Let $\fa$ denote an ideal of a commutative Noetherian ring $R$ and $M$ and $N$ two finitely generated $R$-modules with $\pd M< \infty$. It is shown that if $\fa$ is principal or $R$ is complete local and $\fa$ a prime ideal with $\dim R/\fa=1$, then the generalized local cohomology module $H^i_{\fa}(M,N)$ is $\fa$-cofinite for all $i \geq 0$. This provides an affirmative answer for the above ideal $\fa$ to a question proposed in [{\bf 13}].
Let $A$ be a commutative noetherian ring, let $\mathfrak a$ be an ideal of $A$ and let $n$ be a non-negative integer. In this paper, we study $\mathcal{S}_{n}(\mathfrak{a})$, a certain class of $A$-modules and we find some sufficient conditions so that a module belongs to $\mathcal{S}_{n}(\mathfrak{a})$. Moreover, we study the cofiniteness of local cohomology modules when $\dim A/\frak a\geq 3$.
Let $\mathfrak{a}$ be an ideal of a commutative noetherian ring $R$ and $M, N$ two finitely generated $R$-modules. By using a spectral sequence argument, it is shown that if either $\mathrm{dim}_RM\leq2$ and $\mathrm{H}^{i}_\mathfrak{a}(N)$ are $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite for all $i\geq0$, or $\mathrm{H}^{i}_\mathfrak{a}(N)$ is an $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite module of dimension $\leq1$ for each $i\geq1$, or $q(\mathfrak{a},R)\leq1$, then the $R$-modules $\mathrm{H}^{t}_\mathfrak{a}(M,N)$ are $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite for all $t\geq0$.
In this paper we shall investigate the concepts of cofiniteness of local cohomology modules and Abelian categories of cofinite modules over arbitrary Noetherian rings. Then we shall improve some of the results given in the literature.
Let $\mathfrak{a}$ be an ideal of a commutative noetherian ring $R$, $\mathcal{S}$ a Serre subcategory of $R$-modules satisfying the condition $C_\mathfrak{a}$ and $\mathcal{N}$ the subcategory of finitely generated $R$-modules. In this paper, we continue the study of $\mathcal{NS}$-$\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite modules with respect to the extension subcategory $\mathcal{NS}$, show that some classical results of $\mathfrak{a}$-cofiniteness hold for $\mathcal{NS}$-$\mathfrak{a}$-cofiniteness in the cases $\mathrm{dim}R=d$ or $\mathrm{dim}R/\mathfrak{a}=d-1$, where $d$ is a positive integer. We also s…
Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring, $\frak a$ be an ideal of $R$, $\cS$ be an arbitrary Serre subcategory of $R$-modules and let $\cN$ be the subcategory of finitely generated $R$-modules. In this paper, we study $\cN\cS$-$\frak a$-cofinite modules with respect to the extension subcategory $\cN\cS$ when $\dim R/\frak a\leq 2$. We also study $\frak a$-cofiniteness with respect to a new dimension.
Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring, $\frak a$ be an ideal of $R$, $\mathcal{S}$ be an arbitrary Serre subcategory of $R$-modules satisfying the condition $C_{\frak a}$ and let $\mathcal{N}$ be the subcategory of finitely generated $R$-modules. In this paper, we define and study $\mathcal{NS}$-$\frak a$-cofinite modules with respect to the extension subcategory $\mathcal{NS}$ as an generalization of the classical notion, namely $\frak a$-cofinite modules. For the lower dimensions, we show that the classical results of $\frak a$-cofiniteness hold for the new notion.
Let $\mathfrak{a}$ denote an ideal of a commutative Noetherian ring $R$. Let $M$ and $N$ be two $R$-modules. In this paper, we give partial answers on the extension of Hartshorne's conjecture about the cofiniteness of torsion and extension functors. For this purpose, we study the cofiniteness of the generalized local cohomology module $H^{i}_{\mathfrak{a}}(M, N)$ for a new class of modules, called $\mathfrak{a}$-weakly finite modules, in the local and non-local case. Furthermore, we derive some results on attached primes of top generalized local cohomology modules.
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring with non-zero identity, $\mathfrak{a}$ and ideal of $R$, $M$ a finite $R$--module, and $n$ a non-negative integer. In this paper, for an arbitrary $R$--module $X$ which is not necessarily finite, we study the finiteness dimension $f_\mathfrak{a}(M,X)$ and the $n$-th finiteness dimension $f^n_\mathfrak{a}(M,X)$ of $M$ and $X$ with respect to $\mathfrak{a}$. Assume that $\operatorname{Ext}^{i}_{R}(R/\mathfrak{a},X)$ is finite for all $i\leq f^2_\mathfrak{a}(M,X)$ (resp. $i< f^1_\mathfrak{a}(M,X)$). We show that $\operatorname{H}^{i}_{\mathfrak{a}}(M,X)$ i…
Let $\frak a$ be an ideal of a commutative noetherian ring $R$ with unity and $M$ an $R$-module supported at $\V(\fa)$. Let $n$ be the supermum of the integers $i$ for which $H^{\fa}_i(M)\neq 0$. We show that $M$ is $\fa$-cofinite if and only if the $R$-module $\Tor^R_i(R/\fa,M)$ is finitely generated for every $0\leq i\leq n$. This provides a hands-on and computable finitely-many-steps criterion to examine $\mathfrak{a}$-confiniteness. Our approach relies heavily on the theory of local homology which demonstrates the effectiveness and indispensability of this tool.
