We study the local structure of Lie bialgebroids at regular points. In particular, we classify all transitive Lie bialgebroids. In special cases, they are connected to classical dynamical $r$-matrices and matched pairs induced by Poisson group actions
We define a general notion of abstract double Lie algebroid. We show (1) that the double Lie algebroid of a double Lie groupoid is a double Lie algebroid in this sense; (2) that the double cotangent constructed from Lie algebroid structures on a vector bundle A and its dual A* is a double Lie algebroid if and only if (A, A*) is a Lie bialgebroid; (3) that a vacant double Lie algebroid structure is equivalent to a matched pair structure on the side Lie algebroids.
The notion of a generalized Lie bialgebroid (a generalization of the notion of a Lie bialgebroid) is introduced in such a way that a Jacobi manifold has associated a canonical generalized Lie bialgebroid. As a kind of converse, we prove that a Jacobi structure can be defined on the base space of a generalized Lie bialgebroid. We also show that it is possible to construct a Lie bialgebroid from a generalized Lie bialgebroid and, as a consequence, we deduce a duality theorem. Finally, some special classes of generalized Lie bialgebroids are considered: triangular generalized Lie bialgebroids and…
We define multiplicative Poisson-Nijenhuis structures on a Lie groupoid which extends the notion of symplectic-Nijenhuis groupoid introduced by Stié23non and Xu. We also introduce a special class of Lie bialgebroid structure on a Lie algebroid $A$, called P-N Lie bialgebroid, which defines a hierarchy of compatible Lie bialgebroid structures on $A$. We show that under some topological assumption on the groupoid, there is a one-to-one correspondence between multiplicative Poisson-Nijenhuis structures on a Lie groupoid and P-N Lie bialgebroid structures on the corresponding Lie algebroid.
We describe infinitesimally Dirac groupoids via geometric objects that we call Dirac bialgebroids. In the two well-understood special cases of Poisson and presymplectic groupoids, the Dirac bialgebroids are equivalent to the Lie bialgebroids and IM-$2$-forms, respectively. In the case of multiplicative involutive distributions on Lie groupoids, we find new properties of infinitesimal ideal systems.
Jacobi groupoids are introduced as a generalization of Poisson and contact groupoids and it is proved that generalized Lie bialgebroids are the infinitesimal invariants of Jacobi groupoids. Several examples are discussed.
We prove that under certain mild assumptions a Lie bialgebroid integrates to a Poisson groupoid. This includes, in particular, a new proof of the existence of local symplectic groupoids for any Poisson manifold, a theorem of Karasev and of Weinstein.
An alternative proof of the duality of generalized Lie bialgebroid is given and proved a canonical Jacobi structure can be defined on the base of it. We also introduce the notion of morphism between generalized Lie bialgebroids and proved that the induced Jacobi structure is unique upto a morphism.
In this paper, first we modify the definition of a Hom-Lie algebroid introduced by Laurent-Gengoux and Teles and give its equivalent dual description. Many results that parallel to Lie algebroids are given. In particular, we give the notion of a Hom-Poisson manifold and show that there is a Hom-Lie algebroid structure on the pullback of the cotangent bundle of a Hom-Poisson manifold. Then we give the notion of a Hom-Lie bialgebroid, which is a natural generalization of a purely Hom-Lie bialgebra and a Lie bialgebroid. We show that the base manifold of a Hom-Lie bialgebroid is a Hom-Poisson man…
Contractions of Leibniz algebras and Courant algebroids by means of (1,1)-tensors are introduced and studied. An appropriate version of Nijenhuis tensors leads to natural deformations of Dirac structures and Lie bialgebroids. One recovers presymplectic-Nijenhuis structures, Poisson-Nijenhuis structures, and triangular Lie bialgebroids as particular examples.
This paper investigates higher order generalizations of well known results for Lie algebroids and bialgebroids. It is proved that $n$-Lie algebroid structures correspond to $n$-ary generalization of Gerstenhaber algebras and are implied by $n$-ary generalization of linear Poisson structures on the dual bundle. A Nambu-Poisson manifold (of order $n>2$) gives rise to a special bialgebroid structure which is referred to as a weak Lie-Filippov bialgebroid (of order $n$). It is further demonstrated that such bialgebroids canonically induce a Nambu-Poisson structure on the base manifold. Finally, th…
We generalize to the homotopy case a result of K. Mackenzie and P. Xu on relation between Lie bialgebroids and Poisson geometry. For a homotopy Poisson structure on a supermanifold $M$, we show that $(TM, T^*M)$ has a canonical structure of an $L_{\infty}$-bialgebroid. (Higher Koszul brackets on forms introduced earlier by H. Khudaverdian and the author are part of one of its manifestations.) The underlying general construction is that of a "(quasi)triangular" $L_{\infty}$-bialgebroid, which is a specialization of a "(quasi)triangular" homotopy Poisson structure. We define both here.
