The aim of this paper is to give a relatively easy bicomplex which computes the Shukla, or Quillen cohomology in the category of associative algebras over a commutative algebra $A$, in the case when $A$ is an algebra over a field.
Continuing a work of Ph.~Monnier, we determine the Gerstenhaber algebra structure over the Poisson cohomology groups for a large class of Poisson structures with isolated singularities over the plane. It reveals that there exists a GAGA type phenomenon. We give an explicit description via generators and relations for the case of simple singularities.
We interpret Grillet's symmetric thrid cohomology classes of commutative monoids in terms of strictly symmetric monoidal abelian groupoids. We state and prove a classification result that generalizes the well-known one for strictly commutative Picard categories by Deligne and Fröhlich and Wall, and Sinh.
Tate cohomology (as well as Borel homology and cohomology) of connective K-theory for $G=(\mathbb{Z}/2)^n$ was completely calculated by Bruner and Greenlees. In this note, we essentially redo the calculation by a different, more elementary method, and we extend it to $p>2$ prime. We also identify the resulting spectra, which are products of Eilenberg-Mac Lane spectra, and finitely many finite Postnikov towers. For $p=2$, we also reconcile our answer completely with the result of Bruner and Greenlees, which is in a different form, and hence the comparison involves some non-trivial combinatorics…
In this article we further the study of non-commutative motives. We prove that bivariant cyclic cohomology (and its variants) becomes representable in the category of non-commutative motives. Furthermore, Connes' bilinear pairings correspond to the composition operation. As an application, we obtain a simple model, given in terms of infinite matrices, for the (de)suspension of these bivariant cohomology theories.
In a recent paper, the author proved that if $n\geq 3$ is a natural number, $R$ a commutative ring and $σ\in GL_n(R)$, then $t_{kl}(σ_{ij})$ where $i\neq j$ and $k\neq l$ can be expressed as a product of $8$ matrices of the form $^εσ^{\pm 1}$ where $ε\in E_n(R)$. In this article we prove similar results for the odd-dimensional orthogonal groups $O_{2n+1}(R)$ and the odd-dimensional unitary groups $U_{2n+1}(R,Δ)$ under the assumption that $R$ is commutative and $n\geq 3$. This yields new, short proofs of the Sandwich Classification Theorems for the groups $O_{2n+1}(R)$ and $U_{2n+1}(R,Δ)$.
Let $n$ be a natural number greater or equal to $3$, $R$ a commutative ring and $σ\in GL_n(R)$. We show that $t_{kl}(σ_{ij})$ (resp. $t_{kl}(σ_{ii}-σ_{jj}))$ where $i\neq j$ and $k\neq l$ can be expressed as a product of $8$ (resp. $24$) matrices of the form $^εσ^{\pm 1}$ where $ε\in E_n(R)$. We prove similar results for the orthogonal groups $O_{2n}(R)$ and the hyperbolic unitary groups $U_{2n}(R,Λ)$ under the assumption that $R$ is commutative and $n\geq 3$. This yields new, very short proofs of the Sandwich Classification Theorems for the groups $GL_n(R)$, $O_{2n}(R)$ and $U_{2n}(R,Λ)$.
Given a cluster-tilted algebra B we study its first Hochschild cohomology group HH1(B) with coefficients in the B-B-bimodule B. If C is a tilted algebra such that B is the relation extension of C by E= Ext2(DC,C), then we prove that HH1(B) is isomorphic, as a vector space, to the direct sum of HH1(C) with HH1(B,E). This yields homological interpretations for results of the first and the fourth author with M.J. Redondo.
In this paper we use ideas of the non-abelian Iwasawa main conjecture to prove a result about the first Galois cohomology of continuous Galois modules V_p(j) for large Tate-twist j and V_p a Q_p vector space. We show that under a technical hypothesis that H^1(K, V_p(j)) is generated by twists of norm-compatible units in an infinite tower of number fields with elements in V_p(j-1). This confirms a consequence of the non-abelian Iwasawa main conjecture. Using the "Bloch-Kato-conjecture" a similar result is proven for motivic cohomology with finite coefficients.
We study the Hochschild cohomology and the Gerstenhaber algebra structure on the algebraic non-commutative torus/quantum torus orbifolds resulting by the action of finite subgroups of $SL_2(\mathbb Z)$. We also examine the Poisson structures and compute the Poisson cohomology.
