I discuss mirrors of Landau-Ginzburg models formed by a minimal semisimple adjoint orbit of $\mathfrak{sl}(n)$ together with a potential obtained via the Cartan-Killing form. I show that the Landau-Ginzburg models produced by the Gross-Siebert recipe give precisely the objects of the desired mirrors.
It is known that Landau-Ginzburg model $LG(2)$ over the semisimple adjoint orbit of $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ does not have projective mirrors. I prove Homological Mirror Symmetry for $LG(2)$ by constructing a Landau-Ginzburg mirror and showing that its Orlov category of singularities is equivalent to $Fuk(LG(2))$.
Gross and Siebert identified a class of singular Lagrangian torus fibrations which arise when smoothing toroidal degenerations, and which come in pairs that are related by mirror symmetry. We identify an immersed Lagrangian in each of these local models which supports a moduli space of objects that is isomorphic to the mirror space, and prove a homological mirror statement along the way.
We prove homological mirror symmetry for Lefschetz fibrations obtained as disconnected sums of polynomials of types A or D. The proof is based on the behavior of the Fukaya category under the addition of a polynomial of type D.
We define and calculate the weighted multiplicities of non Gorenstein terminal singularities on threefolds and some quotient singularities. We improve freeness conditions on threefolds.
We prove that the derived Fukaya category of the Lefschetz fibration defined by a Brieskorn-Pham polynomial is equivalent to the triangulated category of singularities associated with the same polynomial together with a grading by an abelian group of rank one. Symplectic Picard-Lefschetz theory developed by Seidel is an essential ingredient of the proof.
We prove homological mirror symmetry for Milnor fibers of simple singularities in dimensions greater than one, which are among the log Fano cases of Conjecture 1.5 in arXiv:1806.04345. The proof is based on a relation between matrix factorizations and Calabi--Yau completions. As an application, we give an explicit computation of the Hochschild cohomology group of the derived $n$-preprojective algebra of a Dynkin quiver for any $n \geq 1$, and the symplectic cohomology group of the Milnor fiber of any simple singularity in any dimension greater than one.
Given a two-variable invertible polynomial, we show that its category of maximally-graded matrix factorisations is quasi-equivalent to the Fukaya-Seidel category of its Berglund-Hübsch transpose. This was previously shown for Brieskorn-Pham and $D$-type singularities by Futaki-Ueda. The proof involves explicit construction of a tilting object on the B-side, and comparison with a specific basis of Lefschetz thimbles on the A-side.
We discuss the relation between transposition mirror symmetry of Berlund and Hübsch for bimodal singularities and polar duality of Batyrev for associated toric K3 hypersurfaces. We also show that homological mirror symmetry for singularities implies the geometric construction of Coxeter-Dynkin diagrams of bimodal singularities by Ebeling and Ploog.
We study versions of homological mirror symmetry for hypersurface cusp singularities and the three hypersurface simple elliptic singularities. We show that the Milnor fibres of each of these carries a distinguished Lefschetz fibration; its derived directed Fukaya category is equivalent to the derived category of coherent sheaves on a smooth rational surface $Y_{p,q,r}$. By using localization techniques on both sides, we get an isomorphism between the derived wrapped Fukaya category of the Milnor fibre and the derived category of coherent sheaves on a quasi-projective surface given by deleting …
We give a full exceptional collection in the triangulated category of singularities in the sense of Orlov for a hypersurface singularity of Fermat type, and discuss its relation with homological mirror symmetry for simple elliptic hypersurface singularities.
We study lattice polarizations of five exceptional pairs of families of K3 surfaces obtained via compactifications of strange dual pairs of bimodal singularities. We show that the polarizations induced by embedding these paired families in paired toric varieties obtained from polar dual reflexive polytopes cannot be mirror lattices and identify mirror sublattices.
