A formula for the transition density of a Markov process defined by an infinite-dimensional stochastic equation is given in terms of the Ornstein--Uhlenbeck bridge and a useful lower estimate on the density is provided. As a consequence, uniform exponential ergodicity and $V$-ergodicity are proved for a large class of equations. We also provide computable bounds on the convergence rates and the spectral gap for the Markov semigroups defined by the equations. The bounds turn out to be uniform with respect to a large family of nonlinear drift coefficients. Examples of finite-dimensional stochastic equations and semilinear parabolic equations are given.
The paper analyses a model in surface growth, where uniqueness of weak solutions seems to be out of reach. We provide the existence of a weak martingale solution satisfying energy inequalities and having the Markov property. Furthermore, under non-degeneracy conditions on the noise, we establish that any such solution is strong Feller and has a unique invariant measure.
We present a theory of hypoellipticity and unique ergodicity for semilinear parabolic stochastic PDEs with "polynomial" nonlinearities and additive noise, considered as abstract evolution equations in some Hilbert space. It is shown that if Hormander's bracket condition holds at every point of this Hilbert space, then a lower bound on the Malliavin covariance operator $M_t$ can be obtained. Informally, this bound can be read as "Fix any finite-dimensional projection $Π$ on a subspace of sufficiently regular functions. Then the eigenfunctions of $M_t$ with small eigenvalues have only a very sma…
In this paper we study the transition density and exponential ergodicity in total variation for an affine process on the canonical state space $\mathbb{R}_{\geq0}^{m}\times\mathbb{R}^{n}$. Under a Hörmander-type condition for diffusion components as well as a boundary non-attainment assumption, we derive the existence and regularity of the transition density for the affine process and then prove the strong Feller property. Moreover, we also show that under these and the additional subcritical conditions the corresponding affine process on the canonical state space is exponentially ergodic in t…
We study the surface quasi-geostrophic equation with an irregular spatial perturbation $$ \partial_{t }θ+ u\cdot\nablaθ= -ν(-Δ)^{γ/2}θ+ ζ,\qquad u=\nabla^{\perp}(-Δ)^{-1}θ, $$ on $[0,\infty)\times\mathbb{T}^{2}$, with $ν\geq 0$, $γ\in [0,3/2)$ and $ζ\in B^{-2+κ}_{\infty,\infty}(\mathbb{T}^{2})$ for some $κ>0$. This covers the case of $ζ= (-Δ)^{α/2}ξ$ for $α<1$ and $ξ$ a spatial white noise on $\mathbb{T}^{2}$. Depending on the relation between $γ$ and $α$, our setting is subcritical, critical or supercritical in the language of Hairer's regularity structures \cite{Hai14}. Based on purely analy…
We prove existence of invariant measures for the Markovian semigroup generated by the solution to a parabolic semilinear stochastic PDE whose nonlinear drift term satisfies only a kind of symmetry condition on its behavior at infinity, but no restriction on its growth rate is imposed. Thanks to strong integrability properties of invariant measures $μ$, solvability of the associated Kolmogorov equation in $L^1(μ)$ is then established, and the infinitesimal generator of the transition semigroup is identified as the closure of the Kolmogorov operator. A key role is played by a generalized variati…
In this paper we study the jump-diffusion CIR process (shorted as JCIR), which is an extension of the classical CIR model. The jumps of the JCIR are introduced with the help of a pure-jump Lévy process $(J_t, t \ge 0)$. Under some suitable conditions on the Lévy measure of $(J_t, t \ge 0)$, we derive a lower bound for the transition densities of the JCIR process. We also find some sufficient condition guaranteeing the existence of a Forster-Lyapunov function for the JCIR process, which allows us to prove its exponential ergodicity.
In this paper we find the transition densities of the basic affine jump-diffusion (BAJD), which is introduced by Duffie and Garleanu [D. Duffie and N. Garleanu, Risk and valuation of collateralized debt obligations, Financial Analysts Journal 57(1) (2001), pp. 41--59] as an extension of the CIR model with jumps. We prove the positive Harris recurrence and exponential ergodicity of the BAJD. Furthermore we prove that the unique invariant probability measure $π$ of the BAJD is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure and we also derive a closed form formula for the density func…
In this paper, we consider a certain class of second order nonlinear PDEs with damping and space-time white noise forcing, posed on the $d$-dimensional torus. This class includes the wave equation for $d=1$ and the beam equation for $d\le 3$. We show that the Gibbs measure of the equation without forcing and damping is the unique invariant measure for the flow of this system. Since the flow does not satisfy the Strong Feller property, we introduce a new technique for showing unique ergodicity. This approach may be also useful in situations in which finite-time blowup is possible.
In this paper we study the existence of densities for strongly degenerate stochastic differential equations whose coefficients depend on time and are not globally Lipschitz. In these models neither local ellipticity nor the strong Hörmander condition is satisfied. In this general setting we show that continuous transition densities indeed exist in all neighborhoods of points where the weak Hörmander condition is satisfied. We also exhibit regions where these densities remain positive. We then apply these results to stochastic Hodgkin-Huxley models as a first step towards the study of ergodicit…

In this paper we study the existence of densities for strongly degenerate stochastic differential equations (SDEs) whose coefficients depend on time and are not globally Lipschitz. In this general setting we show that continuous transition densities indeed exist in all neighborhoods of points where the weak Hörmander condition is satisfied. We also exhibit regions where these densities remain positive. We then apply these results to stochastic Hodgkin-Huxley models with periodic input as a first step tow…
In this paper, we study the existence of densities (with respect to the Lebesgue measure) for marginal laws of the solution $(Y,Z)$ to a quadratic growth BSDE. Using the (by now) well-established connection between these equations and their associated semi-linear PDEs, together with the Nourdin-Viens formula, we provide estimates on these densities.
