The main purpose of this paper is to give a general regularity result for Cauchy-Riemann equations in complex Banach spaces with totally real boundary conditions. The usual elliptic $L^p$-regularity results hold true under one crucial assumption: The totally real submanifold has to be modelled on an $L^p$-space or a closed subspace thereof.
Secondly, we describe a class of examples of such totally real submanifolds, namely gauge invariant Lagrangian submanifolds in the space of connections over a Riemann surface. These pose natural boundary conditions for the anti-self-duality equation on 4-manifolds with a boundary space-time splitting, leading towards the definition of a Floer homology for 3-manifolds with boundary, which is the first step in a program by Salamon for the proof of the Atiyah-Floer conjecture. The principal part of such a boundary value problem is an example of a Banach space valued Cauchy-Riemann equation with totally real boundary condition.
For the Cauchy problem for an operator differential equation of the form $y'(z) = Ay(z)$, where $A$ is a closed linear operator on a Banach space over the completion of an algebraic closure of the field of $p$-adic numbers, a criterion of correct solvability in the class of locally analytic vector-functions is established. It is shown how the Cauchy-Kovalevskaya theorem for $p$-adic partial differential equations may be obtained as a particular case from this criterion.
For an operator-differential equation of the form $y^{(m)}(z) = Ay(z)$, where $A$ is a closed linear operator on a Banach space over the the field of $p$-adic numbers, the necessary and sufficient conditions on initial data for the Cauchy problem to be well-posed in the class of locally analytic vector-valued functions are given. The result is illustrated by $p$-adic partial differential equations.
Direct definition of the Cauchy-Jost (known also as Cauchy-Baker-Akhiezer) function in the case of pure solitonic solution is given and properties of this function are discussed in detail using the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili II equation as example. This enables formulation of the Darboux transformations in terms of the Cauchy-Jost function and classification of these transformations. Action of Darboux transformations on Grassmanians-i.e., on the space of soliton parameters-is derived and relation of the Darboux transformations with property of total nonnegativity of elements of corresponding Grass…
This paper investigates the Cauchy problem of the time-space fractional Keller-Segel-Navier- Stokes model, which can describe both memory effect and Lévy process of the system. The local existence and global existence in Lebesgue space are obtained by means of Banach fixed point theorem and Banach implicit function theorem, respectively. In addition, the regularities of local and global mild solutions are improved in fractional homogeneous Sobolev spaces. Furthermore, some properties of mild solutions including mass conservation, decay estimates, stability and self-similarity are established.
In this paper we revisit the mild-solution approach to second-order semi-linear PDEs of Hamilton-Jacobi type in infinite-dimensional spaces. We show that a well-known result on existence of mild solutions in Hilbert spaces can be easily extended to non-autonomous Hamilton-Jacobi equations in Banach spaces. The main tool is the regularizing property of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck transition evolution operators for stochastic Cauchy problems in Banach spaces with time-dependent coefficients
In this paper, the existence, the uniqueness and estimates of solution to the integral Cauchy problem for linear and nonlinear abstract wave equations are proved. The equation includes a linear operator A defined in a Banach space E, in which by choosing E and A we can obtain numerous classis of nonlocal initial value problems for wave equations which occur in a wide variety of physical systems.
Here we utilize operator--valued Lq-Lp Fourier multiplier theorems to establish lower bound estimates for large class of elliptic integro-differential equations in Rd. Moreover, we investigate separability properties of parabolic convolution operator equations that arise in heat conduction problems in materials with fading memory. Finally, we give some remarks on optimal regularity of elliptic differential equations and Cauchy problem for parabolic equations.
To study the existence and uniqueness of solutions to Cauchy-type problems for fractional q-difference equations with the bi-ordinal Hilfer fractional q-derivative which is an extension of the Hilfer fractional q-derivative. An approach is based on the equivalence of the nonlinear Cauchy-type problem with a nonlinear Volterra q-integral equation of the second kind. Applying an analog of Banach fixed point theorem we prove the uniqueness and the existence of the solution. Moreover, we present an explicit solution to the q-analog of the Cauchy problem for the linear case.
