The authors lay the foundations for the study of normal families of holomorphic functions and mappings on an infinite-dimensional normed linear space. Characterizations of normal families, in terms of value distribution, spherical derivatives, and other geometric properties are derived. Montel-type theorems are established.
A number of different topologies on spaces of holomorphic mappings are considered. Theorems about normal families are formulated and proved in the language of these various topologies.
Normal functions are also introduced. Characterizations in terms of automorphisms and also in terms of invariant derivatives are presented.
The paper studies semi-almost periodic holomorphic functions on a polydisk which have, in a sense, the weakest possible discontinuities on the boundary torus. The basic result used in the proofs is an extension of the classical Bohr approximation theorem for almost periodic holomorphic functions on a strip to the case of Banach-valued almost periodic holomorphic functions.
A class of maps in a complex Banach space is studied, which includes both unbounded linear operators and nonlinear holomorphic maps. The defining property, which we call {\sl pseudo-contractivity}, is introduced by means of the Abel averages of such maps. We show that the studied maps are dissipative in the spirit of the classical Lumer-Phillips theorem. For pseudo-contractive holomorphic maps, we establish the power convergence of the Abel averages to holomorphic retractions.
Given a symbol $φ,$ i.e., a holomorphic endomorphism of the unit disc, we consider the composition operator $C_φ(f)=f\circφ$ defined on the Banach spaces of holomorphic functions $A(\mathbb{D})$ and $H^{\infty}(\mathbb{D})$. We obtain different conditions on the symbol $φ$ which characterize when the composition operator is mean ergodic and uniformly mean ergodic in the corresponding spaces. These conditions are related to the asymptotic behaviour of the iterates of the symbol. As an appendix, we deal with some particular case in the setting of weighted Banach spaces of holomorphic functions.
Some theorems on convex functions are proved and an application of these theorems in the theory of weighted Banach spaces of holomorphic functions is investigated, too. We prove that $H_v(G)$ and $H_{v_0}(G)$ are exactly the same spaces as $H_w(G)$ and $H_{w_0}(G)$ where $w$ is the smallest log-concave majorant of $v$. This investigation is based on the theory of convex functions and some specific properties of the weighted banach spaces of holomorphic functions under considaration and we do not use the theory of associated weights.
We investigate certain envelopes of open sets in dual Banach spaces which are related to extending holomorphic functions. We give a variety of examples of absolutely convex sets showing that the extension is in many cases not possible. We also establish connections to the study of iterated weak* sequential closures of convex sets in the dual of separable spaces.
In this article, we study the multi-dimensional Bohr radii of holomorphic functions defined on the Banach sequence spaces with values in the Banach spaces. For the case of finite dimensional Banach spaces, we exhibit the exact asymptotic growth of the Bohr radius. To achieve our goal in the finite case, we use $\ell_{p'}$-summability of certain coefficients of a given polynomial in terms of its uniform norm on $\ell_p^n$. The infinite case is handled using the techniques developed in recent years from the work of Defant, Maestre and Schwarting. We crucially use several properties of the symmet…
We show, e.g., that a holomorphic Banach vector bundle over a pseudoconvex open subset of, say, Hilbert space is holomorphically trivial if it is continuously trivial. Some applications are also given.
We study, to certain Banach spaces $X$, families of weighted composition operators. Notably, we show that if this family form a strongly continuous semigroup, then its infinitesimal generator ($Γ, D(Γ)$) is given by $Γf = gf+Gf^\prime$ with $D(Γ) = \{ f\in X \ | \ gf+Gf^\prime\in X \}$ where $g, G$ are holomorphic functions. Moreover, our second maim result is to study the reciprocal implication. That is if $(Γ, D(Γ))$, define like above, generate a strongly continuous semigroup, then this one is a family of weighted composition operators.
Let $X$ be a Banach holomorphic function space on the unit disk. A linear polynomial approximation scheme for $X$ is a sequence of bounded linear operators $T_n:X\to X$ with the property that, for each $f\in X$, the functions $T_n(f)$ are polynomials converging to $f$ in the norm of the space. We completely characterize those spaces $X$ that admit a linear polynomial approximation scheme. In particular, we show that it is NOT sufficient merely that polynomials be dense in $X$.
