Let N = 1 mod 4 be the negative of a prime, K=Q(sqrt{N}) and O_K its ring of integers. Let D be a prime ideal in O_K of prime norm congruent to 3 modulo 4. Under these assumptions, there exists Hecke characters $ψ_{\D}$ of K with conductor $(\D)$ and infinite type $(1,0)$. Their L-series L(ψ_\D,s)$ are associated to a CM elliptic curve E(N,\D) defined over the Hilbert class field of $K$. We will prove a Waldspurger-type formula for L(ψ_\D,s) of the form L(ψ_\D,1) = Ω\sum_{[\A],I} r(\D,[\A],I) m_{[\A],I}([\D]) where the sum is over class ideal representatives I of a maximal order in the quaternion algebra ramified at |N| and infinity and [\A] are class group representatives of $K$. An application of this formula for the case N=-7 will allow us to prove the non-vanishing of a family of L-series of level $7|D|$ over $K$.
We study the first and second mollified moments of central values of a quadratic family of Hecke $L$-functions of prime moduli to show that more than nine percent of the members of this family do not vanish at the central values.
In this paper, we study moments of central values of cubic Hecke $L$-functions in $\mathbb{Q}(i)$, and establish quantitative non-vanishing result for those values.
Let F(z) be a newform of weight 2k and level one with a trivial character, and assume that F(z) is a non-zero eigenform of all Hecke operators. In this paper, we study nonvanishing for central values of twisted modular L-function of F.
We obtain an asymptotic formula for the fourth moment of central values of a family of quadratic Hecke $L$-functions in the Gaussian field under the generalized Riemann hypothesis (GRH). We also establish lower bounds unconditionally and upper bounds under GRH for higher moments of the same family.
Suppose $π_1$ and $π_2$ are two Hecke-Maass cusp forms for $SL(3,\mathbb{Z})$ such that for all primitive character $χ$ we have $$ L(\tfrac{1}{2},π_1\otimesχ)=L(\tfrac{1}{2},π_2\otimesχ). $$ Then we show that $π_1=π_2$.
We evaluate the first three moments of central values of a family of qudratic Hecke $L$-functions in the Gaussian field with power saving error terms. In particular, we obtain asymptotic formulas for the first two moments with error terms of size $O(X^{1/2+\varepsilon})$. We also study the first and second mollified moments of the same family of $L$-functions to show that at least $87.5\%$ of the members of this family have non-vanishing central values.
Split-CM points are points of the moduli space h_2/Sp_4(Z) corresponding to products $E \times E'$ of elliptic curves with the same complex multiplication. We prove that the number of split-CM points in a given class of h_2/Sp_4(Z) is related to the coefficients of a weight 3/2 modular form studied by Eichler. The main application of this result is a formula for the central value $L(ψ_N, 1)$ of a certain Hecke L-series. The Hecke character $ψ_N$ is a twist of the canonical Hecke character $ψ$ for the elliptic Q-curve A studied by Gross, and formulas for $L(ψ, 1)$ as well as generalizations wer…
In this paper, we study moments of central values of certain unitary families of Hecke $L$-functions of the Gaussian field, and establish quantitative non-vanishing result for the central values. We also establish an one level density result for the low-lying zeros of these families of Hecke $L$-functions.
We prove, in standard notation from spectral theory, the asymptotic formula ($B>0$) $$ \sum_{κ_j\le T}α_j H_j(1/2) = ({T\overπ})^2 - BT\log T + O(T(\log T)^{1/2}), $$ by using an approximate functional equation for $H_j(1/2)$ and the Bruggeman--Kuznetsov trace formula. We indicate how the error term may be improved to $O(T(\log T)^ε)$.
In this article, we present a generalized Hecke's integral formula for an arbitrary extension $E/F$ of number fields. As an application, we present relative versions of the residue formula and Kronecker's limit formula for the "relative" partial zeta function of $E/F$. This gives a simultaneous generalization of two different known results given by Hecke himself and Yamamoto.
We study the first moments of central values of Hecke $L$-functions associated with quadratic, cubic and quartic symbols to prime moduli. This also enables us to obtain results on first moments of central values of certain families of cubic and quartic Dirichlet $L$-functions of prime moduli.
In this paper an explicit formula is given for a sequence of numbers. The positivity of this sequence of numbers implies that zeros in the critical strip of the Euler product of Hecke polynomials, which are associated with the space of cusp forms of weight $k$ for Hecke congruence subgroups, lie on the critical line.
We obtain an explicit formula for the spherical image of the polynomial fraction conjectured by Shimura in 1963 for generating Hecke series in particular case of genus 4. As in our previous work we used the Satake spherical map for ${\rm Sp}_4$ and formulas by Andrianov. Key words: Hecke operators, Dirichlet series, Euler factorization, spherical map.
