We use monoidal category methods to study the noncommutative geometry of nonassociative algebras obtained by a Drinfeld-type cochain twist. These are the so-called quasialgebras and include the octonions as braided-commutative but nonassociative coordinate rings, as well as quasialgebra versions $\CC_{q}(G)$ of the standard q-deformation quantum groups. We introduce the notion of ribbon algebras in the category, which are algebras equipped with a suitable generalised automorphism $σ$, and obtain the required generalisation of cyclic cohomology. We show that this \emph{braided cyclic cocohomology} is invariant under a cochain twist. We also extend to our generalisation the relation between cyclic cohomology and differential calculus on the ribbon quasialgebra. The paper includes differential calculus and cyclic cocycles on the octonions as a finite nonassociative geometry, as well as the algebraic noncommutative torus as an associative example.
We define two-cocycles and cleft extensions in categories that are not necessarily braided, but where specific objects braid from one direction, like for a Hopf algebra $H$ a Yetter-Drinfeld module braids from the left with $H$-modules. We will generalize classical results to this context and give some application for the categories of Yetter-Drinfeld modules and $H$-modules. In particular we will describe liftings of coradically graded Hopf algebras in the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules with these techniques.
We describe the groups of automorphisms of two generated free braided associative algebras with involutive diagonal braidings over a field of characteristic $\neq 2$. Depending on the form of the diagonal involutive braiding, five different automorphism groups arise as automorphism groups of two generated free braided associative algebras. This list covers all three automorphism groups that arise in the case of quantum planes \cite{AC}.
We show that for dually paired bialgebras, every comodule algebra over one of the paired bialgebras gives a comodule algebra over their Drinfeld double via a crossed product construction. These constructions generalize to working with bialgebra objects in a braided monoidal category of modules over a quasitriangular Hopf algebra. Hence two ways to provide comodule algebras over the braided Drinfeld double (the double bosonization) are provided. Furthermore, a map of second Hopf algebra cohomology spaces is constructed. It takes a pair of 2-cocycles over dually paired Hopf algebras and produces…
It is well known that central extensions of a group G correspond to 2-cocycles on G. Cocycles can be used to construct extensions of G-graded algebras via a version of the Drinfeld twist introduced by Majid. We show how 2-cocycles can be defined for an abstract monoidal category C, following Panaite, Staic and Van Oystaeyen. A braiding on C leads to analogues of Nichols algebras in C, and we explain how the recent work on twists of Nichols algebras by Andruskiewitsch, Fantino, Garcia and Vendramin fits in this context. Furthermore, we propose an approach to twisting the multiplication in braid…
We provide explicit and unified formulae for the normalized 3-cocycles on arbitrary finite abelian groups. As an application, we compute all the braided monoidal structures on linear Gr-categories.
Let $k$ be a field, $k^*=k\setminus\{0\}$ and $C_2$ the cyclic group of order 2. In this note we compute all the braided monoidal structures on the category of $k$-vector spaces graded by the Klein group $C_2\times C_2$. Actually, for the monoidal structures we will compute the explicit form of the 3-cocycles on $C_2\times C_2$ with coefficients in $k^*$, while for the braided monoidal structures we will compute the explicit form of the abelian 3-cocycles on $C_2\times C_2$ with coefficients in $k^*$. In particular, this will allow us to produce examples of quasi-Hopf algebras and weak braided…
In pointed braided fusion categories knowing the self-symmetry braiding of simples is theoretically enough to reconstruct the associator and braiding on the entire category (up to twisting by a braided monoidal auto-equivalence). We address the problem to provide explicit associator formulas given only such input. This problem was solved by Quinn in the case of finitely many simples. We reprove and generalize this in various ways. In particular, we show that extra symmetries of Quinn's associator can still be arranged to hold in situations where one has infinitely many isoclasses of simples.
A linear Gr-category is a category of finite-dimensional vector spaces graded by a finite group together with natural tensor product. We classify the braided monoidal structures of a class of linear Gr-categories via explicit computations of the 3-cocycles and quasi-bicharacters of finite abelian groups which are direct product of two cyclic groups.
By applying the idea of viewing the octonions as an associative algebra in certain tensor categories, or more precisely as a twisted group algebra by a 2-cochain, we show that the octonions form an Azumaya algebra in some suitable braided linear Gr-categories.
Let $H$ be a Hopf algebra. Any finite-dimensional lifting of $V\in {}^{H}_{H}\mathcal{YD}$ arising as a cocycle deformation of $A=\mathfrak{B}(V)\#H$ defines a twist in the Hopf algebra $A^*$, via dualization. We follow this recipe to write down explicit examples and show that it extends known techniques for defining twists. We also contribute with a detailed survey about twists in braided categories.