REVISED VERSION: We have re-organized the paper, and included some new results. Most important, we prove that the (truncated) Weil complexes compute the cyclic cohomology of the Hopf algebra (see the new Theorem 7.3). We also include a short discussion on the uni-modulare case, and the computation for $H= U_q(sl_2)$. THE OLD ABSTRACT: We give a construction of Connes-Moscovici's cyclic cohomology for any Hopf algebra equipped with a twisted antipode. Furthermore, we introduce a non-commutative Weil complex, which connects the work of Gelfand and Smirnov with cyclic cohomology. We show how the …
In this thesis we develop the cohomology of diagrams of algebras and then apply this to the cases of the $λ$-rings and the $Ψ$-rings. A diagram of algebras is a functor from a small category to some category of algebras. For an appropriate category of algebras we get a diagram of groups, a diagram of Lie algebras, a diagram of commutative rings, etc. We define the cohomology of diagrams of algebras using comonads. The cohomology of diagrams of algebras classifies extensions in the category of functors. Our main result is that there is a spectral sequence connecting the cohomology of the diagra…
Given a cohomology theory, there is a well-known abstract way to define the dual homology theory using the theory of spectra. In [4] the author provides a more geometric construction of the homology theory, using a generalization of the bordism groups. Such a generalization involves in its definition the vector bundle modification, which is a particular case of the Gysin map. In this paper we provide a more natural variant of that construction, which replaces the vector bundle modification with the Gysin map itself, which is the natural push-forward in cohomology. We prove that the two constru…
We prove a canonical Kunneth decomposition for the motive of a commutative group scheme over a field. Moreover, we show that this decomposition behaves under the group law just as in cohomology. We also deduce applications of the decomposition to the existence of a weight filtration, computation of any Weil cohomology theory and study of 1-motives.
In this paper one considers three homotopy functors on the category of manifolds, $hH^\ast, cH^\ast, sH^\ast,$ and parallel them with other three homotopy functors on the category of connected commutative differential graded algebras, $HH^\ast, CH^\ast, SH^\ast.$ If $P$ is a smooth 1-connected manifold and the algebra is the de-Rham algebra of $P$ the two pairs of functors agree but in general do not. The functors $ HH^\ast $ and $CH^\ast$ can be also derived as Hochschild resp. cyclic homology of commutative differential graded algebra, but this is not the way they are introduced here. The th…
For a finite dimensional monomial algebra $Λ$ over a field $K$ we show that the Hochschild cohomology ring of $Λ$ modulo the ideal generated by homogeneous nilpotent elements is a commutative finitely generated $K$-algebra of Krull dimension at most one. This was conjectured to be true for any finite dimensional algebra over a field by Snashall-Solberg.
Let $V$ be a complete discrete valuation ring with residue field $k$ and with fraction field $K$ of characteristic 0. We clarify the analysis behind the Monsky--Washnitzer completion of a commutative $V$-algebra using spectral radius estimates for bounded subsets in complete bornological $V$-algebras. This leads us to a functorial chain complex for commutative $k$-algebras that computes Berthelot's rigid cohomology. This chain complex is related to the periodic cyclic homology of certain complete bornological $V$-algebras.
We construct an algebraic commutative ring T- spectrum BO which is stably fibrant and (8,4)- periodic and such that on SmOp/S the cohomology theory (X,U) -> BO^{p,q}(X_{+}/U_{+}) and Schlichting's hermitian K-theory functor (X,U) -> KO^{[q]}_{2q-p}(X,U) are canonically isomorphic. We use the motivic weak equivalence Z x HGr -> KSp relating the infinite quaternionic Grassmannian to symplectic $K$-theory to equip BO with the structure of a commutative monoid in the motivic stable homotopy category. When the base scheme is Spec Z[1/2], this monoid structure and the induced ring structure on the c…
In this paper we describe a machinery for homological calculations of representations of FI_G, and use it to develop a local cohomology theory over any commutative Noetherian ring. As an application, we show that the depth introduced by the second author coincides with a more classical invariant from commutative algebra, and obtain upper bounds of a few important invariants of FI_G-modules in terms of torsion degrees of their local cohomology groups.
Building on work of Livernet and Richter, we prove that E_n-homology and E_n-cohomology of a commutative algebra with coefficients in a symmetric bimodule can be interpreted as functor homology and cohomology. Furthermore we show that the associated Yoneda algebra is trivial.
