Katz and Pavlovic recently proposed a dyadic model of the Euler equations for which they proved finite time blow-up in the $H^{3/2+ε}$ Sobolev norm. It is shown that their model can be reduced to the dyadic inviscid Burgers equation where nonlinear interactions are restricted to dyadic wavenumbers. The inviscid Burgers equation exhibits finite time blow-up in $H^α$, for $α\ge 1/2$, but its dyadic restriction is even more singular, exhibiting blow-up for any $α> 0$. Friedlander and Pavlovic developed a closely related model for which they also prove finite time blow-up in $H^{3/2+ε}$. Some inconsistent assumptions in the construction of their model are outlined. Finite time blow-up in the $H^α$ norm, with $α> 0$, is proven for a class of models that includes all those models. An alternative shell model of the Navier-Stokes equations is discussed.
Dyadic models of the Euler equations were introduced as toy models to study the behaviour of an inviscid fluid in turbulence theory. In 1974 Novikov proposed a generalized mixed dyadic model that extends both Katz-Pavlovic and Obukhov models giving birth to a more complex structure: no results were found in literature until 2015 where blow up in finite time for smooth solutions and existence of self-similar solution for particular values of the model parameters were shown by Jeong I.J. We extend such partial results by giving a complete spectrum of existence and uniqueness results for two card…
We partially answer a question raised by Kiselev and Zlatos in \cite{MR2180809}; in the generalized dyadic model of the Euler equation, a blow-up of $H^{1/3+δ}$-norm occurs. We recover a few previous blow-up results for various related dyadic models as corollaries.
We consider the solutions of the Cauchy problem for a dyadic model of Euler equations. We prove global existence and uniqueness of Leray-Hopf solutions in a rather large class K that implies in particular global existence and uniqueness in l^2 for all initial positive conditions in l^2.
We consider the dyadic model, which is a toy model to test issues of well-posedness and blow-up for the Navier-Stokes and Euler equations. We prove well-posedness of positive solutions of the viscous problem in the relevant scaling range which corresponds to Navier-Stokes. Likewise we prove well-posedness for the inviscid problem (in a suitable regularity class) when the parameter corresponds to the strongest transport effect of the non-linearity.
We study an infinite system of non-linear differential equations coupled in a tree-like structure. This system was previously introduced in the literature and it is the model from which the dyadic shell model of turbulence was derived. It mimics 3d Euler and Navier-Stokes equations in a rough approximation of a wavelet decomposition. We prove existence of finite energy solutions, anomalous dissipation in the inviscid unforced case, existence and uniqueness of stationary solutions (either conservative or not) in the forced case.
We study the inviscid dyadic model of the Euler equations and prove some regularizing properties of the nonlinear term that occur due to forward energy cascade. We show every solution must have 3/5 L^2-based (or 1/10 L^3-based) regularity for all positive time. We conjecture this holds up to Onsager's scaling, where the L^2-based exponent is 5/6 and the L^3-based exponent is 1/3.
We construct non-unique Leray-Hopf solutions for some dyadic models for magnetohydrodynamics when the intermittency dimension $δ$ is less than 1. In contrast, uniqueness of Leray-Hopf solution is established in the case of $δ\geq 1$. Analogous results on uniqueness and non-uniqueness of Leray-Hopf solution are also obtained for dyadic models of MHD with fractional diffusion.
Properties of an infinite system of nonlinearly coupled ordinary differential equations are discussed. This system models some properties present in the equations of motion for an inviscid fluid such as the skew symmetry and the 3-dimensional scaling of the quadratic nonlinearity. It is proved that the system with forcing has a unique equilibrium and that every solution blows up in finite time in $H^{5/6}$-norm. Onsager's conjecture is confirmed for the model system.
We propose a two-dimensional generalization of Constantin-Lax-Majda model [2]. Some results about singular solutions are given. This model might be the first step toward the singular solutions of the Euler equations. Along the same line (vorticity formulation), we present some further model equations. They possibly models various aspects of difficulties related with the singular solutions of the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. We also make some discussions on the possible connection between turbulence and the singular solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations.
We study the stabilities and classical solutions of Euler-Poisson equations of describing the evolution of the gaseous star in astrophysics. In fact, we extend the study the stabilities of Euler-Poisson equations with or without frictional damping term to some special dimensional spaces. Besides, by using the second inertia function in 2 dimension of Euler-Poisson equations, we prove the non-global existence of classical solutions with $2\int_Ω(ρ| u| ^{2}+2P)dx<gM^{2}-ε$, for any $γ$.
