Classification of real K3 surfaces X with a non-symplectic involution τis considered. For some exactly defined and one of the weakest possible type of degeneration (giving the very reach discriminant), we show that the connected component of their moduli is defined by the isomorphism class of the action of τand the anti-holomorphic involution ϕin the homology lattice. (There are very few similar cases known.) For their classification we apply invariants of integral lattice involutions with conditions which were developed by the first author in 1983. As a particular case, we describe connected components of moduli of real non-singular curves A\in |-2K_V| for the classical real surfaces: V=P^2, hyperboloid, ellipsoid, F_1, F_4.
As an application, we describe all real polarized K3 surfaces which are deformations of general real K3 double rational scrolls (surfaces V above). There are very few exceptions. For example, any non-singular real quartic in P^3 can be constructed in this way.
This paper is concerned with non-symplectic involutions of irreducible symplectic manifolds of $K3^{[n]}$-type. We will give a criterion for deformation equivalence and use this to give a lattice-theoretic description of all deformation types. While moduli spaces of $K3^{[n]}$-type manifolds with non-symplectic involutions are not necessarily Hausdorff, we will construct quasi-projective moduli spaces for a certain well-behaved class of such pairs.
Symplectic involutions of a K3 surface are those involutions which leave the holomorphic 2-form invariant. We show, as predicted by Bloch's conjecture, that they act trivially on the CH_0 group of the K3 surface. This was recently proved by Huybrechts and Kemeny for one of the three types of symplectic involutions.
We study non-symplectic involutions on irreducible symplectic manifolds of K3^{[2]}-type with 19 parameters, which is the second largest possible. We classify the conjugacy classes of cohomological representations into four different types and show that there are at most five deformation types, two of which are given by natural involutions and their flops. Next, we give a geometric realisation of one of the new types using moduli spaces of sheaves on K3 surfaces. The geometry of the manifold and the new involution is described in detail.
Let X be a holomorphic symplectic fourfold such that b_2=23 and i a symplectic involution of X . The fixed locus F of i is a smooth symplectic submanifold of X; we show that F contains at least 12 isolated points and 1 smooth surface. We conjecture that F is made of 28 isolated fixed points and 1 K3 surface and we provide evidences for the conjecture in some examples, as the Hilbert scheme of a K3 surface, the Fano variety of a cubic in P^5 and the double cover of an EPW sextic.
K3-surfaces with antisymplectic involution and compatible symplectic actions of finite groups are considered. In this situation actions of large finite groups of symplectic transformations are shown to arise via double covers of Del Pezzo surfaces. A complete classification of K3-surfaces with maximal symplectic symmetry is obtained.
We study irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds deformation equivalent to Hilbert schemes of points on a $K3$ surface and admitting a non-symplectic involution. We classify the possible discriminant forms of the invariant and anti-invariant lattice for the action of the involution on cohomology, and explicitly describe the lattices in the cases where the invariant has small rank. We also give a modular description of all $d$-dimensional families of manifolds of $K3^{[n]}$-type with a non-symplectic involution for $d\geq 19$ and $n\leq 5$, and provide examples arising as moduli spaces of …
Let X be a Hyperkähler variety deformation equivalent to the Hilbert square on a K3 surface and let f be an involution preserving the symplectic form. We prove that the fixed locus of f consists of 28 isolated points and 1 K3 surface, moreover the anti-invariant lattice of the induced involution on H^2(X,Z) is isomorphic to E_8(-2). Finally we prove that any couple consisting of one such variety and a symplectic involution on it can be deformed into a couple consisting of the Hilbert square of a K3 surface and the involution induced by a Nikulin involution on the K3 surface.
In the context of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds, we say that (anti)holomorphic (anti)symplectic involutions are brane involutions since their fixed point locus is a brane in the physicists' language, i.e. a submanifold which is either complex or lagrangian submanifold with respect to each of the three Kähler structures of the associated hyperkähler structure. Starting from a brane involution on a K3 or abelian surface, one can construct a natural brane involution on its moduli space of sheaves. We study these natural involutions and their relation with the Fourier--Mukai transfo…
Let X be a holomorphic symplectic manifold, of dimension divisible by 4, and s an antisymplectic involution of X . The fixed locus F of s is a Lagrangian submanifold of X ; we show that its Â-genus is 1. As an application, we determine all possibilities for the Chern numbers of F when X is a deformation of the Hilbert square of a K3 surface.
