We use the framework of Colombeau algebras of generalized functions to study existence and uniqueness of global generalized solutions to mixed non-local problems for a semilinear hyperbolic system. Coefficients of the system as well as initial and boundary data are allowed to be strongly singular, as the Dirac delta function and derivatives thereof. To obtain the existence-uniqueness result we prove a criterion of invertibility in the full version of the Colombeau algebras.
We revisit a method introduced by Tartar for proving global well-posedness of a semilinear hyperbolic system with null quadratic source in one space dimension. A remarkable point is that, since no dispersion effect is available for 1D hyperbolic systems, Tartar's approach is entirely based on spatial localization and finite speed of propagation.
We consider semilinear elliptic problems on two-dimensional hyperbolic space involving critical growth. We first establish the Palais-Smale(P-S) condition and using (P-S) condition we obtain existence of solutions. In addition, we also explore existence of infinitely many sign changing solutions as well.
In this article we will study the nondegeneracy properties of positive finite energy solutions of a semilinear elliptic equation in the N-dimensional Hyperbolic space. We will show that the degeneracy occurs only in an N dimensional subspace. We will prove that the positive solutions are nondegenerate in the case of geodesic balls.
We investigate the asymptotic behavior, as t goes to infinity, for a semilinear hyperbolic equation with asymptotically smal dissipation and convex potential. We prove that if the damping term behaves like K/t^αfor t large enough, k>0 and 0</alpha<1 then every global solution converges weakly to an equilibrium point. This result is a positive answer to a question left open in the paper [A. Cabot and P. Frankel, Asymptotics for some semilinear hyperbolic equation with non-autonomous damping. J. Differential Equations 252 (2012) 294-322.]
We study the well-posedness of radial solutions for general nonlinear hyperbolic systems in three dimensions. We give a proof of the global existence of radial solutions for general semilinear hyperbolic systems in 3D under null condition, with small scaling invariant $\dot{W}^{2,1}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ data. We obtain a bilinear estimate that is effective to the hyperbolic systems which do not have any time decay. It allows us to achieve the boundedness of the weighted BV norm of the radial solution.
In this paper, we consider systems of semilinear elliptic equations \displaystyle -Δ_{\mathbb{H}^{N}}u=|v|^{p-1}v, \displaystyle -Δ_{\mathbb{H}^{N}}v=|u|^{q-1}u, in the whole of Hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{N}$. We establish decay estimates and symmetry properties of positive solutions. Unlike the corresponding problem in Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^N$, we prove that there exists a nonnegative nontrivial solution of problem.
The paper gives a comprehensive study of Inertial Manifolds for hyperbolic relaxations of an abstract semilinear parabolic equation in a Hilbert space. A new scheme of constructing Inertial Manifolds for such type of problems is suggested and optimal spectral gap conditions which guarantee their existence are established. Moreover, the dependence of the constructed manifolds on the relaxation parameter in the case of the parabolic singular limit is also studied.
We prove small-data global existence to semi-linear wave equations on hyperbolic space of dimension greater than or equal to three, for nonlinearities that have the form of a sufficiently high integer power of the solution. We also prove the existence and asymptotic completeness of wave operators in this setting.
We consider a general hyperbolic model of chemotaxis in the multidimensional case. For this system we show the global existence of smooth solutions to the Cauchy problem and we determine their asymptotic behavior. Since this model does not enter in the classical framework of dissipative problems, we analyze it combining the features of the hyperbolic and the parabolic parts and using detailed decay estimates of the Green function.
We study mild solutions of a class of stochastic partial differential equations, involving operators with polynomially bounded coefficients. We consider semilinear equations under suitable hyperbolicity hypotheses on the linear part. We provide conditions on the initial data and on the stochastic terms, namely, on the associated spectral measure, so that mild solutions exist and are unique in suitably chosen functional classes. More precisely, function-valued solutions are obtained, as well as a regularity result.
We consider systems of semilinear wave equations in three space dimensions with quadratic nonlinear terms not satisfying the null condition. We prove small data global existence of the classical solution under a new structural condition related to the weak null condition. For two-component systems satisfying this condition, we also observe a new kind of asymptotic behavior: Only one component is dissipated and the other one behaves like a free solution in the large time.