We develop explicit formulas for Hecke operators of higher genus in terms of spherical coordinates. Applications are given to summation of various generating series with coefficients in local Hecke algebra and in a tensor product of such algebras. In particular, we formulate and prove Rankin's lemma in genus two. An application to a lifting from (GSp2 \times GSp2) to GSp4 is given using Ikeda-Miyawaki constructions.
We obtain a closed form polynomial expression for certain coefficients of Drinfeld-Goss double-cuspidal modular forms which are eigenforms for the degree one Hecke operators with power eigenvalues, and we use those formulas to prove vanishing results for an infinite family of those coefficients.
We give an adelic treatment of the Kuznetsov trace formula as a relative trace formula on GL(2) over Q. The result is a variant which incorporates a Hecke eigenvalue in addition to two Fourier coefficients on the spectral side. We include a proof of a Weil bound for the generalized twisted Kloosterman sums which arise on the geometric side. As an application, we show that the Hecke eigenvalues of Maass forms at a fixed prime, when weighted as in the Kuznetsov formula, become equidistributed relative to the Sato-Tate measure in the limit as the level goes to infinity.
In this paper, for a square-free integer l>1, a even positive integer k and a positive integer N, we give a trace formula of the Hecke operator T(l) on the space S_k^0(N) of all newforms of weight k and level Γ_0(N). Moreover, we give a decomposition S_k^0(N)=\oplus_{i|N}S_k^0(N;i) and also give a trace formula of T(l) on S_k^0(N;i).
In 1997 the author found a criterion for the Riemann hypothesis for the Riemann zeta function, involving the nonnegativity of certain coefficients associated with the Riemann zeta function. In 1999 Bombieri and Lagarias obtained an arithmetic formula for these coefficients using the ``explicit formula'' of prime number theory. In this paper, the author obtains an arithmetic formula for corresponding coefficients associated with the Euler product of Hecke polynomials, which is essentially a product of L-functions attached to weight 2 cusp forms (both newforms and oldforms) over Hecke congruence…
In a previous paper, we obtained a general trace formula for double coset operators acting on modular forms for congruence subgroups, expressed as a sum over conjugacy classes. Here we specialize it to the congruence subgroups $Γ_0(N)$ and $Γ_1(N)$, obtaining explicit formulas in terms of class numbers for the trace of a composition of Hecke and Atkin-Lehner operators. The formulas are among the simplest in the literature, and hold without any restriction on the index of the operators. We give two applications of the trace formula for $Γ_1(N)$: we determine explicit trace forms for $Γ_0(4)$ wi…
We give a new, simple proof of the trace formula for Hecke operators on modular forms for finite index subgroups of the modular group. The proof uses algebraic properties of certain universal Hecke operators acting on period polynomials of modular forms, and it generalizes an approach developed by Don Zagier and the author for the modular group. This approach leads to a very simple formula for the trace on the space of cusp forms plus the trace on the space of modular forms. As applications, we investigate what happens when varying the weight or the level in the trace formula.
Upper bound estimates for the exponential sum $$ \sum_{K<κ_j\le K'<2K} α_j H_j^3(1/2) \cos(\k_j\log({4{\rm e}T\over κ_j})) \qquad(T^ε\le K \le T^{1/2-ε}) $$ are considered, where $α_j = |ρ_j(1)|^2(\coshπκ_j)^{-1}$, and $ρ_j(1)$ is the first Fourier coefficient of the Maass wave form corresponding to the eigenvalue $λ_j = κ_j^2 + {1\over4}$ to which the Hecke series $H_j(s)$ is attached. The problem is transformed to the estimation of a classical exponential sum involving the binary additive divisor problem. The analogous exponential sums with $H_j(\hf)$ or $H_j^2(\hf)$ replacing $H_j^3(1/2)$ a…
We introduce an alternate set of generators for the Hecka algebra, and give an explicit formula for the action of these operators on Fourier coefficients. With this, we compute the eigenvalues of Hecke operators acting on average Siegel theta series with half-integral weight (provided the prime associated to the operators does not divide the level of the theta series). Next, we bound the eigenvalues of these operators in terms of bounds on Fourier coefficients. Then we show that the half-integral weight Kitaoka subspace is stable under all Hecke operators. Finally, we observe that an obvious i…
Let K/F be a quadratic extension of number fields. After developing a theory of the Eisenstein series over F, we prove a formula which expresses a partial zeta function of K as a certain integral of the Eisenstein series. As an application, we obtain a limit formula of Kronecker's type which relates the 0-th Laurent coefficients at s=1 of zeta functions of K and F.
