For an artinian ring $R$, the directed zero-divisor graph $Γ(R)$ is connected if and only if there is no proper one-sided identity element in $R$. Sinks and sources are characterized and clarified for finite ring $R$, especially, it is proved that for {\it any} ring $R$, if there exists a source $b$ in $Γ(R)$ with $b^2=0$, then $|R|=4$ and $R=\{0,a,b,c\}$, where $a$ and $c$ are left identity elements and $ba=0=bc$. Such a ring $R$ is also the only ring such that $Γ(R) $ has exactly one source. This shows that $Γ(R)$ can not be a network for any ring $R$.
Using the concept of ring of Gelfand range 1 we proved that a commutative Bezout domain is an elementary divisor ring iff it is a ring of Gelfand range 1. Obtained results give a solution of problem of elementary divisor rings for different classes of commutative Bezout domains, in particular, $PM^{*}$, local Gelfand domains and so on.
In this article we revisit a problem regarding Bezout domains, namely, whether every Bezout domain is an elementary divisor domain. We prove that a Bezout domain in which every maximal ideal is principal is an elementary divisor ring
The zero-divisor graph $Γ(R)$ of an associative ring $R$ is the graph whose vertices are all nonzero zero-divisors (one-sided and two-sided) of $R$, and two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are joined by an edge iff either $xy=0$ or $yx=0$. In the present paper, we give a full description of ring varieties where every finite ring is uniquely determined by its zero-divisor graph.

We look at value functions of primes in simple Artinian rings and associate arithmetical pseudo-valuations to Dubrovin valuation rings which, in the Noetherian case, are $\mathbb{Z}$-valued. This allows a divisor theory for bounded Krull domains.
The compressed zero-divisor graph $Γ_C(R)$ associated with a commutative ring $R$ has vertex set equal to the set of equivalence classes $\{ [r] \mid r \in Z(R), r \neq 0 \}$ where $r \sim s$ whenever $ann(r) = ann(s)$. Distinct classes $[r],[s]$ are adjacent in $Γ_C(R)$ if and only if $xy = 0$ for all $x \in [r], y \in [s]$. In this paper, we explore the compressed zero-divisor graph associated with quotient rings of unique factorization domains. Specifically, we prove several theorems which exhibit a method of constructing $Γ(R)$ for when one quotients out by a principal ideal, and prove suf…
This article studies the zero divisor graphs of the ring of Lipschitz integers modulo $n$. In particular we focus on the number of vertices, the diameter and the girth. We also give some results regarding the domination number of these graphs.
Using Composition--Diamond Lemma we construct presentations of groups $G = \langle x_1,\ldots,x_n \, | \, r_1,\ldots, r_m \rangle$ with the following property; for a fixed $1 \le i \le n$, and for all $1 \le j \le m$, Fox derivatives $\partial r_j / \partial x_i$ have common divisor. It follows that if $π_2(K) \ne 0$, where $K$ is the standard $2$-complex associated with $G$ then the group ring $\mathbb{Z}[G]$ has nontrivial zero divisors.
The purpose of this short note is to prove that if $R$ is an alternative ring whose associators are not zero-divisors, then $R$ has no zero divisors. By a result of Bruck and Kleinfeld, if, in addition, the characteristic of $R$ is not $2,$ then the central quotient of $R$ is an octonion division algebra over some field.
The zero-divisor graph of a finite commutative ring with unity is the graph whose vertex set is the set of zero-divisors in the ring, with $a$ and $b$ adjacent if $ab=0$. We show that the class of zero-divisor graphs is universal, in the sense that every finite graph is isomorphic to an induced subgraph of a zero-divisor graph. This remains true for various restricted classes of rings, including boolean rings, products of fields, and local rings. But in more restricted classes, the zero-divisor graphs do not form a universal family. For example, the zero-divisor graph of a local ring whose max…
An element in a ring $R$ is called uniquely weakly nil-clean if every element in $R$ can be uniquely written as a sum or a difference of a nilpotent and an idempotent in the sense of very idempotents. The structure of the ring in which every zero-divisor is uniquely weakly nil-clean is completely determined. We prove that every zero-divisor in a ring $R$ is uniquely weakly nil-clean if and only if $R$ is a D-ring, or $R$ is abelian, periodic, and $R/J(R)$ is isomorphic to a field $F$, ${\Bbb Z}_{3}\oplus {\Bbb Z}_{3}$, ${\Bbb Z}_{3}\oplus B$ where $B$ is Boolean, or a Boolean ring. As a specif…
Let R be an Artinian ring and G be the compressed zero-divisor graph associated to R. The question of when the clique number of compressed zero-divisor graphs is finite was raised by J. Coykendall, S. Sather-Wagstaff, L. Sheppardson, and S. Spiroff, in their survey paper entitled On Zero-divisor Graphs. They proved that if length of R is at most four then the clique number is finite. In the length six case they gave an example of a ring where the clique is infinite. In this paper we show that when length of ring is five then the clique number of compressed zero-divisor graph is finite.
