The main purpose of this paper is to study the validity of the Hausdorff-Young inequality for vector-valued functions defined on a non-commutative compact group. The natural context for this research is that of operator spaces. This leads us to formulate a whole new theory of Fourier type and cotype for the category of operator spaces. The present paper is the first step in this program, where the basic theory is presented, the main examples are analyzed and some questions are posed.
The paper studies Hausdorff-Young inequalities for certain group extensions, by use of Mackey's theory. We consider the case in which the dual action of the quotient group is free almost everywhere. This result applies to yield a Hausdorff-Young inequality for nonunimodular groups.
It has been shown in "On the Hausdorff-Young theorem for commutative hypergroups" by Sina Degenfeld-Schonburg, that one can extend the domain of Fourier transform of a commutative hypergroup $K$ to $L^p(K)$ for $1\leq p \leq 2$, and the Hausdorff-Young inequality holds true for these cases. In this article, we examine the structure of non-zero functions in $L^p(K)$ for which equality is attained in the Hausdorff-Young inequality, for $1<p<2$, and further provide a characterization for the basic uncertainty principle for commutative hypergroups with non-trivial centre.
The classical Hausdorff-Young inequalities for the Fourier transform acting between appropriate $L_p$ spaces are cornerstones of Fourier analysis. Here we extend it to weighted spaces of Besov or Sobolev type where the weight has the form $w(x)=(1+|x|^2)^{α/2}$. This note is not a paper or draft but a sketchy complement to some earlier results where we dealt with mapping properties of the Fourier transform.
In this paper we prove new inequalities describing the relationship between the "size" of a function on a compact homogeneous manifold and the "size" of its Fourier coefficients. These inequalities can be viewed as noncommutative versions of the Hardy-Littlewood inequalities obtained by Hardy and Littlewood on the circle. For the example case of the group SU(2) we show that the obtained Hardy-Littlewood inequalities are sharp, yielding a criterion for a function to be in $L^p$ on SU(2) in terms of its Fourier coefficients. We also establish Paley and Hausdorff-Young-Paley inequalities on gener…
We prove several results about the best constants in the Hausdorff-Young inequality for noncommutative groups. In particular, we establish a sharp local central version for compact Lie groups, and extend known results for the Heisenberg group. In addition, we prove a universal lower bound to the best constant for general Lie groups.
We study Hausdorff-Young type inequalities for vector-valued Dirichlet series which allow to compare the norm of a Dirichlet series in the Hardy space $\mathcal{H}_{p} (X)$ with the $q$-norm of its coefficients. In order to obtain inequalities completely analogous to the scalar case, a Banach space must satisfy the restrictive notion of Fourier type/cotype. We show that variants of these inequalities hold for the much broader range of spaces enjoying type/cotype. We also consider Hausdorff-Young type inequalities for functions defined on the infinite torus $\mathbb{T}^{\infty}$ or the boolean …
In this paper we study the vector-valued analogues of several inequalities for the Fourier transform. In particular, we consider the inequalities of Hausdorff--Young, Hardy--Littlewood, Paley, Pitt, Bochkarev and Zygmund. The Pitt inequalities include the Hausdorff--Young and Hardy--Littlewood inequalities and state that the Fourier transform is bounded from $L^p(\mathbb{R}^d,|\cdot|^{βp})$ into $L^q(\mathbb{R}^d,|\cdot|^{-γq})$ under certain condition on $p,q,β$ and $γ$. Vector-valued analogues are derived under geometric conditions on the underlying Banach space such as Fourier type and rela…
In this paper, a metric on $S_b$-metric space analogous to the Hausdorff metric has been introduced and some basic properties are obtained on multi-valued $S_b$-metric space. Further, the fundamental multi-valued contraction of Nadler(1962) has been extended to the $S_b$-metric space setting, and two results have been established. The entire study is supported by suitable examples.