This note concerns hyperkähler fourfolds $X$ having a non-symplectic involution $ι$. The Bloch-Beilinson conjectures predict the way $ι$ should act on certain pieces of the Chow groups of $X$. The main result is a verification of this prediction for Fano varieties of lines on certain cubic fourfolds. This has consequences for the Chow ring of the quotient $X/ι$.
In this paper we complete the classification of the elliptic fibrations on K3 surfaces which admit a non-symplectic involution acting trivially on the Néron--Severi group. We use the geometric method introduced by Oguiso and moreover we provide a geometric construction of the fibrations classified. If the non-symplectic involution fixes at least one curve of genus 1, we relate all the elliptic fibrations on the K3 surface with either elliptic fibrations or generalized conic bundles on rational elliptic surfaces. This description allows us to write the Weierstrass equations of the elliptic fibr…
There are three types of involutions on a cubic fourfold; two of anti-symplectic type, and one symplectic. Here we show that cubics with involutions exhibit the full range of behaviour in relation to rationality conjectures. Namely, we show a general cubic fourfold with symplectic involution has no associated K3 surface and is conjecturely irrational. In contrast, we show a cubic fourfold with a particular anti-symplectic involution has an associated K3, and is in fact rational. We show such a cubic is contained in the intersection of all non-empty Hassett divisors; we call such a cubic Hasset…
A $K3$ surface with an ample divisor of self-intersection 2 is a double cover of the plane branched over a sextic curve. We conjecture that a similar statement holds for the generic couple $(X,H)$ with $X$ a deformation of $(K3)^{[n]}$ and $H$ an ample divisor of square 2 for Beauville's quadratic form. If $n=2$ then according to the conjecture $X$ is a double cover of a (singular) sextic 4-fold in $\PP^5$. It follows from the conjecture that a deformation of $(K3)^{[n]}$ carrying a divisor (not necessarily ample) of degree 2 has an anti-symplectic birational involution. We test the conjecture…
This article is about hyperkähler fourfolds $X$ admitting a non-symplectic involution $ι$. The Bloch-Beilinson conjectures predict the way $ι$ should act on certain pieces of the Chow groups of $X$. The main result is a verification of this prediction for Fano varieties of lines on certain cubic fourfolds. This has some interesting consequences for the Chow ring of the quotient $X/ι$.
We prove the so-called Unitary Isotropy Theorem, a result on isotropy of a unitary involution. The analogous previously known results on isotropy of orthogonal and symplectic involutions as well as on hyperbolicity of orthogonal, symplectic, and unitary involutions are formal consequences of this theorem. A component of the proof is a detailed study of the quasi-split unitary grassmannians.
We study the boundary behavior of the invariant of $K3^{[2]}$-type manifolds with antisymplectic involution, which we obtained using equivariant analytic torsion. We show the algebraicity of the singularity of the invariant by using the asymptotic of equivariant Quillen metrics and equivariant $L^2$-metrics. We prove that, in some cases, the invariant coincides with Yoshikawa's invariant for 2-elementary K3 surfaces. Hence, in these cases, our invariant is expressed as the Petersson norm of a Borcherds product and a Siegel modular form.
We study K3 surfaces with a pair of commuting involutions that are non-symplectic with respect to two anti-commuting complex structures that are determined by a hyper-Kähler metric. One motivation for this paper is the role of such $\mathbb{Z}^2_2$-actions for the construction of $G_2$-manifolds. We find a large class of smooth K3 surfaces with such pairs of involutions, but we also pay special attention to the case that the K3 surface has ADE-singularities. Therefore, we introduce a special class of non-symplectic involutions that are suitable for explicit calculations and find 320 examples o…
We classify K3 surfaces with a non-symplectic finite automorphism of high order. It is shown that such an automorphism cannot be of order 60, and for each of the orders 38, 44, 48, 50, 54 and 66, there exists a unique K3 surface with such an automorphism.
The Beauville-Bogomolov lattice is computed for a simplest singular symplectic manifold of dimension 4, obtained as a partial desingularization of the quotient $S^{[2]}/ι$, where $S^{[2]}$ is the Hilbert square of a K3 surface $S$ and $ι$ is a symplectic involution on it. This result applies, in particular, to the singular symplectic manifolds of dimension 4, constructed by Markushevich-Tikhomirov as compactifications of families of Prym varieties of a linear system of curves on a K3 surface with an anti-symplectic involution.
