In this article, we study the group of autoequivalences of derived categories of coherent sheaves on the minimal resolution of $A_n$-singularities on surfaces. Our main result is to find generators of this group.
We study the group of autoequivalences of the derived categories of coherent sheaves on smooth projective elliptic surfaces with non-zero Kodaira dimensions. We find a description of it when each reducible fiber is a cycle of $(-2)$-curves.
We describe new autoequivalences of derived categories of coherent sheaves arising from what we call $\mathbb P^n$-objects of the category. Standard examples arise from holomorphic symplectic manifolds. Under mirror symmetry these autoequivalences should be mirror to Seidel's Dehn twists about lagrangian $\mathbb P^n$ submanifolds. We give various connections to spherical objects and spherical twists, and include a simple description of Atiyah and Kodaira-Spencer classes in an appendix.
Discrete derived categories were studied initially by Vossieck and later by Bobiński, Geiß, Skowroński. In this article, we describe the homomorphism hammocks and autoequivalences on these categories. We classify silting objects and bounded t-structures.
We identify a class of autoequivalences of triangulated categories of singularities associated with Calabi-Yau complete intersections in toric varieties. Elements of this class satisfy relations that are directly linked to the toric data.
We study autoequivalence groups of the derived categories on smooth projective surfaces, and show a trichotomy of types according to the maximal dimension of Fourier--Mukai kernels for autoequivalences. This number is $2$, $3$ or $4$, and we also pose a conjecture on the description of autoequivalence groups if it is $2$, and prove it in some special cases.
We study autoequivalences of the derived category of coherent sheaves of a variety arising from a variation of GIT quotient. We show that these automorphisms are spherical twists, and describe how they result from mutations of semiorthogonal decompositions. Beyond the GIT setting, we show that all spherical twist autoequivalences of a dg-category can be obtained from mutation in this manner. Motivated by a prediction from mirror symmetry, we refine the recent notion of "grade restriction rules" in equivariant derived categories. We produce additional derived autoequivalences of a GIT quotient …
Homological mirror symmetry predicts that there is a relation between autoequivalence groups of derived categories of coherent sheaves on Calabi-Yau varieties, and the symplectic mapping class groups of symplectic manifolds. In this paper, as an analogue of Dehn twists for mapping class groups of closed oriented real surfaces, we study spherical twists for derived categories of algebraic varieties. We introduce the intersection number and relate it to group-theoretic properties of spherical twists. As an application, we compute the center of autoequivalence groups of derived categories of K3 s…
We consider smooth algebraic varieties with ample either canonical or anticanonical sheaf. We prove that such a variety is uniquely determined by its derived category of coherent sheaves. We also calculate the group of exact autoequivalences for these categories. The technics of ample sequences in abelian categories is used.
We construct new examples of derived autoequivalences for a family of higher-dimensional Calabi-Yau varieties. Specifically, we take the total spaces of certain natural vector bundles over Grassmannians G(r,d) of r-planes in a d-dimensional vector space, and define endofunctors of the bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves associated to these varieties. In the case r=2 we show that these are autoequivalences using the theory of spherical functors. Our autoequivalences naturally generalize the Seidel-Thomas spherical twist for analogous bundles over projective spaces.
We discuss derived categories of coherent sheaves on algebraic varieties. We focus on the case of non-singular Calabi-Yau varieties and consider two unsolved problems: proving that birational varieties have equivalent derived categories, and computing the group of derived autoequivalences. We also introduce the space of stability conditions on a triangulated category and explain its relevance to these two problems.
We begin by discussing various ways autoequivalences and stability conditions associated to triangulated categories can interact. Once an appropriate definition of compatibility is formulated, we derive a sufficiency criterion for this compatibility. We next apply this criterion to derived categories associated to Galois covers of the Weierstrass nodal cubic, known as n-gons and denoted by E_n. These are singular non-irreducible genus 1 curves naturally arising in variety of contexts, including as certain degenerations of elliptic curves. In particular, fixing the stability condition to be the…
We introduce invariants, called shifting numbers, that measure the asymptotic amount by which an autoequivalence of a triangulated category translates inside the category. The invariants are analogous to Poincare translation numbers that are widely used in dynamical systems. We additionally establish that in some examples the shifting numbers provide a quasimorphism on the group of autoequivalences. Additionally, we relate our shifting numbers to the entropy function introduced by Dimitrov, Haiden, Katzarkov, and Kontsevich.