We study Fourier and Laplace transforms for Fourier hyperfunctions with values in a complex locally convex Hausdorff space. Since any hyperfunction with values in a wide class of locally convex Hausdorff spaces can be extended to a Fourier hyperfunction, this gives simple notions of asymptotic Fourier and Laplace transforms for vector-valued hyperfunctions, which improves the existing models of Komatsu, Bäumer, Lumer and Neubrander and Langenbruch.
In this paper we extend classical Titchmarsh theorems on the Fourier transform of H$\ddot{\text{o}}$lder-Lipschitz functions to the setting of harmonic $NA$ groups, which relate smoothness properties of functions to the growth and integrability of their Fourier transform. We prove a Fourier multiplier theorem for $L^2$-H$\ddot{\text{o}}$lder-Lipschitz spaces on Harmonic $NA$ groups. We also derive conditions and a characterisation of Dini-Lipschitz classes on Harmonic $NA$ groups in terms of the behaviour of their Fourier transform. Then, we shift our attention to the spherical analysis on Har…
It is a classical result that every $\mathbb{C}$-valued holomorphic function has a local power series representation. This even remains true for holomorphic functions with values in a locally complete locally convex Hausdorff space $E$ over $\mathbb{C}$. Motivated by this example we try to answer the following question. Let $E$ be a locally convex Hausdorff space over a field $\mathbb{K}$, $\mathcal{F}(Ω)$ be a locally convex Hausdorff space of $\mathbb{K}$-valued functions on a set $Ω$ and $\mathcal{F}(Ω,E)$ be an $E$-valued counterpart of $\mathcal{F}(Ω)$ (where the term $E$-valued counterpa…

The paper deals with some properties of set-valued functions having a bounded Riesz p-variation. Set-valued integrals of a Young type for such multifunctions are introduced. Selection results and properties of such setvalued integrals are discussed. These integrals contain as a particular case set-valued stochastic integrals with respect to a fractional Brownian motion, and therefore, their properties are crucial for the investigation of solutions to stochastic differential inclusions driven by a fractional Brownian motion.
We give a short proof that any non-zero Euclidean space has a compact subset of Hausdorff dimension one that contains a differentiability point of every real-valued Lipschitz function defined on the space.
In this paper, we generalize Young's inequality for locally compact quantum groups and obtain some results for extremal pairs of Young's inequality and extremal functions of Hausdorff-Young inequality.
We introduce a vector-valued version of a uniform algebra, called the vector-valued function space over a uniform algebra. The diameter two properties of the vector-valued function space over a uniform algebra on an infinite compact Hausdorff space are investigated. Every nonempty relatively weakly open subset of the unit ball of a vector-valued function space $A(K, (X, τ))$ over an infinite dimensional uniform algebra has the diameter two, where $τ$ is a locally convex Hausdorff topology on a Banach space $X$ compatible to a dual pair. Under the assumption on $X$ being uniformly convex with n…
Let $E$ be a separable Banach space and $Ω$ be a compact Hausdorff space. It is shown that the space $C(Ω,E)$ has property (V) if and only if $E$ does. Similar result is also given for Bochner spaces $L^p(μ,E)$ if $1<p<\infty$ and $μ$ is a finite Borel measure on $Ω$.
We extend Łukasiewicz logic obtaining the infinitary logic $\mathcal{IR}Ł$ whose models are algebras $C(X,[0,1])$, where $X$ is a basically disconnected compact Hausdorff space. Equivalently, our models are unit intervals in $σ$-complete Riesz spaces with strong unit. The Lindenbaum-Tarski algebra of $\mathcal{IR}Ł$ is, up to isomorphism, an algebra of $[0,1]$-valued Borel functions. Finally, our system enjoys standard completeness with respect to the real interval $[0,1]$.
Let $A$ be a commutative semisimple Banach algebra, $X$ be a locally compact Hausdorff topological space and $G$ be a locally compact topological group. In this paper, we investigate several properties of vector valued Banach algebras $C_0(X,A)$, $L^p(G,A)$, $l^p(X,A)$ and $l^{\infty}(X,A)$. We prove that these algebras are isomorphic with a $C^*-$algebra if and only if $A$ is so.