We show that the braided Hochschild cohomology, of an algebra in a suitably algebraic braided monoidal category, admits a graded ring structure under which it is braided commutative. We then give a canonical identification between the usual Hochschild cohomology ring of a smash product and the (derived) invariants of its braided Hochschild cohomology ring. We apply our results to identify the associative formal deformation theory of a smash product with its formal deformation theory as a module algebra over the given Hopf algebra (when the Hopf algebra is sufficiently semisimple). As a second …
Let k be a field. Let also (F, G) be a matched pair of groups. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on a pair (σ, τ) of 2-cocycles in order that the crossed product algebra and the crossed coproduct coalgebra k^G{}^τ#_σ kF combine into a braided Hopf algebra. We also discuss diagonal realizations of such braided Hopf algebras in the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules over a finite group.
We introduce a method to construct explicitly multiplicative 2-cocycles for bosonizations of Nichols algebras B(V) over Hopf algebras H. These cocycles arise as liftings of H-invariant linear functionals on V tensor V and give a close formula to deform braided commutator-type relations. Using this construction, we show that all known finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras over the dihedral groups D_m with m=4t > 11, over the symmetric group S_3 and some families over S_4 are cocycle deformations of bosonizations of Nichols algebras.
In this paper, the Drinfeld center of a monoidal category is generalized to a class of mixed Drinfeld centers. This gives a unified picture for the Drinfeld center and a natural Heisenberg analogue. Further, there is an action of the former on the latter. This picture is translated to a description in terms of Yetter-Drinfeld and Hopf modules over quasi-bialgebras in a braided monoidal category. Via braided reconstruction theory, intrinsic definitions of braided Drinfeld and Heisenberg doubles are obtained, together with a generalization of the result in [Lu94] that the Heisenberg double is a …
Hochschild two-cocycles play an important role in the deformation à la Gerstenhaber of associative algebras. The aim of this paper is to introduce the category of Hoch-algebras whose objects are associative algebras equipped with an extra magmatic operation \succ verifying the Hochschild two-cocycle relation: (x \succ y)*z+ (x*y)\succ z= x\succ (y*z)+ x*(y\succ z). The free Hoch-algebra over a K-vector space is given in terms of planar rooted trees and the triples of operads (As,Hoch, Mag^\infty) endowed with the infinitesimal relations are shown to be good. We then obtain an equivalence of ca…
We construct an associative algebra with a decomposition into the direct sum of the underlying vector spaces of another associative algebra and its dual space such that both of them are subalgebras and the natural symmetric bilinear form is invariant or the natural antisymmetric bilinear form is a Connes cocycle. The former is called a double construction of Frobenius algebra and the latter is called a double construction of Connes cocycle which is interpreted in terms of dendriform algebras. Both of them are equivalent to a kind of bialgebras, namely, antisymmetric infinitesimal bialgebras an…
Let $V$ be a vertex operator algebra satisfying suitable conditions such that in particular its module category has a natural vertex tensor category structure, and consequently, a natural braided tensor category structure. We prove that the notions of extension (i.e., enlargement) of $V$ and of commutative associative algebra, with uniqueness of unit and with trivial twist, in the braided tensor category of $V$-modules are equivalent.
