Let $\mathfrak{a}$ be an ideal of Noetherian ring $R$ and let $M$ be an $R$-module such that $\mathrm{Ext}^i_R(R/\mathfrak{a},M)$ is finite $R$-module for every $i$. If $s$ is the first integer such that the local cohomology module $\mathrm{H}^s_\mathfrak{a}(M)$ is non $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite, then we show that $\mathrm{Hom}_{R}(R/\mathfrak{a}, \mathrm{H}^s_\mathfrak{a}(M))$ is finite. Specially, the set of associated primes of $\mathrm{H}^s_\mathfrak{a}(M)$ is finite.
Next assume $(R,\mathfrak{m})$ is a local Noetherian ring and $M$ is a finitely generated module. We study the last integer $n$ such that the local cohomology module $\mathrm{H}^n_\mathfrak{a}(M)$ is not $\mathfrak{m}$-cofinite and show that $n$ just depends on the support of $M$.
In this paper, some results on vanishing and non-vanishing of generalized local cohomology modules are presented and some relations between those modules and, Ext and ordinary local cohomology modules are studied. Also, several cofiniteness propositions for generalized local cohomology modules are established which, among other things, provide an alternative answer to a question in [Y2].
Let $A$ be a commutative noetherian ring, let $\mathfrak a$ be an ideal of $A$ and let $n$ be a non-negative integer. In this paper, we study $\mathcal{S}_{n}(\mathfrak{a})$, a certain class of $A$-modules and we find some sufficient conditions so that a module belongs to $\mathcal{S}_{n}(\mathfrak{a})$. Moreover, we study the cofiniteness of local cohomology modules when $\dim A/\frak a\geq 3$.
In this paper we shall investigate the concepts of cofiniteness of local cohomology modules and Abelian categories of cofinite modules over arbitrary Noetherian rings. Then we shall improve some of the results given in the literature.
Let $\fa$ denote an ideal of a commutative Noetherian ring $R$ and $M$ and $N$ two finitely generated $R$-modules with $\pd M< \infty$. It is shown that if $\fa$ is principal or $R$ is complete local and $\fa$ a prime ideal with $\dim R/\fa=1$, then the generalized local cohomology module $H^i_{\fa}(M,N)$ is $\fa$-cofinite for all $i \geq 0$. This provides an affirmative answer for the above ideal $\fa$ to a question proposed in [{\bf 13}].
Let $\mathfrak{a}$ be an ideal of a commutative noetherian ring $R$ and $M, N$ two finitely generated $R$-modules. By using a spectral sequence argument, it is shown that if either $\mathrm{dim}_RM\leq2$ and $\mathrm{H}^{i}_\mathfrak{a}(N)$ are $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite for all $i\geq0$, or $\mathrm{H}^{i}_\mathfrak{a}(N)$ is an $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite module of dimension $\leq1$ for each $i\geq1$, or $q(\mathfrak{a},R)\leq1$, then the $R$-modules $\mathrm{H}^{t}_\mathfrak{a}(M,N)$ are $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite for all $t\geq0$.
Let $R$ be a noetherian ring, $\fa$ an ideal of $R$ such that $\dim R/\fa=1$ and $M$ a finite $R$--module. We will study cofiniteness and some other properties of the local cohomology modules $\lc^{i}_{\fa}(M)$. For an arbitrary ideal $\fa$ and an $R$--module $M$ (not necessarily finite), we will characterize $\fa$--cofinite artinian local cohomology modules. Certain sets of coassociated primes of top local cohomology modules over local rings are characterized.
