Let $X$ be a projective K3 surface with generic polarization $\cO_X(1)$ and let $M_c=M(2,0,c)$ be the moduli space of semistable torsion-free sheaves on $X$ of rank 2, with Chern classes $c_1=0$ and $c_2=c$. When $c=2n\ge 4$ is even, $M_c$ is a singular projective variety. We show that there is no symplectic desingularization of $M_{2n}$ if $\frac{n a_n}{2n-3}$ is not an integer where $a_n$ is the Euler number of the Hilbert scheme $X^{[n]}$ of $n$ points in $X$.
Let $X$ be a nonsingular projective surface over an algebraically closed field with characteristic zero, and $H_-$ and $H_+$ ample line bundles on $X$ separated by only one wall of type $(c_1,c_2)$. Suppose the moduli scheme $M(H_-)$ of rank-two $H_-$-stable sheaves with Chern classes $(c_1,c_2)$ is non-singular. We shall construct a desingularization of $M(H_+)$ by using $M(H_-)$. As an application, we consider whether singularities of $M(H_+)$ are terminal or not when $X$ is ruled or elliptic.
We study birational maps among 1) the moduli space of semistable torsion sheaves of Hilbert polynomial $4m+2$ on a smooth quadric surface, 2) the moduli space of semistable torsion sheaves of Hilbert polynomial $m^{2}+3m+2$ on $\mathbb{P}^{3}$, 3) Kontsevich's moduli space of genus zero stable maps of degree 2 to Grassmannian $Gr(2, 4)$. A regular birational morphism from 1) to 2) is described in terms of Fourier-Mukai transform. The map from 3) to 2) is Kirwan's partial desingularization. Also we investigate several geometric properties of 1) by using the variation of moduli spaces of stable …
In preprint alg-geom/9708009 we have constructed a (ten-dimensional) symplectic desingularization of the moduli space of rank-two torsion-free semistable sheaves on a $K3$, with trivial determinant and second Chern class equal to 4. In the present paper we prove that (every deformation of) this desingularization is a new irreducible symplectic variety. More precisely we show that the desingularization is irreducible symplectic, and that its second Betti number is at least 24.
Let $\mathbf{M}_n$ be the Simpson compactification of twisted ideal sheaves $\mathcal{I}_{L,Q}(1)$ where $Q$ is a rank $4$ quardric hypersurface in $\mathbb{P}^n$ and $L$ is a linear subspace of dimension $n-2$. This paper calculates the intersection Poincaré polynomial of $\mathbf{M}_n$ using Kirwan's desingularization method. We obtain the intersection Poincaré polynomial of the moduli space for one-dimensional sheaves on del Pezzo surfaces of degree $\geq 8$ by considering wall-crossings of stable pairs and complexes.
Moduli spaces of semistable torsion-free sheaves on a K3 surface $X$ are often holomorphic symplectic varieties, deformation equivalent to a Hilbert scheme parametrizing zero-dimensional subschemes of $X$. In fact this should hold whenever semistability is equivalent to stability. In this paper we study a typical "opposite" case, i.e. the moduli space $M_c$ of semistable rank-two torsion-free sheaves on $X$ with trivial determinant and second Chern class equal to an even number $c$. The moduli space $M_c$ always contains points corresponding to strictly semistable sheaves. If $c$ is at least 4…
In this article, we prove the Hodge conjecture for a desingularization of the moduli space of rank 2, semi-stable, torsion-free sheaves with fixed odd degree determinant over a very general irreducible nodal curve of genus at least 2. We also compute the algebraic Poincare polynomial of the associated cohomology ring.
We view the moduli space of semistable sheaves on a K3 surface as a global quotient stack, and compute its cotangent complex in terms of the universal sheaf on the Quot scheme. Relevant facts on the classical and reduced Atiyah classes are reviewed. We also define the notion of a symplectic stack, and show that it includes all moduli stacks of semistable sheaves on K3 surfaces.
