We construct the Green current for a random iteration of "horizontal-like" mappings in two complex dimensions. This is applied to the study of a polynomial map $f:\mathbb{C}^2\to\mathbb{C}^2$ with the following properties:
1. infinity is $f$-attracting,
2. $f$ contracts the line at infinity to a point not in the indeterminacy set.
Then the Green current of $f$ can be decomposed into pieces associated with an itinerary determined by the indeterminacy points.
We also study the set of escape rates near infinity, i.e. the possible values of the function $\limsup \frac{1}{n}\log^+\log^+ \norm{f^n}$. We exhibit examples for which this set contains an interval.
We show that for any quasimeromorphic mapping with an essential singularity at infinity, there exist points whose iterates tend to infinity arbitrarily slowly. This extends a result by Nicks for quasiregular mappings, and Rippon and Stallard for transcendental meromorphic functions on the complex plane. We further establish a new result for the growth rate of quasiregular mappings near an essential singularity, and briefly extend some results regarding the bounded orbit set and the bungee set to the quasimeromorphic setting.
This paper provides a canonical compactification of the plane ${\mathbb R}^2$ by adding a circle at infinity associated to a countable family of singular foliations or laminations (under some hypotheses), generalizing an idea by Mather \cite{Ma}. Moreover any homeomorphism of ${\mathbb R}^2 $ preserving the foliations extends on the circle at infinity. Then this paper provides conditions ensuring the minimality of the action on the circle at infinity induced by an action on ${\mathbb R}^2 $ preserving one foliation or two transverse foliations. In particular the action on the circle at infinit…
Let h:C \to C be an R-linear map. In this article, we explore the dynamics of the quasiregular mapping H(z)=h(z)^2. Via the Böttcher type coordinate constructed in "On Böttcher coordinates and quasiregular maps" by Fletcher and Fryer, we are able to obtain results for any degree two mapping of the plane with constant complex dilatation. We show that any such mapping has either one, two or three fixed external rays, that all cases can occur, and exhibit how the dynamics changes in each case. We use results from complex dynamics to prove that these mappings are nowhere uniformly quasiregular in …
We consider the problem of classifying the dynamics of complex polynomials $f: \mathbb{C} \to \mathbb{C}$ restricted to their basins of infinity. We synthesize existing combinatorial tools --- tableaux, trees, and laminations --- into a new invariant of basin dynamics we call the pictograph. For polynomials with all critical points escaping to infinity, we obtain a complete description of the set of topological conjugacy classes. We give an algorithm for constructing abstract pictographs, and we provide an inductive algorithm for counting topological conjugacy classes with a given pictograph.
We construct a quasiregular analogue of the function $z\exp(z)$ in dimension 3, which gives the first explicit example of a quasiregular mapping of transcendental type that has exactly one zero. We then modify the construction to create a family of such quasiregular mappings and study their dynamics. From this, we also construct the first quasimeromorphic mappings with an essential singularity at infinity where the backward orbit of infinity is non-empty and finite.
We study the projection $π: M_d \to B_d$ which sends an affine conjugacy class of polynomial $f: \mathbb{C}\to\mathbb{C}$ to the holomorphic conjugacy class of the restriction of $f$ to its basin of infinity. When $B_d$ is equipped with a dynamically natural Gromov-Hausdorff topology, the map $π$ becomes continuous and a homeomorphism on the shift locus. Our main result is that all fibers of $π$ are connected. Consequently, quasiconformal and topological basin-of-infinity conjugacy classes are also connected. The key ingredient in the proof is an analysis of model surfaces and model maps, bran…
We study the dynamics near infinity of polynomial mappings $f$ in $\mathbb{C}^2$. We assume that $f$ has indeterminacy points and is non constant on the line at infinity $L_\infty$. If $L_\infty$ is $f$-attracting, we decompose the Green current along itineraries defined by the indeterminacy points and their preimages. The symbolic dynamics that arises is a subshift on an infinite alphabet.
We investigate regularity of CR-mappings between real-analytic infinite type hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^2$. We show that, under the Fuchsian type condition, all (respectively formal or smooth) CR-diffeomorphisms between them are automatically analytic. The Fuchsian condition appears to be in a certain sense optimal for the regularity problem.
In this work, following [Bit15], we consider analytic singular vector fields in $(\mathbb{C}^{3},0)$ with an isolated and doubly-resonant singularity of saddle-node type at the origin. Such vector fields come from irregular two-dimensional differential systems with two opposite non-zero eigenvalues, and appear for instance when studying the irregular singularity at infinity in Painlev{é} equations (P\_j), j=I...V , for generic values of the parameters. Under suitable assumptions, we prove a theorem of analytic nor-malization over sectorial domains, analogous to the classical one due to Hukuhar…
This article concerns the iteration of quasiregular mappings on $\mathbb{R}^d$ and entire functions on $\mathbb{C}$. It is shown that there are always points at which the iterates of a quasiregular map tend to infinity at a controlled rate. Moreover, an asymptotic rate of escape result is proved that is new even for transcendental entire functions. Let $f:\mathbb{R}^d\to\mathbb{R}^d$ be quasiregular of transcendental type. Using novel methods of proof, we generalise results of Rippon and Stallard in complex dynamics to show that the Julia set of $f$ contains points at which the iterates $f^n$ …
Let $\mathbb{C}_v$ be a characteristic zero algebraically closed field which is complete with respect to a non-Archimedean absolute value. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for two tame polynomials in $\mathbb{C}_v[z]$ of degree $d \ge 2$ to be analytically conjugate on their basin of infinity. In the space of monic centered polynomials, tame polynomials with all their critical points in the basin of infinity form the tame shift locus. We show that a tame map $f\in\mathbb{C}_v[z]$ is in the closure of the tame shift locus if and only if the Fatou set of $f$ coincides with the bas…
The Fatou-Julia theory for rational functions has been extended both to transcendental meromorphic functions and more recently to several different types of quasiregular mappings in higher dimensions. We extend the iterative theory to quasimeromorphic mappings with an essential singularity at infinity and at least one pole, constructing the Julia set for these maps. We show that this Julia set shares many properties with those for transcendental meromorphic functions and for quasiregular mappings of punctured space.