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring, $Φ$ a system of ideals of $R$ and $I\in Φ$. Let $M$ be an $R$-module (not necessary $I$-torsion) such that $\dim M\leq 1$, then the $R$-module $\Ext^i_{R}(R/I, M)$ is weakly Laskerian, for all $i\geq 0$, if and only if the $R$-module $\Ext^i_{R}(R/I, M)$ is weakly Laskerian, for $i=0, 1$. Let $t\in\Bbb{N}_0$ be an integer and $M$ an $R$-module such that $\Ext^i_R(R/I,M)$ is weakly Laskerian for all $i\leq t+1$. We prove that if the $R$-module $\lc^{i}_Φ(M)$ is ${\rm FD_{\leq 1}}$ for all $i<t$, then $\lc^{i}_Φ(M)$ is $Φ$-weakly cofinite for all $i<t$ a…
Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring, and $\mathcal{Z}$ a stable under specialization subset of $\Spec(R)$. We introduce a notion of $\mathcal{Z}$-cofiniteness and study its main properties. In the case $\dim(\mathcal{Z})\leq 1$, or $\dim(R)\leq 2$, or $R$ is semilocal with $\cd(\mathcal{Z},R) \leq 1$, we show that the category of $\mathcal{Z}$-cofinite $R$-modules is abelian. Also, in each of these cases, we prove that the local cohomology module $H^{i}_{\mathcal{Z}}(X)$ is $\mathcal{Z}$-cofinite for every homologically left-bounded $R$-complex $X$ whose homology modules are finitely gene…
In this paper we prove the following generalization of a result of Hartshorne: Let $(S,\n)$ be a regular local ring of dimension $4$. Assume that $x,y,u,v$ is a regular system of parameters for $S$ and $a:=xu+yv$. Then for each finitely generated $S$-module $N$ with $\Supp N=V(aS)$ the socle of $H^2_{(u,v)S}(N)$ is infinite dimensional. Also, using this result, for any commutative Noetherian complete local ring $(R,\m)$, we characterize the class of all ideals $I$ of $R$ with the property that, for every finitely generated $R$-module $M$, the local cohomology modules $H^i_I(M)$ are $I$-cofinit…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring, $\fa$ be an ideal of $R$ and $M$ be an $R$-module. The main purpose of this paper is to answer the Hartshorn's questions in the class of weakly Laskerian modules. It is shown that if $s\geq 1$ is a positive integer such that $\Ext^j_R(R/\fa, M)$ is weakly Laskerian for all $j\leq s$ and the $R$-module $H^i_\fa(M)$ is $FD_{\leq 1}$ for all $i < s$, then the $R$-module $H^i_\fa(M)$ is $\fa$-weakly cofinite for all $i <s$. In addition, we show that the category of all $\fa$-weakly cofinite $FD_{\leq 1}$ $R$-modules is an Abelian subcategory of the categor…
Let $\mathfrak{a}$ be an ideal of a commutative noetherian (not necessarily local) ring $R$. In the case $\cd(\mathfrak{a},R)\leq 1$, we show that the subcategory of $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite $R$-modules is abelian. Using this and the technique of way-out functors, we show that if $\cd(\mathfrak{a},R)\leq 1$, or $\dim(R/\mathfrak{a}) \leq 1$, or $\dim(R) \leq 2$, then the local cohomology module $H^{i}_{\mathfrak{a}}(X)$ is $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite for every $R$-complex $X$ with finitely generated homology modules and every $i \in \mathbb{Z}$. We further answer Question 1.3 in the three aforement…
Let $A$ be a commutative noetherian ring, $\frak a$ be an ideal of $A$, $m,n$ be non-negative integers and let $M$ be an $A$-module such that $\Ext^i_A(A/\frak a,M)$ is finitely generated for all $i\leq m+n$. We define a class $\cS_n(\frak a)$ of modules and we assume that $H_{\frak a}^s(M)\in\cS_{n}(\frak a)$ for all $s\leq m$. We show that $H_{\frak a}^s(M)$ is $\frak a$-cofinite for all $s\leq m$ if either $n=1$ or $n\geq 2$ and $\Ext_A^{i}(A/\frak a,H_{\frak a}^{t+s-i}(M))$ is finitely generated for all $1\leq t\leq n-1$, $i\leq t-1$ and $s\leq m$. If $A$ is a ring of dimension $d$ and $M\…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring and $M$ be a finitely generated $R$-module. Considering the new concept of linkage of ideals over a module, we study associated prime ideals, cofiniteness and Artinianness of local cohomology modules of $M$ with respect to some linked ideals over it.
