In this paper an explicit formula is given for a sequence of numbers. The positivity of this sequence of numbers implies that zeros in the critical strip of the Euler product of
Hecke polynomials, which are associated with the space of cusp forms of weight $k$ for Hecke congruence subgroups, lie on the critical line.
In this article, we present a generalized Hecke's integral formula for an arbitrary extension $E/F$ of number fields. As an application, we present relative versions of the residue formula and Kronecker's limit formula for the "relative" partial zeta function of $E/F$. This gives a simultaneous generalization of two different known results given by Hecke himself and Yamamoto.
We obtain an explicit formula for the spherical image of the polynomial fraction conjectured by Shimura in 1963 for generating Hecke series in particular case of genus 4. As in our previous work we used the Satake spherical map for ${\rm Sp}_4$ and formulas by Andrianov. Key words: Hecke operators, Dirichlet series, Euler factorization, spherical map.
We develop explicit formulas for Hecke operators of higher genus in terms of spherical coordinates. Applications are given to summation of various generating series with coefficients in local Hecke algebra and in a tensor product of such algebras. In particular, we formulate and prove Rankin's lemma in genus two. An application to a lifting from (GSp2 \times GSp2) to GSp4 is given using Ikeda-Miyawaki constructions.
We obtain a closed form polynomial expression for certain coefficients of Drinfeld-Goss double-cuspidal modular forms which are eigenforms for the degree one Hecke operators with power eigenvalues, and we use those formulas to prove vanishing results for an infinite family of those coefficients.
We give an adelic treatment of the Kuznetsov trace formula as a relative trace formula on GL(2) over Q. The result is a variant which incorporates a Hecke eigenvalue in addition to two Fourier coefficients on the spectral side. We include a proof of a Weil bound for the generalized twisted Kloosterman sums which arise on the geometric side. As an application, we show that the Hecke eigenvalues of Maass forms at a fixed prime, when weighted as in the Kuznetsov formula, become equidistributed relative to the Sato-Tate measure in the limit as the level goes to infinity.
In this paper, for a square-free integer l>1, a even positive integer k and a positive integer N, we give a trace formula of the Hecke operator T(l) on the space S_k^0(N) of all newforms of weight k and level Γ_0(N). Moreover, we give a decomposition S_k^0(N)=\oplus_{i|N}S_k^0(N;i) and also give a trace formula of T(l) on S_k^0(N;i).
In 1997 the author found a criterion for the Riemann hypothesis for the Riemann zeta function, involving the nonnegativity of certain coefficients associated with the Riemann zeta function. In 1999 Bombieri and Lagarias obtained an arithmetic formula for these coefficients using the ``explicit formula'' of prime number theory. In this paper, the author obtains an arithmetic formula for corresponding coefficients associated with the Euler product of Hecke polynomials, which is essentially a product of L-functions attached to weight 2 cusp forms (both newforms and oldforms) over Hecke congruence…
In a previous paper, we obtained a general trace formula for double coset operators acting on modular forms for congruence subgroups, expressed as a sum over conjugacy classes. Here we specialize it to the congruence subgroups $Γ_0(N)$ and $Γ_1(N)$, obtaining explicit formulas in terms of class numbers for the trace of a composition of Hecke and Atkin-Lehner operators. The formulas are among the simplest in the literature, and hold without any restriction on the index of the operators. We give two applications of the trace formula for $Γ_1(N)$: we determine explicit trace forms for $Γ_0(4)$ wi…
We give a new, simple proof of the trace formula for Hecke operators on modular forms for finite index subgroups of the modular group. The proof uses algebraic properties of certain universal Hecke operators acting on period polynomials of modular forms, and it generalizes an approach developed by Don Zagier and the author for the modular group. This approach leads to a very simple formula for the trace on the space of cusp forms plus the trace on the space of modular forms. As applications, we investigate what happens when varying the weight or the level in the trace formula.
We introduce an alternate set of generators for the Hecka algebra, and give an explicit formula for the action of these operators on Fourier coefficients. With this, we compute the eigenvalues of Hecke operators acting on average Siegel theta series with half-integral weight (provided the prime associated to the operators does not divide the level of the theta series). Next, we bound the eigenvalues of these operators in terms of bounds on Fourier coefficients. Then we show that the half-integral weight Kitaoka subspace is stable under all Hecke operators. Finally, we observe that an obvious i…
Let K/F be a quadratic extension of number fields. After developing a theory of the Eisenstein series over F, we prove a formula which expresses a partial zeta function of K as a certain integral of the Eisenstein series. As an application, we obtain a limit formula of Kronecker's type which relates the 0-th Laurent coefficients at s=1 of zeta functions of K and F.