We investigate eigenvalues of the zero-divisor graph $Γ(R)$ of finite commutative rings $R$ and study the interplay between these eigenvalues, the ring-theoretic properties of $R$ and the graph-theoretic properties of $Γ(R)$. The graph $Γ(R)$ is defined as the graph with vertex set consisting of all non-zero zero-divisors of $R$ and adjacent vertices $x,y$ whenever $xy = 0$. We provide formulas for the nullity of $Γ(R)$, i.e. the multiplicity of the eigenvalue 0 of $Γ(R)$. Moreover, we precisely determine the spectra of $Γ(\mathbb Z_p \times \mathbb Z_p \times \mathbb Z_p)$ and $Γ(\mathbb Z_p …
Let $R$ be a ring with unity. The cozero-divisor graph of a ring $R$ is an undirected simple graph whose vertices are the set of all non-zero and non-unit elements of $R$ and two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if and only if $x \notin Ry$ and $y \notin Rx$. The reduced cozero-divisor graph of a ring $R$, is an undirected simple graph whose vertex set is the set of all nontrivial principal ideals of $R$ and two distinct vertices $(a)$ and $(b)$ are adjacent if and only if $(a) \not\subset (b)$ and $(b) \not\subset (a)$. In this paper, we characterize all classes of finite non-local …
Let $R$ be a ring with unity. The cozero-divisor graph of a ring $R$, denoted by $Γ'(R)$, is an undirected simple graph whose vertices are the set of all non-zero and non-unit elements of $R$, and two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if and only if $x \notin Ry$ and $y \notin Rx$. In this article, we extend some of the results of [24] to an arbitrary ring. In this connection, we derive a closed-form formula of the Wiener index of the cozero-divisor graph of a finite commutative ring $R$. As applications, we compute the Wiener index of $Γ'(R)$, when either $R$ is the product of ring o…
We find strong relationships between the zero-divisor graphs of apparently disparate kinds of nilpotent-free semigroups by introducing the notion of an \emph{Armendariz map} between such semigroups, which preserves many graph-theoretic invariants. We use it to give relationships between the zero-divisor graph of a ring, a polynomial ring, and the annihilating-ideal graph. Then we give relationships between the zero-divisor graphs of certain topological spaces (so-called pearled spaces), prime spectra, maximal spectra, tensor-product semigroups, and the semigroup of ideals under addition, obtai…
The paper develops further the theory of quandle rings which was introduced by the authors in a recent work. Orderability of quandles is defined and many interesting examples of orderable quandles are given. It is proved that quandle rings of left or right orderable quandles which are semi-latin have no zero-divisors. Idempotents in quandle rings of certain interesting quandles are computed and used to determine sets of maximal quandles in these rings. Understanding of idempotents is further applied to determine automorphism groups of these quandle rings. Also, commutator width of quandle ring…
In this article, we introduce a new graph theoretic structure associated with a finite commutative ring, called nil clean divisor graph. For a ring $R$, nil clean divisor graph is denoted by $G_N(R)$, where the vertex set is $\{x\in R\,:\, x\neq 0, \,\exists\, y(\neq 0, \neq x)\in R$ such that $xy$ is nil clean$\}$, two vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if $xy$ is a nil clean element. We prove some interesting results of nil clean divisor graph of a ring.