We study maximal regularity in interpolation spaces for the sum of three closed linear operators on a Banach space, and we apply the abstract results to obtain Besov and Hölder maximal regularity for complete second order Cauchy problems under natural parabolicity assumptions. We discuss applications to partial differential equations.
We consider the cauchy problem for the fractional power dissipative equation $u_t+(-Δ)^{β/2} u=F(u)$, where $β>0$ and $F(u)=B(u, ...,u)$ and $B$ is a multilinear form on a Banach space $E$. We show a global existence result assuming some properties of scaling degree of the multilinear form and the norm of the space $E$. We extend the ideas used for the treating of the equation to determine the global existence for the system $u_t+(-Δ)^{β/2}= F(v)$, $v_t+(-Δ)^{β/2}v=G(u)$ where $F(u)=B_1(u,...,u), G(v)=B_2(v,...,v)$
A strong inspiration for studying perturbation theory for fractional evolution equations comes from the fact that they have proven to be useful tools in modeling many physical processes. In this paper, we study fractional evolution equations of order $α\in (1,2]$ associated with the infinitesimal generator of an operator fractional cosine function generated by bounded time-dependent perturbations in a Banach space. We show that the abstract fractional Cauchy problem associated with the infinitesimal generator $A$ of a strongly continuous fractional cosine function remains uniformly well-posed …
This paper is concerned with solution in Hölder spaces of the Cauchy problem for linear and semi-linear backward stochastic partial differential equations (BSPDEs) of super-parabolic type. The pair of unknown variables are viewed as deterministic spatial functionals which take values in Banach spaces of random (vector) processes. We define suitable functional Hölder spaces for them and give some inequalities among these Hölder norms. The existence, uniqueness as well as the regularity of solutions are proved for BSPDEs, which contain new assertions even on deterministic PDEs.
We consider toroidal pseudodifferential operators with operator-valued symbols, their mapping properties and the generation of analytic semigroups on vector-valued Besov and Sobolev spaces. We show that a parabolic toroiodal pseudodifferential operator generates an analytic semigroup both on Banach space-valued Besov spaces and on Banach space-valued Sobolev spaces. Here, no condition on the Banach space is imposed. For the proof of the Sobolev space result, we establish a uniform estimate on the kernel which is given as an infinite parameter-dependent sum. An application to abstract non-auton…
The Cauchy problem for a quasilinear system of hyperbolic-parabolic equations is addressed with the method of linearization and fixed point. Coupling between the hyperbolic and parabolic variables is allowed in the linearization and we do not assume the Friedrich's symmetrizability of the system. This coupling results in linear energy estimates that prevent the application of Banach's contraction principle. A metric fixed point theorem is developed in order to conclude the local existence and uniqueness of solutions. We show that the boundedness in the high norm and contraction in the low norm…
In this paper we deal with anomalous diffusions induced by Continuous Time Random Walks - CTRW in $\mathbb{R}^n$. A particle moves in $\mathbb{R}^n$ in such a way that the probability density function $u(\cdot,t)$ of finding it in region $Ω$ of $\mathbb{R}^n$ is given by $\int_Ωu(x,t) dx$. The dynamics of the diffusion is provided by a space time probability density $J(x,t)$ compactly supported in $\{t\geq 0\}$. For $t$ large enough, $u$ must satisfy the equation $u(x,t)=[(J-δ)\ast u](x,t)$ where $δ$ is the Dirac delta in space time. We give a sense to a Cauchy type problem for a given initial…
We derive optimal regularity, in both time and space, for solutions of the Cauchy problem related to a degenerate differential equation in a Banach space X. Our results exhibit a sort of prevalence for space regularity, in the sense that the higher is the order of regularity with respect to space, the lower is the corresponding order of regularity with respect to time.
We study the Cauchy problem for a general homogeneous linear partial differential equation in two complex variables with constant coefficients and with divergent initial data. We state necessary and sufficient conditions for the summability of formal power series solutions in terms of properties of divergent Cauchy data. We consider both the summability in one variable t (with coefficients belonging to some Banach space of Gevrey series with respect to the second variable z) and the summability in two variables (t,z). The results are presented in the general framework of moment-PDEs.