Let $N$ and $p$ be primes such that $p$ divides the numerator of $\frac{N-1}{12}$. In this paper, we study the rank $g_p$ of the completion of the Hecke algebra acting on cuspidal modular forms of weight $2$ and level $Γ_0(N)$ at the $p$-maximal Eisenstein ideal. We give in particular an explicit criterion to know if $g_p \geq 3$, thus answering partially a question of Mazur. In order to study $g_p$, we develop the theory of \textit{higher Eisenstein elements}, and compute the first few such elements in four different Hecke modules. This has applications such as generalizations of the Eichler …
We correct a mistake in \cite{St} leading to erroneous formulas in Theorems 5.2 and 5.4. As an immediate corollary of a formula in \cite{BCJ} we give a formula, which relates the Hecke operators $T(p^2)\circ T(p^{2l-2})$, $T(p^{2l})$ and $T(p^{2l-4})$ and comment on it.
By developing a connection between partial theta functions and Appell-Lerch sums, we find and prove a formula which expresses Hecke-type double sums in terms of Appell-Lerch sums and theta functions. Not only does our formula prove classical Hecke-type double sum identities such as those found in work Kac and Peterson on affine Lie Algebras and Hecke modular forms, but once we have the Hecke-type forms for Ramanujan's mock theta functions our formula gives straightforward proofs of many of the classical mock theta function identities. In particular, we obtain a new proof of the mock theta conj…
We formulate some properties of a conjectural object $X_{fun}(r,n)$ parametrizing Anderson t-motives of dimension $n$ and rank $r$. Namely, we give formulas for $\goth p$-Hecke correspondences of $X_{fun}(r,n)$ and its reductions at $\goth p$ (where $\goth p$ is a prime of $\Bbb F_q[θ]$). Also, we describe their geometric interpretation. These results are analogs of the corresponding results of reductions of Shimura varieties. Finally, we give conjectural formulas for Hodge numbers (over the fields generated by Hecke correspondences) of middle cohomology submotives of $X_{fun}(r,n)$.
We present here simple trace formulas for Hecke operators $T_k(p)$ for all $p>3$ on $S_k(Γ_0(3))$ and $S_k(Γ_0(9))$, the spaces of cusp forms of weight $k$ and levels 3 and 9. These formulas can be expressed in terms of special values of Gaussian hypergeometric series and lend themselves to simple recursive expressions in terms of traces of Hecke operators on spaces of lower weight. Along the way, we show how to express the traces of Frobenius of a family of elliptic curves with 3-torsion as special values of a Gaussian hypergeometric series over $\mathbb{F}_q$, when $q\equiv 1 \pmod{3}$. We a…
In this paper, we describe the asymptotic distribution of Hecke eigenvalues in the Laplace eigenvalue aspect for certain families of Hecke-Maass forms on compact arithmetic quotients. Instead of relying on the trace formula, which was the primary tool in preceding studies on the subject, we use Fourier integral operator methods. This allows us to treat not only spherical, but also non-spherical Hecke-Maass forms with corresponding remainder estimates. Our asymptotic formulas are available for arbitrary simple and connected algebraic groups over number fields with cocompact arithmetic subgroups…
We compute the Selberg trace formula for Hecke operators (also called the trace formula for modular correspondences) in the context of cocompact Kleinian groups with finite-dimentional unitary representations. We give some applications to the distribution of Hecke eigenvalues, and give an analogue of Huber's theorem.
We provide formulas for traces of p-th Hecke operators in level 1 in terms of values of finite field 2F1-hypergeometric functions, extending previous work of the author to all odd primes p, instead of only those p=1 (mod 12). We first give a general level 1 trace formula in terms of the trace of Frobenius on a family of elliptic curves, and then we draw on recent work of Lennon to produce level 1 trace formulas in terms of hypergeometric functions for all primes p >3.
We compute the intertwining relation between the Hecke operators and the Siegel lowering operators on Siegel modular forms of arbitrary level $N$ and character $χ$ by using formulas for the action of the Hecke operators on Fourier expansions. Using an explicit description of the Satake compactification of $Γ_0^{(n)}(N) \backslash \mathfrak{H}_n$ when $N$ is squarefree we extend this to give intertwining relations for each cusp. As an application we give formulas for the action of Hecke operators on the space of Klingen--Eisenstein series of squarefree level $N$, for primes $p \nmid N$.