We provide generalizations of the notions of Atiyah class and Kodaira-Spencer map to the case of framed sheaves. Moreover, we construct closed two-forms on the moduli spaces of framed sheaves on surfaces. As an application, we define a symplectic structure on the moduli spaces of framed sheaves on some birationally ruled surfaces.
We show that the space of first-order deformations of an orthogonal (resp. symplectic) sheaf over a smooth projective scheme is the first hypercohomology space of a complex which is naturally constructed out of the orthogonal (resp. symplectic) sheaf. We also provide an obstruction theory of these objects whose target is the second hypercohomology space of this complex.
We show that the moduli spaces of sheaves on a projective K3 surface are irreducible symplectic varieties, and that the same holds for the fibers of the Albanese map of moduli spaces of sheaves on an Abelian surface.
Let G be a reductive groups over an algebraically closed field k. Let P^{(i)} be associated parabolic subgroups, and X^{(i)}:=T^*G/P^i. The bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves on X^{(i)} are equivalent, but there is no canonical equivalence. By refining a construction from a previous paper, we construct a local system of categories over a topological space V^0_C, where these categories are assigned to different points in V^0_C. Natural equivalence functors between these categories are parameterized by homotopy classes of paths between the corresponding points.
A 10-dimensional symplectic moduli space of torsion sheaves on the cubic 4-fold is constructed. It parametrizes the stable rank 2 vector bundles on the hypeplane sections of the cubic 4-fold which are obtained by Serre's construction from normal elliptic quintics. The natural projection to the dual projective 5-space parametrizing the hyperplane sections is a Lagrangian fibration. The symplectic structure is closely related (and conjecturally, is equal) to the quasi-symplectic one, induced by the Yoneda pairing on the moduli space.
A framed symplectic sheaf on a smooth projective surface $X$ is a torsion-free sheaf $E$ together with a trivialization on a divisor $D\subseteq X$ and a morphism $Λ^{2}E\rightarrow\mathcal{O}_{X}$ satisfying some additional conditions. We construct a moduli space for framed symplectic sheaves on a surface, and present a detailed study for $X=\mathbb{P}_{\mathbb{C}}^{2}$. In this case, the moduli space is irreducible and admits an ADHM-type description and a birational proper map into the space of framed symplectic ideal instantons.
Let $M_c=M(2,0,c)$ be the moduli space of O(1)-semistable rank 2 torsion-free sheaves with Chern classes $c_1=0$ and $c_2=c$ on a K3 surface $X$ where O(1) is a generic ample line bundle on $X$. When $c=2n\geq4$ is even, $M_c$ is a singular projective variety equipped with a symplectic structure on the smooth locus. In this paper, we show that there is no crepant resolution of $M_{2n}$ for $n\geq 3$. This implies that there is no symplectic desingularization.
Let J be an abelian surface with a generic ample line bundle O(1). For n>0, the moduli space M(2, 0, 2n) of O(1)-semistable sheaves F of rank 2 with Chern classes c_1(F) = 0, c_2(F) = 2n is a singular projective variety, endowed with a holomorphic symplectic structure on the smooth locus. In this paper, we show that there does not exist a crepant resolution of M(2; 0; 2n) for n>1. This certainly implies that there is no symplectic desingularization of M(2, 0, 2n) for n>1.
Several situations are known when a holomorphic 2-form on a moduli space of sheaves over some base S is induced by a holomorphic 2-form on S. Moreover, the closedness of the 2-form on the base implies the closedness on the moduli space, which provides a stock of symplectic structures on moduli spaces (Mukai, Kobayashi, O'Grady, Tyurin, Huybrechts--Lehn). A parallel theory was developed for bivector fields and Poisson structures (Bottacin). However, there exist symplectic moduli spaces of sheaves over bases that have no holomorphic forms at all. A well-known example (Beauville--Donagi) is the f…
A projective symplectic variety $\mathcal{P}$ of dimension 6, with only finite quotient singularities, $π(\mathcal{P})=0$ and $h^{(2,0)}(\mathcal{P}_{smooth})=1$, is described as a relative compactified Prym variety of a family of genus 4 curves with involution. It is a Lagrangian fibration associated to a K3 surface double cover of a generic cubic surface. It has no symplectic desingularization.