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring, $I$ an ideal of $R$ and $M$, $N$ two finitely generated $R$-modules. The aim of this paper is to investigate the $I$-cofiniteness of generalized local cohomology modules $\displaystyle H^j_I(M,N)=\dlim\Ext^j_R(M/I^nM,N)$ of $M$ and $N$ with respect to $I$. We first prove that if $I$ is a principal ideal then $H^j_I(M,N)$ is $I$-cofinite for all $M, N$ and all $j$. Secondly, let $t$ be a non-negative integer such that $\dim\Supp(H^j_I(M,N))\le 1 \text{for all} j<t.$ Then $H^j_I(M,N)$ is $I$-cofinite for all $j<t$ and $\Hom(R/I,H^t_I(M,N))$ is finitely g…
Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring, $I,J$ be two ideals of $R$, $M$ be an $R$-module, and $\mathcal{S}$ be a Serre class of $R$-modules. A positive answer to the Huneke$^,$s conjecture is given for a noetherian ring $R$ and minimax $R$-module $M$ of krull dimension less than 3, with respect to $\mathcal{S}$. There are some results on cofiniteness and artinianness of local cohomology modules with respect to a pair of ideals. For a ZD-module $M$ of finite krull dimension and an integer $n\in\mathbb{N}$, if $\lc^{i}_{I,J}(M)\in\mathcal{S}$ for all $i>n$, then $\lc^{i}_{I,J}(M)/\fa^{j}\lc^{i…
Let R be a regular local ring of dimension d, I an ideal of R, and M a finitely generated R-module of dimension n. We prove that the set of associated primes of Ext^i_R(R/I,H^j_I(M)) is finite for all i and j in the following cases: (1) dim M\le 3; (2) dim R\le 4; (3) dim M/IM \le 2 and M satisfies Serre's condition S_{n-3}; (4) dim M/IM\le 3, R is unramified, and M is faithful and satisfies S_{n-3}. We also prove that if dim R/I\ge 2 and the punctured spectrum of R/I is disconnected then H^{d-1}_I(R) is not I-cofinite. This generalizes a result due to Huneke and Koh.
Let $R$ denote a commutative Noetherian (not necessarily local) ring, $M$ an arbitrary $R$-module and $I$ an ideal of $R$ of dimension one. It is shown that the $R$-module $\Ext^i_R(R/I,M)$ is finitely generated (resp. weakly Laskerian) for all $i\leq {\rm cd}(I,M)+1$ if and only if the local cohomology module $H^i_I(M)$ is $I$-cofinite (resp. $I$-weakly cofinite) for all $i$. Also, we show that when $I$ is an arbitrary ideal and $M$ is finitely generated module such that the $R$-module $H^i_I(M)$ is weakly Laskerian for all $i\leq t-1$, then $H^i_I(M)$ is $I$-cofinite for all $i\leq t-1$ and …
Let $\mathfrak{a}$ denote an ideal of a commutative Noetherian ring $R$. Let $M$ and $N$ be two $R$-modules. In this paper, we give partial answers on the extension of Hartshorne's conjecture about the cofiniteness of torsion and extension functors. For this purpose, we study the cofiniteness of the generalized local cohomology module $H^{i}_{\mathfrak{a}}(M, N)$ for a new class of modules, called $\mathfrak{a}$-weakly finite modules, in the local and non-local case. Furthermore, we derive some results on attached primes of top generalized local cohomology modules.