We generalize the result of Kawamata concerning the strong version of Fujita's freeness conjecture for smooth 3-folds to some singular cases, namely, Gorenstein terminal singularities and quotient singularities of type 1/r(1,1,1) and of type 1/r(1,1,-1). We generalize furthermore the result of that to projective threefolds with only canonical singularities for canonical and not terminal singularities. It turns out that the estimates in the first three cases are better than the one for the smooth case, which it is not in the fourth case. We also give explicit examples which show the estimate in…
We give a survey on results related to the Berglund-Hübsch duality of invertible polynomials and the homological mirror symmetry conjecture for singularities.
Ebeling and Ploog \cite{EbelingPloog} studied a duality of bimodular singularities which is part of the Berglund--H$\ddot{\textnormal{u}}$bsch mirror symmetry. Mase and Ueda \cite{MU} showed that this duality leads to a polytope mirror symmetry of families of $K3$ surfaces. We discuss in this article how this symmetry extends to a symmetry between lattices.
Previously, we introduced a duality transformation for Euler $G$--Frobenius algebras. Using this transformation, we prove that the simple $A,D,E$ singularities and Pham singularities of coprime powers are mirror self--dual where the mirror duality is implemented by orbifolding with respect to the symmetry group generated by the grading operator and dualizing. We furthermore calculate orbifolds and duals to other $G$--Frobenius algebras which relate different $G$--Frobenius algebras for singularities. In particular, using orbifolding and the duality transformation we provide a mirror pairs for …
We introduce a new variant of tight closure and give an interpretation of adjoint ideals via this tight closure. As a corollary, we prove that a log pair $(X,Δ)$ is plt if and only if the modulo $p$ reduction of $(X,Δ)$ is divisorially F-regular for all large $p \gg 0$. Here, divisorially F-regular pairs are a class of singularities in positive characteristic introduced by Hara and Watanabe in terms of Frobenius splitting.
We consider a mirror symmetry of simple elliptic singularities. In particular, we construct isomorphisms of Frobenius manifolds among the one from the Gromov--Witten theory of a weighted projective line, the one from the theory of primitive forms for a universal unfolding of a simple elliptic singularity and the one from the invariant theory for an elliptic Weyl group. As a consequence, we give a geometric interpretation of the Fourier coefficients of an eta product considered by K. Saito.
We use the framework of perfectoid big Cohen-Macaulay algebras to define a class of singularities for pairs in mixed characteristic, which we call purely BCM-regular singularities, and a corresponding adjoint ideal. We prove that these satisfy adjunction and inversion of adjunction with respect to the notion of BCM-regularity and the BCM test ideal defined by the first two authors. We compare them with the existing equal characteristic PLT and purely $F$-regular singularities and adjoint ideals. As an application, we obtain a uniform version of the Briançon-Skoda theorem in mixed characteristi…
We consider an orbifold Landau-Ginzburg model $(f,G)$, where $f$ is an invertible polynomial in three variables and $G$ a finite group of symmetries of $f$ containing the exponential grading operator, and its Berglund-Hübsch transpose $(f^T, G^T)$. We show that this defines a mirror symmetry between orbifold curves and cusp singularities with group action. We define Dolgachev numbers for the orbifold curves and Gabrielov numbers for the cusp singularities with group action. We show that these numbers are the same and that the stringy Euler number of the orbifold curve coincides with the $G^T$-…
In this paper, we prove the mirror symmetry conjecture between the Saito-Givental theory of exceptional unimodular singularities on Landau-Ginzburg B-side and the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten theory of their mirror partners on Landau-Ginzburg A-side. On the B-side, we compute the genus-zero generating function from a perturbative formula of primitive forms introduced by the first three authors recently. This computation matches the orbifold-Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch and WDVV calculations in FJRW theory on the A-side. The coincidence of the full data at all genera is established by reconstruction tec…
Burban-Drozd showed that the degenerate cusp singularities have tame Cohen-Macaulay representation type, and classified all indecomposable Cohen-Macaulay modules over them. One of their main example is the non-isolated singularity $W=xyz$. On the other hand, Abouzaid-Auroux-Efimov-Katzarkov-Orlov showed that $W=xyz$ is mirror to a pair of pants. In this paper, we investigate homological mirror symmetry of these indecomposable Cohen-Macaulay modules for $xyz$. Namely, we show that closed geodesics (with a flat $\mathbb{C}$-bundle) of a hyperbolic pair of pants have a one-to-one correspondence w…
We describe the Fukaya-Seidel category of a Landau-Ginzburg model LG(2) for the semisimple adjoint orbit of sl(2,C). We prove that this category is equivalent to a full triangulated subcategory of the category of coherent sheaves on the second Hirzebruch surface. We show that no projective variety can be mirror to LG(2), and that this remains so after compactification.