By results of the author there exists a projective (holomorphic) symplectic desingularization of the moduli space of rank-two torsion-free sheaves on a genus-two Jacobian with $c_1=0$ and $c_2=2$. This desingularization has a natural map to the self-product of the Jacobian. We show that the fiber over $(0,0)$ is a 6-dimensional projective irreducible symplectic variety (and hence a 12-dimensional compact Hyperkahler manifold) with second Betti number equal to 8. Thus it is not deformation equivalent to any of the (few) known examples of irreducible symplectic varieties, even up to birational e…
Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>>0. Let $X\rightarrow Y$ be a symplectic resolution. There are two questions which motivates this work. One question is a construction of an action of a group on the category $\mathcal{C}:=D^b(Coh(X))$ - The bounded derived category of coherent sheaves of the symplectic resolution X. Second question is understanding equivalence functors between derived categories of coherent sheaves for different symplectic resolutions of Y. Let G/k be a reductive group. In this paper, we construct a local system on a topological space called $V^0_{\ma…
We study intersections of complex Lagrangian in complex symplectic manifolds, proving two main results. First, we construct global canonical perverse sheaves on complex Lagrangian intersections in complex symplectic manifolds for any pair of {\it oriented} Lagrangian submanifolds in the complex analytic topology. Our method uses classical results in complex symplectic geometry and some results from arXiv:1304.4508. The algebraic version of our result has already been obtained by the author et al. in arXiv:1211.3259 using different methods, where we used, in particular, the recent new theory of…
We describe here a degeneration of the symplectic desingularization of the moduli spaces of topologically trivial $GL(2,\mathbb{C})$ and $SL(2,\mathbb{C})$-Higgs bundles over a hyperelliptic curve, into O'Grady's ten and six dimensional exceptional examples of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds. Most of this note is a survey of work on these degenerations by Donagi-Ein-Lazarsfeld, de Cataldo-Maulik-Shen and Felissetti-Mauri, although in certain cases we provide details that were missing the previous articles.
Inspired by symplectic geometry and a microlocal characterizations of perverse (constructible) sheaves we consider an alternative definition of perverse coherent sheaves. We show that a coherent sheaf is perverse if and only if $RΓ_Z(\mathcal{F})$ is concentrated in degree 0 for special subvarieties Z of X. These subvarieties Z are analogs of Lagrangians in the symplectic case.
The Beauville-Bogomolov lattice is computed for a simplest singular symplectic manifold of dimension 4, obtained as a partial desingularization of the quotient $S^{[2]}/ι$, where $S^{[2]}$ is the Hilbert square of a K3 surface $S$ and $ι$ is a symplectic involution on it. This result applies, in particular, to the singular symplectic manifolds of dimension 4, constructed by Markushevich-Tikhomirov as compactifications of families of Prym varieties of a linear system of curves on a K3 surface with an anti-symplectic involution.
We investigate the moduli spaces of one- and two-dimensional sheaves on projective K3 and abelian surfaces that are semistable with respect to a nongeneral ample divisor with regard to the symplectic resolvability. We can exclude the existence of new examples of projective irreducible symplectic manifolds lying birationally over components of the moduli spaces of one-dimensional semistable sheaves on K3 surfaces, and over components of many of the moduli spaces of two-dimensional sheaves on K3 surfaces, in particular, of those for rank two sheaves.
We complete Mori's program for Kontsevich's moduli space of degree 2 stable maps to Grassmannian of lines. We describe all birational models in terms of moduli spaces (of curves and sheaves), incidence varieties, and Kirwan's partial desingularization.