A well-known result of A. Vaintrob characterizes Lie algebroids and their morphisms in terms of homological vector fields on supermanifolds. We give an interpretation of Lie bialgebroids and their morphisms in terms of odd symplectic dg-manifolds, building on the approach of D. Roytenberg. This extends naturally to the homotopy Lie case and leads to the notion of $L_\infty$-bialgebroids and $L_\infty$-morphisms between them.
We study quasi-Jacobi and Jacobi-quasi bialgebroids and their relationships with twisted Jacobi and quasi Jacobi manifolds. We show that we can construct quasi-Lie bialgebroids from quasi-Jacobi bialgebroids, and conversely, and also that the structures induced on their base manifolds are related via a quasi Poissonization.
The word `double' was used by Ehresmann to mean `an object X in the category of all X'. Double categories, double groupoids and double vector bundles are instances, but the notion of Lie algebroid cannot readily be doubled in the Ehresmann sense, since a Lie algebroid bracket cannot be defined diagrammatically. In this paper we use the duality of double vector bundles to define a notion of double Lie algebroid, and we show that this abstracts the infinitesimal structure (at second order) of a double Lie groupoid. We further show that the cotangent of either Lie algebroid in a Lie bialgebroid h…
We propose a definition of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis Lie algebroids as a natural generalization of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis manifolds and show that any such Lie algebroid has an associated quasi-Lie bialgebroid. Therefore, also an associated Courant algebroid is obtained. We introduce the notion of a morphism of quasi-Lie bialgebroids and of the induced Courant algebroids morphism and provide some examples of Courant algebroid morphisms. Finally, we use paired operators to deform doubles of Lie and quasi-Lie bialgebroids and find an application to generalized complex geometry.
We define \textit{graded manifolds} as a version of supermanifolds endowed with an additional $\mathbb Z$-grading in the structure sheaf, called \textit{weight} (not linked with parity). Examples are ordinary supermanifolds, vector bundles over supermanifolds, double vector bundles, iterated constructions like $TTM$, etc. I give a construction of \textit{doubles} for \textit{graded} $QS$- and \textit{graded $QP$-manifolds} (graded manifolds endowed with a homological vector field and a Schouten/Poisson bracket). Relation is explained with Drinfeld's Lie bialgebras and their doubles. Graded $QS…
We study some properties of coisotropic submanifolds of a manifold with respect to a given multivector field. Using this notion, we generalize the results of Weinstein \cite{wein} from Poisson bivector field to Nambu-Poisson tensor or more generally to any multivector field. We also introduce the notion of Nambu-Lie groupoid generalizing the concepts of both Poisson-Lie groupoid and Nambu-Lie group. We show that the infinitesimal version of Nambu-Lie groupoid is the notion of weak Lie-Filippov bialgebroid as introduced in \cite{bas-bas-das-muk}. Next we introduce coisotropic subgroupoids of a …
On the level of Lie algebras, the contraction procedure is a method to create a new Lie algebra from a given Lie algebra by rescaling generators and letting the scaling parameter tend to zero. One of the most well-known examples is the contraction from su(2) to e(2), the Lie algebra of upper-triangular matrices with zero trace and purely imaginary diagonal. In this paper, we will consider an extension of this contraction by taking also into consideration the natural bialgebra structures on these Lie algebras. This will give a bundle of central extensions of the above Lie algebras with a Lie bi…
In these lecture notes, we give a quick account of the theory of Poisson groupoids and Lie bialgebroids. In particular, we discuss the universal lifting theorem and its applications including integration of quasi-Lie bialgebroids, integration of Poisson Nijenhuis structures and Alekseev and Kosmann-Schwarzbach's theory of D/G-momentum maps.
We study twisted Jacobi manifolds, a concept that we had introduced in a previous Note. Twisted Jacobi manifolds can be characterized using twisted Dirac-Jacobi, which are sub-bundles of Courant-Jacobi algebroids. We show that each twisted Jacobi manifold has an associated Lie algebroid with a 1-cocycle. We introduce the notion of quasi-Jacobi bialgebroid and we prove that each twisted Jacobi manifold has a quasi-Jacobi bialgebroid canonically associated. Moreover, the double of a quasi-Jacobi bialgebroid is a Courant-Jacobi algebroid. Several examples of twisted Jacobi manifolds and twisted D…
In his study of Dirac structures, a notion which includes both Poisson structures and closed 2-forms, T. Courant introduced a bracket on the direct sum of vector fields and 1-forms. This bracket does not satisfy the Jacobi identity except on certain subspaces. In this paper we systematize the properties of this bracket in the definition of a Courant algebroid. This structure on a vector bundle $E\rightarrow M$, consists of an antisymmetric bracket on the sections of $E$ whose ``Jacobi anomaly'' has an explicit expression in terms of a bundle map $E\rightarrow TM$ and a field of symmetric bilin…
Motivated by a search for Lie group structures on groups of Poisson diffeomorphisms [24], we investigate linearizability of Poisson structures of Poisson groupoids around the unit section. After extending the Lagrangian neighbourhood theorem to the setting of cosymplectic Lie algebroids, we establish that dual integrations of triangular bialgebroids are always linearizable. Additionally, we show that the (non-dual) integration of a triangular Lie bialgebroid is linearizable whenever the $r$-matrix is of so-called cosymplectic type. The proof relies on the integration of a triangular Lie bialge…
Given a pair of (real or complex) Lie algebroid structures on a vector bundle $A$ (over $M$) and its dual $A^*$, and a line bundle $\module$ such that $\module\otimes\module=(\wedge^{\TOP} A^*\otimes\wedge^{\TOP} T^*M)$, there exist two canonically defined differential operators $\bdees$ and $\bdel$ on $\sections{\wedge A\otimes\module}$. We prove that the pair $(A,A^*)$ constitutes a Lie bialgebroid if, and only if, the square of $\bdirac =\bdees+\bdel$ is the multiplication by a function on $M$. As a consequence, we obtain that the pair $(A,A^*)$ is a Lie bialgebroid if, and only if, $\bdira…
We first recall some basic definitions and facts about Jacobi manifolds, generalized Lie bialgebroids, generalized Courant algebroids and Dirac structures. We establish an one-one correspondence between reducible Dirac structures of the generalized Lie bialgebroid of a Jacobi manifold $(M,Λ,E)$ for which 1 is an admissible function and Jacobi quotient manifolds of $M$. We study Jacobi reductions from the point of view of Dirac structures theory and we present some examples and applications.