Split-CM points are points of the moduli space h_2/Sp_4(Z) corresponding to products $E \times E'$ of elliptic curves with the same complex multiplication. We prove that the number of split-CM points in a given class of h_2/Sp_4(Z) is related to the coefficients of a weight 3/2 modular form studied by Eichler. The main application of this result is a formula for the central value $L(ψ_N, 1)$ of a certain Hecke L-series. The Hecke character $ψ_N$ is a twist of the canonical Hecke character $ψ$ for the elliptic Q-curve A studied by Gross, and formulas for $L(ψ, 1)$ as well as generalizations wer…
In 1997, Serre proved that the eigenvalues of normalised $p$-th Hecke operator $T^{'}_p$ acting on the space of cusp forms of weight $k$ and level $N$ are equidistributed in $[-2,2]$ with respect to a measure that converge to the Sato-Tate measure, whenever $N+k \to \infty$. In 2009, Murty and Sinha proved the effective version of Serre's theorem. In 2011, using Kuznetsov trace formula, Lau and Wang derived the effective joint distribution of eigenvalues of normalized Hecke operators acting on the space of primitive cusp forms of weight $k$ and level $1$. In this paper, we extend the result of…
As a continuation of previous work, we establish sum expressions for $p$-adic Hecke $L$-functions of totally real fields in the sense of Delbourgo, assuming a totally real analog of Heegner hypothesis. This is done by finding explicit formulas of the periods of the corresponding $p$-adic measures. As an application, we extend the Ferrero-Greenberg formula of derivatives of $p$-adic $L$-functions to this setting.
Let S_{w+2}(Γ_0(N)) be the vector space of cusp forms of weight w+2 on the congruence subgroup Γ_0(N). We first determine explicit formulas for period polynomials of elements in S_{w+2}(Γ_0(N)) by means of Bernoulli polynomials. When N=2, from these explicit formulas we obtain new bases for S_{w+2}(Γ_0(2)), and extend the Eichler-Shimura-Manin isomorphism theorem to Γ_0(2). This implies that there are natural correspondences between the spaces of cusp forms on Γ_0(2) and the spaces of period polynomials. Based on these results, we will find explicit form of Hecke operators on S_{w+2}(Γ_0(2)). …
Let S_{w+2} be the vector space of cusp forms of weight w+2 on the full modular group, and let S_{w+2}^* denote its dual space. Periods of cusp forms can be regarded as elements of S_{w+2}^*. The Eichler-Shimura isomorphism theorem asserts that odd (or even) periods span S_{w+2}^*. However, periods are not linearly independent; in fact, they satisfy the Eichler-Shimura relations. This leads to a natural question: which periods would form a basis of S_{w+2}^*. First we give an answer to this question. Passing to the dual space S_{w+2}, we will determine a new basis for S_{w+2}. The even period …
Let N = 1 mod 4 be the negative of a prime, K=Q(sqrt{N}) and O_K its ring of integers. Let D be a prime ideal in O_K of prime norm congruent to 3 modulo 4. Under these assumptions, there exists Hecke characters $ψ_{\D}$ of K with conductor $(\D)$ and infinite type $(1,0)$. Their L-series L(ψ_\D,s)$ are associated to a CM elliptic curve E(N,\D) defined over the Hilbert class field of $K$. We will prove a Waldspurger-type formula for L(ψ_\D,s) of the form L(ψ_\D,1) = Ω\sum_{[\A],I} r(\D,[\A],I) m_{[\A],I}([\D]) where the sum is over class ideal representatives I of a maximal order in the quatern…
We give a short proof of the trace formula for Hecke operators on modular forms for the modular group, using the action of Hecke operators on the space of period polynomials.
We obtain an asymptotic formula for the fourth moment of central values of a family of quadratic Hecke $L$-functions in the Gaussian field under the generalized Riemann hypothesis (GRH). We also establish lower bounds unconditionally and upper bounds under GRH for higher moments of the same family.
We prove, in standard notation from spectral theory, the asymptotic formula ($B>0$) $$ \sum_{κ_j\le T}α_j H_j(1/2) = ({T\overπ})^2 - BT\log T + O(T(\log T)^{1/2}), $$ by using an approximate functional equation for $H_j(1/2)$ and the Bruggeman--Kuznetsov trace formula. We indicate how the error term may be improved to $O(T(\log T)^ε)$.
In this paper we express the multiple Hecke $L$-function in terms of a linear combination of iterated period integrals associated with elliptic cusp forms, which is introduced by Manin around 2004. This expression generalizes the classical formula of Hecke $L$-function obtained by the Mellin transformation of a cusp form. Also the expression gives a way of the analytic continuation of the multipleHecke $L$-function.
We use a specialization of Ramanujan's ${}_1ψ_1$ summation to give a new proof of a recent formula of Hickerson and Mortenson which expands a special family of Hecke-type double sums in terms of Appell-Lerch sums and theta functions.
