In this work we study permanence of hyperbolicity for autonomous differential equations under nonautonomous random/stochastic perturbations. For the linear case, we study robustness and existence of exponential dichotomies for nonautonomous random dynamical systems. Next, we establish a result on the persistence of hyperbolic equilibria for nonlinear differential equations. We show that for each nonautonomous random perturbation of an autonomous semilinear problem with a hyperbolic equilibrium there exists a bounded \textit{random hyperbolic solution} for the associated nonlinear nonautonomous random dynamical systems. Moreover, we show that these random hyperbolic solutions converge to the autonomous equilibrium. As an application, we consider a semilinear differential equation with a small nonautonomous multiplicative white noise, and as an example, we apply the abstract results to a strongly damped wave equation.
We consider asymptotically autonomous semilinear parabolic equations u_t + Au = f(t,u). Suppose that $f(t,.)\to f^\pm$ as $t\to\pm\infty$, where the semiflows induced by \label{eq:140602-1511} u_t + Au = f^\pm(u) \tag{*} are gradient-like. Under certain assumptions, it is shown that generically with respect to a perturbation $g$ with $g(t)\to 0$ as $|t|\to\infty$, every solution of u_t + Au = f(t,u) + g(t) is a connection between equilibria $e^\pm$ of \eqref{eq:140602-1511} with $m(e^-)\geq m(e^+)$. Moreover, if the Morse indices satisfy $m(e^-) = m(e^+)$, then $u$ is isolated by linearization…
We study mild solutions of a class of stochastic partial differential equations, involving operators with polynomially bounded coefficients. We consider semilinear equations under suitable hyperbolicity hypotheses on the linear part. We provide conditions on the initial data and on the stochastic terms, namely, on the associated spectral measure, so that mild solutions exist and are unique in suitably chosen functional classes. More precisely, function-valued solutions are obtained, as well as a regularity result.
The problem of blow up of solutions to the initial boundary value problem for non-autonomous semilinear wave equation with damping and accelerating terms under the Robin boundary condition is studied. Sufficient conditions of blow up in a finite time of solutions to semilinear damped wave equations with arbitrary large initial energy are obtained. A result on blow up of solutions with negative initial energy of semilinear second order wave equation with accelerating term is also obtained.
We prove that flat ground state solutions ($i.e.$ minimizing the energy and with gradient vanishing on the boundary of the domain) of the Dirichlet problem associated to some semilinear autonomous elliptic equations with a strong absorption term given by a non-Lipschitz function are unstable for dimensions $N=1,2$ and they can be stable for $N\geq 3$ for suitable values of the involved exponents.
We consider a parabolic equation of the form u_t=Δu +f(u)+h(x,t) in R^N\times (0,\infty), where f in C^1(R) is such that f(0)=0 and f'(0)<0 and h is a suitable function on R^N\times (0,\infty). We show that under certain conditions, each globally defined and nonnegative bounded solution u converges to a single steady state.
It is believed or conjectured that the semilinear wave equations with scattering space dependent damping admit the Strauss critical exponent, see Ikehata-Todorova-Yordanov \cite{ITY}(the bottom in page 2) and Nishihara-Sobajima-Wakasugi \cite{N2}(conjecture iii in page 4). In this work, we are devoted to showing the conjecture is true at least when the decay rate of the space dependent variable coefficients before the damping is larger than 2. Also, if the nonlinear term depends only on the derivative of the solution, we may prove the upper bound of the lifespan is the same as that of the solu…
We establish well-posedness results for non-autonomous semilinear input-output systems, the central assumption being the scattering-passivity of the considered semilinear system. We consider both systems with distributed control and observation and systems with boundary control and observation. Applications are given to nonlinearly controlled collocated systems and to nonlinearly controlled port-Hamiltonian systems.
Here we design boundary feedback stabilizers to unbounded trajectories, for semi-linear stochastic heat equation with cubic non-linearity. The feedback controller is linear, given in a simple explicit form and involves only the eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator. It is supported in a given open subset of the boundary of the domain. Via a rescaling argument, we transform the stochastic equation into a random deterministic one. Then, the simple form of the feedback, we propose here, allows to write the solution, of the random equation, in a mild formulation via a kernel. Appealing to a fixed…
We show that a simple Levi compatibility condition determines stability of WKB solutions to semilinear hyperbolic initial-value problems issued from highly-oscillating initial data with large amplitudes. The compatibility condition involves the hyperbolic operator, the fundamental phase associated with the initial oscillation, and the semilinear source term; it states roughly that hyperbolicity is preserved around resonances. If the compatibility condition is satisfied, the solutions are defined over time intervals independent of the wavelength, and the associated WKB solutions are stable unde…
In this paper we will see that the global or local existence of solutions to \begin{eqnarray*} \dfrac{\partial u_{1}}{\partial t} & = & \mathit{k}_{1} (t) Δu_{1} + h_{1}(t) u_{1}^{p_{11}} u_{2}^{p_{12}},\\ \dfrac{\partial u_{2}}{\partial t} & = & \mathit{k}_{2} (t) Δu_{2} + h_{2}(t) u_{2}^{p_{22}} u_{1}^{p_{21}}, \end{eqnarray*} depends on the initial datums and the global or local existence of solutions to \begin{eqnarray*} \dfrac{dy_{1}}{dt} & = & h_{1}(t) y_{1}^{p_{11}}(t) y_{2}^{p_{12}}(t),\\ \dfrac{dy_{2}}{dt} & = & h_{2}(t) y_{2}^{p_{22}}(t) y_{1}^{p_{21}}(t). \end{eqnarray*} We also giv…
We investigate the asymptotic behavior, as t goes to infinity, for a semilinear hyperbolic equation with asymptotically smal dissipation and convex potential. We prove that if the damping term behaves like K/t^αfor t large enough, k>0 and 0</alpha<1 then every global solution converges weakly to an equilibrium point. This result is a positive answer to a question left open in the paper [A. Cabot and P. Frankel, Asymptotics for some semilinear hyperbolic equation with non-autonomous damping. J. Differential Equations 252 (2012) 294-322.]