We consider the inverse problem of determining a general nonlinear term appearing in a semilinear hyperbolic equation on a Riemannian manifold with boundary $(M,g)$ of dimension $n=2,3$. We prove results of unique recovery of the nonlinear term $F(t,x,u)$, appearing in the equation $\partial_t^2u-Δ_gu+F(t,x,u)=0$ on $(0,T)\times M$ with $T>0$, from some partial knowledge of the solutions $u$ on the boundary of the time-space cylindrical manifold $(0,T)\times M$ or on the lateral boundary $(0,T)\times\partial M$. We determine the expression $F(t,x,u)$ both on the boundary $x\in\partial M$ and i…
We provide a rigorous justication of nonlinear geometric optics expansions for reflecting \emph{pulses} in space dimensions $n>1$. The pulses arise as solutions to variable coefficient semilinear first-order hyperbolic systems. The justification applies to $N\times N$ systems with $N$ interacting pulses which depend on phases that may be nonlinear. The \emph{coherence} assumption made in a number of earlier works is dropped. We consider problems in which incoming pulses are generated from pulse boundary data as well as problems in which a single outgoing pulse reflects off a possibly curved bo…
We consider positive singular solutions to semilinear elliptic problems with possibly singular nonlinearity. We deduce symmetry and monotonicity properties of the solutions via the moving plane procedure.
n this paper, we prove existence of nodal solutions for singular semilinear elliptic systems without variational structure where its both components are of sign changing. Our approach is based on sub-supersolutions method combined with perturbation arguments involving singular terms.
We prove global well-posedness and scattering in $H^1$ for the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equations \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} &(i\partial_t+Δ_\g)u=u|u|^{2σ}; &u(0)=ϕ, \end{cases} \end{equation*} on the hyperbolic spaces $\H^d$, $d\geq 2$, for exponents $σ\in(0,2/(d-2))$. The main unexpected conclusion is scattering to linear solutions in the case of small exponents $σ$; for comparison, on Euclidean spaces scattering in $H^1$ is not known for any exponent $σ\in(1/d,2/d]$ and is known to fail for $σ\in(0,1/d]$. Our main ingredients are certain noneuclidean global in time Strichartz e…
We establish quantitative asymptotic behaviors for nonnegative solutions of the critical semilinear equation $-Δu=u^{\frac{n+2}{n-2}}$ with isolated boundary singularities, where $n\ge 3$ is the dimension.
Very singular self-similar solutions of semilinear odd-order PDEs are studied on the basis of a Hermitian-type spectral theory for linear rescaled odd-order operators.
We consider positive solutions to semilinear elliptic problems with singular nonlinearities, under zero Dirichlet boundary condition. We exploit a refined version of the moving plane method to prove symmetry and monotonicity properties of the solutions, under general assumptions on the nonlinearity.
We investigate existence and nonexistence of global in time nonnegative solutions to the semilinear heat equation, with a reaction term of the type $e^{μt}u^p$ ($μ\in\mathbb{R}, p>1$), posed on cones of the hyperbolic space. Under a certain assumption on $μ$ and $p$, related to the bottom of the spectrum of $-Δ$ in $\mathbb H^n$, we prove that any solution blows up in finite time, for any nontrivial nonnegative initial datum. Instead, if the parameters $μ$ and $p$ satisfy the opposite condition we have: (a) blow-up when the initial datum is large enough, (b) existence of global solutions when …
Given $Ω$ a bounded open subset of $\mathbb{R}^N$, we consider nonnegative solutions to the singular semilinear elliptic equation $-Δ\,u\,=\,\frac{f}{u^β}$ in $H^1_{loc}(Ω)$, under zero Dirichlet boundary conditions. For $β>0$ and $f\in L^1(Ω)$, we prove that the solution is unique.
We construct positive weak solutions of a class of semilinear elliptic equation which vanish in suitable trace sense on the boundary of a given smooth bounded N-dimensional domain, but which are singular at prescribed isolated points of the boundary. Similar constructions are carried out for solutions which are singular on any given embedded submanifold of the boundary.
We study the uniqueness of singular radial (forward and backward) self-similar positive solutions of the equation $u_t-Δu = u^p, \quad x\in{\mathbb R}^n,\ t>0,$ where $p\geq(n+2)/(n-2)_+$.