Given an algebraic hypersurface $H=f^{-1}(0)$ in $(\mathbb{C}^*)^n$, homological mirror symmetry relates the wrapped Fukaya category of $H$ to the derived category of singularities of the mirror Landau-Ginzburg model. We propose an enriched version of this picture which also features the wrapped Fukaya category of the complement $(\mathbb{C}^*)^n\setminus H$ and the Fukaya-Seidel category of the Landau-Ginzburg model $((\mathbb{C}^*)^n,f)$. We illustrate our speculations on simple examples, and sketch a proof of homological mirror symmetry for higher-dimensional pairs of pants.
We study the behavior of test ideals and F-singularities in families. In particular, we obtain generic (and non-generic) restriction theorems for test ideals and non-F-pure ideals. Additionally, we study the global behavior of certain canonical linear systems (induced by Frobenius) associated to adjoint line bundles, in families. As a consequence, we obtain some positivity results for pushforwards of some adjoint line bundles and for certain subsheaves of these.
We prove that the wrapped Fukaya category of a punctured sphere ($S^2$ with an arbitrary number of points removed) is equivalent to the triangulated category of singularities of a mirror Landau-Ginzburg model, proving one side of the homological mirror symmetry conjecture in this case. By investigating fractional gradings on these categories, we conclude that cyclic covers on the symplectic side are mirror to orbifold quotients of the Landau-Ginzburg model.
[GGSM2] showed that height functions give adjoint orbits of semisimple Lie algebras the structure of symplectic Lefschetz fibrations (superpotential of the LG model in the language of mirror symmetry). We describe how to extend the superpotential to compactifications. Our results explore the geometry of the adjoint orbit from 2 points of view: algebraic geometry and Lie theory.
In earlier joint work with our collaborators Akhtar, Coates, Corti, Heuberger, Kasprzyk, Prince and Tveiten, we gave a conjectural classification of a broad class of orbifold del Pezzo surfaces, using Mirror Symmetry. We proposed that del Pezzo surfaces $X$ with isolated cyclic quotient singularities such that $X$ admits a $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein toric degeneration correspond under Mirror Symmetry to maximally mutable Laurent polynomials $f$ in two variables, and that the quantum period of such a surface $X$, which is a generating function for Gromov-Witten invariants of $X$, coincides with th…
A simple elliptic singularity of type $E_N^{(1,1)}$ ($N=6,7,8$) can be described in terms of a marginal deformation of an invertible polynomial $W$. In the papers \cite{KS} and \cite{MR} the authors proved a mirror symmetry statement for some particular choices of $W$ and used it to prove quasi-modularity of Gromov-Witten invariants for certain elliptic orbifold $\mathbb{P}^1$s. However, the choice of the polynomial $W$ and its marginal deformation $ϕ_μ$ are not unique. In this paper, we investigate the global mirror symmetry phenomenon for the one-parameter family $W+σϕ_μ$. In each case the m…
This paper presents three results on F-singularities. First, we give a new proof of Eisenstein's restriction theorem for adjoint ideal sheaves, using the theory of F-singularities. Second, we show that a conjecture of Mustaţă and Srinivas implies a conjectural correspondence of F-purity and log canonicity. Finally, we prove this correspondence when the defining equations of the variety are very general.
