We study actions of linear algebraic groups on central simple algebras using algebro-geometric techniques. Suppose an algebraic group G acts on a central simple algebra A of degree n. We are interested in questions of the following type: (a) Do the G-fixed elements form a central simple subalgebra of A of degree n? (b) Does A have a G-invariant maximal subfield? (c) Does A have a splitting field with a G-action, extending the G-action on the center of A?
Somewhat surprisingly, we find that under mild assumptions on A and the actions, one can answer these questions by using techniques from birational invariant theory (i.e., the study of group actions on algebraic varieties, up to equivariant birational isomorphisms). In fact, group actions on central simple algebras turn out to be related to some of the central problems in birational invariant theory, such as the existence of sections, stabilizers in general position, affine models, etc. In this paper we explain these connections and explore them to give partial answers to questions (a)-(c).
Using depth of coherent sheaves on noetherian algebraic stacks, we construct non-Azumaya maximal orders in unramified central simple algebras over schemes of dimension at least $3$.
We give a geometric classification of complex $n$-dimensional $2$-step nilpotent (all, commutative and anticommutative) algebras. Namely, has been found the number of irreducible components and their dimensions. As a corollary, we have a geometric classification of complex $5$-dimensional nilpotent associative algebras. In particular, it has been proven that this variety has $14$ irreducible components and $9$ rigid algebras.
We use Galois descent to construct central extensions of twisted forms of split simple Lie algebras over rings. These types of algebras arise naturally in the construction of Extended Affine Lie Algebras. The construction also gives information about the structure of the group of automorphisms of such algebras.
A twisting system is one of the major tools to study graded algebras, however, it is often difficult to construct a (non-algebraic) twisting system if a graded algebra is given by generators and relations. In this paper, we show that a twisted algebra of a geometric algebra is determined by a certain automorphism of its point variety. As an application, we classify twisted algebras of $3$-dimensional geometric Artin-Schelter regular algebras up to graded algebra isomorphism.
We give algebraic and geometric classifications of complex $4$-dimensional nilpotent noncommutative Jordan algebras. Specifically, we find that, up to isomorphism, there are only $18$ non-isomorphic nontrivial nilpotent noncommutative Jordan algebras. The corresponding geometric variety is determined by the Zariski closure of $3$ rigid algebras and $2$ one-parametric families of algebras.
We present algebraic and geometric classifications of the $4$-dimensional complex nilpotent right alternative algebras. Specifically, we find that, up to isomorphism, there are only $9$ non-isomorphic nontrivial nilpotent right alternative algebras. The corresponding geometric variety has dimension $13$ and it is determined by the Zariski closure of $4$ rigid algebras and one one-parametric family of algebras.
The paper is devoted to give the complete algebraic classification of nilpotent binary Lie algebras of dimension $\leq 6$ over an arbitrary base field ${\mathbb{F}}$ of characteristic not $2$ and the complete geometric classification of nilpotent binary Lie algebras of dimension $6$ over $\mathbb C.$ As an application, we have the algebraic and geometric classification of nilpotent anticommutative $\mathfrak{CD}$-algebras of dimension $\leq 6.$
We develop a theory of universal central extensions of Hom-Lie algebras. Classical results of universal central extensions of Lie algebras cannot be completely extended to Hom-Lie algebras setting, because of the composition of two central extensions is not central. This fact leads to introduce the notion of universal $α$-central extension. Classical results as the existence of a universal central extension of a perfect Hom-Lie algebra remains true, but others as the central extensions of the middle term of a universal central extension is split only holds for $α$-central extensions. A homolog…
We give algebraic and geometric classifications of $6$-dimensional complex nilpotent anticommutative algebras. Specifically, we find that, up to isomorphism, there are $14$ one-parameter families of $6$-dimensional nilpotent anticommutative algebras, complemented by $130$ additional isomorphism classes. The corresponding geometric variety is irreducible and determined by the Zariski closure of a one-parameter family of algebras. In particular, there are no rigid $6$-dimensional complex nilpotent anticommutative algebras.