Let $\mathfrak{a}$ be an ideal of a commutative noetherian ring $R$, $\mathcal{S}$ a Serre subcategory of $R$-modules satisfying the condition $C_\mathfrak{a}$ and $\mathcal{N}$ the subcategory of finitely generated $R$-modules. In this paper, we continue the study of $\mathcal{NS}$-$\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite modules with respect to the extension subcategory $\mathcal{NS}$, show that some classical results of $\mathfrak{a}$-cofiniteness hold for $\mathcal{NS}$-$\mathfrak{a}$-cofiniteness in the cases $\mathrm{dim}R=d$ or $\mathrm{dim}R/\mathfrak{a}=d-1$, where $d$ is a positive integer. We also s…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring with non-zero identity, $\mathfrak{a}$ and ideal of $R$, $M$ a finite $R$--module, and $n$ a non-negative integer. In this paper, for an arbitrary $R$--module $X$ which is not necessarily finite, we study the finiteness dimension $f_\mathfrak{a}(M,X)$ and the $n$-th finiteness dimension $f^n_\mathfrak{a}(M,X)$ of $M$ and $X$ with respect to $\mathfrak{a}$. Assume that $\operatorname{Ext}^{i}_{R}(R/\mathfrak{a},X)$ is finite for all $i\leq f^2_\mathfrak{a}(M,X)$ (resp. $i< f^1_\mathfrak{a}(M,X)$). We show that $\operatorname{H}^{i}_{\mathfrak{a}}(M,X)$ i…
Let $I$ be an ideal of a Noetherian ring R and M be a finitely generated R-module. We introduce the class of extension modules of finitely generated modules by the class of all modules $T$ with $\dim T\leq n$ and we show it by ${\rm FD_{\leq n}}$ where $n\geq -1$ is an integer. We prove that for any ${\rm FD_{\leq 0}}$(or minimax) submodule N of $H^t_I(M)$ the R-modules ${\rm Hom}_R(R/I,H^{t}_I(M)/N) {\rm and} {\rm Ext}^1_R(R/I,H^{t}_I(M)/N)$ are finitely generated, whenever the modules $H^0_I(M)$, $H^1_I(M)$, ..., $H^{t-1}_I(M)$ are ${\rm FD_{\leq 1}}$ (or weakly Laskerian). As a consequence,…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring, $Φ$ a system of ideals of $R$ and $I\in Φ$. Let $M$ be an $R$-module (not necessary $I$-torsion) such that $\dim M\leq 1$, then the $R$-module $\Ext^i_{R}(R/I, M)$ is weakly Laskerian, for all $i\geq 0$, if and only if the $R$-module $\Ext^i_{R}(R/I, M)$ is weakly Laskerian, for $i=0, 1$. Let $t\in\Bbb{N}_0$ be an integer and $M$ an $R$-module such that $\Ext^i_R(R/I,M)$ is weakly Laskerian for all $i\leq t+1$. We prove that if the $R$-module $\lc^{i}_Φ(M)$ is ${\rm FD_{\leq 1}}$ for all $i<t$, then $\lc^{i}_Φ(M)$ is $Φ$-weakly cofinite for all $i<t$ a…
Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring, and $\mathcal{Z}$ a stable under specialization subset of $\Spec(R)$. We introduce a notion of $\mathcal{Z}$-cofiniteness and study its main properties. In the case $\dim(\mathcal{Z})\leq 1$, or $\dim(R)\leq 2$, or $R$ is semilocal with $\cd(\mathcal{Z},R) \leq 1$, we show that the category of $\mathcal{Z}$-cofinite $R$-modules is abelian. Also, in each of these cases, we prove that the local cohomology module $H^{i}_{\mathcal{Z}}(X)$ is $\mathcal{Z}$-cofinite for every homologically left-bounded $R$-complex $X$ whose homology modules are finitely gene…
In this paper we prove the following generalization of a result of Hartshorne: Let $(S,\n)$ be a regular local ring of dimension $4$. Assume that $x,y,u,v$ is a regular system of parameters for $S$ and $a:=xu+yv$. Then for each finitely generated $S$-module $N$ with $\Supp N=V(aS)$ the socle of $H^2_{(u,v)S}(N)$ is infinite dimensional. Also, using this result, for any commutative Noetherian complete local ring $(R,\m)$, we characterize the class of all ideals $I$ of $R$ with the property that, for every finitely generated $R$-module $M$, the local cohomology modules $H^i_I(M)$ are $I$-cofinit…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring and $M$ be a finitely generated $R$-module. Considering the new concept of linkage of ideals over a module, we study associated prime ideals, cofiniteness and Artinianness of local cohomology modules of $M$ with respect to some linked ideals over it.