In this paper, we study relations between automorphism groups of cubic fourfolds and Kuznetsov components. Firstly, we characterize automorphism groups of cubic fourfolds as subgroups of autoequivalence groups of Kuznetsov components using Bridgeland stability conditions. Secondly, we compare automorphism groups of cubic fourfolds with automorphism groups of their associated K3 surfaces. Thirdly, we note that the existence of a non-trivial symplectic automorphism on a cubic fourfold is related to the existence of associated K3 surfaces.
We study perverse sheaves of categories their connections to classical algebraic geometry. We show how perverse sheaves of categories encode naturally derived categories of coherent sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^1$ bundles, semiorthogonal decompositions, and relate them to a recent proof of Segal that all autoequivalences of triangulated categories are spherical twists. Furthermore, we show that perverse sheaves of categories can be used to represent certain degenerate Calabi--Yau varieties.
This is an expository survey article on compound Du Val (cDV) singularities, with emphasis on recent homological approaches, including: noncommutative resolutions, tilting theory, contraction algebras, classification, derived categories, autoequivalences, stability conditions, deformation theory, and cluster tilting theory.
We study Fourier--Mukai partners of elliptic ruled surfaces. We also describe the autoequivalence group of the derived categories of ruled surfaces with an elliptic fibration, by using \cite{Ue15}.
We give a moduli-theoretic proof of the classical theorem of Gabriel, stating that a scheme can be reconstructed from the abelian category of quasi-coherent sheaves over it. The methods employed are elementary and allow us to extend the theorem to (quasi-compact and separated) algebraic spaces. Using more advanced technology (and assuming flatness) we also give a proof of the folklore result that the group of autoequivalences of the category of quasi-coherent sheaves consists of automorphisms of the underlying space and twists by line bundles. We apply our strategy to prove analogous statement…
For every smooth quasi-projective surface X we construct a series of P^{n-1}-functors H_{l,n}: D(X x X^[l]) --> D(X^[n+l]) between the derived categories of the Hilbert schemes of points for n>max{l,1} using the derived McKay correspondence. They can be considered as analogues of the Nakajima operators. The functors also restrict to P^{n-1}-functors on the generalised Kummer varieties. We also study the induced autoequivalences and obtain, for example, a universal braid relation in the groups of derived autoequivalences of Hilbert squares of K3 surfaces and Kummer fourfolds.
We prove an equivalence of triangulated categories between Orlov's triangulated category of singularities for a Gorenstein cyclic quotient singularity and the derived category of representations of a quiver with relations which is obtained from the McKay quiver by removing one vertex and half of the arrows.
A K3 category is by definition a Calabi-Yau category of dimension two. Geometrically K3 categories occur as bounded derived categories of (twisted) coherent sheaves on K3 or abelian surfaces. A K3 category is generic if there are no spherical objects (or just one up to shift). We study stability conditions on K3 categories as introduced by Bridgeland and prove his conjecture about the topology of the stability manifold and the autoequivalences group for generic twisted projective K3, abelian surfaces, and K3 surfaces with trivial Picard group.
The main propose of this paper is to show that Bridgeland's moduli space of perverse point sheaves for certain flopping contractions gives the flops, and the Fourier-Mukai transform given by the birational correspondence of the flop is an equivalence between bounded derived categories.
We study the categories of singularities coming from Landau-Ginzburg models given by the invertible polynomials. Such categories appear on the B-side of the Berglund-Hübsch mirror symmetry. We provide an efficient method of computing morphism spaces in these categories and explicitly construct full strongly exceptional collections in the cases of small dimensions ($n\le 3$). Finally, we use this construction in order to prove Orlov's conjecture stating that such collections can be chosen to have block decompositions of size one more than the number of variables.