For a symplectic manifold with an anti-symplectic involution having non-empty fixed locus, we construct a model of the moduli space of real sphere maps out of moduli spaces of decorated disk maps and give an explicit expression for its first Stiefel-Whitney class. As a corollary, we obtain a large number of examples, which include all odd-dimensional projective spaces and many complete intersections, for which many types of real moduli spaces are orientable. For these manifolds, we define open Gromov-Witten invariants with no restriction on the dimension of the manifolds or the type of the con…
We study the maps induced on cohomology by a Nikulin (i.e. a symplectic) involution on a K3 surface. We parametrize the eleven dimensional irreducible components of the moduli space of algebraic K3 surfaces with a Nikulin involution and we give examples of the general K3 surface in various components. We conclude with some remarks on Morrison-Nikulin involutions, these are Nikulin involutions which interchange two copies of E_8(-1) in the Neron Severi group.
Three new examples of 4-dimensional irreducible symplectic V-manifolds are constructed. Two of them are relative compactified Prymians of a family of genus-3 curves with involution, and the third one is obtained from a Prymian by Mukai's flop. They have the same singularities as two of Fujiki's examples, namely, 28 isolated singular points analytically equivalent to the Veronese cone of degree 8, but a different Euler number. The family of curves used in this construction forms a linear system on a K3 surface with involution. The structure morphism of both Prymians to the base of the family is…
The aim of this paper is to construct Calabi-Yau 4-folds as crepant resolutions of the quotients of a hyperkähler 4-fold $X$ by a non symplectic involution $α$. We first compute the Hodge numbers of a Calabi-Yau constructed in this way in a general setting and then we apply the results to several specific examples of non symplectic involutions, producing Calabi-Yau 4-folds with different Hodge diamonds. Then we restrict ourselves to the case where $X$ is the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface $S$ and the involution $α$ is induced by a non symplectic involution on the K3 surface. In t…
In this paper we classify the elliptic fibrations on K3 surfaces which are the double cover of a blow up of $\mathbb{P}^2$ branched along rational curves and we give equations for many of these elliptic fibrations. Thus we obtain a classification of the van Geemen--Sarti involutions (which are symplectic involutions induced by a translation by a 2-torsion section on an elliptic fibration) on such a surface. Each van Geemen--Sarti involution induces a 2-isogeny between two K3 surfaces, which is described in this paper.
We study the geometry of some moduli spaces of twisted sheaves on K3 surfaces. In particular we introduce induced automorphisms from a K3 surface on moduli spaces of twisted sheaves on this K3 surface. As an application we prove the unirationality of moduli spaces of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds of $K3^{[2]}$-type admitting non symplectic involutions with invariant lattices $U(2)\oplus D_4(-1)$ or $U(2)\oplus E_8(-2)$. This complements the results obtained in [Mongardi and Wandel 2015], [Bossiere et al 2016], and the results from [arXiv:1603.00403] about the geometry of IHS fou…
We consider the connected-sum method of constructing compact Riemannian 7-manifolds with holonomy G_2 developed in math.DG/0012189. The method requires pairs of projective complex threefolds endowed with anticanonical K3 divisors, the latter `matching' via a certain non-holomorphic map. Suitable examples of threefolds were previously obtained in math.DG/0012189 by blowing up curves in Fano threefolds. In this paper, we give further suitable algebraic threefolds using theory of K3 surfaces with non-symplectic involution due to Nikulin. These threefolds are not obtainable from Fano threefolds, a…
A projective symplectic variety $\mathcal{P}$ of dimension 6, with only finite quotient singularities, $π(\mathcal{P})=0$ and $h^{(2,0)}(\mathcal{P}_{smooth})=1$, is described as a relative compactified Prym variety of a family of genus 4 curves with involution. It is a Lagrangian fibration associated to a K3 surface double cover of a generic cubic surface. It has no symplectic desingularization.
We construct models of involution surface bundles over algebraic surfaces, degenerating over normal crossing divisors, and with controlled singularities of the total space.
In this note we are going to consider a smooth projective surface equipped with an involution and study the action of the involution at the level of Chow group of zero cycles.
