The aim of this paper is to construct Calabi-Yau 4-folds as crepant resolutions of the quotients of a hyperkähler 4-fold $X$ by a non symplectic involution $α$. We first compute the Hodge numbers of a Calabi-Yau constructed in this way in a general setting and then we apply the results to several specific examples of non symplectic involutions, producing Calabi-Yau 4-folds with different Hodge diamonds. Then we restrict ourselves to the case where $X$ is the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface $S$ and the involution $α$ is induced by a non symplectic involution on the K3 surface. In this case we compare the Calabi-Yau 4-fold $Y_S$, which is the crepant resolution of $X/α$, with the Calabi-Yau 4-fold $Z_S$, constructed from $S$ through the Borcea--Voisin construction. We give several explicit geometrical examples of both these Calabi--Yau 4-folds describing maps related to interesting linear systems as well as a rational $2:1$ map from $Z_S$ to $Y_S$.
Toric hyperk{ä}hler manifolds are quaternion analog of toric varieties. Bielawski pointed out that they can be glued by cotangent bundles of toric varieties. Following his idea, viewing both toric varieties and toric hyperk{ä}her manifolds as GIT quotients, we first establish geometrical criteria for the semi-stable points. Then based on these criteria, we show that the cotangent bundles of compact toric varieties in the core of toric hyperk{ä}hler manifold are sufficient to glue the desired toric hyperk{ä}hler manifold.
We show how one can construct new autoequivalences of some Calabi-Yau and hyperk"ahler varieties by passing from a smooth projective surface to the associated Hilbert scheme of points.
We prove some results on effective very ampleness and projective normality for some varieties with trivial canonical bundle. In the first part we prove an effective projective normality result for an ample line bundle on regular smooth four-folds with trivial canonical bundle. More precisely we show that for a regular smooth fourfold with trivial canonical bundle, $A^{\otimes 15}$ is projectively normal for $A$ ample. In the second part we emphasize on the projective normality of multiples of ample and globally generated line bundles on certain classes of known examples (upto deformation) of p…
Kawamata proposed a conjecture predicting that every nef and big line bundle on a smooth projective variety with trivial first Chern class has nontrivial global sections. We verify this conjecture for several cases, including (i) all hyperkähler varieties of dimension $\leq 6$; (ii) all known hyperkähler varieties except for O'Grady's 10-dimensional example; (iii) general complete intersection Calabi-Yau varieties in certain Fano manifolds (e.g. toric ones). Moreover, we investigate the effectivity of Todd classes of hyperkähler varieties and Calabi-Yau varieties. We prove that the fourth Todd…
Motivated by the Bloch-Beilinson conjectures, Voisin has made a conjecture concerning zero-cycles on self-products of Calabi-Yau varieties. We reformulate Voisin's conjecture in the setting of hyperkähler varieties, and we prove this reformulated conjecture for one family of hyperkähler fourfolds.
We prove that the automorphism group of an odd dimensional Calabi-Yau manifold of Picard number two is always a finite group. This makes a sharp contrast to the automorphism groups of K3 surfaces and hyperkähler manifolds and birational automorphism groups, as we shall see. We also clarify the relation between finiteness of the automorphism group (resp. birational automorphism group) and the rationality of the nef cone (resp. movable cone) for a hyperkähler manifold of Picard number two. We will also discuss a similar conjectual relation together with exsistence of rational curve, expected by …
This note contains some examples of hyperkähler varieties $X$ having a group $G$ of non-symplectic automorphisms, and such that the action of $G$ on certain Chow groups of $X$ is as predicted by Bloch's conjecture. The examples range in dimension from $6$ to $132$. For each example, the quotient $Y=X/G$ is a Calabi-Yau variety which has interesting Chow-theoretic properties; in particular, the variety $Y$ satisfies (part of) a strong version of the Beauville-Voisin conjecture.
We show that given an embedding of an Enriques manifold of index $d$ in a large enough projective space, there will exist embedded multiple structures with conormal bundle isomorphic to the trace zero module of the universal covering map, the universal cover being either a hyperkähler or a Calabi-Yau manifold. We then show that these multiple structures (also known as $d$-ropes) can be smoothed to smooth hyperkähler or Calabi-Yau manifolds respectively. Hence we obtain a flat family of hyperkähler (or Calabi-Yau) manifolds embedded in the same projective space which degenerates to an embedded …
We prove the Mirror Conjecture for Calabi-Yau manifolds equipped with a holomorphic symplectic form. Such manifolda are also known as complex manifolds of hyperkaehler type. We obtain that a complex manifold of hyperkaehler type is Mirror dual to itself. The Mirror Conjecture is stated (following Kontsevich, ICM talk) as the equivalence of certain algebraic structures related to variations of Hodge structures. We compute the canonical flat coordinates on the moduli space of Calabi-Yau manifolds of hyperkaehler type, introduced to Mirror Symmetry by Bershadsky, Cecotti, Ooguri and Vafa.