We describe the derived category of coherent sheaves on the minimal resolution of the Kleinian singularity associated to a finite subgroup G of SL(2). Then, we give an application to the Euler-characteristic version of the Hall algebra of the category of coherent sheaves on an algebraic surface.
We show the existence of a full exceptional collection in the graded stable derived category of a Gorenstein isolated quotient singularity using a result of Orlov (arXiv:math/0503632). We also show that the equivariant graded stable derived category of a Gorenstein Veronese subring of a polynomial ring with respect to an action of a finite group has a full strong exceptional collection, even if the corresponding quotient singularity is neither isolated nor Gorenstein.
We generalize the construction given in math.AG/0309435 of a "constant" t-structure on the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves $D(X\times S)$ starting with a t-structure on $D(X)$. Namely, we remove smoothness and quasiprojectivity assumptions on $X$ and $S$ and work with t-structures that are not necessarily Noetherian but are close to Noetherian in the appropriate sense. The main new tool is the construction of induced t-structures that uses unbounded derived categories of quasicoherent sheaves and relies on the results of \cite{AJS}. As an application of the "constant" t-structures…
For a cyclic group $G$ acting on a smooth variety $X$ with only one character occurring in the $G$-equivariant decomposition of the normal bundle of the fixed point locus, we study the derived categories of the orbifold $[X/G]$ and the blow-up resolution $\widetilde Y \to X/G$. Some results generalise known facts about $X = A^n$ with diagonal $G$-action, while other results are new also in this basic case. In particular, if the codimension of the fixed point locus equals $|G|$, we study the induced tensor products under the equivalence $D^b(\widetilde Y) \cong D^b([X/G])$ and give a 'flop-flop…
Given a smooth 3-fold $Y$, a line bundle $L \to Y$, and a section $s$ of $L$ such that the vanishing locus of $s$ is a normal crossings surface $X$ with graph-like singular locus, we present a way to reconstruct the singularity category of $X$ as a homotopy limit of several copies of the category of matrix factorizations of $xyz : \mathbb{A}^{3} \to \mathbb{A}^{1}$ (the mirror to the Fukaya category of the pair of pants). This extends our previous result for the case where $L$ is trivialized. The key technique is the classification of non-two-periodic autoequivalences of the category of matrix…
In this paper we prove an existence of some type of equivalences between triangulated categories of singularities for varieties of different dimensions. This class of equivalences generalizes so called Knörrer periodicity. As consequence we get equivalences between categories of D-branes of type B on Landau-Ginzburg models of different dimensions.
The main goal of this paper is to prove that the idempotent completions of the triangulated categories of singularities of two schemes are equivalent if the formal completions of these schemes along singularities are isomorphic. We also discuss Thomason theorem on dense subcategories and a relation to the negative K-theory.
In spite of physics terms in the title, this paper is purely mathematical. Its purpose is to introduce triangulated categories related to singularities of algebraic varieties and establish a connection of these categories with D-branes in Landau-Ginzburg models.
We give two proofs to the following theorem and its generalization: if a finite dimensional algebra $A$ is derived equivalent to a smooth projective scheme, then any derived equivalence between $A$ and another algebra $B$ is standard, that is, isomorphic to the derived tensor functor by a two-sided tilting complex. The main ingredients of the proofs are as follows: (1) between the derived categories of two module categories, liftable functors coincide with standard functors; (2) any derived equivalence between a module category and an abelian category is uniquely factorized as the composition …
In this paper we establish an equivalence between the category of graded D-branes of type B in Landau-Ginzburg models with homogeneous superpotential W and the triangulated category of singularities of the fiber of W over zero. The main result is a theorem that shows that the graded triangulated category of singularities of the cone over a projective variety is connected via a fully faithful functor to the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on the base of the cone. This implies that the category of graded D-branes of type B in Landau-Ginzburg models with homogeneous superpotential W …
In this paper we show that every object in the dg category of relative singularities Sing$(B,\underline{f})$ associated to a pair $(B,\underline{f})$, where $B$ is a ring and $\underline{f}\in B^n$, is equivalent to a retract of a $K(B,\underline{f})$-dg module concentrated in $n+1$ degrees. When $n=1$, we show that Orlov's comparison theorem, which relates the dg category of relative singularities and that of matrix factorizations of an LG-model, holds true without any regularity assumption on the potential.