Cofiniteness of the generalized local cohomology modules Hai(M, N) of two R-modules M and N with respect to an ideal a is studied for some i,s with a specified property. Furthermore, Artinianness of Hbj 0(Hai(M, N)) is investigated by using the above result, in certain graded situations, where b 0 is an ideal of R 0 such that b 0 + a 0 is an m 0-primary ideal.
We prove two results about the derived functor of $a$-adic completion: (1) Let $K$ be a commutative noetherian ring, let $A$ be a flat noetherian $K$-algebra which is $a$-adically complete with respect to some ideal $a\subseteq A$, such that $A/a$ is essentially of finite type over $K$, and let $M,N$ be finitely generated $A$-modules. Then adic reduction to the diagonal holds: $A\otimes^{L}_{ A\hat{\otimes}_{K} A } ( M\hat{\otimes}^{L}_{K} N ) \cong M \otimes^{L}_A N$. A similar result is given in the case where $M,N$ are not necessarily finitely generated. (2) Let $A$ be a commutative ring, l…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring with non-zero identity, $\mathfrak{a}$ an ideal of $R$, $M$ a finitely generated $R$--module, and $X$ an arbitrary $R$--module. In this paper, for non-negative integers $s, t$ and a finitely generated $R$--module $N$, we study the membership of $\operatorname{Ext}_{R}^{s}(N, \operatorname{H}^{t}_{\mathfrak{a}}(M, X))$ in Serre subcategories of the category of $R$--modules and present some upper bounds for the injective dimension and the Bass numbers of $\operatorname{H}^{t}_{\mathfrak{a}}(M, X)$. We also give some results on cofiniteness and minimaxness…
Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring and let $\frak a$ be an ideal of $R$. In this paper, we study a certain condition, namely $C_{\frak a}$, introduced by Aghapournahr and Melkersson, on the extension of two subcategories of $R$-modules. We extend and generalize some of the main results of Yoshizawa [Y1,Y2]. As an example of extension of subcategories, we study the weakly Laskerian modules and we find some conditions under which the local cohomology modules of a weakly Laskerian module lie in an arbitrary Serre subcategory. Eventually, we investigate the cofiniteness of the local cohomolo…
The purpose of the present paper is to continue the study of modules cofinite and weakly cofinite with respect to an ideal $\frak a$ of a Noetherian ring $R$. It is shown that an $R$-module $M$ is cofinite with respect to $\frak a$, if and only if, $\Ext^i_R(R/\frak a,M)$ is finitely generated for all $i\leq {\rm cd}(\frak a,M)+1$, whenever $\dim R/\frak a=1$. In addition, we show that if $M$ is finitely generated and $H^i_{\frak a}(M)$ are weakly Laskerian for all $i\leq t-1$, then $H^i_{\frak a}(M)$ are ${\frak a}$-cofinite for all $i\leq t-1$ and for any minimax submodule $K$ of $H^{t}_{\fr…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring and $I$ be an ideal of $R$. In this article we answer affirmatively a question raised by the present author in \cite{B2}. Also, as an immediate consequence of this result it is shown that the category of all $I$-cofinite $R$-modules $\mathscr{C}(R, I)_{cof}$ is an Abelian subcategory of the category of all $R$-modules, whenever $q(I,R)\leq 1$. These assertions answer affirmatively a question raised by R. Hartshorne in [{\it Affine duality and cofiniteness}, Invent. Math. {\bf9}(1970), 145-164], in some special cases.
Let $\mathfrak{a}$ be an ideal of a noetherian (not necessarily local) ring $R$ and $M$ an $R$-module with $\mathrm{Supp}_RM\subseteq\mathrm{V}(\mathfrak{a})$. We show that if $\mathrm{dim}_RM\leq2$, then $M$ is $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite if and only if $\mathrm{Ext}^i_R(R/\mathfrak{a},M)$ are finitely generated for all $i\leq 2$, which generalizes one of the main results in [Algebr. Represent. Theory 18 (2015) 369--379]. Some new results concerning cofiniteness of local cohomology modules $\mathrm{H}^i_\mathfrak{a}(M)$ for any finitely generated $R$-module $M$ are obtained.
Yoshizawa investigated when local cohomology modules have an annihilator that does not depend on the choice of the defining ideal. In this paper we refine his results and investigate the relationship between annihilators of local cohomology modules and restricted flat dimensions.
Let $\fa$ be an ideal of a $d$-dimensional commutative Noetherian ring $R$. In this paper we give some information on some last non-zero local cohomology modules known as top local cohomology modules in particular, $H^{d-1}_{\fa}(R)$.
We provide new results on the vanishing of local cohomology modules supported at ideals of minors of matrices over arbitrary commutative Noetherian rings. In the process, we compute the local cohomology of rings of polynomials with integer coefficients---supported at generic determinantal ideals---and also obtain results on F-modules and D-modules that are likely to be of independent interest.