We find the general solution to the twisting equation in the tensor bialgebra $T({\bf R})$ of an associative unital ring ${\bf R}$ viewed as that of fundamental representation for a universal enveloping Lie algebra and its quantum deformations. We suggest a procedure of constructing twisting cocycles belonging to a given quasitriangular subbialgebra ${\cal H}\subset T({\bf R})$. This algorithm generalizes Reshetikhin's approach, which involves cocycles fulfilling the Yang-Baxter equation. Within this framework we study a class of quantized inhomogeneous Lie algebras related to associative ring…
We establish braided tensor equivalences among module categories over the twisted quantum double of a finite group defined by an extension of a group H by an abelian group, with 3-cocycle inflated from a 3-cocycle on H. We also prove that the canonical ribbon structure of the module category of any twisted quantum double of a finite group is preserved by braided tensor equivalences. We give two main applications: first, if G is an extra-special 2-group of width at least 2, we show that the quantum double of G twisted by a 3-cocycle w is gauge equivalent to a twisted quantum double of an elemen…
The set of primitive elements of a Hopf algebra in the braided category of group graded vector spaces (with a commutative group) carry the structure of a generalized Lie algebra. In particular the graded derivations of an associative algebra carry this Lie algebra structure. The Lie multiplications consist of certain n-ary partially defined multiplications satisfying generalized antisymmetry and Jacobi identities. This generalizes the concept of Lie super algebras and Lie color algebras. We show that universal enveloping algebras in the braided category exist. They are (braided) Hopf algebras.…
We show that, under some mild conditions, a bialgebra in an abelian and coabelian braided monoidal category has a weak projection onto a formally smooth (as a coalgebra) sub-bialgebra with antipode; see Theorem 1.12. In the second part of the paper we prove that bialgebras with weak projections are cross product bialgebras; see Theorem 2.12. In the particular case when the bialgebra $A$ is cocommutative and a certain cocycle associated to the weak projection is trivial we prove that $A$ is a double cross product, or biproduct in Madjid's terminology. The last result is based on a universal pro…
A fundamental step in the classification of finite-dimensional complex pointed Hopf algebras is the determination of all finite-dimensional Nichols algebras of braided vector spaces arising from groups. The most important class of braided vector spaces arising from groups is the class of braided vector spaces (CX, c^q), where C is the field of complex numbers, X is a rack and q is a 2-cocycle on X with values in C^*. Racks and cohomology of racks appeared also in the work of topologists. This leads us to the study of the structure of racks, their cohomology groups and the corresponding Nichols…
We classify finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras with abelian coradical, up to isomorphism, and show that they are cocycle deformations of the associated graded Hopf algebra. More generally, for any braided vector space of diagonal type $V$ with a principal realization in the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules of a cosemisimple Hopf algebra $H$ and such that the Nichols algebra $\mathfrak{B}(V)$ is finite-dimensional, thus presented by a finite set $\mathcal G$ of relations, we define a family of Hopf algebras $\mathfrak{u}(\boldsymbolλ)$, $\boldsymbolλ\in \Bbbk^{\mathcal G}$, which are c…
Bosons and Parabosons are described as associative superalgebras, with an infinite number of odd generators. Bosons are shown to be a quotient superalgebra of Parabosons, establishing thus an even algebra epimorphism which is an immediate link between their simple modules. Parabosons are shown to be a super-Hopf algebra. The super-Hopf algebraic structure of Parabosons, combined with the projection epimorphism previously stated, provides us with a braided interpretation of the Green's ansatz device and of the parabosonic Fock-like representations. This braided interpretation combined with an o…
In a paper by Su and Zhao, the Lie algebra $A[D]=A\otimes F[D]$ of Weyl type was defined and studied, where $A$ is a commutative associative algebra with an identity element over a field $F$ of arbitrary characteristic, and $F[D]$ is the polynomial algebra of a commutative derivation subalgebra $D$ of $A$. The 2-cocycles of a class of $A[D]$ were determined by Su. In the present paper, we determine the 2-cocycles of a class of Lie superalgebras of Weyl type over a field $F$ of characteristic 0.
The ribbon cocycle invariant is defined by means of a partition function using ternary cohomology of self-distributive structures (TSD) and colorings of ribbon diagrams of a framed link, following the same paradigm introduced by Carter, Jelsovsky, Kamada, Langfor and Saito in Transactions of the American Mathematical Society 2003;355(10):3947-89, for the quandle cocycle invariant. In this article we show that the ribbon cocycle invariant is a quantum invariant. We do so by constructing a ribbon category from a TSD set whose twisting and braiding morphisms entail a given TSD $2$-cocycle. Then w…
We describe semiinfinite cohomology of associative algebras in terms of Koszul (or bar) duality. Consider an associative algebra $A$ and two its subalgebras $B$ and $N$ such that $A=B\otimes N$ as a vector space. We prove that the endomorphism algebra of the semiregular $A$-module appears naturally in semiinfinite cohomology theory as a ``two times Koszul dual'' to the algebra $A$. We compare semiinfinite cohomology of universal enveloping algebras with the well-known Lie algebra semiinfinite cohomology. A new description of the critical 2-cocycle is provided. As a consequence we obtain anothe…
In a recent paper by Zhao and the author, the Lie algebras $A[D]=A\otimes F[D]$ of Weyl type were defined and studied, where $A$ is a commutative associative algebra with an identity element over a field $F$ of any characteristic, and $F[D]$ is the polynomial algebra of a commutative derivation subalgebra $D$ of $A$. In the present paper, the 2-cocycles of a class of the above Lie algebras $A[D]$ (which are called the Lie algebras of generalized differential operators in the present paper), with $F$ being a field of characteristic 0, are determined. Among all the 2-cocycles, there is a special…
Suppose $V^G$ is the fixed-point vertex operator subalgebra of a compact group $G$ acting on a simple abelian intertwining algebra $V$. We show that if all irreducible $V^G$-modules contained in $V$ live in some braided tensor category of $V^G$-modules, then they generate a tensor subcategory equivalent to the category $\mathrm{Rep}\,G$ of finite-dimensional representations of $G$, with associativity and braiding isomorphisms modified by the abelian $3$-cocycle defining the abelian intertwining algebra structure on $V$. Additionally, we show that if the fusion rules for the irreducible $V^G$-m…
We extend the covering of even and odd Khovanov link homology to tangles, using arc algebras. For this, we develop the theory of quasi-associative algebras and bimodules graded over a category with a 3-cocycle. Furthermore, we show that a covering version of a level 2 cyclotomic half 2-Kac--Moody algebra acts on the bicategory of quasi-associative bimodules over the covering arc algebras, relating our work to a construction of Vaz.
