Several situations are known when a holomorphic 2-form on a moduli space of sheaves over some base S is induced by a holomorphic 2-form on S. Moreover, the closedness of the 2-form on the base implies the closedness on the moduli space, which provides a stock of symplectic structures on moduli spaces (Mukai, Kobayashi, O'Grady, Tyurin, Huybrechts--Lehn). A parallel theory was developed for bivector fields and Poisson structures (Bottacin).
However, there exist symplectic moduli spaces of sheaves over bases that have no holomorphic forms at all. A well-known example (Beauville--Donagi) is the family of lines on the cubic 4-fold Y, which can be thought of as the moduli space parameterizing the structure sheaves of lines in Y.
The paper produces a general construction of closed 2-forms on the moduli spaces of sheaves, using the Atiyah class of the sheaves, and proves that this construction provides symplectic structures in 2 examples: the first one is the family of lines on Y, and the second one is the moduli space of sheaves which are supported on the hyperplane sections of Y and are cokernels of the Pfaffian representations of those hyperplane sections.
We prove an Atiyah-Segal isomorphism for the higher $K$-theory of coherent sheaves on quotient Deligne-Mumford stacks over $\C$. As an application, we prove the Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch theorem for such stacks. This theorem establishes an isomorphism between the higher $K$-theory of coherent sheaves on a Deligne-Mumford stack and the higher Chow groups of its inertia stack. Furthermore, this isomorphism is covariant for proper maps between Deligne-Mumford stacks.
We develop a formalism involving Atiyah classes of sheaves on a smooth manifold, Hochschild chain and cochain complexes. As an application we prove a version of the Riemann--Roch theorem.
We study the mirror operation of the Atiyah flop in symplectic geometry. We formulate the operation for a symplectic manifold with a Lagrangian fibration. Furthermore we construct geometric stability conditions on the derived Fukaya category of the deformed conifold and study the action of the mirror Atiyah flop on these stability conditions.
We consider a relative Fourier-Mukai transform defined on elliptic fibrations over an arbitrary normal base scheme. This is used to construct relative Atiyah sheaves and generalize Atiyah's and Tu's results about semistable sheaves over elliptic curves to the case of elliptic fibrations. Moreover we show that this transform preserves relative (semi)stability of sheaves of positive relative degree.
We view the moduli space of semistable sheaves on a K3 surface as a global quotient stack, and compute its cotangent complex in terms of the universal sheaf on the Quot scheme. Relevant facts on the classical and reduced Atiyah classes are reviewed. We also define the notion of a symplectic stack, and show that it includes all moduli stacks of semistable sheaves on K3 surfaces.
We provide generalizations of the notions of Atiyah class and Kodaira-Spencer map to the case of framed sheaves. Moreover, we construct closed two-forms on the moduli spaces of framed sheaves on surfaces. As an application, we define a symplectic structure on the moduli spaces of framed sheaves on some birationally ruled surfaces.
We show that the space of first-order deformations of an orthogonal (resp. symplectic) sheaf over a smooth projective scheme is the first hypercohomology space of a complex which is naturally constructed out of the orthogonal (resp. symplectic) sheaf. We also provide an obstruction theory of these objects whose target is the second hypercohomology space of this complex.
We discuss Donaldson-Thomas (DT) invariants of torsion sheaves with 2 dimensional support on a smooth projective surface in an ambient non-compact Calabi Yau fourfold given by the total space of a rank 2 bundle on the surface. We prove that in certain cases, when the rank 2 bundle is chosen appropriately, the universal truncated Atiyah class of these codimension 2 sheaves reduces to one, defined over the moduli space of such sheaves realized as torsion codimension 1 sheaves in a noncompact divisor (threefold) embedded in the ambient fourfold. Such reduction property of universal Atiyah class e…
We show that the moduli spaces of sheaves on a projective K3 surface are irreducible symplectic varieties, and that the same holds for the fibers of the Albanese map of moduli spaces of sheaves on an Abelian surface.