A recent theorem of [GGSM1] showed that adjoint orbits of semisimple Lie algebras have the structure of symplectic Lefschetz fibrations. We investigate the behaviour of their fibrewise compactifications. Expressing adjoint orbits and fibres as affine varieties in their Lie algebra, we compactify them to projective varieties via homogenisation of the defining ideals. We find that their Hodge diamonds vary wildly according to the choice of homogenisation, and that extensions of the potential to the compactification must acquire degenerate singularities.
We study a certain family of determinantal quintic hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^{4}$ whose singularities are similar to the well-studied Barth-Nieto quintic. Smooth Calabi-Yau threefolds with Hodge numbers $(h^{1,1},h^{2,1})=(52,2)$ are obtained by taking crepant resolutions of the singularities. It turns out that these smooth Calabi-Yau threefolds are in a two dimensional mirror family to the complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds in $\mathbb{P}^{4}\times\mathbb{P}^{4}$ which have appeared in our previous study of Reye congruences in dimension three. We compactify the two dimensional fam…
We discuss a particular class of rational Gorenstein singularities, which we call symplectic. A normal variety V has symplectic singularities if its smooth part carries a closed symplectic 2-form whose pull-back in any resolution X --> V extends to a holomorphic 2-form on X . Our main result is the classification of isolated symplectic singularities with smooth projective tangent cone. They are in one-to-one correspondence with simple complex Lie algebras: to a Lie algebra g corresponds the singularity at 0 of the closure of the minimal (nonzero) nilpotent adjoint orbit in g .
In this article we prove a non-vanishing statement, as well as several properties of metrics with minimal singularities of adjoint bundles. Our arguments involve many ideas from Y.-T. Siu's analytic proof of the finite generation of the canonical ring. An important technical tool is the notion of relative critical exponent of two closed positive currents with respect to a measure.
We prove the Landau-Ginzburg mirror symmetry conjecture between invertible quasi-homogeneous polynomial singularities at all genera. That is, we show that the FJRW theory (LG A-model) of such a polynomial is equivalent to the Saito-Givental theory (LG B-model) of the mirror polynomial.
For any non-degenerate, quasi-homogeneous hypersurface singularity, we describe a family of moduli spaces, a virtual cycle, and a corresponding cohomological field theory associated to the singularity. This theory is analogous to Gromov-Witten theory and generalizes the theory of r-spin curves, which corresponds to the simple singularity A_{r-1}. We also resolve two outstanding conjectures of Witten. The first conjecture is that ADE-singularities are self-dual; and the second conjecture is that the total potential functions of ADE-singularities satisfy corresponding ADE-integrable hierarchies.…
This expository article is an introduction to the adjoint orbits of complex semisimple groups, primarily in the algebro-geometric and Lie-theoretic contexts, and with a pronounced emphasis on the properties of semisimple and nilpotent orbits. It is intended to build a foundation for more specialized settings in which adjoint orbits feature prominently (ex. hyperkähler geometry, Landau-Ginzburg models, and the theory of symplectic singularities). Also included are a few arguments and observations that, to the author's knowledge, have not yet appeared in the research literature.
We study the categories of singularities coming from Landau-Ginzburg models given by the invertible polynomials. Such categories appear on the B-side of the Berglund-Hübsch mirror symmetry. We provide an efficient method of computing morphism spaces in these categories and explicitly construct full strongly exceptional collections in the cases of small dimensions ($n\le 3$). Finally, we use this construction in order to prove Orlov's conjecture stating that such collections can be chosen to have block decompositions of size one more than the number of variables.
We verify the Landau-Ginzburg Mirror Symmetry Conjecture for Arnol'd's list of unimodal and bimodal quasi-homogeneous singularities with G the maximal diagonal symmetry group, and include a discussion of eight axioms which facilitate the computation of FJRW-rings.