This article is a continuation of our first work \cite{chaudruraynal:frikha}. We here establish some new quantitative estimates for propagation of chaos of non-linear stochastic differential equations in the sense of McKean-Vlasov. We obtain explicit error estimates, at the level of the trajectories, at the level of the semi-group and at the level of the densities, for the mean-field approximation by systems of interacting particles under mild regularity assumptions on the coefficients. A first order expansion for the difference between the densities of one particle and its mean-field limit is…
The numerical solution of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) presents challenges not encountered in the simulation of PDEs or SDEs. Indeed, the roughness of the noise in conjunction with nonlinearities in the drift typically make these equations particularly stiff. In practice, this means that it is tricky to construct, operate, and validate numerical methods for SPDEs. This is especially true if one is interested in path-dependent expected values, long-time simulations, or in the simulation of SPDEs whose solutions have constraints on their domains. To address these numerical is…
We analyze the nonlinear stochastic heat equation driven by heavy-tailed noise in free space and arbitrary dimension. The existence of a solution is proved even if the noise only has moments up to an order strictly smaller than its Blumenthal-Getoor index. In particular, this includes all stable noises with index $α<1+2/d$. Although we cannot show uniqueness, the constructed solution is natural in the sense that it is the limit of the solutions to approximative equations obtained by truncating the big jumps of the noise or by restricting its support to a compact set in space. Under growth cond…
In Hernández-del-Valle (2010) the author studies the connection between Schrödinger's equation and first hitting densities of Brownian motion. Although the author is able to find solutions of a Schrödinger type pde he fails---except in some special cases---to construct a solution which satisfies the boundary on the space variable at $x=0$. In this paper we use an approach used in Bluman and Shtelen (1996) to find solutions which satisfy the pde and boundary condition when $t=0$.
We obtain two-sided bounds for the density of stochastic processes satisfying a weak Hörmander condition. In particular we consider the cases when the support of the density is not the whole space and when the density has various asymptotic regimes depending on the starting/final points considered (which are as well related to the number of brackets needed to span the space in Hörmander's theorem). The proofs of our lower bounds are based on Harnack inequalities for positive solutions of PDEs whereas the upper bounds derive from the probabilistic representation of the density given by the Mall…
We prove that the small scale structures of the stochastically forced Navier-Stokes equations approach those of the naturally associated Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process as the scales get smaller. Precisely, we prove that the rescaled k-th spatial Fourier mode converges weakly on path space to an associated Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process as |k| --> infty . In addition, we prove that the Navier-Stokes equations and the naturally associated Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process induce equivalent transition densities if the viscosity is replaced with sufficient hyperviscosity. This gives a simple proof of unique ergo…
Optimizing over the stationary distribution of stochastic differential equations (SDEs) is computationally challenging. A new forward propagation algorithm has been recently proposed for the online optimization of SDEs. The algorithm solves an SDE, derived using forward differentiation, which provides a stochastic estimate for the gradient. The algorithm continuously updates the SDE model's parameters and the gradient estimate simultaneously. This paper studies the convergence of the forward propagation algorithm for nonlinear dissipative SDEs. We leverage the ergodicity of this class of nonli…
In this work, we prove a version of Hörmander's theorem for a stochastic evolution equation driven by a trace-class fractional Brownian motion with Hurst exponent $\frac{1}{2} < H < 1$ and an analytic semigroup on a given separable Hilbert space. In contrast to the classical finite-dimensional case, the Jacobian operator in typical solutions of parabolic stochastic PDEs is not invertible which causes a severe difficulty in expressing the Malliavin matrix in terms of an adapted process. Under a Hörmander's bracket condition and some algebraic constraints on the vector fields combined with the r…
We introduce a discrete time microscopic single particle model for kinetic transport. The kinetics is modeled by a two-state Markov chain, the transport by deterministic advection plus a random space step. The position of the particle after $n$ time steps is given by a random sum of space steps, where the size of the sum is given by a Markov binomial distribution (MBD). We prove that by letting the length of the time steps and the intensity of the switching between states tend to zero linearly, we obtain a random variable $S(t)$, which is closely connected to a well known (deterministic) PDE r…
Our simple but useful technique is using an integration by parts to split the stochastic convolution into two terms. We develop five applications for this technique. The first one is getting a uniform estimate of stochastic convolution of $α$-stable processes. Since $α$-stable noises only have $p<α$ moment, unlike the stochastic convolution of Wiener process, the well known Da Prato-Kwapień-Zabczyk's factorization ([5]) is not applicable. Alternatively, combining this technique with Doob's martingale inequality, we obtain a uniform estimate similar to that of stochastic convolution of Wiener p…
Let $(U_t)_{t \geq 0}$ be a Brownian motion valued in the complex projective space $\mathbb{C}P^{N-1}$. Using unitary spherical harmonics of homogeneous degree zero, we derive the densities of $|U_t^{1}|^2$ and of $(|U_t^{1}|^2, |U_t^2|^2)$, and express them through Jacobi polynomials in the simplices of $\mathbb{R}$ and $\mathbb{R}^2$ respectively. More generally, the distribution of $(|U_t^{1}|^2, \dots, |U_t^k|^2), 2 \leq k \leq N-1$ may be derived using the decomposition of the unitary spherical harmonics under the action of the unitary group $\mathcal{U}(N-k+1)$ yet computations become te…