The twisted homogeneous coordinate ring is one of the basic constructions of the noncommutative projective geometry of Artin, Van den Bergh, and others. Chan generalized this construction to the multi-homogeneous case, using a concept of right ampleness for a finite collection of invertible sheaves and automorphisms of a projective scheme. From this he derives that certain multi-homogeneous rings, such as tensor products of twisted homogeneous coordinate rings, are right noetherian. We show that right and left ampleness are equivalent and that there is a simple criterion for such ampleness. Th…
Let $M$ be an $R$-module and $c$ the function from $M$ to the ideals of $R$ defined by $c(x) = \cap \lbrace I \colon I \text{is an ideal of} R \text{and} x \in IM \rbrace $. $M$ is said to be a content $R$-module if $x \in c(x)M $, for all $x \in M$. $B$ is called a content $R$-algebra, if it is a faithfully flat and content $R$-module and it satisfies the Dedekind-Mertens content formula. In this article, we prove some new results for content modules and algebras by using ideal theoretic methods.
We present some new conditions for a B$\acute{e}$zout ring to be an elementary divisor ring. We prove, in this note, that a B$\acute{e}$zout ring $R$ is feckly zero-adequate if and only if $R/J(R)$ is regular if and only if $R/J(R)$ is $π$-regular, and that every feckly zero-adequate ring is an elementary divisor ring. If $R$ has feckly adequate range 1, we prove that $R$ is an elementary divisor ring if and only if $R$ is a B$\acute{e}$zout ring. Many known results are thereby generalized to much wider class of rings, e.g. [4, Theorem 14], [5, Theorem 4], [8, Theorem 1.2.14], [10, Theorem 4] …
This paper presents a Coq formalization of linear algebra over elementary divisor rings, that is, rings where every matrix is equivalent to a matrix in Smith normal form. The main results are the formalization that these rings support essential operations of linear algebra, the classification theorem of finitely presented modules over such rings and the uniqueness of the Smith normal form up to multiplication by units. We present formally verified algorithms computing this normal form on a variety of coefficient structures including Euclidean domains and constructive principal ideal domains. W…
A ring $R$ is an elementary divisor ring if every matrix over $R$ admits a diagonal reduction. We further explore various stable like conditions on a bezout duo-domain under which it is an elementary divisor domain. Many known results are thereby generalized to much wider class of rings.
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with unity not equal to zero and let $Γ(R)$ be a zero-divisor graph realized by $R$. For a simple, undirected, connected graph $G = (V, E)$, a {\it total perfect code} denoted by $C(G)$ in $G$ is a subset $C(G) \subseteq V(G)$ such that $|N(v) \cap C(G)| = 1$ for all $v \in V(G)$, where $N(v)$ denotes the open neighbourhood of a vertex $v$ in $G$. In this paper, we study total perfect codes in graphs which are realized as zero-divisor graphs. We show a zero-divisor graph realized by a local commutative ring with unity admits a total perfect code if and only if the…
In this note we prove the following fact: if finite many elements $p_1,p_2,...,p_n$ of a unique factorization domain are given such that the greatest common divisor of each pair $(p_i,p_j)$ can be expressed as a linear combination of $p_i$ and $p_j$ then the greatest common divisor of all $p_i$s also can be expressed as a linear combination of $p_1,...,p_n$. We prove am analogous statement in commutative rings.
Among the finitely generated modules over a Noetherian ring R, the semidualizing modules have been singled out due to their particularly nice duality properties. When R is a normal domain, we exhibit a natural inclusion of the set of isomorphism classes of semidualizing R-modules into the divisor class group of R. After a description of the basic properties of this inclusion, it is employed to investigate the structure of the set of isomorphism classes of semidualizing R-modules. In particular, this set is described completely for determinantal rings over normal domains.
A commutative ring $R$ is J-stable provided that for any $a\not\in J(R)$, $R/aR$ has stable range one. A ring $R$ is called an elementary divisor ring if every $m\times n$ matrix over $R$ admits diagonal reduction. We prove that a J-stabe ring $R$ is an elementary divisor ring if and only if it is a Bezout ring.