The concept of non-Gorenstein involutions on Calabi-Yau threefolds is a higher dimensional generalization of non-symplectic involutions on $K3$ surfaces. We present some elementary facts about Calabi-Yau threefolds with non-Gorenstein involutions. We give a classification of the Calabi-Yau threefolds of Picard rank one with non-Gorenstein involutions whose fixed locus is not zero-dimensional.
In this note we are going to consider a smooth projective surface equipped with an involution and study the action of the involution at the level of Chow group of zero cycles.
In this short note we prove that the Bloch's conjecture holds for a surface of general type of numerical Godeaux type or some class of numerical Campedelli type, with geometric genus zero equipped with an involution, when the quotient of the surface by the involution is a rational surface.
Starting from an anti-symplectic involution on a K3 surface, one can consider a natural Lagrangian subvariety inside the moduli space of sheaves over the K3. One can also construct a Prymian integrable system following a construction of Markushevich--Tikhomirov, extended by Arbarello--Saccà--Ferretti, Matteini and Sawon--Chen. In this article we address a question of Sawon, showing that these integrable systems and their associated natural Lagrangians degenerate, respectively, into fix loci of involutions considered by Heller--Schaposnik, Garcia-Prada--Wilkins and Basu--Garcia-Prada. Along the…
An involution on a surface induces involutions on the cohomology, the Chow group and the Brauer group of the surface. We give a detailed study of those actions. We show that the odd part of these groups can be used to describe the geometry of cubic fourfolds and conic bundles over $\mathbb{P}^3$.
Quaternionic Shimura surfaces are quotient of the bidisc by an irreducible cocompact arithmetic group. In the present paper we are interested in (smooth) quaternionic Shimura surfaces admitting an automorphism with one dimensional fixed locus; such automorphisms are involutions. We propose a new construction of surfaces of general type with $q=p_{g}=0$ as quotients of quaternionic Shimura surfaces by such involutions. These quotients have finite fundamental group.
We present the classification of involutions on Enriques surfaces. We classify those into 18 types with the help of the lattice theory due to Nikulin. We also give all examples of the classification.
Numerical Campedelli surfaces are minimal surfaces of general type with p_g=0 (and so q=0) and K^2=2. Although they have been studied by several authors, their complete classification is not known. In this paper we classify numerical Campedelli surfaces with an involution, i.e. an automorphism of order 2. First we show that an involution on a numerical Campedelli surface S has either four or six isolated fixed points, and the bicanonical map of S is composed with the involution if and only if the involution has six isolated fixed points. Then we study in detail each of the possible cases, desc…
We show that there is a surjection from the Fourier-Mukai transformations on projective K3 surfaces with the Picard number $ρ(X)=1$ to so called to the group of Atkin-Lehner involutions. This was expected in Hosono-Lian-Oguiso-Yau's paper.
We consider real forms of relatively minimal rational surfaces F_m. Connected components of moduli of real non-singular curves in |-2K_{F_m}| had been classified recently for m=0, 1, 4 in math.AG/0312396. Applying similar methods, here we fill the gap for m=2 and m=3 to complete similar classification for any 0\le m\le 4 when |-2K_{F_m}| is reduced. The case of F_2 is especially remarkable and classical (quadratic cone in P^3). As an application, we finished classification of connected components of moduli of real hyper-elliptically polarized K3 surfaces and their deformations to real polarize…
We classify Enriques involutions on a K3 surface, up to conjugation in the automorphism group, in terms of lattice theory. We enumerate such involutions on singular K3 surfaces with transcendental lattice of discriminant smaller than or equal to 36. For 11 of these K3 surfaces, we apply Borcherds method to compute the automorphism group of the Enriques surfaces covered by them. In particular, we investigate the structure of the two most algebraic Enriques surfaces.
In this short note we prove that an involution on certain examples of surfaces of general type with $p_g=0$, acts as identity on the Chow group of zero cycles of the relevant surface. In particular we consider examples of such surfaces when the quotient is an Enriques surface and show that the Bloch's conjecture holds for such surfaces.
In this paper we study on the involution on minimal surfaces of general type with $p_g=q=0$ and $K^2=7$. We focus on the classification of the birational models of the quotient surfaces and their branch divisors induced by an involution.