This paper is devoted to the complete algebraic and geometric classification of complex $4$-dimensional nilpotent left-symmetric algebras. The corresponding geometric variety has dimension $15$ and decomposes into $3$ irreducible components determined by the Zariski closures of two one-parameter families of algebras and a two-parameter family of algebras (see Theorem B). In particular, there are no rigid $4$-dimensional complex nilpotent left symmetric algebras.
For a cancellative semigroup S and a field F, it is proved that the semigroup algebra FS is centrally essential if and only if the group of fractions $G_S$ of the semigroup $S$ exists and the group algebra $FG_S$ of $G_S$ is centrally essential. The semigroup algebra of a cancellative semigroup is centrally essential if and only if it has the classical right ring of fractions which is a centrally essential ring. There exist non-commutative centrally essential semigroup algebras over fields of zero characteristic (this contrasts with the known fact that centrally essential group algebras over f…
We give the algebraic classification of alternative, left alternative, Jordan, bicommutative, left commutative, assosymmetric, Novikov and left symmetric central extensions of null-filiform associative algebras.
This paper is devoted to the complete algebraic and geometric classification of complex $5$-dimensional Zinbiel algebras. In particular, we proved that the variety of complex $5$-dimensional Zinbiel algebras has dimension $24$, it is defined by $16$ irreducible components and it has $11$ rigid algebras.
We give algebraic and geometric classifications of $4$-dimensional complex nilpotent terminal algebras. Specifically, we find that, up to isomorphism, there are $41$ one-parameter families of $4$-dimensional nilpotent terminal (non-Leibniz) algebras, $18$ two-parameter families of $4$-dimensional nilpotent terminal (non-Leibniz) algebras, $2$ three-parameter families of $4$-dimensional nilpotent terminal (non-Leibniz) algebras, complemented by $21$ additional isomorphism classes. The corresponding geometric variety has dimension 17 and decomposes into 3 irreducible components determined by the…
In this paper, we show the relation among the relative central extensions in an isoclinism family of a particular relative central extension of Hom-Lie algebras. We define the notion of isoclinism on the central relative extensions of a pair of Hom-Lie algebras. Then, we figure out the concept of isomorphism in the equivalence class of isoclinisms on the central relative extensions of a pair of Hom-Lie algebras.
We introduce the notion of Hom-co-represention and low-dimensional chain complex. We study universal central extensions of Hom-preLie algebras and generlize some classical results. As the same time, we introduce $α$-central extensions, universal $α$-central extensions and $α$-perfect Hom-preLie algebras. We construct universal ($α$)-central extensions of Hom-preLie algebras.
We give a geometric classification of complex $5$-dimensional nilpotent commutative $\mathfrak{CD}$-algebras. The corresponding geometric variety has dimension $24$ and decomposes into $10$ irreducible components determined by the Zariski closures of a two-parameter family of algebras, three one-parameter families of algebras, and $6$ rigid algebras.
In the category of Hom-Leibniz algebras we introduce the notion of representation as adequate coefficients to construct the chain complex to compute the Leibniz homology of Hom-Leibniz algebras. We study universal central extensions of Hom-Leibinz algebras and generalize some classical results, nevertheless it is necessary to introduce new notions of $α$-central extension, universal $α$-central extension and $α$-perfect Hom-Leibniz algebra. We prove that an $α$-perfect Hom-Lie algebra admits a universal $α$-central extension in the categories of Hom-Lie and Hom-Leibniz algebras and we obtain t…
Geometric algebra was initiated by W.K. Clifford over 130 years ago. It unifies all branches of physics, and has found rich applications in robotics, signal processing, ray tracing, virtual reality, computer vision, vector field processing, tracking, geographic information systems and neural computing. This tutorial explains the basics of geometric algebra, with concrete examples of the plane, of 3D space, of spacetime, and the popular conformal model. Geometric algebras are ideal to represent geometric transformations in the general framework of Clifford groups (also called versor or Lipschit…
The purpose of this article is to show a close relationship between the generalized central series of Leibniz algebras. Some analogues of the classical group-theoretical theorems of Schur and Baer for Leibniz algebras are proved.