Let $\mathfrak{a}$ be an ideal of a commutative noetherian (not necessarily local) ring $R$. In the case $\cd(\mathfrak{a},R)\leq 1$, we show that the subcategory of $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite $R$-modules is abelian. Using this and the technique of way-out functors, we show that if $\cd(\mathfrak{a},R)\leq 1$, or $\dim(R/\mathfrak{a}) \leq 1$, or $\dim(R) \leq 2$, then the local cohomology module $H^{i}_{\mathfrak{a}}(X)$ is $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite for every $R$-complex $X$ with finitely generated homology modules and every $i \in \mathbb{Z}$. We further answer Question 1.3 in the three aforement…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring with non-zero identity, $\fa$ an ideal of $R$, and $X$ an $R$--module. In this paper, for fixed integers $s, t$ and a finite $\fa$--torsion $R$--module $N$, we first study the membership of $\Ext^{s+t}_{R}(N, X)$ and $\Ext^{s}_{R}(N, H^{t}_{\fa}(X))$ in Serre subcategories of the category of $R$--modules. Then we present some conditions which ensure the existence of an isomorphism between them. Finally, we introduce the concept of Serre cofiniteness as a generalization of cofiniteness and study this property for certain local cohomology modules.
Cofiniteness of the generalized local cohomology modules Hai(M, N) of two R-modules M and N with respect to an ideal a is studied for some i,s with a specified property. Furthermore, Artinianness of Hbj 0(Hai(M, N)) is investigated by using the above result, in certain graded situations, where b 0 is an ideal of R 0 such that b 0 + a 0 is an m 0-primary ideal.
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring, $\fa$ an ideal of $R$, and let $M$ be a finitely generated $R$-module. For a non-negative integer $t$, we prove that $H_{\fa}^t(M)$ is $\fa$-cofinite whenever $H_{\fa}^t(M)$ is Artinian and $H_{\fa}^i(M)$ is $\fa$-cofinite for all $i<t$. This result, in particular, characterizes the $\fa$-cofiniteness property of local cohomology modules of certain regular local rings. Also, we show that for a local ring $(R,\fm)$, $f-\depth(\fa,M)$ is the least integer $i$ such that $H_{\fa}^i(M)\ncong H_{\fm}^i(M)$. This result in conjunction with the first one, yiel…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring with non-zero identity, $\mathfrak{a}$ an ideal of $R$, $M$ a finitely generated $R$--module, and $X$ an arbitrary $R$--module. In this paper, for non-negative integers $s, t$ and a finitely generated $R$--module $N$, we study the membership of $\operatorname{Ext}_{R}^{s}(N, \operatorname{H}^{t}_{\mathfrak{a}}(M, X))$ in Serre subcategories of the category of $R$--modules and present some upper bounds for the injective dimension and the Bass numbers of $\operatorname{H}^{t}_{\mathfrak{a}}(M, X)$. We also give some results on cofiniteness and minimaxness…
Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring and let $\frak a$ be an ideal of $R$. In this paper, we study a certain condition, namely $C_{\frak a}$, introduced by Aghapournahr and Melkersson, on the extension of two subcategories of $R$-modules. We extend and generalize some of the main results of Yoshizawa [Y1,Y2]. As an example of extension of subcategories, we study the weakly Laskerian modules and we find some conditions under which the local cohomology modules of a weakly Laskerian module lie in an arbitrary Serre subcategory. Eventually, we investigate the cofiniteness of the local cohomolo…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring with non-zero identity, $\fa$ an ideal of $R$, $M$ a finite $R$--module and $X$ an arbitrary $R$--module. Here, we show that, in the Serre subcategories of the category of $R$--modules, how the generalized local cohomology modules, the ordinary local cohomology modules and the extension modules behave similarly at the initial points. We conclude some Artinianness and cofiniteness results for $\lc^{n}_{\fa}(M, X)$, and some finiteness results for $\Supp_R(\lc^{n}_{\fa}(M, X))$ and $\Ass_R(\lc^{n}_{\fa}(M, X))$.