Quivers over a fixed base set form a monoidal category with tensor product given by pullback. The quantum Yang-Baxter equation, or more properly the braid equation, is investigated in this setting. A solution of the braid equation in this category is called a "solution" for short. Results of Etingof-Schedler-Soloviev, Lu-Yan-Zhu and Takeuchi on the set-theoretical quantum Yang-Baxter equation are generalized to the context of quivers, with groupoids playing the rôle of groups. The notion of "braided groupoid" is introduced. Braided groupoids are solutions and are characterized in terms of bije…
We integrate the Lifting cocycles $Ψ_{2n+1},Ψ_{2n+3},Ψ_{2n+5},...$ ([Sh1], [Sh2]) on the Lie algebra $\Dif_n$ of holomorphic differential operators on an $n$-dimensional complex vector space to the cocycles on the Lie algebra of holomorphic differential operators on a holomorphic line bundle $λ$ on an $n$-dimensional complex manifold $M$ in the sense of Gelfand-Fuks cohomology [GF] (more precisely, we integrate the cocycles on the sheaves of the Lie algebras of finite matrices over the corresponding associative algebras). The main result is the following explicit form of the Feigin-Tsygan theo…
Universal Deformation Formulas (UDFs) for the deformation of associative algebras play a key role in deformation quantization. Here we present examples for certain classes of infinitesimals. A basic representable 2-cocycle $F$ of an associative algebra $\mathcal A$ is one for which there exist commuting derivations $D,\dots, D_n$ of $\mathcal A$ such that $F = \sum_{ij}a_{ij}D_i \smile D_j$, where the $a_{ij}$ are central elements of $\mathcal A$. When $\mathcal A$ is defined over the rationals, there is a natural definition of the exponential of such a cocycle. With this $\exp \hbar F$ define…
We use braided groups to introduce a theory of $*$-structures on general inhomogeneous quantum groups, which we formulate as {\em quasi-$*$} Hopf algebras. This allows the construction of the tensor product of unitary representations up to a quantum cocycle isomorphism, which is a novel feature of the inhomogeneous case. Examples include $q$-Poincaré quantum group enveloping algebras in $R$-matrix form appropriate to the previous $q$-Euclidean and $q$-Minkowski spacetime algebras $R_{21}x_1x_2=x_2x_1R$ and $R_{21}u_1Ru_2=u_2R_{21}u_1R$. We obtain unitarity of the fundamental differential repre…
This paper addresses a Hom-associative algebra built as a direct sum of a given Hom-associative algebra $(\mathcal{A}, \cdot, α)$ and its dual $(\mathcal{A}^{\ast}, \circ, α^{\ast}),$ endowed with a non-degenerate symmetric bilinear form $\mathcal{B},$ where $\cdot$ and $\circ$ are the products defined on $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{A}^{\ast},$ respectively, and $ α$ and $α^{\ast}$ stand for the corresponding algebra homomorphisms. Such a double construction, also called Hom-Frobenius algebra, is interpreted in terms of an infinitesimal Hom-bialgebra. The same procedure is applied to character…
We show that the octonions are a twisting of the group algebra of Z_2 x Z_2 x Z_2 in the quasitensor category of representations of a quasi-Hopf algebra associated to a group 3-cocycle. We consider general quasi-associative algebras of this type and some general constructions for them, including quasi-linear algebra and representation theory, and an automorphism quasi-Hopf algebra. Other examples include the higher 2^n-onion Cayley algebras and examples associated to Hadamard matrices.