We consider positive solutions to a singular semilinear elliptic equation in bounded smooth domains, with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions. We provide some weak and strong maximum principles for the H^1_0 part of the solution that allow to deduce symmetry and monotonicity properties of the solutions, via the Moving Plane Method.
We establish the existence of solutions of the Cauchy problem for a higher-order semilinear parabolic equation by introducing a new majorizing kernel. We also study necessary conditions on the initial data for the existence of local-in-time solutions and identify the strongest singularity of the initial data for the solvability of the Cauchy problem.
In this work we study permanence of hyperbolicity for autonomous differential equations under nonautonomous random/stochastic perturbations. For the linear case, we study robustness and existence of exponential dichotomies for nonautonomous random dynamical systems. Next, we establish a result on the persistence of hyperbolic equilibria for nonlinear differential equations. We show that for each nonautonomous random perturbation of an autonomous semilinear problem with a hyperbolic equilibrium there exists a bounded \textit{random hyperbolic solution} for the associated nonlinear nonautonomous…
In this article we discuss the maximum principle for the linear equation and the sign changing solutions of the semilinear equation with the Higgs potential. Numerical simulations indicate that the bubbles for the semilinear Klein-Gordon equation in the de Sitter spacetime are created and apparently exist for all times.
In this paper we investigate the zero-relaxation limit of the following multi-D semilinear hyperbolic system in pseudodifferential form: W_{t}(x,t) + (1/epsilon) A(x,D) W(x,t) = (1/epsilon^2) B(x,W(x,t)) + (1/epsilon) D(W(x,t)) + E(W(x,t)). We analyse the singular convergence, as epsilon tends to 0, in the case which leads to a limit system of parabolic type. The analysis is carried out by using the following steps: (i) We single out algebraic ``structure conditions'' on the full system, motivated by formal asymptotics, by some examples of discrete velocity models in kinetic theories. (ii) We …
We exhibit a singularly perturbed parabolic problems for which the asymptotic behavior can be described by an one-dimensional ordinary differential equation. We estimate the continuity of attractors in the Hausdorff metric by rate of convergence of resolvent operator.
It is shown that a fourth-order semilinear parabolic equation with time-dependent absorption admit a vast multiplicity of the so-called very singular self-similar solutions (VSSs), which can bifurcate from some eigenfunctions of the linearized operators and also are generated by branching from other critical point. For the second-order semilinear heat equations, such VSSs have been known since the beginning of the 1980s and were constructed in papers by Brezis, Friedman, Galaktionov, Kyrdyumov, Samarskii, Peletier, Kamin, Veron, and many others.
Assume that $f(s) = F'(s)$ where $F$ is a double-well potential. Under certain conditions on the Lipschitz constant of $f$ on $[-1,1]$, we prove that arbitrary bounded global solutions of the semilinear equation $Δu = f(u)$ on hyperbolic space $\HH^n$ must reduce to functions of one variable provided they admit asymptotic boundary values on the infinite boundary of $\HH^n$ which are invariant under a cohomogeneity one subgroup of the group of isometries of $\HH^n$. We also prove existence of these one-dimensional solutions.
In this paper we study the global exponential stability in the $L^{2}$ norm of semilinear $1$-$d$ hyperbolic systems on a bounded domain, when the source term and the nonlinear boundary conditions are Lipschitz. We exhibit two sufficient stability conditions: an internal condition and a boundary condition. This result holds also when the source term is nonlocal. Finally, we show its robustness by extending it to global Input-to State Stability in the $L^{2}$ norm with respect to both interior and boundary disturbances.
We exhibit a class of singularly perturbed parabolic problems which the asymptotic behavior can be described by a system of ordinary differential equation. We estimate the convergence of attractors in the Hausdorff metric by rate of convergence of resolvent operators. Application to spatial homogenization and large diffusion except in a neighborhood of a point will be considered.
We investigate qualitative properties of positive singular solutions of some elliptic systems in bounded and unbounded domains. We deduce symmetry and monotonicity properties via the moving plane procedure. Moreover, in the unbounded case, we study some cooperative elliptic systems involving critical nonlinearities in $\mathbb{R}^n$.
We study a semilinear parabolic equation that possesses global bounded weak solutions whose gradient has a singularity in the interior of the domain for all $t>0$. The singularity of these solutions is of the same type as the singularity of a stationary solution to which they converge as $t\to\infty$.