Recently Abouzaid, Auroux, Efimov, Katzarkov and Orlov showed that the wrapped Fukaya Categories of punctured spheres and finite unbranched covers of punctured spheres are derived equivalent to the categories of singularities of a superpotential on certain crepant resolutions of toric 3 dimensional singularities. We generalize this result to other punctured Riemann surfaces and reformulate it in terms of certain noncommutative algebras coming from dimer models. In particular, given any consistent dimer model we can look at a subcategory of noncommutative matrix factorizations and show that thi…
This paper gives a construction of braid group actions on the derived category of coherent sheaves on a variety $X$. The motivation for this is Kontsevich's homological mirror conjecture, together with the occurrence of certain braid group actions in symplectic geometry. One of the main results is that when $\dim X \geq 2$, our braid group actions are always faithful. We describe conjectural mirror symmetries between smoothings and resolutions of singularities that lead us to find examples of braid group actions arising from crepant resolutions of various singularities. Relations with the McKa…
In this article, we study the Berglund--Hübsch transpose construction W^T for invertible quasihomogeneous potential W. We introduce the dual group G^T and establish the state space isomorphism between the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten A-model of W/G and the orbifold Milnor ring B-model of W^T/G^T. Furthermore, we prove a mirror symmetry theorem at the level of Frobenius algebra structure for G^max. Then, we interpret Arnol'd strange duality of exceptional singularities W as mirror symmetry between W/J and its strange dual W^SD.
The Landau-Ginzburg A-model, given by FJRW theory, defines a cohomological field theory, but in most examples is very difficult to compute, especially when the symmetry group is not maximal. We give some methods for finding the A-model structure. In many cases our methods completely determine the previously unknown A-model Frobenius manifold structure. In the case where these Frobenius manifolds are semisimple, this can be shown to determine the structure of the higher genus potential as well. We compute the Frobenius manifold structure for 27 of the previously unknown unimodal and bimodal sin…
The moduli dependence of $(2,2)$ superstring compactifications based on Calabi--Yau hypersurfaces in weighted projective space has so far only been investigated for Fermat-type polynomial constraints. These correspond to Landau-Ginzburg orbifolds with $c=9$ whose potential is a sum of $A$-type singularities. Here we consider the generalization to arbitrary quasi-homogeneous singularities at $c=9$. We use mirror symmetry to derive the dependence of the models on the complexified Kähler moduli and check the expansions of some topological correlation functions against explicit genus zero and genu…
We prove the Landau-Ginzburg Mirror Symmetry Conjecture at the level of (orbifolded) Frobenius algebras for a large class of invertible singularities, including arbitrary sums of loops and Fermats with arbitrary symmetry groups. Specifically, we show that for a quasi-homogeneous polynomial W and an admissible group G within the class, the Frobenius algebra arising in the FJRW theory of [W/G] is isomorphic (as a Frobenius algebra) to the orbifolded Milnor ring of [W^T/G^T], associated to the dual polynomial W^T and dual group G^T.
We classify filtered quantizations of conical symplectic singularities and use this to show that all filtered quantizations of symplectic quotient singularities are spherical Symplectic reflection algebras of Etingof and Ginzburg. We further apply our classification and a classification of filtered Poisson deformations obtained by Namikawa to establish a version of the Orbit method for semisimple Lie algebras. Namely, we produce a natural map from the set of adjoint orbits in a semisimple Lie algebra to the set of primitive ideals in the universal enveloping algebra. We show that the map is in…
The paper studies three classes of Frobenius manifolds: Quantum Cohomology (topological sigma-models), unfolding spaces of singularities (K. Saito's theory, Landau-Ginzburg models), and the recent Barannikov-Kontsevich construction starting with the Dolbeault complex of a Calabi-Yau manifold and conjecturally producing the B--side of the Mirror Conjecture in arbitrary dimension. Each known construction provides the relevant Frobenius manifold with an extra structure which can be thought of as a version of ``non-linear cohomology''. The comparison of thesestructures sheds some light on the gene…