The category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules over a Hopf algebra (with bijektive antipode over a field) is a braided monoidal category. Given a Hopf algebra in this category then the primitive elements of this Hopf algebra do not form an ordinary Lie algebra anymore. We introduce the notion of a (generalized) Lie algebra in the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules such that the set of primitive elements of a Hopf algebra is a Lie algebra in this sense. It has n-ary partially defined Lie multiplications on certain symmetric submodules of n- fold tensor products. They satisfy antisymmetry and Jacobi i…
In this work, for a finite group $G$ and a 4-cocycle $ω\in Z^4(G, \mathbf{k}^\times)$, we compute explicitly the center of the monoidal 2-category $\operatorname{2Vec}_G^ω$ of $ω$-twisted $G$-graded 1-categories of finite dimensional $\mathbf{k}$-vector spaces. This center gives a precise mathematical description of the topological defects in the associated 3+1D Dijkgraaf-Witten TQFT. We prove that this center is a braided monoidal 2-category with a trivial sylleptic center.
A two-dimensional chiral conformal field theory can be viewed mathematically as the representation theory of its chiral algebra, a vertex operator algebra. Vertex operator algebras are especially well suited for studying logarithmic conformal field theory (in which correlation functions have logarithmic singularities arising from non-semisimple modules for the chiral algebra) because of the logarithmic tensor category theory of Huang, Lepowsky, and Zhang. In this paper, we study not-necessarily-semisimple or rigid braided tensor categories $\mathcal{C}$ of modules for the fixed-point vertex op…
The discussions in the present paper arise from exploring intrinsically the structure nature of the quantum $n$-space. A kind of braided category $\Cal {GB}$ of $\La$-graded $þ$-commutative associative algebras over a field $k$ is established. The quantum divided power algebra over $k$ related to the quantum $n$-space is introduced and described as a braided Hopf algebra in $\Cal {GB}$ (in terms of its 2-cocycle structure), over which the so called special $q$-derivatives are defined so that several new interesting quantum groups, especially, the quantized polynomial algebra in $n$ variables (…
For a braided vector space $(V,σ)$ with braiding $σ$ of Hecke type, we introduce three associative algebra structures on the space $\oplus_{p=0}^{M}\mathrm{End}S_σ^p(V)$ of graded endomorphisms of the quantum symmetric algebra $S_σ(V)$. We use the second product to construct a new trace. This trace is an algebra morphism with respect to the third product. In particular, when $V$ is the fundamental representation of $\mathcal{U}_{q}\mathfrak{sl}_{N+1}$ and $σ$ is the action of the $R$-matrix, this trace is a scalar multiple of the quantum trace of type $A$.
We analyse the symmetries underlying nonassociative deformations of geometry in non-geometric R-flux compactifications which arise via T-duality from closed strings with constant geometric fluxes. Starting from the non-abelian Lie algebra of translations and Bopp shifts in phase space, together with a suitable cochain twist, we construct the quasi-Hopf algebra of symmetries that deforms the algebra of functions and the exterior differential calculus in the phase space description of nonassociative R-space. In this setting nonassociativity is characterised by the associator 3-cocycle which cont…
We introduce the notion of `bar category' by which we mean a monoidal category equipped with additional structure formalising the notion of complex conjugation. Examples of our theory include bimodules over a $*$-algebra, modules over a conventional $*$-Hopf algebra and modules over a more general object which call a `quasi-$*$-Hopf algebra' and for which examples include the standard quantum groups $u_q(g)$ at $q$ a root of unity (these are well-known not to be a usual $*$-Hopf algebra). We also provide examples of strictly quasiassociative bar categories, including modules over `$*$-quasiHop…
Finite Temperley-Lieb (TL) algebras are diagram-algebra quotients of (the group algebra of) the famous Artin's braid group $B_N$, while the affine TL algebras arise as diagram algebras from a generalized version of the braid group. We study asymptotic `$N\to\infty$' representation theory of these quotients (parametrized by $q\in\mathbb{C}^{\times}$) from a perspective of braided monoidal categories. Using certain idempotent subalgebras in the finite and affine algebras, we construct infinite `arc' towers of the diagram algebras and the corresponding direct system of representation categories, …
Deformation theory of associative algebras and in particular of Poisson algebras is reviewed. The role of an almost contraction leading to a canonical solution of the corresponding Maurer-Cartan equation is noted. This role is reminiscent of the homotopical perturbation lemma, with the infinitesimal deformation cocycle as initiator. Applied to star-products, we show how Moyal's formula can be obtained using such an almost contraction and conjecture that the merger operation provides a canonical solution at least in the case of linear Poisson structures.
