show that for any pointed and $k$-connective object $X$ of $\mathcal{X}$ there is an equivalence between the $\infty$-category of mo…
I show that any locally Cartesian left localisation of a presentable infinity-category admits a right proper model structure in which all morphisms are cofibrations, and obtain a Koszul duality classification of its fibrations. By a simple criterion in terms of generators for a localisation to be locally Cartesian, this applies to any nullification functor. In particular, it includes examples with non-trivial "homotopical content." I further describe, and provide examples from, the set of fibrations in three contexts: the higher categorical Thomason model structure of Mazel-Gee, where fibratio…