Let $R$ denote a commutative Noetherian ring. Brodmann et al. defined and studied the concept of the local-global principle for annihilation of local cohomology modules at level $r\in\mathbb{N}$ for the ideals $\frak a$ and $\frak b$ of $R$. It was shown that this principle holds at levels 1,2, over $R$ and at all levels whenever $\dim R\leq 4$. The goal of this paper is to show that, if the set $\Ass_R(H_{\fa}^{f_{\fa}^{\fb}(M)}(M))$ is finite or $f_{\fa}(M)\neq c_{\fa}^{\fb}(M)$, then the local-global principle holds at all levels $r\in\mathbb{N}_0$, for all ideals $\fa, \fb$ of $R$ and each…
In this paper we consider the local cohomology of monomial ideals with respect to monomial prime ideals and show that all these local cohomology modules are tame.
Let $J$ be an ideal of a noetherian local ring $R$. We show new results on the set of attached primes $\Att_R(\LCMo ^l_J(R))$ of a local cohomology module $\LCMo ^l_J(R)$. To prove our results we establish and use new relations between the set $\Att_R(\LCMo ^l_J(R))$ of attached primes of a local cohomology module and the set $\Ass_R(D(\LCMo ^l_J(R)))$ of associated primes of the Matlis dual of the same local cohomology module.
This paper at first concerns some criteria on Artinianness and vanishing of formal local cohomology modules. Then we consider the cosupport and the set of coassociated primes of these modules more precisely.
This is an expanded version of a lecture on finiteness properties of local cohomology modules given at the 48th Algebra Symposium held at Nagoya University in August 2003.
After motivating the question we prove various results about the set of associated primes of Matlis duals of top local cohomology modules. In some cases we can calculate this set, for the general situation we present a conjecture. An easy application of this theory is the well-known fact that Krull dimension can be expressed by the vanishing of local cohomology modules.
Local cohomology modules, even over a Noetherian ring $R$, are typically unwieldly. As such, it is of interest whether or not they have finitely many associated primes. We prove the affirmative in the case where $R$ is a Stanley-Reisner ring over a field, whose associated simplicial complex is a $T$-space.
We construct normal hypersurfaces whose local cohomology modules have infinitely many associated primes. These include unique factorization domains of characteristic zero with rational singularities, as well as F-regular unique factorization domains of positive characteristic. As a consequence, we answer a question on the associated primes of Frobenius powers of ideals, which arose from the localization problem in tight closure theory.
Lyubeznik's conjecture, (\cite{Ly1}, Remark 3.7) asserts the finiteness of the set ssociated primes of local cohomology modules for regular rings. But, in the case of ramified regular local ring, it is open. Recently, in Theorem 1.2 of \cite{Nu1}, it is proved that in any Noetherian regular local ring $S$ and for a fixed ideal $J\subset S$, associated primes of local cohomology $H^i_J(S)$ for $i\geq 0$ is finite, if it does not contain $p$. In this paper, we use this result to construct examples of local cohomology modules for ramified regular local ring so that they have finitely many associa…
Let $\mathfrak{a}$ be an ideal of a noetherian (not necessarily local) ring $R$ and $M$ an $R$-module with $\mathrm{Supp}_RM\subseteq\mathrm{V}(\mathfrak{a})$. We show that if $\mathrm{dim}_RM\leq2$, then $M$ is $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite if and only if $\mathrm{Ext}^i_R(R/\mathfrak{a},M)$ are finitely generated for all $i\leq 2$, which generalizes one of the main results in [Algebr. Represent. Theory 18 (2015) 369--379]. Some new results concerning cofiniteness of local cohomology modules $\mathrm{H}^i_\mathfrak{a}(M)$ for any finitely generated $R$-module $M$ are obtained.
Let $\mathfrak{a}$ be an ideal of a commutative Noetherian ring $R$ and $M$ a finitely generated $R$-module. In this paper we proved that if $\operatorname{Supp}\mathfrak{F}_\mathfrak{a}^i(M)$ is finite for all $i<t$, then so is $\operatorname{Ass}(\mathfrak{F}_{\mathfrak{a}}^t(M))$.