We construct a desingularization of the ``main component'' $\bar{\mathfrak M}_{1,k}^0(\Bbb{P}^n,d)$ of the moduli space $\bar{\mathfrak M}_{1,k}(\Bbb{P}^n,d)$ of genus-one stable maps into the complex projective space $\Bbb{P}^n$. As a bonus, we obtain desingularizations of certain natural sheaves over $\bar{\mathfrak M}_{1,k}^0(\Bbb{P}^n,d)$. Such desingularizations are useful for integrating natural cohomology classes on $\bar{\mathfrak M}_{1,k}^0(\Bbb{P}^n,d)$ using localization. In turn, these classes can be used to compute the genus-one Gromov-Witten invariants of complete intersections a…
We study the equivariant sheaf counting theory on K3 surfaces with finite group actions. Let $\sS=[S/G]$ be a global quotient stack, where $S$ is a K3 surface and $G$ is a finite group acting as symplectic homomorphisms on $S$. We show that the Joyce invariants counting Gieseker semistable sheaves on $\sS$ are independent on the Bridgeland stability conditions. As an application we prove the multiple cover formula of Y. Toda for the counting invariants for semistable sheaves on local K3 surfaces with a symplectic finite group action.
Let M be a moduli space of stable sheaves on a K3 or Abelian surface S. We express the class of the diagonal in the cartesian square of M in terms of the Chern classes of a universal sheaf. Consequently, we obtain generators of the cohomology ring of M. When S is a K3 and M is the Hilbert scheme of length n subschemes, this set of generators is sufficiently small in the sense that there aren't any relations among them in the stable cohomology ring. When S is the cotangent bundle of a Riemann surface, we recover the result of T. Hausel and M. Thaddeus: The cohomology ring of the moduli spaces o…
We regard the pre-hyperkähler structure on the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves $\mathcal{F}(1,3,1)$ on the projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$ via an adaptation of the ADHM construction of framed sheaves. Then, we study and categorize the degenerate points of the holomorphic pre-symplectic form presented in the moduli space.
We use twisted Fourier-Mukai transforms to study the relation between an abelian fibration on a holomorphic symplectic manifold and its dual fibration. Our reasoning leads to an equivalence between the derived category of coherent sheaves on one space and the derived category of twisted sheaves on the other space.
Let $V$ be a finite-dimensional symplectic vector space over a field of characteristic 0, and let $G \subset Sp(V)$ be a finite subgroup. We prove that for any crepant resolution $X \to V/G$, the bounded derived category $D^b(Coh(X))$ of coherent sheaves on $X$ is equivalent to the bounded derived category $D^b_G(Coh(V))$ of $G$-equivariant coherent sheaves on $V$.
Results on stability of tautological sheaves on Hilbert schemes of points are extended to higher dimensions and transferred to abelian surfaces and to the restriction of tautological sheaves to generalised Kummer varieties. This provides a big class of new examples of stable sheaves on higher dimensional irreducible symplectic manifolds. Some aspects of deformations of tautological sheaves are studied.
Components of the Moduli space of sheaves on a K3 surface are parametrized by a lattice; the (algebraic) Mukai lattice. Isometries of the Mukai lattice often lift to symplectic birational isomorphisms of the collection of components. An example of such a birational isomorphism is the Abel-Jacobi map relating the Hilbert scheme of g points on a K3 of degree 2g-2 to an integrable system: the union of Jacobians of hyperplane sections (curves) of genus g. The main results are: 1) We construct a stratified version of a Mukai elementary transformation modeled after dual pairs of Springer resolutions…
We describe a compactification by KSBA stable pairs of the five-dimensional moduli space of K3 surfaces with purely non-symplectic automorphism of order four and $U(2)\oplus D_4^{\oplus2}$ lattice polarization. These K3 surfaces can be realized as the minimal resolution of the double cover of $\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^1$ branched along a specific $(4,4)$ curve. We show that, up to a finite group action, this stable pair compactification is isomorphic to Kirwan's partial desingularization of the GIT quotient $(\mathbb{P}^1)^8//\mathrm{SL}_2$ with the symmetric linearization.
We study the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves on the projective plane via an adaptation of the ADHM construction of framed sheaves. In particular, we prove that, for certain values of the topological invariants, the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves is an irreducible, nonsingular variety carrying a holomorphic pre-symplectic form.