Given $\u$ a multiplicative sequence of polynomial ideals, we consider the associated algebra of holomorphic functions of bounded type, $H_{b\u}(E)$. We prove that, under very natural conditions verified by many usual classes of polynomials, the spectrum $M_{b\u}(E)$ of this algebra "behaves" like the classical case of $M_{b}(E)$ (the spectrum of $H_b(E)$, the algebra of bounded type holomorphic functions). More precisely, we prove that $M_{b\u}(E)$ can be endowed with a structure of Riemann domain over $E"$ and that the extension of each $f\in H_{b\u}(E)$ to the spectrum is an $\u$-holomorphi…
Let $B(Ω)$ be the Banach space of holomorphic functions on a bounded connected domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb C^n$, which contains the ring of polynomials on $Ω$. In this paper, we first establish a criterion for $B(Ω)$ to be reflexive via evaluation functions on $B(Ω)$, that is, $B(Ω)$ is reflexive if and only if the evaluation functions span the dual spaces $(B(Ω))^{*} $. Moreover, under suitable assumptions on $Ω$ and $B(Ω)$, we establish a characterization of the composition operator $C_φ$ to be a Fredholm operator on $B(Ω)$ via the property of the holomorphic self-map $φ:Ω\toΩ$. Our new approach …
We establish triviality of some holomorphic Banach vector bundles on the maximal ideal space of the Banach algebra of bounded holomorphic functions on the unit disk with pointwise multiplication and supremum norm. We apply the result to the study of the Sz.-Nagy operator corona problem.
We study Banach-valued holomorphic functions defined on open subsets of the maximal ideal space of the Banach algebra H^\infty of bounded holomorphic functions on the unit disk D\subset C with pointwise multiplication and supremum norm. In particular, we establish vanishing cohomology for sheaves of germs of such functions and, solving a Banach-valued corona problem for H^\infty, prove that the maximal ideal space of the algebra H_{\rm comp}^\infty (A) of holomorphic functions on $\Di$ with relatively compact images in a commutative unital complex Banach algebra A is homeomorphic to the direct…
In this paper we introduce a class of pseudo-dissipative holomorphic maps which contains, in particular, the class of infinitesimal generators of semigroups of holomorphic maps on the unit ball of a complex Banach space. We give a growth estimate for maps of this class. In particular, it follows that pseudo-dissipative maps on the unit ball of (infinite-dimensional) Banach spaces are bounded on each domain strictly contained inside the ball. We also present some applications.
This paper is motivated by Grothendieck's splitting theorem. In the 1960s, Gohberg generalized this to a class of Banach bundles. We consider a compact complex manifold $X$ and a holomorphic Banach bundle $E \to X$ that is a compact perturbation of a trivial bundle in a sense recently introduced by Lempert. We prove that $E$ splits into the sum of a finite rank bundle and a trivial bundle, provided $H^{1}(X, Ø)=0$.
We consider a compact complex manifold $M$, and introduce the notion of two holomorphic Banach bundles $E,F$ over $M$ being compact perturbations of one another. Given two such bundles we show that if the cohomology groups $H^q(M,E)$ are finite dimensional then so are the cohomology groups $H^q(M,F)$; as well as a more precise result in the same spirit.
Let $X$ be a separable Banach space and $u{:} X\to\Bbb{R}$ locally upper bounded. We show that there are a Banach space $Z$ and a holomorphic function $h{:} X\to Z$ with $u(x)<\|h(x)\|$ for $x\in X$. As a consequence we find that the sheaf cohomology group $H^q(X,\Cal{O})$ vanishes if $X$ has the bounded approximation property (i.e., $X$ is a direct summand of a Banach space with a Schauder basis), $\Cal{O}$ is the sheaf of germs of holomorphic functions on $X$, and $q\ge1$. As another consequence we prove that if $f$ is a $C^1$-smooth $\overline\partial$-closed $(0,1)$-form on the space $X=L_…
We consider weighted algebras of holomorphic functions on a Banach space. We determine conditions on a family of weights that assure that the corresponding weighted space is an algebra or has polynomial Schauder decompositions. We study the spectra of weighted algebras and endow them with an analytic structure. We also deal with composition operators and algebra homomorphisms, in particular to investigate how their induced mappings act on the analytic structure of the spectrum. Moreover, a Banach-Stone type question is addressed.
In this paper we introduce (weakly) root graded Banach--Lie algebras and corresponding Lie groups as natural generalizations of group like $\GL_n(A)$ for a Banach algebra $A$ or groups like $C(X,K)$ of continuous maps of a compact space $X$ into a complex semisimple Lie group $K$. We study holomorphic induction from holomorphic Banach representations of so-called parabolic subgroups $P$ to representations of $G$ on holomorphic sections of homogeneous vector bundles over $G/P$. One of our main results is an algebraic characterization of the space of sections which is used to show that this spac…
We show that if $X$ is a Banach space with a Schauder basis, $Ω\subset X$ is a pseudoconvex open subset, and $u:\,Ω\to(-\infty,\infty)$ is a locally bounded function, then there are a Banach space $Z$ and a holomorphic function $h:\,Ω\to Z$ with $u(x)<\|h(x)\|$ for all $x\inΩ$.