In the noncommutative geometry of Artin, Van den Bergh, and others, the twisted homogeneous coordinate ring is one of the basic constructions. Such a ring is defined by a $σ$-ample divisor, where $σ$ is an automorphism of a projective scheme X. Many open questions regarding $σ$-ample divisors have remained. We derive a relatively simple necessary and sufficient condition for a divisor on X to be $σ$-ample. As a consequence, we show right and left $σ$-ampleness are equivalent and any associated noncommutative homogeneous coordinate ring must be noetherian and have finite, integral GK-dimension.…
We explore elementary matrix reduction over certain rings characterized by their localizations. Let $R$ be a locally stable ring, we prove that $R$ is an elementary divisor ring if and only if $R$ is a Bezout ring. Elementary matrix reduction over some related localizations are also studied. Many known results on domains are thereby extended to general commutative rings which may contain many zero divisors.
In this paper we study zero--divisor graphs of rings and semirings. We show that all zero--divisor graphs of (possibly noncommutative) semirings are connected and have diameter less than or equal to 3. We characterize all acyclic zero-divisor graphs of semirings and prove that in the case zero-divisor graphs are cyclic, their girths are less than or equal to 4. We find all possible cyclic zero-divisor graphs over commutative semirings having at most one 3-cycle, and characterize all complete $k$-partite and regular zero-divisor graphs. Moreover, we characterize all additively cancellative comm…
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with nonzero identity and $I$ a proper ideal of $R$. The {\it ideal-based zero-divisor graph} of $R$ with respect to the ideal $I$, denoted by $Γ_I(R)$, is the graph on vertices $\{x \in R\setminus I \mid xy\in I$ for some $y\in R\setminus I \}$, where distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if and only if $xy\in I$. In this paper, we classify when an ideal-based zero-divisor graph of a commutative ring is complemented or uniquely complemented.
In this paper, we determine bipartite graphs and complete graphs with horns, which are realizable as zero-divisor graphs of po-semirings. As applications, we classify commutative rings $R$ whose annihilating-ideal graph $\mathbb {AG}(R)$ are either bipartite graphs or complete graphs with horns.
The Zero divisor Graph of a commutative ring $R$, denoted by $Γ[R]$, is a graph whose vertices are non-zero zero divisors of $R$ and two vertices are adjacent if their product is zero. Chemical graph theory is a branch of mathematical chemistry which deals with the non-trivial applications of graph theory to solve molecular problems. Graphs containing finite commutative rings also have wide applications in robotics, information and communication theory, elliptical curve and cryptography, physics and statistics. In this paper, we consider the zero divisor graph $Γ[\mathbb{Z}_{p^n}]$ where $p$ i…
Let $R$ be a ring with unity. In this paper, first we study the Laplacian spectrum of $Γ'(\mathbb{Z}_n)$. We show that the graph $Γ'(\mathbb{Z}_{pq})$ is Laplacian integral. Further, we obtain the Laplacian spectrum of $Γ'(\mathbb{Z}_n)$ for $n = p^{n_1}q^{n_2}$, where $n_1, n_2 \in \mathbb{N}$ and $p, q$ are distinct primes. In order t…
The Zero divisor Graph of a commutative ring $R$, denoted by $Γ[R]$, is a graph whose vertices are non-zero zero divisors of $R$ and two vertices are adjacent if their product is zero. We consider the zero divisor graph $Γ[\mathbb{Z}_n]$, for any natural number $n$ and find out which graphs are Eulerian graphs.
In this paper we study sub-semigroups of a zero-divisor semigroup $S$ determined by properties of the zero-divisor graph $Γ(S)$. We use these sub-semigroups to study the correspondence between zero- divisor semigroups and zero-divisor graphs. We study properties of sub- semigroups of Boolean semigroups via the zero-divisor graph. As an application, we provide a characterization of the graphs which are zero- divisor graphs of Boolean rings.
Kaplanski's Zero Divisor Conjecture envisions that for a torsion-free group G and an integral domain R, the group ring R[G] does not contain non-trivial zero divisors. We define the length of an element a in R[G] as the minimal non-negative integer k for which there are ring elements r_1,...,r_k in R and group elements g_1,...,g_k in G such that a = r_1 g_1+...+r_k g_k. We investigate the conjecture when R is the field of rational numbers. By a reduction to the finite field with two elements, we show that if ab = 0 for non-trivial elements in the group ring of a torsion-free group over the rat…