Moduli spaces of stably irreducible sheaves on Kodaira surfaces belong to the short list of examples of smooth and compact holomorphic symplectic manifolds, and it is not yet known how they fit into the classification of holomorphic symplectic manifolds by deformation type. This paper studies a natural Lagrangian fibration on these moduli spaces to determine that they are not Kähler or simply connected, ruling out most of the known deformation types of holomorphic symplectic manifolds.
We give an existence result on (H,A)-stable sheaves on a K3 or abelian surface X with primitive triple of invariants (rank, first Chern class,Euler characteristics) in the integral cohomology lattice. Such a result yields the existence of singular projective Q-factorial symplectic terminalisations of certain moduli spaces of sheaves on X that are Gieseker semistable with respect to a nongeneral ample divisor.
The aim of this paper is to study the singularities of certain moduli spaces of sheaves on K3 surfaces by means of Nakajima quiver varieties. The singularities in question arise from the choice of a non--generic polarization, with respect to which we consider stability, and admit natural symplectic resolutions corresponding to choices of general polarizations. For sheaves that are pure of dimension one, we show that these moduli spaces are, locally around a singular point, isomorphic to a quiver variety and that, via this isomorphism, the natural symplectic resolutions correspond to variations…
Let $M$ be the moduli space of generalized parabolic bundles (GPBs) of rank $r$ and degree $d$ on a smooth curve $X$. Let $M_{\bar L}$ be the closure of its subset consisting of GPBs with fixed determinant ${\bar L}$. We define a moduli functor for which $M_{\bar L}$ is the coarse moduli scheme. Using the correspondence between GPBs on $X$ and torsion-free sheaves on a nodal curve $Y$ of which $X$ is a desingularization, we show that $M_{\bar L}$ can be regarded as the compactified moduli scheme of vector bundles on $Y$ with fixed determinant. We get a natural scheme structure on the closure o…
We prove a global Torelli theorem for the moduli space of marked triples (X,m,A), consisting of an irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifold X, a marking m of its second integral cohomology, and a stable and rigid sheaf A of Azumaya algebras on the cartesian product X^d, d>0, such that the second Chern class of A is invariant under a finite index subgroup of the monodromy group of X. The main example involves the rank 2n-2 sheaf over the cartesian square of holomorphic symplectic manifolds of K3[n]-type considered in the work of the first author arXiv:1105.3223. The result will be used in th…
We study the geometry of some moduli spaces of twisted sheaves on K3 surfaces. In particular we introduce induced automorphisms from a K3 surface on moduli spaces of twisted sheaves on this K3 surface. As an application we prove the unirationality of moduli spaces of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds of $K3^{[2]}$-type admitting non symplectic involutions with invariant lattices $U(2)\oplus D_4(-1)$ or $U(2)\oplus E_8(-2)$. This complements the results obtained in [Mongardi and Wandel 2015], [Bossiere et al 2016], and the results from [arXiv:1603.00403] about the geometry of IHS fou…
Given a finite unbranched covering of a nonsingular projective scheme we analyse the morphism between moduli spaces of sheaves induced by pullback. We have a closer look at cyclic coverings and, in particular, at canonical coverings of surfaces. Our main application is the construction of Lagrangian subvarieties of certain irreducible holomorphically symplectic manifolds that arise from moduli spaces of sheaves on K3 or abelian surfaces.
In this paper, we show that the Galois representations provided by $\ell$-adic cohomology of proper smooth varieties, and more generally by $\ell$-adic intersection cohomology of proper varieties, over any field, are orthogonal or symplectic according to the degree. We deduce this from a preservation result of orthogonal and symplectic pure perverse sheaves by proper direct image. We show moreover that the subgroup of the Grothendieck group generated by orthogonal pure perverse sheaves of even weights and symplectic pure perverse sheaves of odd weights are preserved by Grothendieck's six opera…
In this paper we prove first a general theorem on semiorthogonal decompositions in derived categories of coherent sheaves for flat families over a smooth base. Based on the results of math.AG/0510670, we then show that the derived categories of coherent sheaves on flag varieties of classical type are generated by complete exceptional collections. Finally, we find complete exceptional collections in the derived categories of some homogeneous spaces of the symplectic groups of small rank.