This note corrects a minor misstatement in section 2 of the paper in the title (arXiv:0808.3426). It also addresses some related issues. The error does not affect the main results of that paper, but nevertheless this corrigendum seems necessary to avoid potential confusion.
Let $N$ and $p$ be primes such that $p$ divides the numerator of $\frac{N-1}{12}$. In this paper, we study the rank $g_p$ of the completion of the Hecke algebra acting on cuspidal modular forms of weight $2$ and level $Γ_0(N)$ at the $p$-maximal Eisenstein ideal. We give in particular an explicit criterion to know if $g_p \geq 3$, thus answering partially a question of Mazur. In order to study $g_p$, we develop the theory of \textit{higher Eisenstein elements}, and compute the first few such elements in four different Hecke modules. This has applications such as generalizations of the Eichler …
We correct a mistake in \cite{St} leading to erroneous formulas in Theorems 5.2 and 5.4. As an immediate corollary of a formula in \cite{BCJ} we give a formula, which relates the Hecke operators $T(p^2)\circ T(p^{2l-2})$, $T(p^{2l})$ and $T(p^{2l-4})$ and comment on it.
We address the problem of identifying a Hecke-Maass cusp form $f$ of full level from the central values of the Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions $L(1/2,f\otimes h)$ where $h$ runs through the set of Hecke-Maass eigenforms of full level. We prove a quantitative result in this direction.
By developing a connection between partial theta functions and Appell-Lerch sums, we find and prove a formula which expresses Hecke-type double sums in terms of Appell-Lerch sums and theta functions. Not only does our formula prove classical Hecke-type double sum identities such as those found in work Kac and Peterson on affine Lie Algebras and Hecke modular forms, but once we have the Hecke-type forms for Ramanujan's mock theta functions our formula gives straightforward proofs of many of the classical mock theta function identities. In particular, we obtain a new proof of the mock theta conj…
In this paper, we study the moments of central values of Hecke $L$-functions associated with quadratic characters in $\mathbb{Q}(i)$ and $\mathbb{Q}(ω)$ with $ω= exp(2πi/3)$ and establish some quantitative non-vanishing result for these $L$-values.
Clozel and Labesse proved the base change fundamental lemma for spherical Hecke algebras attached to an unramified group over a p-adic field. This paper proves an analogous fundamental lemma for centers of parahoric Hecke algebras attached to the same class of groups. This provides an ingredient needed for the author's program to study Shimura varieties with parahoric level structure at p.
We formulate some properties of a conjectural object $X_{fun}(r,n)$ parametrizing Anderson t-motives of dimension $n$ and rank $r$. Namely, we give formulas for $\goth p$-Hecke correspondences of $X_{fun}(r,n)$ and its reductions at $\goth p$ (where $\goth p$ is a prime of $\Bbb F_q[θ]$). Also, we describe their geometric interpretation. These results are analogs of the corresponding results of reductions of Shimura varieties. Finally, we give conjectural formulas for Hodge numbers (over the fields generated by Hecke correspondences) of middle cohomology submotives of $X_{fun}(r,n)$.
Let $G$ be a split connected reductive group over a finite field of characteristic $p > 2$ such that $G_\text{der}$ is absolutely almost simple. We give a geometric construction of perverse $\mathbb{F}_p$-sheaves on the Iwahori affine flag variety of $G$ which are central with respect to the convolution product. We deduce an explicit formula for an isomorphism from the spherical mod $p$ Hecke algebra to the center of the Iwahori mod $p$ Hecke algebra. We also give a formula for the central integral Bernstein elements in the Iwahori mod $p$ Hecke algebra. To accomplish these goals we construct …
We present here simple trace formulas for Hecke operators $T_k(p)$ for all $p>3$ on $S_k(Γ_0(3))$ and $S_k(Γ_0(9))$, the spaces of cusp forms of weight $k$ and levels 3 and 9. These formulas can be expressed in terms of special values of Gaussian hypergeometric series and lend themselves to simple recursive expressions in terms of traces of Hecke operators on spaces of lower weight. Along the way, we show how to express the traces of Frobenius of a family of elliptic curves with 3-torsion as special values of a Gaussian hypergeometric series over $\mathbb{F}_q$, when $q\equiv 1 \pmod{3}$. We a…
In the early 1980s, Rohrlich began a study of canonical Hecke characters, which are closely related to the simplest examples of CM elliptic curves. He and Montgomery showed the non-vanishing of the central value when the L-function has an even functional equation, and we now show the non-vanishing of the central derivative when the functional equation is odd. Using the results of Gross-Zagier and Kolyvagin-Logachev, we can apply the non-vanishing to the ranks and Shafarevitch-Tate groups of the Q-curves "A(p)" studied by Gross in his thesis. In particular, their rank is determined by a congrue…
We introduce a new trace formula of Kuznetsov type involving the central standard L-values and the Whittaker periods of cuspidal automorphic representations of PGL_n(Q) which are spherical at the archimedean place. As an application, we show a simultaneous non-vanishing of standard L-values at n-1 points on the critical strip for infinitely many Hecke-Maass cuspidal newforms.