Let G be a reductive groups over an algebraically closed field k. Let P^{(i)} be associated parabolic subgroups, and X^{(i)}:=T^*G/P^i. The bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves on X^{(i)} are equivalent, but there is no canonical equivalence. By refining a construction from a previous paper, we construct a local system of categories over a topological space V^0_C, where these categories are assigned to different points in V^0_C. Natural equivalence functors between these categories are parameterized by homotopy classes of paths between the corresponding points.
A 10-dimensional symplectic moduli space of torsion sheaves on the cubic 4-fold is constructed. It parametrizes the stable rank 2 vector bundles on the hypeplane sections of the cubic 4-fold which are obtained by Serre's construction from normal elliptic quintics. The natural projection to the dual projective 5-space parametrizing the hyperplane sections is a Lagrangian fibration. The symplectic structure is closely related (and conjecturally, is equal) to the quasi-symplectic one, induced by the Yoneda pairing on the moduli space.
A framed symplectic sheaf on a smooth projective surface $X$ is a torsion-free sheaf $E$ together with a trivialization on a divisor $D\subseteq X$ and a morphism $Λ^{2}E\rightarrow\mathcal{O}_{X}$ satisfying some additional conditions. We construct a moduli space for framed symplectic sheaves on a surface, and present a detailed study for $X=\mathbb{P}_{\mathbb{C}}^{2}$. In this case, the moduli space is irreducible and admits an ADHM-type description and a birational proper map into the space of framed symplectic ideal instantons.
Let $X$ be a projective K3 surface with generic polarization $\cO_X(1)$ and let $M_c=M(2,0,c)$ be the moduli space of semistable torsion-free sheaves on $X$ of rank 2, with Chern classes $c_1=0$ and $c_2=c$. When $c=2n\ge 4$ is even, $M_c$ is a singular projective variety. We show that there is no symplectic desingularization of $M_{2n}$ if $\frac{n a_n}{2n-3}$ is not an integer where $a_n$ is the Euler number of the Hilbert scheme $X^{[n]}$ of $n$ points in $X$.
The $\otimes^\star$-monoidal structure on the category of sheaves on the $\mathrm{Ran}$ space is not pro-nilpotent in the sense of Francis-Gaitsgory. However, under some connectivity assumptions, we prove that Koszul duality induces an equivalence of categories and that this equivalence behaves nicely with respect to Verdier duality on the $\mathrm{Ran}$ space and integrating along the $\mathrm{Ran}$ space, i.e. taking factorization homology. Based on ideas sketched by Gaitsgory, we show that these results also offer a simpler alternative to one of the two main steps in the proof of the Atiyah…
Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>>0. Let $X\rightarrow Y$ be a symplectic resolution. There are two questions which motivates this work. One question is a construction of an action of a group on the category $\mathcal{C}:=D^b(Coh(X))$ - The bounded derived category of coherent sheaves of the symplectic resolution X. Second question is understanding equivalence functors between derived categories of coherent sheaves for different symplectic resolutions of Y. Let G/k be a reductive group. In this paper, we construct a local system on a topological space called $V^0_{\ma…
We study intersections of complex Lagrangian in complex symplectic manifolds, proving two main results. First, we construct global canonical perverse sheaves on complex Lagrangian intersections in complex symplectic manifolds for any pair of {\it oriented} Lagrangian submanifolds in the complex analytic topology. Our method uses classical results in complex symplectic geometry and some results from arXiv:1304.4508. The algebraic version of our result has already been obtained by the author et al. in arXiv:1211.3259 using different methods, where we used, in particular, the recent new theory of…
In preprint alg-geom/9708009 we have constructed a (ten-dimensional) symplectic desingularization of the moduli space of rank-two torsion-free semistable sheaves on a $K3$, with trivial determinant and second Chern class equal to 4. In the present paper we prove that (every deformation of) this desingularization is a new irreducible symplectic variety. More precisely we show that the desingularization is irreducible symplectic, and that its second Betti number is at least 24.