We show that nontrivial solutions to higher and fractional order equations with certain nonlinearity are radially symmetric and nonincreasing on geodesic balls in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^n$ as well as on the entire space $\mathbb{H}^n$. Applying the Helgason-Fourier analysis techniques on $\mathbb{H}^n$, we develop a moving plane approach for integral equations on $\mathbb{H}^n$. We also establish the symmetry to solutions of certain equations with singular terms on Euclidean spaces. Moreover, we obtain symmetry to solutions of some semilinear equations involving fractional order deri…
We consider positive solutions $u$ of the semilinear biharmonic equation $Δ^2 u = |x|^{-\frac{n+4}{2}} g(|x|^\frac{n-4}{2} u)$ in $\mathbb R^n \setminus \{0\}$ with non-removable singularities at the origin. Under natural assumptions on the nonlinearity $g$, we show that $|x|^\frac{n-4}{2} u$ is a periodic function of $\ln |x|$ and we classify all such solutions.
We investigate inverse boundary problems associated with a time-dependent semilinear hyperbolic equation, where both nonlinearity and sources (including initial displacement and initial velocity) are unknown. We establish in several generic scenarios that one can uniquely determine the nonlinearity or the sources by using passive or active boundary observations. In order to exploit the nonlinearity and the sources simultaneously, we develop a new technique, which combines the observability for linear wave equations and a Runge approximation with higher order linearization for the semilinear hy…
This paper deals with existence and regularity of positive solutions of singular elliptic problems on a smooth bounded domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions involving the $Φ$-Laplacian operator. The proof of existence is based on a variant of the generalized Galerkin method that we developed inspired on ideas by Browder and a comparison principle. By using a kind of Moser iteration scheme we show $L^{\infty}(Ω)$-regularity for positive solutions
We investigate nodal radial solutions to semilinear problems of type \[\begin{cases}-Δu = f(|x|,u) \qquad & \text{ in } Ω, \newline u= 0 & \text{ on } \partial Ω, \end{cases} \] where $Ω$ is a bounded radially symmetric domain of $\mathbb R^N$ ($N\ge 2$) and $f$ is a real function. We characterize both the Morse index and the degeneracy in terms of a singular one dimensional eigenvalue problem, which is studied in full detail. The presented approach also describes the symmetries of the eigenfunctions. This characterization enables to give a lower bound for the Morse index in a forthcoming work…
Let $(u,v)$ be a nonnegative solution to the semilinear parabolic system \[ \mbox{(P)} \qquad \cases{ \partial_t u=D_1Δu+v^p, & $x\in{\bf R}^N,\,\,\,t>0,$\\ \partial_t v=D_2Δv+u^q, & $x\in{\bf R}^N,\,\,\,t>0,$\\ (u(\cdot,0),v(\cdot,0))=(μ,ν), & $x\in{\bf R}^N,$ } \] where $D_1$, $D_2>0$, $0<p\le q$ with $pq>1$ and $(μ,ν)$ is a pair of nonnegative Radon measures or nonnegative measurable functions in ${\bf R}^N$. In this paper we study sufficient conditions on the initial data for the solvability of problem~(P) and clarify optimal singularities of the initial functions for the solvability.
We consider equation $-Δu+f(x,u)=0$ in smooth bounded domain $Ω\in\mathbb{R}^N$, $N\geqslant2$, with $f(x,r)>0$ in $Ω\times\mathbb{R}^1_+$ and $f(x,r)=0$ on $\partialΩ$. We find the condition on the order of degeneracy of $f(x,r)$ near $\partialΩ$, which is a criterion of the existence-nonexistence of a very singular solution with a strong point singularity on $\partialΩ$. Moreover, we prove that the mentioned condition is a sufficient condition for the uniqueness of a large solution and conjecture that this condition is also a necessary condition of the uniqueness.
Let $n\geq2$ and $ Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ be a Lipschitz wedge- like domain . We construct positive weak solutions of the problem $$Δu + u^p = 0 \quad\hbox{in}\, Ω,$$ which vanish in a suitable trace sense on $\partialΩ,$ but which are singular at prescribed "edge" of $Ω$ if $p$ is equal or slightly above a certain exponent $p_0>1$ which depends on $Ω.$ Moreover, in the case which $Ω$ is unbounded, the solutions have fast decay at infinity.