Since the study by Jacobi and Hecke, Hecke-type series have received a lot of attention. Unlike such series associated with indefinite quadratic forms, identities on Hecke-type series associated with definite quadratic forms are quite rare in the literature. Motivated by the works of Liu, we first establish many parameterized identities with two parameters by employing different $q$-transformation formulas and then deduce various Hecke-type identities associated with definite quadratic forms by specializing the choice of these two parameters. As applications, we utilize some of these Hecke-typ…
In this paper, we describe the asymptotic distribution of Hecke eigenvalues in the Laplace eigenvalue aspect for certain families of Hecke-Maass forms on compact arithmetic quotients. Instead of relying on the trace formula, which was the primary tool in preceding studies on the subject, we use Fourier integral operator methods. This allows us to treat not only spherical, but also non-spherical Hecke-Maass forms with corresponding remainder estimates. Our asymptotic formulas are available for arbitrary simple and connected algebraic groups over number fields with cocompact arithmetic subgroups…
In this paper, we evaluate explicitly certain quadratic Hecke Gauss sums of $\mathbb{Q}(ω), ω=\exp \left( \frac {2πi}{3}\right)$. As applications, we study the moments of central values of quadratic Hecke $L$-functions of $\mathbb{Q}(ω)$, and establish quantitative non-vanishing result for the $L$-values. We also establish an one level density result for the low-lying zeros of quadratic Hecke $L$-functions of $\mathbb{Q}(ω)$.
We provide formulas for traces of p-th Hecke operators in level 1 in terms of values of finite field 2F1-hypergeometric functions, extending previous work of the author to all odd primes p, instead of only those p=1 (mod 12). We first give a general level 1 trace formula in terms of the trace of Frobenius on a family of elliptic curves, and then we draw on recent work of Lennon to produce level 1 trace formulas in terms of hypergeometric functions for all primes p >3.
We compute the intertwining relation between the Hecke operators and the Siegel lowering operators on Siegel modular forms of arbitrary level $N$ and character $χ$ by using formulas for the action of the Hecke operators on Fourier expansions. Using an explicit description of the Satake compactification of $Γ_0^{(n)}(N) \backslash \mathfrak{H}_n$ when $N$ is squarefree we extend this to give intertwining relations for each cusp. As an application we give formulas for the action of Hecke operators on the space of Klingen--Eisenstein series of squarefree level $N$, for primes $p \nmid N$.
We study simultaneous non-vanishing of $L(\tfrac{1}{2},\di)$ and $L(\tfrac{1}{2},g\otimes \di)$, when $\di$ runs over an orthogonal basis of the space of Hecke-Maass cusp forms for $SL(3,\mathbb{Z})$ and $g$ is a fixed $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$ Hecke cusp form of weight $k\equiv 0 \pmod 4$.
We compute the Selberg trace formula for Hecke operators (also called the trace formula for modular correspondences) in the context of cocompact Kleinian groups with finite-dimentional unitary representations. We give some applications to the distribution of Hecke eigenvalues, and give an analogue of Huber's theorem.
Fix a Hecke cusp form $f$, and consider the $L$-function of $f$ twisted by a primitive Dirichlet character. As we range over all primitive characters of a large modulus $q$, what is the average behavior of the square of the central value of this $L$-function? Stefanicki proved an asymptotic valid only for $q$ having very few prime factors, and we extend this to almost all $q$.
In 1997, Serre proved that the eigenvalues of normalised $p$-th Hecke operator $T^{'}_p$ acting on the space of cusp forms of weight $k$ and level $N$ are equidistributed in $[-2,2]$ with respect to a measure that converge to the Sato-Tate measure, whenever $N+k \to \infty$. In 2009, Murty and Sinha proved the effective version of Serre's theorem. In 2011, using Kuznetsov trace formula, Lau and Wang derived the effective joint distribution of eigenvalues of normalized Hecke operators acting on the space of primitive cusp forms of weight $k$ and level $1$. In this paper, we extend the result of…
In this paper, we study the one level density of low-lying zeros of a family of quadratic Hecke $L$-functions to prime moduli over the Gaussian field under the generalized Riemann hypothesis (GRH) and the ratios conjecture. As a corollary, we deduce that at least $75 \%$ of the members of this family do not vanish at the central point under GRH.