Let (R,m) be a complete Noetherian local ring and let M be a finite R--module of positive Krull dimension n. It is shown that any subset T of Assh_R(M) can be expressed as the set of attached primes of the top local cohomology module H^n_a(M) for some ideal a of R. Moreover if a is an ideal of R such that the set of attached primes of H^n_a(M) is a non--empty proper subset of Assh_R(M), then H^n_a(M)=H^n_b(M) for some ideal b of R with dim_R (R/b)=1.
Let $I$ and $J$ be two ideals of a commutative Noetherian ring $R$ and $M$ be an $R$-module of dimension $d$. If $R$ is a complete local ring and $M$ is finite, then attached prime ideals of $H^{d-1}_{I,J}(M)$ are computed by means of the concept of co-localization. Also, we illustrate the attached prime ideals of $H^{t}_{I,J}(M)$ on a non-local ring $R$, for $t= \dim M$ and $t= cd(I,J,M)$.
Let $R$ be an excellent regular ring of dimension $d$ containing a field $K$ of characteristic zero. Let $I$ be an ideal in $R$. We show that $Ass \ H^{d-1}_I(R)$ is a finite set. As an application we show that if $I$ is an ideal of height $g$ with $height \ Q = g$ for all minimal primes of $I$ then for all but finitely many primes $P \supseteq I$ with $height \ P \geq g +2$, the topological space $Spec^\circ(R_P/IR_P)$ is connected.
Let $R=k[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ be a ring of polynomials over a field $k$ of characteristic $p>0$. There is an algorithm due to Lyubeznik for deciding the vanishing of local cohomology modules $H^i_I(R)$ where $I\subset R$ is an ideal. This algorithm has not been implemented because its complexity grows very rapidly with the growth of $p$ which makes it impractical. In this paper we produce a modification of this algorithm that consumes a modest amount of memory.
We find sufficient conditions which imply equality of the finitistic test ideal and test ideal in rings of prime characteristic. Utilizing recent progress from the prime characteristic minimal model program we equate the notions of $F$-regular and strongly $F$-regular for 4-dimensional rings essentially of finite type over a field of prime characteristic $p>5$.
Let $\fa$ be an ideal of a commutative Noetherian ring $R$ and $M$ a finitely generated $R$-module. Let $t$ be a natural integer. It is shown that there is a finite subset $X$ of $\Spec R$, such that $\Ass_R(H_{\fa}^t(M))$ is contained in $X$ union with the union of the sets $\Ass_R(\Ext_R^j(R/\fa,H_{\fa}^i(M)))$, where $0\leq i<t$ and $0\leq j\leq t^2+1$. As an immediate consequence, we deduce that the first non $\fa$-cofinite local cohomology module of $M$ with respect to $\fa$ has only finitely many associated prime ideals.
For a finitely generated module $M$, over a commutative Noetherian local ring $(R, \mathfrak{m})$, it is shown that there exist only a finite number of non--isomorphic top local cohomology modules $\mathrm{H}_{\mathfrak{a}}^{\mathrm{dim} (M)}(M)$, for all ideals $\mathfrak{a}$ of $R$. We present a reduced secondary representation for the top local cohomology modules with respect to an ideal. It is also shown that for a given integer $r\geq 0$, if $\mathrm{H}_{\mathfrak{a}}^{r}(R/\mathfrak {p})$ is zero for all $\mathfrak{p}$ in $\mathrm{Supp}(M)$, then $\mathrm{H}_{\mathfrak{a}}^{i}(M)= 0$ for…
We construct an example where a local cohomology module of a hypersurface has p-torsion elements for every prime integer p, and consequently has infinitely many associated prime ideals. We also answer a related question of Hochster.