In this paper we define and study generalized Atiyah classes for quasi coherent sheaves relative to arbitrary morphisms of schemes. We use derivations and quasi coherent sheaves of left and right O-modules to define a generalized first order jet bundle J(E) and a generalized Atiyah sequence for E. The generalized jet bundle J(E) is a left and right module over a sheaf J of associative rings on X. The sheaf J is an extension of O with a sheaf I of two sided ideals of square zero. The Atiyah sequence gives rise to a generalized Atiyah class c(E) with the property that c(E)=0 if and only if the l…
Inspired by symplectic geometry and a microlocal characterizations of perverse (constructible) sheaves we consider an alternative definition of perverse coherent sheaves. We show that a coherent sheaf is perverse if and only if $RΓ_Z(\mathcal{F})$ is concentrated in degree 0 for special subvarieties Z of X. These subvarieties Z are analogs of Lagrangians in the symplectic case.
We investigate the moduli spaces of one- and two-dimensional sheaves on projective K3 and abelian surfaces that are semistable with respect to a nongeneral ample divisor with regard to the symplectic resolvability. We can exclude the existence of new examples of projective irreducible symplectic manifolds lying birationally over components of the moduli spaces of one-dimensional semistable sheaves on K3 surfaces, and over components of many of the moduli spaces of two-dimensional sheaves on K3 surfaces, in particular, of those for rank two sheaves.
We study the equivariant sheaf counting theory on K3 surfaces with finite group actions. Let $\sS=[S/G]$ be a global quotient stack, where $S$ is a K3 surface and $G$ is a finite group acting as symplectic homomorphisms on $S$. We show that the Joyce invariants counting Gieseker semistable sheaves on $\sS$ are independent on the Bridgeland stability conditions. As an application we prove the multiple cover formula of Y. Toda for the counting invariants for semistable sheaves on local K3 surfaces with a symplectic finite group action.
Let M be a moduli space of stable sheaves on a K3 or Abelian surface S. We express the class of the diagonal in the cartesian square of M in terms of the Chern classes of a universal sheaf. Consequently, we obtain generators of the cohomology ring of M. When S is a K3 and M is the Hilbert scheme of length n subschemes, this set of generators is sufficiently small in the sense that there aren't any relations among them in the stable cohomology ring. When S is the cotangent bundle of a Riemann surface, we recover the result of T. Hausel and M. Thaddeus: The cohomology ring of the moduli spaces o…
We regard the pre-hyperkähler structure on the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves $\mathcal{F}(1,3,1)$ on the projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$ via an adaptation of the ADHM construction of framed sheaves. Then, we study and categorize the degenerate points of the holomorphic pre-symplectic form presented in the moduli space.
We use a complex version of the celebrated Atiyah-Hitchin-Drinfeld-Manin matrix equations to construct admissible torsion-free sheaves on $\p^3$ and complex quantum instantons over our quantum Minkowski space-time. We identify the moduli spaces of various subclasses of sheaves on $\p^3$, and prove their smoothness. We also define the Laplace equation in the quantum Minkowski space-time, study its solutions and relate them to the admissibility condition for sheaves on $\p^3$.
We use twisted Fourier-Mukai transforms to study the relation between an abelian fibration on a holomorphic symplectic manifold and its dual fibration. Our reasoning leads to an equivalence between the derived category of coherent sheaves on one space and the derived category of twisted sheaves on the other space.
Let $M_c=M(2,0,c)$ be the moduli space of O(1)-semistable rank 2 torsion-free sheaves with Chern classes $c_1=0$ and $c_2=c$ on a K3 surface $X$ where O(1) is a generic ample line bundle on $X$. When $c=2n\geq4$ is even, $M_c$ is a singular projective variety equipped with a symplectic structure on the smooth locus. In this paper, we show that there is no crepant resolution of $M_{2n}$ for $n\geq 3$. This implies that there is no symplectic desingularization.