Let $ E $ be a space of holomorphic functions on the unit ball $ B_X $ of a Banach space $ X.$ In this work, we introduce a Banach structure associated to $ E $ on the linear space $ WE(Y) $ containing $ Y$-valued holomorphic functions on $ B_X $ such that $ w \circ f \in E $ for every $ w \in W, $ a separating subspace of the dual $ Y' $ of a Banach $ Y. $ We establish the relation between the boundedness, the (weak) compactness of the weighted composition operators $ W_{ψ,φ}: f\mapsto ψ\cdot(f \circ φ) $ on $ E $ and $ \widetilde{W}_{ψ,φ}: g\mapsto ψ\cdot(g \circ φ) $ on $ WE(Y)$ via some ch…
The numerical range of holomorphic mappings arises in many aspects of nonlinear analysis, finite and infinite dimensional holomorphy, and complex dynamical systems. In particular, this notion plays a crucial role in establishing exponential and product formulas for semigroups of holomorphic mappings, the study of flow invariance and range conditions, geometric function theory in finite and infinite dimensional Banach spaces, and in the study of complete and semi-complete vector fields and their applications to starlike and spirallike mappings, and to Bloch (univalence) radii for locally biholo…
We show that the holomorphic ideal sheaf of a linear section of a pseudoconvex open subset $Ω$ of, say, a Hilbert space $X=\ell_2$ is acyclic. We also prove an analog of Hefer's lemma, i.e., if $f:Ω\timesΩ\to\CC$ is holomorphic and $f(x,x)=0$ for $x\inΩ$, then there is a holomorphic $g:Ω\timesΩ\to X^*$ with values in the dual space $X^*$ of $X$ such that $f(x,y)=g(x,y)(x-y)$
We study the Banach algebras of bounded holomorphic functions on the unit disk whose boundary values, having, in a sense, the weakest possible discontinuities, belong to the algebra of semi-almost periodic functions on the unit circle. The latter algebra contains as a special case an algebra introduced by Sarason in connection with some problems in the theory of Toeplitz operators.
We give upper bounds of the numbers of holomorphic sections of Veech holomorphic families of Riemann surfaces. The numbers depend only on the topological types of base Riemann surfaces and fibers. We also show a relation between types of Veech groups and moduli of cylinder decompositions of flat surfaces.
We show that several spaces of holomorphic functions on a Riemann domain over a Banach space, including the nuclear and Hilbert-Schmidt bounded type, are locally $m$-convex Fréchet algebras. We prove that the spectrum of these algebras has a natural analytic structure, which we use to characterize the envelope of holomorphy. We also show a Cartan-Thullen type theorem.
The main purpose of this paper is to develop some methods to investigate the Schwarz type lemmas of holomorphic mappings and pluriharmonic mappings in Banach spaces. Initially, we extend the classical Schwarz lemmas of holomorphic mappings to Banach spaces, and then we apply these extensions to establish a sharp Bloch type theorem for pluriharmonic mappings on homogeneous unit balls of $\C^n$ and to obtain some sharp boundary Schwarz type lemmas for holomorphic mappings in Banach spaces. Furthermore, we improve and generalize the classical Schwarz lemmas of planar harmonic mappings into the sh…
Chapter 1 deals with the problem of the existence of an upper/lower envelope from a convex cone or, more generally, a convex set for functions on the projective limit of vector lattices with values in the completion of the Kantorovich space or on the extended real line. Vector, ordinal and topological dual interpretations of the existence conditions of such envelope and the method of its construction are given. Chapter 2 presents applications to the existence of a nontrivial (pluri)subharmonic and/or (pluri) harmonic minorant for functions in domains from finite-dimensional real or complex spa…
Let D be a relatively compact strongly pseudoconvex domain in a Stein manifold, and let Y be a complex manifold. We prove that the set A(D,Y), consisting of all continuous maps from the closure of D to Y which are holomorphic in D, is a complex Banach manifold. When D is the unit disc in C (or any other topologically trivial strongly pseudoconvex domain in a Stein manifold), A(D,Y) is locally modeled on the Banach space A(D,C^n)=A(D)^n with n=dim Y. Analogous results hold for maps which are holomorphic in D and of class C^r up to the boundary for any positive integer r. We also establish the O…
Let $S$ be a compact Hausdorff space and $X$ a complex manifold. We consider the space $C(S,X)$ of continuous maps $S\to X$, and prove that any bounded holomorphic function on this space can be continued to a holomorphic function, possibly multivalued, on a larger space $B(S,X)$ of Borel maps. As an application we prove two theorems about bounded holomorphic functions on $C(S,X)$, one reminiscent of the Monodromy Theorem, the other of Liouville's Theorem.