We give a geometric classification of complex $4$-dimensional nilpotent $\mathfrak{CD}$-algebras. The corresponding geometric variety has dimension 18 and decomposes into $2$ irreducible components determined by the Zariski closures of a two-parameter family of algebras and a four-parameter family of algebras (see Theorem 2). In particular, there are no rigid $4$-dimensional complex nilpotent $\mathfrak{CD}$-algebras.
We study actions of linear algebraic groups on finite-dimensional central simple algebras. We describe the fixed algebra for a broad class of such actions.
In this article, we develop a further adaptation of the method of Skjelbred-Sund to construct central extensions of axial algebras. We use our method to prove that all axial central extensions (with respect to a maximal set of axes) of complex simple finite-dimensional Jordan algebras are split and that all non-split axial central extensions of dimension $n\leq 4$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic not $2$ are Jordan. Also, we give a classification of $2$-dimensional axial algebras and describe some important properties of these algebras.
In this paper, we give a natural braiding on the universal central extension of a crossed module of Lie algebras with a given braiding and construct the universal central extension of a braided crossed module of Lie algebras, showing that, when one of the constructions exists, both exist and coincide.

In this paper we study the universal central extension of a Lie--Rinehart algebra and we give a description of it. Then we study the lifting of automorphisms and derivations to central extensions. We also give a definition of a non-abelian tensor product in Lie--Rinehart algebras based on the construction of Ellis of non-abelian tensor product of Lie algebras. We relate this non-abelian tensor product to the universal central extension.
This paper is devoted to the complete algebraic and geometric classification of complex $4$-dimensional nilpotent weakly associative, complex $4$-dimensional symmetric Leibniz algebras, and complex $5$-dimensional nilpotent symmetric Leibniz algebras. In particular, we proved that the variety of complex $4$-dimensional symmetric Leibniz algebras has no Vergne--Grunewald--O'Halloran Property (there is an irreducible component formed by only nilpotent algebras), but on the other hand, it has Vergne Property (there are no rigid nilpotent algebras).
We study central simple algebras in various ways, focusing on the role of $p$-central subspaces. The first part of my thesis is dedicated to the study of Clifford algebras. The standard Clifford algebra of a given form is the generic associative algebra containing a $p$-central subspace whose exponentiation form is equal to the given form. There is an old question as for whether these algebras have representations of finite rank over the center, and jointly with Daniel Krashen and Max Lieblich we managed to provide a positive answer. Different generalizations of the structure of the Clifford a…
Basing ourselves on the categorical notions of central extensions and commutators in the framework of semi-abelian categories relative to a Birkhoff subcategory, we study central extensions of Leibniz algebras with respect to the Birkhoff subcategory of Lie algebras, called Lie-central extensions. We obtain a six-term exact homology sequence associated to a Lie-central extension. This sequence, together with the relative commutators, allows us to characterize several classes of Lie-central extensions, such as Lie-trivial, Lie-stem and Lie-stem cover, to introduce and characterize Lie-unicentra…

We define an algebra $A$ to be centrally stable if, for every epimorhism $φ$ from $A$ to another algebra $B$, the center $Z(B)$ of $B$ is equal to $φ(Z(A))$, the image of the center of $A$. After providing some examples and basic observations, we consider in somewhat greater detail central stability in tensor products of algebras, and finally establish our main result which states that a finite-dimensional unital algebra $A$ over a perfect field $F$ is centrally stable if and only if $A$ is isomorphic to a direct product of algebras of the form $C_i\otimes_{F_i}A_i$, where $F_i$ is a field ext…
We construct homology with trivial coefficients of Hom-Leibniz $n$-algebras. We introduce and characterize universal ($α$)-central extensions of Hom-Leibniz $n$-algebras. In particular, we show their interplay with the zeroth and first homology with trivial coefficients. When $n=2$ we recover the corresponding results on universal central extensions of Hom-Leibniz algebras. The notion of non-abelian tensor product of Hom-Leibniz $n$-algebras is introduced and we establish its relationship with the universal central extensions. We develop a generalization of the concept and properties of unicen…
In this paper we describe central extensions (up to isomorphism) of all complex null-filiform and filiform Zinbiel algebras. It is proven that every non-split central extension of an $n$-dimensional null-filiform Zinbiel algebra is isomorphic to an $(n+1)$-dimensional null-filiform Zinbiel algebra. Moreover, we obtain all pairwise non isomorphic quasi-filiform Zinbiel algebras.