Let J be an abelian surface with a generic ample line bundle O(1). For n>0, the moduli space M(2, 0, 2n) of O(1)-semistable sheaves F of rank 2 with Chern classes c_1(F) = 0, c_2(F) = 2n is a singular projective variety, endowed with a holomorphic symplectic structure on the smooth locus. In this paper, we show that there does not exist a crepant resolution of M(2; 0; 2n) for n>1. This certainly implies that there is no symplectic desingularization of M(2, 0, 2n) for n>1.
Let $V$ be a finite-dimensional symplectic vector space over a field of characteristic 0, and let $G \subset Sp(V)$ be a finite subgroup. We prove that for any crepant resolution $X \to V/G$, the bounded derived category $D^b(Coh(X))$ of coherent sheaves on $X$ is equivalent to the bounded derived category $D^b_G(Coh(V))$ of $G$-equivariant coherent sheaves on $V$.
We apply the methods of C{ă}ld{ă}raru to construct a twisted Fourier-Mukai transform between a pair of holomorphic symplectic four-folds. More precisely, we obtain an equivalence between the derived category of coherent sheaves on a certain four-fold and the derived category of twisted sheaves on its `mirror' partner. As corollaries, we show that the two spaces are connected by a one-parameter family of deformations through Lagrangian fibrations, and we extend the original Fourier-Mukai transform to degenerations of abelian surfaces.
Results on stability of tautological sheaves on Hilbert schemes of points are extended to higher dimensions and transferred to abelian surfaces and to the restriction of tautological sheaves to generalised Kummer varieties. This provides a big class of new examples of stable sheaves on higher dimensional irreducible symplectic manifolds. Some aspects of deformations of tautological sheaves are studied.
Components of the Moduli space of sheaves on a K3 surface are parametrized by a lattice; the (algebraic) Mukai lattice. Isometries of the Mukai lattice often lift to symplectic birational isomorphisms of the collection of components. An example of such a birational isomorphism is the Abel-Jacobi map relating the Hilbert scheme of g points on a K3 of degree 2g-2 to an integrable system: the union of Jacobians of hyperplane sections (curves) of genus g. The main results are: 1) We construct a stratified version of a Mukai elementary transformation modeled after dual pairs of Springer resolutions…
Moduli spaces of stably irreducible sheaves on Kodaira surfaces belong to the short list of examples of smooth and compact holomorphic symplectic manifolds, and it is not yet known how they fit into the classification of holomorphic symplectic manifolds by deformation type. This paper studies a natural Lagrangian fibration on these moduli spaces to determine that they are not Kähler or simply connected, ruling out most of the known deformation types of holomorphic symplectic manifolds.
We study the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves on the projective plane via an adaptation of the ADHM construction of framed sheaves. In particular, we prove that, for certain values of the topological invariants, the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves is an irreducible, nonsingular variety carrying a holomorphic pre-symplectic form.