Due to the seminal works of Hochbruck and Ostermann exponential splittings are well established numerical methods utilizing operator semigroup theory for the treatment of semilinear evolution equations whose principal linear part involves a sectorial operator with angle greater than $π/2$ (meaning essentially the holomorphy of the underlying semigroup). The present paper contributes to this subject by relaxing on the sectoriality condition, but in turn requiring that the semigroup operators act consistently on an interpolation couple (or on a scale of Banach spaces). Our conditions (on the sem…
Let $L$ be a homogeneous divergence form higher order elliptic operator with complex bounded measurable coefficients on $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $X$ a ball quasi-Banach function space on $\mathbb{R}^n$ satisfying some mild assumptions. Denote by $H_{X,\, L}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ the Hardy space, associated with both $L$ and $X$, which is defined via the Lusin area function related to the semigroup generated by $L$. In this article, the authors establish both the maximal function and the Riesz transform characterizations of $H_{X,\, L}(\mathbb{R}^n)$. The results obtained in this article have a wide range o…
The non autonomous Cauchy problem for time dependent 1D point interactions is considered. The regularity assumptions for the coupling parameter are accurately analyzed and show that the general results for non autonomous linear evolution equations in Banach spaces are far from being optimal. In the mean time, this article shows an unexpected application of paraproduct techniques, initiated by J.M. Bony for nonlinear partial differential equations, to a classical linear problem.
For the famous Camassa-Holm equation, the well-posedness in $B^{1+\frac{1}{p}}_{p,1}(\mathbb{R})$ with $ p\in [1,\infty)$ and the ill-posedness in $B^{1+\frac{1}{p}}_{p,r}(\mathbb{R})$ with $ p\in [1,\infty],\ r\in (1,\infty]$ had been studied in \cite{d1,d2,glmy,yyg}, that is to say, it only left an open problem in the critical case $B^{1}_{\infty,1}(\mathbb{R})$ proposed by Danchin in \cite{d1,d2}. In this paper, we solve this problem by proving the norm inflation and hence the ill-posedness for the Camassa-Holm equation in $B^{1}_{\infty,1}(\mathbb{R})$. Therefore, the well-posedness and il…
We consider a continuous family of linear elliptic differential operators of arbitrary order over a smooth compact manifold with boundary. Assuming constant dimension of the spaces of inner solutions, we prove that the orthogonalized Calderón projections of the underlying family of elliptic operators form a continuous family of projections. Hence, its images (the Cauchy data spaces) form a continuous family of closed subspaces in the relevant Sobolev spaces. We use only elementary tools and classical results: basic manipulations of operator graphs and other closed subspaces in Banach spaces; e…
The Boltzmann equation is studied without the cutoff assumption. Under a perturbative setting, a unique global solution of the Cauchy problem of the equation is established in a critical Chemin-Lerner space. In order to analyse the collisional term of the equation, a Chemin-Lerner norm is combined with a non-isotropic norm with respect to a velocity variable, which yields an apriori estimate for an energy estimate. Together with local existence following from commutator estimates and the Hahn-Banach extension theorem, the desired solution is obtained. Also, the non-negativity of the solution i…
We prove estimates for solutions of the Cauchy problem for the inhomogeneous wave equation on $\R^{1+n}$ in a class of Banach spaces whose norms only depend on the size of the space-time Fourier transform. The estimates are local in time, and this allows one, essentially, to replace the symbol of the wave operator, which vanishes on the light cone in Fourier space, with an inhomogeneous symbol, which can be inverted. Our result improves earlier estimates of this type proved by Klainerman-Machedon. As a corollary, one obtains a rather general result concerning local well-posedness of nonlinear …
We prove the well-posedness of the initial boundary value problem for the Einstein equations with sole boundary condition the requirement that the timelike boundary is totally geodesic. This provides the first well-posedness result for this specific geometric boundary condition and the first setting for which geometric uniqueness in the original sense of Friedrich holds for the initial boundary value problem. Our proof relies on the ADM system for the Einstein vacuum equations, formulated with respect to a parallelly propagated orthonormal frame along timelike geodesics. As an independent resu…