For a Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ related to a quantum torus, we compute its automorphisms, derivations and universal central extension. This Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ is isomorphic to a subalgebra of the Lie algebra of derivations over the quantum torus, and moreover contains a subalgebra isomorphic to the centerless higher rank Virasoro algebra.
We describe all central extensions of all $3$-dimensional non-zero complex Zinbiel algebras. As a corollary, we have a full classification of $4$-dimensional non-trivial complex Zinbiel algebras and a full classification of $5$-dimensional non-trivial complex Zinbiel algebras with $2$-dimensional annihilator, which gives the principal step in the algebraic classification of $5$-dimensional Zinbiel algebras.
We define nonassociative cyclic extensions of degree m of both fields and central simple algebras over fields. If a suitable field contains a primitive mth (resp., qth) root of unity, we show that suitable nonassociative generalized cyclic division algebras yield nonassociative cyclic extensions of degree m (resp., qs). Some of Amitsur's classical results on non-commutative associative cyclic extensions of both fields and central simple algebras are obtained as special cases.
A quadratic Lie algebra is a Lie algebra endowed with a symmetric, invariant and non degenerate bilinear form; such a bilinear form is called an invariant metric. The aim of this work is to describe the general structure of those central extensions of quadratic Lie algebras which in turn have invariantmetrics. The structure is such that the central extensions can be described algebraically in terms of the original quadratic Lie algebra, and geometrically in terms of the direct sum decompositions that the invariant metrics involvedgive rise to.
In this paper we describe central extensions of some nilpotent Leibniz algebras. Namely, central extensions of the Leibniz algebra with maximal index of nilpotency are classified. Moreover, non-split central extensions of naturally graded filiform non-Lie Leibniz algebras are described up to isomorphism. It is shown that $k$-dimensional central extensions ($k\geq 5$) of these algebras are split.
We construct algebraic-geometric families of genus one (i.e. elliptic) current and affine Lie algebras of Krichever-Novikov type. These families deform the classical current, respectively affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras. The construction is induced by the geometric process of degenerating the elliptic curve to singular cubics. If the finite-dimensional Lie algebra defining the infinite dimensional current algebra is simple then, even if restricted to local families, the constructed families are non-equivalent to the trivial family. In particular, we show that the current algebra is geometrically…
Multi-point algebras of Krichever Novikov type for higher genus Riemann surfaces are generalisations of the Virasoro algebra and its related algebras. Complete existence and uniqueness results for local 2-cocycles defining almost-graded central extensions of the functions algebra, the vector field algebra, and the differential operator algebra (of degree \le 1) are shown. This is applied to the higher genus, multi-point affine algebras to obtain uniqueness for almost-graded central extensions of the current algebra of a simple finite-dimensional Lie algebra. An earlier conjecture of the author…
Geometric algebra is an optimal frame work for calculating with vectors. The geometric algebra of a space includes elements that represent all the its subspaces (lines, planes, volumes, ...). Conformal geometric algebra expands this approach to elementary representations of arbitrary points, point pairs, lines, circles, planes and spheres. Apart from including curved objects, conformal geometric algebra has an elegant unified quaternion like representation for all proper and improper Euclidean transformations, including reflections at spheres, general screw transformations and scaling. Expandi…
Three kinds of universal central extension are considered for a perfect Lie algebra. More precisely, one can consider such a Lie algebra as a Lie triple system, or a Leibniz algebra and construct appropriate central extensions. We show that Lie triple system universal central extension is isomorphic either to Lie or Leibniz algebra universal central extension considered as a Lie triple system in appropriate way.
This paper explains how, following the representation of 3D crystallographic space groups in Clifford's geometric algebra, it is further possible to similarly represent the 162 so called subperiodic groups of crystallography in Clifford's geometric algebra. A new compact geometric algebra group representation symbol is constructed, which allows to read off the complete set of geometric algebra generators. For clarity moreover the chosen generators are stated explicitly. The group symbols are based on the representation of point groups in geometric algebra by versors (Clifford monomials, Lipsch…