Let $X$ be a compact Hausdorff space, let $E$ be a Banach space, and let $C(X,E)$ stand for the Banach space of $E$-valued continuous functions on $X$ under the uniform norm. In this paper we characterize Integral operators (in the sense of Grothendieck) on $C(X,E)$ spaces in term of their representing vector measures. This is then used to give some applications to Nuclear operators on $C(X,E)$ spaces.
Let $ \mathcal{A} $ be a commutative and semisimple Banach algebra with identity norm one and $ G $ be an abelian locally compact Hausdorff group. In this paper, we study BSE-Property for $L^1(G,\mathcal A)$ and show that $L^1(G,\mathcal A)$ is a BSE algebra if and only if $\mathcal A$ is so.
We introduce the concept of an $E$-valued function algebra, a type of Banach algebra that consist of continuous $E$-valued functions on some compact Hausdorff space, where $E$ is a Banach algebra. We present some basic results about such algebras, having to do with the Shilov boundary and the set of peak points of some commutative $E$-valued function algebras. We give some specific examples.
In a 1990 paper Helton and Young showed that under certain conditions the optimal solution of the Nehari problem corresponding to a finite rank Hankel operator with scalar entries can be efficiently approximated by certain functions defined in terms of finite dimensional restrictions of the Hankel operator. In this paper it is shown that these approximants appear as optimal solutions to restricted Nehari problems. The latter problems can be solved using relaxed commutant lifting theory. This observation is used to extent the Helton and Young approximation result to a matrix-valued setting. As …
Let $f$ and $g$ be scalar-valued, continuous functions on some topological space. We say that $g$ dominates $f$ in the compatibility ordering if $g$ coincides with $f$ on the support of $f$. We prove that two compact Hausdorff spaces are homeomorphic if and only if there exists a compatibility isomorphism between their families of scalar-valued, continuous functions. We derive the classical theorems of Gelfand-Kolmogorov, Milgram and Kaplansky as easy corollaries to our result as well as a theorem of Jarosz [Bull. Canad. Math. Soc. 1990] thereby building~a common roof for these theorems. Sharp…
Let $X$ be a locally compact Hausdorff space, and $A$ be a commutative semisimple Banach algebra over the scalar field $\mathbb{C}$. The correlation between different types of BSE- Banach algebras $A$, and the Banach algebra $C_{0}(X, A)$ are assessed. It is found and approved that $C_{0}(X, A)$ is a $C^{*}$- algebra if and only if $A$ is so. Furthermore, $C_{b}(X, A)= C_{0}(X, A)$ if and only if $X$ is compact.
In this paper we estimate the Kuratowski and the Hausdorff measures of noncompactness of bounded subsets of spaces of vector-valued bounded functions and of vector-valued bounded differentiable functions. To this end, we use a quantitative characteristic modeled on a new equiconti\-nuity-type concept and classical quantitative characteristics related to pointwise relative compactness. We obtain new regular measures of noncompactness in the spaces taken into consideration. The established inequalities reduce to precise formulas in some classes of subsets. We derive Ascoli-Arzel\` a type compact…