We study Serre duality in the singularity category of an isolated Gorenstein singularity and find an explicit formula for the duality pairing in terms of generalised fractions and residues. For hypersurfaces we recover the residue formula of the string theorists Kapustin and Li. These results are obtained from an explicit construction of complete injective resolutions of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules.
We shall show that the stable categories of graded Cohen-Macaulay modules over quotient singularities have tilting objects. In particular, these categories are triangle equivalent to derived categories of finite dimensional algebras. Our method is based on higher dimensional Auslander-Reiten theory, which gives cluster tilting objects in the stable categories of (ungraded) Cohen-Macaulay modules.
We show that the derived category of any singularity over a field of characteristic 0 can be embedded fully and faithfully into a smooth triangulated category which has a semiorthogonal decomposition with components equivalent to derived categories of smooth varieties. This provides a categorical resolution of the singularity.
We introduce a new class of finite dimensional algebras, called extended canonical, investigate their derived categories and study the spectral behavior of their Coxeter transformations. The subject relates to the triangulated categories of (graded) singularities introduced by R. Buchweitz (1987) and D. Orlov (2004).
This is a short note on the relation between the graded stable derived categories of 14 exceptional unimodal singularities and the derived category of K3 surfaces obtained as compactifications of the Milnor fibers. As a corollary, we obtain a basis of the numerical Grothendieck group similar to the one given by Ebeling and Ploog (arXiv:0809.2738).
We describe the spaces of stability conditions on certain triangulated categories associated to Dynkin diagrams. These categories can be defined either algebraically via module categories of preprojective algebras, or geometrically via coherent sheaves on resolutions of Kleinian singularities. The resulting spaces are related to regular subsets of the corresponding complexified Cartan algebras.
We introduce the notion of a poset scheme and study the categories of quasi-coherent sheaves on such spaces. We then show that smooth poset schemes may be used to obtain categorical resolutions of singularities for usual singular schemes. We prove that a singular variety $X$ possesses such a resolution if and only if $X$ has Du Bois singularities. Finally we show that the de Rham-Du Bois complex for an algebraic variety $Y$ may be defined using any smooth poset scheme which satisfies the descent over $Y$ in the classical topology.
We construct Knörrer type equivalences outside of the hypersurface case, namely, between singularity categories of cyclic quotient surface singularities and certain finite dimensional local algebras. This generalises Knörrer's equivalence for singularities of Dynkin type A (between Krull dimensions $2$ and $0$) and yields many new equivalences between singularity categories of finite dimensional algebras. Our construction uses noncommutative resolutions of singularities, relative singularity categories, and an idea of Hille & Ploog yielding strongly quasi-hereditary algebras which we describe …
We study the relationship between singularity categories and relative singularity categories and discuss constructions of differential graded algebras of relative singularity categories. As consequences, we obtain structural results, which are known or generalise known results, on singularity categories of algebras with radical square zero, of non-commutative deformations of Kleinian singularities, of $SL_3(\mathbb{C})$-quotient singularities and of Gorenstein toric threefolds.
We discuss recent developments in the study of semiorthogonal decompositions of algebraic varieties with an emphasis on their behaviour in families. First, we overview new results concerning homological projective duality. Then we introduce residual categories, discuss their relation to small quantum cohomology, and compute Serre dimensions of residual categories of complete intersections. After that we define simultaneous resolutions of singularities and describe a construction that works in particular for nodal degenerations of even-dimensional varieties. Finally, we introduce the concept of…