Let $\k$ be a commutative ring, and let $(A,\mfrak{a})$ be an adic ring which is a $\k$-algebra. We study complete and torsion versions of the derived Hochschild homology and cohomology functors of $A$ over $\k$. To do this, we first establish weak proregularity of certain ideals in flat base changes of noetherian rings. Next, we develop a theory of DG-affine formal schemes, extending the Greenlees-May duality and the MGM equivalence to this setting. Finally, we define complete and torsion derived Hochschild homology and cohomology functors in this setting, and show that if $\k$ is noetherian …
We show that the graded commutative ring structure of the Hochschild cohomology HH*(A) is trivial in case A is a triangular quadratic string algebra. Moreover, in case A isgentle, the Lie algebra structure on HH*(A) is also trivial.
We define cyclic cohomology of corings over not necessarily commutative algebras. We observe that the key fact which allows us to define this complex is that enveloping algebra of an algebra is a para Hopf algebroid. This observation enables us to define Hopf cyclic cohomology of corings on which para Hopf algebroids act.
We introduce a bicomplex which computes the triple cohomology of Lie--Rinehart algebras. We prove that the triple cohomology is isomorphic to the Rinehart cohomology \cite{Ri} provided the Lie--Rinehart algebra is projective over the corresponding commutative algebra. As an application we construct a canonical class in the third dimensional cohomology corresponding to an associative algebra.
We prove that $\mathrm{St}(n, A)$ is a crossed module over $\mathrm{GL}(n, A)$ under a local stable rank condition on an algebra $A$ over a commutative ring. Our proof uses only elementary localization techniques in terms of pro-groups and stability results for $\mathrm K_1$ and $\mathrm K_2$. We also prove similar result for the Steinberg group associated with any sufficiently isotropic general linear group constructed by a quasi-finite algebra.
We develop a simple theory of André-Quillen cohomology for commutative differential graded algebras over a field of characteristic zero. We then relate it to the homotopy groups of function spaces and spaces of homotopy self-equivalences of rational nilpotent $CW$-complexes. This puts certain results of Sullivan in a more conceptual framework.
We borrow ideas from Grothendieck duality theory to noncommutative algebra, and use them to prove a reduction result for Hochschild cohomology for noncommutative algebras which are finite over their center. This generalizes a result over commutative algebras by Avramov, Iyengar, Lipman and Nayak.
We introduce a version of the Cartier isomorphism for de Rham cohomology valid for associative, not necessarily commutative algebras over a field of positive characteristic. Using this, we imitate the well-known argument of P. Deligne and L. Iluusie and prove, in some cases, a conjecture of M. Kontsevich which claims that the Hodge-to-de Rham, a.k.a. Hochschild-to-cyclic spectral sequence degenerates.
The approach of Quillen to the cohomology of general algebraic systems is based on simplicial methods, which are usually quite hard to deal with. The aim of this work is to give the foundation of Shukla cohomology (of algebras over a commutative ring) based on chain algebras. We also give an application to the problem of strengthening additive track theories, which is based on the comparison homomorphism between Shukla and Mac Lane cohomology theories.
We consider the socle deformations arising from formal deformations of a class of Koszul self-injective special biserial algebras which occur in the study of the Drinfeld double of the generalized Taft algebras. We show, for these deformations, that the Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotence is a finitely generated commutative algebra of Krull dimension 2.
We study integer-graded cohomology rings defined over Calabi-Yau categories. We show that the cohomology in negative degree is a trivial extension of the cohomology ring in non-negative degree, provided the latter admits a regular sequence of central elements of length two. In particular, the product of elements of negative degrees are zero. As corollaries we apply this to Tate-Hochschild cohomology rings of symmetric algebras, and to Tate cohomology rings over group algebras. We also prove similar results for Tate cohomology rings over commutative local Gorenstein rings.
In this paper we address the following question: is it always possible to choose a deformation quantization of a Poisson algebra A so that certain Poisson-commutative subalgebra C in it remains commutative? We define a series of cohomological obstructions to this, that take values in the Hochschild cohomology of C with coefficients in A. In some particular case of the pair (A,C) we reduce these classes to the classes of the Poisson relative cohomology of the Hochschild cohomology. We show, that in the case, when the algebra C is polynomial, these obstructions coincide with the previously known…