We investigate existence, uniqueness and regularity for local solutions of rough parabolic equations with subcritical noise of the form $du_t- L_tu_tdt= N(u_t)dt + \sum_{i = 1}^dF_i(u_t)d\mathbf X^i_t$ where $(L_t)_{t\in[0,T]}$ is a time-dependent family of unbounded operators acting on some scale of Banach spaces, while $\mathbf X\equiv(X,\mathbb X)$ is a two-step (non-necessarily geometric) rough path of Hölder regularity $γ>1/3.$ Besides dealing with non-autonomous evolution equations, our results also allow for unbounded operations in the noise term (up to some critical loss of regularity …
In this paper, we prove some blow-up results for the semilinear wave equation in generalized Einstein-de Sitter spacetime by using an iteration argument and we derive upper bound estimates for the lifespan. In particular, we will focus on the critical cases which require the employment of a slicing procedure in the iterative mechanism. Furthermore, in order to deal with the main critical case, we will introduce a non-autonomous and parameter-dependent Cauchy problem for a linear ODE of second-order, whose explicit solution will be determined by applying the theory of special functions.
We prove by using an iteration argument some blow-up results for a semilinear damped wave equation in generalized Einstein-de Sitter spacetime with a time-dependent coefficient for the damping term and power nonlinearity. Then, we conjecture an expression for the critical exponent due to the main blow-up results, which is consistent with many special cases of the considered model and provides a natural generalization of Strauss exponent. In the critical case, we consider a non-autonomous and parameter-dependent Cauchy problem for a linear ODE of second-order, whose explicit solutions are deter…
In this paper, we investigate the lifespan estimates of classical solutions of the initial value problems for semilinear wave equations of derivative type with characteristic weights in one space dimension. Such equations provide us basic principles on extending the general theory for nonlinear wave equations to the non-autonomous case. In our results, two characteristic weights interact with each others and produce a different range of parameters on the global-in-time existence from the nonlinear terms of unknown function itself.
We extend the classical Pohozaev's identity to semilinear elliptic systems of Hamiltonian type, providing a simpler approach, and a generalization, of the results of E. Mitidieri [6], R.C.A.M. Van der Vorst [14], and Y. Bozhkov and E. Mitidieri [1].
We prove the exact multiplicity of flat and compact support stable solutions of an autonomous non-Lipschitz semilinear elliptic equation of eigenvalue type according to the dimension N and the two exponents, $0<α<β<1$, of the involved nonlinearites. Suitable assumptions are made on the spatial domain $Ω$ where the problem is formulated in order to avoid a possible continuum of those solutions and, on the contrary, to ensure the exact number of solutions according to the nature of the domain $Ω$. Our results also clarify some previous works in the literature. The main techniques of proof are a …
We generalize the Beurling--Deny--Ouhabaz criterion for parabolic evolution equations governed by forms to the non-autonomous, non-homogeneous and semilinear case. Let $V, H$ are Hilbert spaces such that $V$ is continuously and densely embedded in $H$ and let $\mathcal{A}(t)\colon V\to V^\prime$ be the operator associated with a bounded $H$-elliptic form $\mathfrak{a}(t,.,.)\colon V\times V \to \mathbb{C}$ for all $t \in [0,T]$. Suppose $\mathcal{C} \subset H$ is closed and convex and $P \colon H \to H$ the orthogonal projection onto $\mathcal{C}$. Given $f \in L^2(0,T;V')$ and $u_0\in \mathca…
We construct a new class of positive solutions for a classical semilinear elliptic problem in the plane which arise for instance as the standing-wave problem for the standard nonlinear Schrödinger equation or in nonlinear models in Turing's theory biological theory of pattern formation such as the Gray-Scott or Gierer-Meinhardt systems. The solutions we construct have the property that their energy over a ball of radius R grows linearly with R as R tends to infinity. These solutions are strongly related to the solutions of a Toda system.
In this work, we study continuity and topological structural stability of attractors for nonautonomous random differential equations obtained by small bounded random perturbations of autonomous semilinear problems. First, we study existence and permanence of unstable sets of hyperbolic solutions. Then, we use this to establish lower semicontinuity of nonautonomous random attractors and to show that the gradient structure persists under nonautonomous random perturbations. Finally, we apply the abstract results in a stochastic differential equation and in a damped wave equation with a perturbati…
We study the wellposedness and pathwise regularity of semilinear non-autonomous parabolic evolution equations with boundary and interior noise in an $L^p$ setting. We obtain existence and uniqueness of mild and weak solutions. The boundary noise term is reformulated as a perturbation of a stochastic evolution equation with values in extrapolation spaces.