The Kobayashi pseudometric on a complex manifold is the maximal pseudometric such that any holomorphic map from the Poincaré disk to the manifold is distance-decreasing. Kobayashi has conjectured that this pseudometric vanishes on Calabi-Yau manifolds. Using ergodicity of complex structures, we prove this conjecture for any hyperkähler manifold that admits a deformation with two Lagrangian fibrations and whose Picard rank is not maximal. The Strominger-Yau-Zaslow (SYZ) conjecture claims that parabolic nef line bundles on hyperkähler manifolds are semi-ample. We prove that the Kobayashi pseudom…
We prove the existence of global sections trivializing the Hodge bundles on the Hodge metric completion space of the Torelli space of Calabi--Yau manifolds, a global splitting property of these Hodge bundles. We also prove that a compact Calabi--Yau manifold can not be deformed to its complex conjugate. These results answer certain open questions in the subject. A general result about the period map to be bi-holomorphic from the Hodge metric completion space of the Torelli space of Calabi--Yau type manifolds to their period domains is proved and applied to the cases of K$3$ surfaces, cubic fou…
Recently Oh-Thomas constructed a virtual cycle $[X]^{\mathrm{vir}}\in A_*(X)$ for a quasi-projective moduli space $X$ of stable sheaves or complexes over a Calabi-Yau 4-fold against which DT4 invariants may be defined as integrals of cohomology classes. In this paper, we prove that the virtual cycle localizes to the zero locus $X(σ)$ of an isotropic cosection $σ$ of the obstruction sheaf $Ob_X$ of $X$ and construct a localized virtual cycle $[X]^{\mathrm{vir}}_{\mathrm{loc}}\in A_*(X(σ))$. This is achieved by further localizing the Oh-Thomas class which localizes Edidin-Graham's square root Eu…
A categorical formalism is introduced for studying various features of the symplectic geometry of Lefschetz fibrations and the algebraic geometry of Tyurin degenerations. This approach is informed by homological mirror symmetry, derived noncommutative geometry, and the theory of Fukaya categories with coefficients in a perverse Schober. The main technical results include (i) a comparison between the notion of relative Calabi-Yau structures and a certain refinement of the notion of a spherical functor, (ii) a local-to-global gluing principle for constructing Calabi-Yau structures, and (iii) the…
In this paper, we provide new examples of Levi-Civita Ricci-flat Hermitian metrics on certain compact non-Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds, including every compact Hermitian Weyl-Einstein manifold, every compact locally conformal hyperKähler manifold, certain suspensions of Brieskorn manifolds, and every generalized Hopf manifold provided by suspensions of exotic spheres. These examples generalize previous constructions on Hopf manifolds. Additionally, we also construct new examples of compact Hermitian manifolds with nonnegative first Chern class that admit constant strictly negative Riemannian sc…
Motivated by the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow conjecture, we study fibre spaces whose total space has trivial canonical bundle. Especially, we are interest in Calabi-Yau varieties with fibre structure. In this paper, we only consider semi-stable families. We use Hodge theory and the generalized Donaldson-Simpson-Uhlenbeck-Yau correspondence to study the parabolic structure of higher direct images over higher dimensional quasi-projective base, and obtain an important result on parabolic-semi-positivity. We then apply this result to study nonisotrivial Calabi-Yau varieties fibred by Abelian varieties (…
We compute the hessian of the natural Hermitian form successively on the Calabi family of a hyperkähler manifold, on the twistor space of a 4-dimensional anti-self-dual Riemannian manifold and on the twistor space of a quaternionic Kähler manifold. We show a strong convexity property of the cycle space of twistor lines on the Calabi family of a hyperkähler manifold. We also prove convexity properties of the 1-cycle space of the twistor space of a 4-dimensional anti-self-dual Einstein manifold of non-positive scalar curvature and of the 1-cycle space of the twistor space of a quaternionic Kähle…
We study the collapsing behaviour of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on a projective Calabi-Yau manifold which admits an abelian fibration, when the volume of the fibers approaches zero. We show that away from the critical locus of the fibration the metrics collapse with locally bounded curvature, and along the fibers the rescaled metrics become flat in the limit. The limit metric on the base minus the critical locus is locally isometric to an open dense subset of any Gromov-Hausdorff limit space of the Ricci-flat metrics. We then apply these results to study metric degenerations of families of pola…
Using a hyperKähler rotation on complex structures of a Calabi-Yau 2-fold and rolling of an isotropic 2-submanifold in a symplectic 6-manifold, we construct, by gluing, a natural family of immersed Lagrangian deformations of a branched covering of a special Lagrangian 3-sphere in a Calabi-Yau 3-fold and study how they deviate from being deformable to a family of special Lagrangian deformations by examining in detail Joyce's criteria on this family. The result suggests a potential image-support rigidity of A-branes that wrap around a special Lagrangian 3-sphere in a Calabi-Yau 3-fold, which res…
In this article we discuss the geometry of moduli spaces of (1) flat bundles over special Lagrangian submanifolds and (2) deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills bundles over complex submanifolds in Calabi-Yau manifolds. These moduli spaces reflect the geometry of the Calabi-Yau itself like a mirror. Strominger, Yau and Zaslow conjecture that the mirror Calabi-Yau manifold is such a moduli space and they argue that the mirror symmetry duality is a Fourier-Mukai transformation. We review various aspects of the mirror symmetry conjecture and discuss a geometric approach in proving it. The existence of rig…
In this expository paper we review some twistor techniques and recall the problem of finding compact differentiable manifolds that can carry both Kähler and non-Kähler complex structures. Such examples were constructed independently by M. Atiyah, A. Blanchard and E. Calabi in the $1950$'s. In the $1980$'s V. Tsanov gave an example of a simply connected manifold that admits both Kähler and non-Kähler complex structures - the twistor space of a $K3$ surface. Here we show that the quaternion twistor space of a hyperkähler manifold has the same property.
Following an earlier paper on the differential-geometric structure of the moduli space of special Lagrangian submanifolds in a Calabi-Yau manifold, we follow an analogous approach for compact complex Lagrangian submanifolds of a (Kählerian) complex symplectic manifold. The natural geometric structure on the moduli space is a special Kähler metric, but we offer a different point of view on the local differential geometry of these, based on the structure of a submanifold of $V\times V$ (where $V$ is a symplectic vector space) which is Lagrangian with respect to two constant symplectic forms. As …