Regular normalized W-valued spectral measures on a compact Hausdorff space X are in one-to-one correspondence with unital *-representations ρ:C(X)\to W, where W stands for a von Neumann algebra. In this paper we show that for every compact Hausdorff space X and every von Neumann algebras W_1,W_2 there is a one-to-one correspondence between unital *-representations ρ:C(X,W_1)\to W_2 and special B(W_1,W_2)-valued measures on X that we call non-negative spectral measures. Such measures are special cases of non-negative measures that we introduced in our previous paper in connection with moment pr…
We introduce a new class $\mathcal{FV}(Ω,E)$ of spaces of weighted functions on a set $Ω$ with values in a locally convex Hausdorff space $E$ which covers many classical spaces of vector-valued functions like continuous, smooth, holomorphic or harmonic functions. Then we exploit the construction of $\mathcal{FV}(Ω,E)$ to derive sufficient conditions such that $\mathcal{FV}(Ω,E)$ can be linearised, i.e. that $\mathcal{FV}(Ω,E)$ is topologically isomorphic to the $\varepsilon$-product $\mathcal{FV}(Ω)\varepsilon E$ where $\mathcal{FV}(Ω):=\mathcal{FV}(Ω,\mathbb{K})$ and $\mathbb{K}$ is the scala…
In this paper we study the problem of extending functions with values in a locally convex Hausdorff space $E$ over a field $\mathbb{K}$, which have weak extensions in a weighted Banach space $\mathcal{F}ν(Ω,\mathbb{K})$ of scalar-valued functions on a set $Ω$, to functions in a vector-valued counterpart $\mathcal{F}ν(Ω,E)$ of $\mathcal{F}ν(Ω,\mathbb{K})$. Our findings rely on a description of vector-valued functions as linear continuous operators and extend results of Frerick, Jordá and Wengenroth. As an application we derive weak-strong principles for continuously partially differentiable fun…
We obtain several versions of the Hausdorff-Young and Hardy-Littlewood inequalities for the $(k,a)$-generalized Fourier transform recently investigated at length by Ben Saï d, Kobayashi, and Ø rsted. We also obtain a number of weighted inequalities - in particular Pitt's inequality - that have application to uncertainty principles. Specifically we obtain several analogs of the Heisenberg-Pauli-Weyl principle for $L^p$-functions, local Cowling-Price-type inequalities, Donoho-Stark-type inequalities and qualitative extensions. We finally use the Hausdorff-Young inequality as a means to obtain en…
In this article we develop the theory of $H$-Orlicz space generated by generalised Young function. Modular convergence of $H$-Orlicz space for the case of vector-valued functions and norm convergence in $\mcH^θ(X, \barμ)$ where $X$ is any Banach space are discussed. Relationships of modular convergence and norm convergence of $H$-Orlicz spaces are discussed.
This paper deals with the inequalities devoted to the comparison between the norm of a function on a compact hypergroup and the norm of its Fourier coefficients. We prove the classical Paley inequality in the setting of compact hypergroups which further gives the Hardy-Littlewood and Hausdorff-Young-Paley (Pitt) inequalities in the noncommutative context. We establish Hörmander's $L^p$-$L^q$ Fourier multiplier theorem on compact hypergroups for $1<p \leq 2 \leq q<\infty$ as an application of Hausdorff-Young-Paley inequality. We examine our results for the hypergroups constructed from the conju…
We characterize all compact and Hausdorff spaces $X$ which satisfy that for every multiplicative bijection $ϕ$ on $C(X, I)$, there exist a homeomorphism $μ: X \to X$ and a continuous map $p: X \to (0, +\infty)$ such that $$ϕ(f) (x) = f(μ(x))^{p(x)}$$ for every $f \in C(X,I)$ and $x \in X$. This allows us to disprove a conjecture of Marovt (Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. {\bf 134} (2006), 1065-1075). Some related results on other semigroups of functions are also given.