Properties of an infinite system of nonlinearly coupled ordinary differential equations are discussed. This system models some properties present in the equations of motion for an inviscid fluid such as the skew symmetry and the 3-dimensional scaling of the quadratic nonlinearity. In a companion paper [6] it is proved that every solution for the system with forcing blows up in finite time in the Sobolev $H^{5/6}$ norm. In this present paper, it is proved that after the blow-up time all solutions stay in $H^s$, $s<5/6$ for almost all time and the energy dissipates. Moreover, it is proved that t…
We consider axisymmetric Euler flows without swirl in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ with $d\geq 4$, for which the global regularity of smooth solutions is an open problem. When $d = 4$, we obtain global regularity under the assumption that the initial vorticity satisfies some decay at infinity and is vanishing at the axis. Assuming further that the initial vorticity is of one sign guarantees global regularity for $d\leq 7$.
In this paper we introduce (I,J) similar method for incompressible two and three dimensional Euler equations and Navier-Stokes equations, obtain a series of explicit (I,J) similar solutions to the incompressible two dimensional Euler equations, they include all of twin wave solutions, some new singularity solutions, and some global smooth solutions with finite energy. We also discover that twin wave solution and affine solution to two dimensional incompressible Euler equations are respectively plane wave and constant vector. Finally, we supply some explicit piecewise smooth solutions to incomp…
We consider the Euler equations on $\mathbb{T}^d$ with analytic data and prove lower bounds for the radius of spatial analyticity $ε(t)$ of the solution using a new method based on inductive estimates in standard Sobolev spaces. Our results are consistent with similar previous results proved by Kukavica and Vicol, but give a more precise dependence of $ε(t)$ on the radius of analyticity of the initial datum.
In this note we consider the pointwise convergence to the initial data for the solutions of some nonlocal dyadic Schrödinger equations on spaces of homogeneous type. We prove the a.e. convergence when the initial data belongs to a dyadic version of an $L^2$ based Besov space.
In this overview we discuss some recent results of non--uniqueness for the isentropic Euler equations of gas dynamics with particular attention to the role of some admissibility criteria proposed in the literature.
We utilize undetermined coefficient method and an iterative method to construct the series solutions of the 3D Cauchy problem for a class of incompressible Navier-Stokes and Euler Equations. Then we can turn the Navier-Stokes Equations (Euler Equations) into the Cauchy problem for finitely (infinitely) many ordinary differential equations. We get the finite series solution of the Navier-Stokes Equations. By using some combinatorial identities techniques, we prove that the sum of the solutions to these ordinary differential equations is an infinite series solution of the Euler Equations in some…
We consider the Euler-Voigt equations and the Navier-Stokes-Voigt equations, which are obtained by an inviscid alpha-regularization from the corresponding equations. The main result we show is the structural stability of the system in term of the variations of both viscosity of regularization parameters.
We find a smooth solution of the 2D Euler equation on a bounded domain which exists and is unique in a natural class locally in time, but blows up in finite time in the sense of its vorticity losing continuity. The domain's boundary is smooth except at two points, which are interior cusps.
We show that the Euler system of gas dynamics in $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d=2,3$, with positive far field density and arbitrary far field entropy, admits infinitely many steady solutions with compactly supported velocity. The same proof yields a similar result for the incompressible Euler system with variable density. In particular, these are examples of global in time smooth (non-trivial) solutions for the corresponding time-dependent systems.
In this article, we investigate the geometry of a central extension $\widehat{\mathcal D}_μ(S^{2})$ of the group of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms of the 2-sphere equipped with the $L^{2}$-metric, whose geodesics correspond solutions of the incompressible Euler equation with Coriolis force. In particular, we calculate the Misiolek curvature of this group. This value is related to the existence of a conjugate point and its positivity directly implies the positivity of the sectional curvature.
A class of differentiable solutions is proved for the isentropic Euler equations in two and three space dimensions. The solutions are explicitly given in terms of solutions to inviscid Burgers equations, and several directions of propagation. The relative orientation of the directions is critical. Within the directional constraints, the Burgers solutions are arbitrary. The several velocities add, and the pressures combine nonlinearly. These solutions cannot exist beyond the time when shocks develop in any of the Burgers solutions.
In this paper, we are interested in the global persistence regularity for the 2D incompressible Euler equations in some function spaces allowing unbounded vorticities. More precisely, we prove the global propagation of the vorticity in some weighted Morrey-Campanato spaces and in this framework the velocity field is not necessarily Lipschitz but belongs to the log-Lipschitz class $L^αL,$ for some $α\in (0,1).$