We study two aspects of Hecke symmetry in this note: first, we conjecture a generalization of the Ramanujan identities to the case of automorphic forms of Hecke groups; second, we conjecture a generalization of an inversion formula from the theory of elliptic functions.
We introduce a new trace formula of Kuznetsov type involving the central standard L-values and the Whittaker periods of cuspidal automorphic representations of PGL_n(Q) which are spherical at the archimedean place. As an application, we show a simultaneous non-vanishing of standard L-values at n-1 points on the critical strip for infinitely many Hecke-Maass cuspidal newforms.
Let $f_1,...,f_d$ be an orthogonal basis for the space of cusp forms of even weight $2k$ on $Γ_0(N)$. Let $L(f_i,s)$ and $L(f_i,χ,s)$ denote the $L$-function of $f_i$ and its twist by a Dirichlet character $χ$, respectively. In this note, we obtain a ``trace formula'' for the values $L(f_i,χ,m)\overline{L(f_i,n)}$ at integers $m$ and $n$ with $0<m,n<2k$ and proper parity. In the case N=1 or N=2, the formula gives us a convenient way to evaluate precisly the value of the ratio $L(f,χ,m)/L(f,n)$ for a Hecke eigenform $f$.
A well-known observation of Serre and Tate is that the Hecke algebra acts locally nilpotently on modular forms mod 2 on $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$. We give an algorithm for calculating the degree of Hecke nilpotency for cusp forms, and we obtain a formula for the total number of cusp forms mod 2 of any given degree of nilpotency. Using these results, we find that the degrees of Hecke nilpotency in spaces $M_k$ have no limiting distribution as $k \rightarrow \infty$. As an application, we study the parity of the partition function using Hecke nilpotency.
Matrix representations of Hecke operators on classical holomorphical cusp forms and corresponding period polynomials are well known. In this article we define Hecke operators on period functions and show that they correspond to the Hecke operators on Maass cusp forms. Moreover we give an explicite general compatibility criterion for formal sums of matrices to represent Hecke operators ob period functions. An explicite example with only nonnegative entries in the matrices is constructed.
Marvin Knopp developed the theory of automorphic integrals, which generalize automorphic forms; each automorphic integral has an additional period function in its automorphic relation. The period functions satisfy relations that arise from the underlying group relations. Knopp showed that entire automorphic integrals with rational period functions satisfy a Hecke correspondence theorem, provided the rational period functions have poles only at 0 or infinity. For other automorphic integrals each corresponding Dirichlet series has a functional equation with a remainder term that arises from the …
We prove that the fourth moment of holomorphic Hecke cusp forms is bounded provided that the Riemann Hypothesis holds for an appropriate degree 8 L-function. We accomplish this using Watson's formula, which translates the question in hand into a moment problem for L-functions which is amenable to the techniques of Soundararajan and Harper on obtaining sharp bounds for moments of the Riemann zeta function.
We establish a one-to-one correspondence between conjugacy classes of any Hecke group and irreducible systems of poles of rational period functions for automorphic integrals on the same group. We use this correspondence to construct irreducible systems of poles and to count poles. We characterize Hecke-conjugation and Hecke-symmetry for poles of rational period functions in terms of the transpose of matrices in conjugacy classes. We construct new rational period functions and families of rational period functions.
A Hecke action on the space of periods of cusp forms, which is compatible with that on the space of cusp forms, was first computed using continued fraction and an explicit algebraic formula of Hecke operators acting on the space of period functions of modular forms was derived by studying the rational period functions. As an application an elementary proof of the Eichler-Selberg trace formula was derived. Similar modification has been applied to period space of Maass cusp forms with spectral parameter $s$. In this paper we study the space of period functions of Jacobi forms by means of Jacobi …
We study real zeros of a family of quadratic Hecke $L$-functions in the Gaussian field to show that more than twenty percent of the members have no zeros on the interval $(0, 1]$.
We define the class of normalized Shintani L-functions of several variables. Unlike Shintani zeta functions, the normalized Shintani L-function is a holomorphic function. Moreover it satisfies a good functional equation. We show that any Hecke L-function of a totally real field can be expressed as a diagonal part of some normalized Shintani L-function of several variables. This gives a good several variables generalization of a Hecke L-function of a totally real field. This also gives a new proof of the functional equation of the Hecke L-function of a totally real field.
This is basically a summary of [Mu]. The focus of the paper is the explicit computation of Hecke operators for period functions. In particular we compute the matrix representations of the 2nd Hecke operator on period functions for the full modular group $SL(2,Z)$ and the congruence subgroup $Γ_0(2)$. [Mu] Tobias Mühlenbruch.