For a Noetherian regular ring $S$ and for a fixed ideal $J\subset S$, assume that the associated primes of local cohomology module $H^i_J(S)$ does not contain $p$ for some $i\geq 0$, and we call this as a property $\textit{\textbf{P}}^{i,p}_{J,S}$ or $\textit{\textbf{P}}$ for brevity. Recently, in Theorem 1.2 of \cite{Nu1}, it is proved that in a Noetherian regular local ring $S$ and for a fixed ideal $J\subset S$, associated primes of local cohomology module $H^i_J(S)$ for $i\geq 0$ is finite, if it does not contain $p$. In this paper, we study how the property $\textit{\textbf{P}}$ (as menti…
The notion of weakly Laskerian modules was introduced recently by the authors. Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring with identity, $\fa$ an ideal of $R$, and $M$ a weakly Laskerian module. It is shown that if $\fa$ is principal, then the set of associated primes of the local cohomology module $H_{\fa}^i(M)$ is finite for all $i\geq 0$. We also prove that when $R$ is local, then $\Ass_R(H_{\fa}^i(M))$ is finite for all $i\geq 0$ in the following cases: (1) $\dim R\leq 3$, (2) $\dim R/\fa\leq 1$, (3) $M$ is Cohen-Macaulay and for any ideal $\fb$, with $l=\grade(\fb,M)$, $\Hom_R(R/\fb,H_{\fb}…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring of prime characteristic $p$. In this paper we give a short proof using filter regular sequences that the set of associated prime ideals of $H^t_I(R)$ is finite for any ideal $I$ and for any $t \ge 0$ when $R$ has finite $F$-representation type or finite singular locus. This extends a previous result by Takagi-Takahashi and gives affirmative answers for a problem of Huneke in many new classes of rings in positive characteristic. We also give a criterion about the singularities of $R$ (in any characteristic) to guarantee that the set of associated primes …
Assume that $R = \bigoplus_{i\in \mathbb{N}_{0}} R_{i}$ is a homogeneous graded Noetherian ring, and that $M$ is a $ \mathbb{Z}$--graded $R$--module, where $ \mathbb{N}_{0}$ (resp. $ \mathbb{Z}$) denote the set all non--negative integers (resp. integers). The set of all homogeneous attached prime ideals of the top non--vanishing local cohomology module of a finitely generated module $M$, $\LH_{R_{+}}^{c}(M)$, with respect to the irrelevant ideal $R_{+}: =\bigoplus_{i\geq 1} R_{i}$ and the set of associated primes of $\LH _{R_{+}}^{i}(M)$ is studied. The asymptotic behavior of $\Hom_{R}(R/R_{+}…
In this article, we study the following question raised by Mel Hochster: let $(R,m,K)$ be a local ring and $S$ be a flat extension with regular closed fiber. Is $\cV(mS)\cap\Ass_S H^i_I(S)$ finite for every ideal $I\subset S$ and $i\in \NN?$ We prove that the answer is positive when $S$ is either a polynomial or a power series ring over $R$ and $\dim(R/I\cap R)\leq 1.$ In addition, we analyze when this question can be reduced to the case where $S$ is a power series ring over $R$. An important tool for our proof is the use of $Σ$-finite $D$-modules, which are not necessarily finitely generated …
Let $I$ and $J$ be two ideals of a commutative Noetherian ring $R$ and $M$ be an $R$-module. For a non-negative integer $n$ it is shown that, if the sets $\Ass_R(\Ext^{n} _{R}(R/I,M))$ and $\Supp_R(\Ext^{i}_{R}(R/I,H^{j}_{I,J} (M)))$ are finite for all $i \leq n+1$ and all $j< n$, then so is \linebreak$\Ass_R(\Hom_{R}(R/I,H^{n}_{I,J}(M)))$. We also study the finiteness of $\Ass_R(\Ext^{i}_{R}(R/I,H^{n}_{I,J} (M)))$ for $i=1,2$.
Assume $R$ is a local Cohen-Macaulay ring. It is shown that $\Ass_R (H^l_I(R))$ is finite for any ideal $I$ and any integer $l$ provided $\Ass_R (H^2_{(x,y)}(R))$ is finite for any $x,y\in R$ and $\Ass_R (H^3_{(x_1,x_2,y)}(R))$ is finite for any $y\in R$ and any regular sequence $x_1,x_2\in R$. Furthermore it is shown that $\Ass_R (H^l_I(R))$ is always finite if $\dim (R)\leq 3$. The same statement is even true for $\dim (R)\leq 4$ if $R$ is almost factorial.