We build measurable holomorphic motions for Julia sets of holomorphic families of endomorphisms of CP(k) under various equivalent notions of stability.
We explore the convergence of Kergin interpolation polynomials of holomorphic functions in Banach spaces, which need not be of bounded type. We also investigate a case where the Kergin series diverges.
We construct holomorphic families of proper holomorphic embeddings of $\C^k$ into $\C^n$ ($0<k<n-1$), so that for any two different parameters in the family no holomorphic automorphism of $\C^n$ can map the image of the corresponding two embeddings onto each other. As an application to the study of the group of holomorphic automorphisms of $\C^n$ we derive the existence of families of holomorphic $\C^*$-actions on $\C^n$ ($n\ge 5$) so that different actions in the family are not conjugate. This result is surprising in view of the long standing Holomorphic Linearization Problem, which in partic…
We study a "$p$-powered" version $K_n^p(F(R))$ of the well-known Bohr radius problem for the family $F(R)$ of holomorphic functions $f: R\to X$ satisfying $\|f\|<\infty$, where $\|.\|$ is a norm in the function space $F(R)$, $R\subset\mathbb{C}^n$ is a complete Reinhardt domain and $X$ is a complex Banach space. For all $p>0$, we describe in full details the asymptotic behaviour of $K_n^p(F(R))$, where $F(R)$ is (a) the Hardy space of $X$-valued holomorphic functions defined in the open unit polydisk $\mathbb{D}^n$, and (b) the space of bounded $X$-valued holomorphic or complex-valued plurihar…
We study the cluster value problem for certain Banach algebras of holomorphic functions defined on the unit ball of a complex Banach space X. The main results are for spaces of the form X = C(K).
We study the differential equation $\frac{\partial G}{\partial\bar z}=g$ with an unbounded Banach-valued Bochner measurable function $g$ on the open unit disk $\mathbb D\subset\mathbb C$. We prove that under some conditions on the growth and essential support of $g$ such equation has a bounded solution given by a continuous linear operator. The obtained results are applicable to the Banach-valued corona problem for the algebra of bounded holomorphic functions on $\mathbb D$ with values in a complex commutative unital Banach algebra.
The aim of these lectures is the study of bifurcations within holomorphic families of polynomials or rational maps by mean of ergodic and pluripotential theoretic tools.
In this paper, we construct holomorphic families of Riemann surfaces from Veech groups and characterize their sections by some points of corresponding flat surfaces. The construction gives us concrete solutions for some Diophantine equations over function fields. Moreover, we give upper bounds of the numbers of holomorphic sections of certain holomorphic families of Riemann surfaces.
We construct a holomorphically varying family of complex surfaces X_s, parametrized by the points s in any Stein manifold, such that every X_s is a long C^2 which is biholomorphic to C^2 for some but not all values of s.
We prove a Zalcman-Pang lemma in several complex variables and apply it to obtain several complex variables analogues of the known normality criteria like Lappan's five-point theorem and Schwick's theorem.
In this paper, we first obtain a refined version of the Bohr inequality of norm-type for holomorphic mappings with lacunary series on the polydisk in $\mathbb{C}^n$ under some restricted conditions. Next, we determine the refined version of the Bohr inequality for holomorphic functions defined on a balanced domain $ G $ of a complex Banach space $ X $ and take values from the unit disk $ \mathbb{D} $. Furthermore, as a consequence of one of this results, we obtain a refined version of the Bohr-type inequalities for harmonic functions $ f=h+\bar{g} $ defined on a balanced domain $ G\subset X $.…
Let $\mathbb{B}^2$ denote the open unit ball in $\mathbb{C}^2$, and let $p\in \mathbb{C}^2\setminus\overline{\mathbb{B}^2}$. We prove that if $f$ is an analytic function on the sphere $\partial\mathbb{B}^2$ that extends holomorphically in each variable separately and along each complex line through $p$, then $f$ is the trace of a holomorphic function in the ball.
We study Picard's exceptional values of holomorphic one-parametric families of entire functions. Our first result shows that the set of parameter values for which zero is a Picard value can be an arbitrary closed set of zero logarithmic capacity. This answers a question of Julia. Second, we show that if a function has a Picard exceptional value for all values of parameter in some region of the plane then this Picard value is a holomorphic function in the complement of some discrete set E, tending to infinity as the papameter tends to E.
It is known that if f is a continuous function on the complex plane which extends holomorphically from each circle surrounding the origin then f is not necessarily holomorphic. In the paper we prove that if, in addition, f extends holomorphically from each circle belonging to an open family of circles which do not surround the origin then f is holomorphic.