We consider a finite composition of generalized Hénon mappings $\mathfrak{f}:\mathbb{C}^2\to\mathbb{C}^2$ and its Green function $\mathfrak{g}^+:\mathbb{C}^2\to\mathbb{R}_{\ge 0}$ (see Section 2). It is well known that each level set $\{\mathfrak{g}^+=c\}$ for $c>0$ is foliated by biholomorphic images of $\mathbb{C}$ and each leaf is dense. In this paper, we prove that each leaf is actually an injective Brody curve in $\mathbb{P}^2$ (see Section 4). Namely, for any injective holomorphic parametrization of any leaf, its derivative is bounded over $\mathbb{C}$ with respect to the Fubini-Study me…
It is well-known that a polynomial f(z)=a_d z^d(1+o(1)) can be conjugated by a holomorphic map phi to w \mapsto w^d in a neighbourhood of infinity. This map phi is called a Böttcher coordinate for f near infinity. In this paper we construct a Böttcher type coordinate for compositions of affine mappings and polynomials, a class of mappings first studied in "Quasiregular mappings of polynomial type in R^2" by A.Fletcher and D.Goodman. As an application, we prove that if h is affine and c is a complex number, then h(z)^2+c is not uniformly quasiregular.
In this work, following [Bit15] and [Bit16a], we consider analytic singular vector fields in $(\mathbb{C}^{3},0)$ with an isolated and doubly-resonant singularity of saddle-node type at the origin. Such vector fields come from irregular two-dimensional differential systems with two opposite non-zero eigenvalues, and appear for instance when studying the irregular singularity at infinity in Painlev{é} equations (P\_j), j=I...V , for generic values of the parameters. Let $(M_j)_{j=1}^\infty\in\mathbb{N}$ and $(r_j)_{j=1}^\infty\in\mathbb{R}^+$ be increasing sequences satisfying some mild rate of growth conditions. We prove that there is an entire function $f: \mathbb{C} \rightarrow\mathbb{C}$ whose behavior in the large annuli $\{ z\in\mathbb{C} : r_{j}\cdot\exp(π/M_{j})\leq|z|\leq r_{j+1}\}$ is given by a perturbed rescaling of $z\mapsto z^{M_j}$, such that the only singular values of $f$ are rescalings of $\pm r_j^{M_j}$. We describe several applications to the dynamics of entire functions.
We study the boundary behaviour of a meromorphic map $f: \mathbb C \to \widehat{\mathbb C}$ on its invariant simply connected Fatou component $U$. To this aim, we develop the theory of accesses to boundary points of $U$ and their relation to the dynamics of $f$. In particular, we establish a correspondence between invariant accesses from $U$ to infinity or weakly repelling points of $f$ and boundary fixed points of the associated inner function on the unit disc. We apply our results to describe the accesses to infinity from invariant Fatou components of the Newton maps.
This paper is concerned with the bifurcation from infinity of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$-Δu+V(x)u=λu+f(x,u),\hspace{0.4cm} x\in \mathbb{R}^N.$$ We treat this problem in the framework of dynamical systems by considering the corresponding parabolic equation on unbounded domains. Firstly, we establish a global invariant manifold for the parabolic equation on $\mathbb{R}^N$. Then, we restrict the parabolic equation to this invariant manifold, which generates a system of finite dimension. Finally, we use the Conley index theory and the shape theory of attractors to establish some new res…
We develop techniques for using compactifications of Hurwitz spaces to study families of rational maps $\mathbb{P}^1\to\mathbb{P}^1$ defined by critical orbit relations. We apply these techniques in two settings: We show that the parameter space $\mathrm{Per}_{d,n}$ of degree-$d$ bicritical maps with a marked 4-periodic critical point is a $d^2$-punctured Riemann surface of genus $\frac{(d-1)(d-2)}{2}$. We also show that the parameter space $\mathrm{Per}_{2,5}$ of degree-2 rational maps with a marked 5-periodic critical point is a 10-punctured elliptic curve, and we identify its isomorphism cl…
In this paper, we study the dynamics of the Potts-Bethe mapping associated with the $p-$adic $q-$state Potts model over the Cayley tree of order three. Namely, we establish the regularity of the Potts-Bethe mapping for the case $p\equiv 2 \ (mod \ 3)$ with $p\geq5$.
We study measures on $\mathbb{R}^d$ which are induced by a class of infinite and recursive iterations in symbolic dynamics. Beginning with a finite set of data, we analyze prescribed recursive iteration systems, each involving subdivisions. The construction includes measures arising from affine and contractive iterated function systems with and without overlap (IFSs), i.e., limit measures $μ$ induced by a finite family of affine mappings in $\mathbb{R}^d$ (the focus of our paper), as well as equilibrium measures in complex dynamics. By a systematic analysis of the Fourier transform of the meas…