Moduli spaces of semistable torsion-free sheaves on a K3 surface $X$ are often holomorphic symplectic varieties, deformation equivalent to a Hilbert scheme parametrizing zero-dimensional subschemes of $X$. In fact this should hold whenever semistability is equivalent to stability. In this paper we study a typical "opposite" case, i.e. the moduli space $M_c$ of semistable rank-two torsion-free sheaves on $X$ with trivial determinant and second Chern class equal to an even number $c$. The moduli space $M_c$ always contains points corresponding to strictly semistable sheaves. If $c$ is at least 4…
The aim of this paper is to study the singularities of certain moduli spaces of sheaves on K3 surfaces by means of Nakajima quiver varieties. The singularities in question arise from the choice of a non--generic polarization, with respect to which we consider stability, and admit natural symplectic resolutions corresponding to choices of general polarizations. For sheaves that are pure of dimension one, we show that these moduli spaces are, locally around a singular point, isomorphic to a quiver variety and that, via this isomorphism, the natural symplectic resolutions correspond to variations…
We prove a global Torelli theorem for the moduli space of marked triples (X,m,A), consisting of an irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifold X, a marking m of its second integral cohomology, and a stable and rigid sheaf A of Azumaya algebras on the cartesian product X^d, d>0, such that the second Chern class of A is invariant under a finite index subgroup of the monodromy group of X. The main example involves the rank 2n-2 sheaf over the cartesian square of holomorphic symplectic manifolds of K3[n]-type considered in the work of the first author arXiv:1105.3223. The result will be used in th…
We study the geometry of some moduli spaces of twisted sheaves on K3 surfaces. In particular we introduce induced automorphisms from a K3 surface on moduli spaces of twisted sheaves on this K3 surface. As an application we prove the unirationality of moduli spaces of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds of $K3^{[2]}$-type admitting non symplectic involutions with invariant lattices $U(2)\oplus D_4(-1)$ or $U(2)\oplus E_8(-2)$. This complements the results obtained in [Mongardi and Wandel 2015], [Bossiere et al 2016], and the results from [arXiv:1603.00403] about the geometry of IHS fou…
This paper deals with symplectic varieties which do not have symplectic resolutions. Some moduli spaces of semi-stable torsion-free sheaves on a K3 surface, and symplectic V-manifolds are such varieties. We shall prove local Torelli theorem for symplectic varieties. Some results on symplectic singularities are also included.
Given a finite unbranched covering of a nonsingular projective scheme we analyse the morphism between moduli spaces of sheaves induced by pullback. We have a closer look at cyclic coverings and, in particular, at canonical coverings of surfaces. Our main application is the construction of Lagrangian subvarieties of certain irreducible holomorphically symplectic manifolds that arise from moduli spaces of sheaves on K3 or abelian surfaces.
In this paper, we show that the Galois representations provided by $\ell$-adic cohomology of proper smooth varieties, and more generally by $\ell$-adic intersection cohomology of proper varieties, over any field, are orthogonal or symplectic according to the degree. We deduce this from a preservation result of orthogonal and symplectic pure perverse sheaves by proper direct image. We show moreover that the subgroup of the Grothendieck group generated by orthogonal pure perverse sheaves of even weights and symplectic pure perverse sheaves of odd weights are preserved by Grothendieck's six opera…
In this paper we prove first a general theorem on semiorthogonal decompositions in derived categories of coherent sheaves for flat families over a smooth base. Based on the results of math.AG/0510670, we then show that the derived categories of coherent sheaves on flag varieties of classical type are generated by complete exceptional collections. Finally, we find complete exceptional collections in the derived categories of some homogeneous spaces of the symplectic groups of small rank.
In this paper, we consider moduli spaces of stable sheaves on abelian surfaces. Our main assumption is the primitivity of the associated Mukai vector. We construct many isomorphisms of muduli spaces induced by Fourier-Mukai functor. As an application, we show that deformation type of these spaces are determined by their dimension. We next show that the fiber of the albanese map is irreducible symplectic manifolds In particular, we describe the period by using Mukai lattice. We also discuss deformation type of moduli spaces of stable sheaves on K3 surfaces.
For an abelian or a projective K3 surface $X$ over an algebraically closed field $k$, consider the moduli space $\splcpx_{X/k}\uet$ of the objects $E$ in $D^b(\mathrm{Coh}(X))$ satisfying $\Ext^{-1}_X(E,E)=0$ and $\Hom(E,E)\cong k$. Then we can prove that $\splcpx_{X/k}\uet$ is smooth and has a symplectic structure.
In this survey article we describe moduli spaces of simple, stable, and semistable sheaves on K3 surfaces, following the work of Mukai, O'Grady, Huybrechts, Yoshioka, and others. We also describe some recent developments, including applications to the study of Chow rings of K3 surfaces, determination of the ample and nef cones of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds, and moduli spaces of Bridgeland stable complexes of sheaves.