Let $Ω$ be a compact Hausdorff space, let $E$ be a Banach space, and let $C(Ω, E)$ stand for the Banach space of all $E$-valued continuous functions on $Ω$ under supnorm. In this paper we study when nuclear operators on $C(Ω, E)$ spaces can be completely characterized in terms of properties of their representing vector measures. We also show that if $F$ is a Banach space and if $T:\ C(Ω, E)\rightarrow F$ is a nuclear operator, then $T$ induces a bounded linear operator $T^\#$ from the space $C(Ω)$ of scalar valued continuous functions on $Ω$ into $\slN(E,F)$ the space of nuclear operators from…
Let $K$ be a compact Hausdorff space and let $H$ be a real or complex Hilbert space with dim$(H_\mathbb{R})\geq 2$. We prove that the space $C(K,H)$ of all $H$-valued continuous functions on $K$, equipped with the supremum norm, satisfies the Mazur--Ulam property, that is, if $Y$ is any real Banach space, every surjective isometry $Δ$ from the unit sphere of $C(K,H)$ onto the unit sphere of $Y$ admits a unique extension to a surjective real linear isometry from $C(K,H)$ onto $Y$. Our strategy relies on the structure of $C(K)$-module of $C(K,H)$ and several results in JB$^*$-triple theory. For …
In this paper, first we study surjective isometries (not necessarily linear) between completely regular subspaces $A$ and $B$ of $C_0(X,E)$ and $C_0(Y,F)$ where $X$ and $Y$ are locally compact Hausdorff spaces and $E$ and $F$ are normed spaces, not assumed to be neither strictly convex nor complete. We show that for a class of normed spaces $F$ satisfying a new defined property related to their $T$-sets, such an isometry is a (generalized) weighted composition operator up to a translation. Then we apply the result to study surjective isometries between $A$ and $B$ whenever $A$ and $B$ are equi…
he octonion offset linear canonical transform can be defined as a time shifted and frequency modulated version of the octonion linear canonical transform, a more general framework of most existing signal processing tools. In this paper, we first define the and provide its closed-form representation. Based on this fact, we study some fundamental properties of proposed transform including inversion formula, norm split and energy conservation. The crux of the paper lies in the generalization of several well known uncertainty relations for the that include Pitts inequality, logarithmic uncertainty…
Let $X$, $Y$, and $Z$ be Banach spaces, and let $α$ be a tensor norm. Let a bounded linear operator $S\in\mathcal{L}(Z,\mathcal{L}(X,Y))$ be given. We obtain (necessary and/or sufficient) conditions for the existence of an operator $U\in\mathcal{L}(Z\hat{\otimes}_αX,Y)$ such that $(Sz)x = U(z\otimes x)$, for all $z\in Z$ and $x\in X$, i.e., $S= U^{#}$, the associated operator to $U$. Let $Ω$ be a compact Hausdorff space and denote by $\mathcal{C}(Ω)$ the space of continuous functions from $Ω$ into $\mathbb{K}$. We apply these results to $S\in\mathcal{L}(\mathcal{C}(Ω),\mathcal{L}(X, Y))$ for c…
In the recent paper \cite{Hos}, surjective isometries, not necessarily linear, $T: {\rm AC}(X,E) \longrightarrow {\rm AC}(Y,F)$ between vector-valued absolutely continuous functions on compact subsets $X$ and $Y$ of the real line, has been described. The target spaces $E$ and $F$ are strictly convex normed spaces. In this paper, we assume that $X$ and $Y$ are compact Hausdorff spaces and $E$ and $F$ are normed spaces, which are not assumed to be strictly convex. We describe (with a short proof) surjective isometries $T: (A,\|\cdot\|_A) \longrightarrow (B,\|\cdot\|_B)$ between certain normed su…
This habilitation thesis centres on linearisation of vector-valued functions which means that vector-valued functions are represented by continuous linear operators. The first question we face is which vector-valued functions may be represented by continuous linear operators where vector-valued means that the functions have values in a locally convex Hausdorff space $E$. We study this problem in the framework of $\varepsilon$-products and give sufficient conditions when a space of $E$-valued functions coincides (up to an isomorphism) with the $\varepsilon$-product of a corresponding space of s…
Let $X$ and $Y$ be compact Hausdorff spaces, $E$ and $F$ be real or complex Banach spaces, and $A(X,E)$ be a subspace of $C(X,E)$. In this paper we study linear operators $S,T: A(X,E) \lo C(Y,F)$ which are jointly separating, in the sense that $\coz(f) \cap \coz(g) = \emptyset$ implies that $\coz(Tf) \cap \coz(Sg)=\emptyset$. Here $\coz(\cdot)$ denotes the cozero set of a function. We characterize the general form of such maps between certain class of vector-valued (as well as scalar-valued) spaces of continuous functions including spaces of vector-valued Lipschitz functions, absolutely contin…