Let $(G\rr P, \mathsf D_G)$ be a Dirac groupoid. We show that there are natural Lie algebroid structures on the units $\lie A(\mathsf D_G)$ and on the core $I^\tg(\mathsf D_G)$ of the multiplicative Dirac structure. In the Poisson case, the Lie algebroid $A^*G$ is isomorphic to $\lie A(\mathsf D_G)$ and in the case of a closed 2-form, the $IM$-2-form is equivalent to the core algebroid that we find. We construct a vector bundle $\lie B(\mathsf D_G)\to P$ associated to any (almost) Dirac structure. In the Dirac case, $\lie B(\mathsf D_G)$ has the structure of a Courant algebroid that generalize…
In this paper, we construct a homotopy Poisson algebra of degree 3 associated to a split Lie 2-algebroid, by which we give a new approach to characterize a split Lie 2-bialgebroid. We develop the differential calculus associated to a split Lie 2-algebroid and establish the Manin triple theory for split Lie 2-algebroids. More precisely, we give the notion of a strict Dirac structure and define a Manin triple for split Lie 2-algebroids to be a CLWX 2-algebroid with two transversal strict Dirac structures. We show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between Manin triples for split Lie 2-alg…
In this dissertation we study Courant algebroids, objects that first appeared in the work of T. Courant on Dirac structures; they were later studied by Liu, Weinstein and Xu who used Courant algebroids to generalize the notion of the Drinfeld double to Lie bialgebroids. As a first step towards understanding the complicated properties of Courant algebroids, we interpret them by associating to each Courant algebroid a strongly homotopy Lie algebra in a natural way. Next, we propose an alternative construction of the double of a Lie bialgebroid as a homological hamiltonian vector field on an even…
We introduce the notion of hypersymplectic structure on a Courant algebroid and we prove the existence of a one-to-one correspondence between hypersymplectic and hyperkähler structures. This correspondence provides a simpler way to define a hyperkähler structure on a Courant algebroid. We show that hypersymplectic structures on Courant algebroids encompass hyperkähler and hyperkähler structures with torsion on Lie algebroids. In the latter, the torsion existing at the Lie algebroid level is incorporated in the Courant structure. Cases of hypersymplectic structures on Courant algebroids which a…
This paper studies linear generalised complex structures over vector bundles, as a generalised geometry version of holomorphic vector bundles. In an adapted linear splitting, a linear generalised complex structure on a vector bundle $E\to M$ is equivalent to a $\mathbb C$-multiplication $j$ in the fibers of $TM\oplus E^*$ and $\mathbb C$-Lie algebroid structure on $TM\oplus E^*$. Generalised complex Lie algebroids (or Glanon algebroids) are then studied in this context, and expressed as a pair of complex conjugated Lie bialgebroids.
We study integrability of generalized almost contact structures, and find conditions under which the main associated maximal isotropic vector bundles form Lie bialgebroids. These conditions differentiate the concept of generalized contact structures from a counterpart of generalized complex structures on odd-dimensional manifolds. We name the latter strong generalized contact structures. Using a Boothby-Wang construction bridging symplectic structures and contact structures, we find examples to demonstrate that, within the category of generalized contact structures, classical contact structure…
We define the Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structures with background on Lie algebroids and we prove that to any generalized complex structure on a Courant algebroid which is the double of a Lie algebroid is associated such a structure. We prove that any Lie algebroid with a Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structure with background constitutes, with its dual, a quasi-Lie bialgebroid. We also prove that any pair $(π,ω)$ of a Poisson bivector and a 2-form induces a Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structure with background and we observe that particular cases correspond to already known compatibilities between $π$ an…
We study generalized Lie bialgebroids over a single point, that is, generalized Lie bialgebras. Lie bialgebras are examples of generalized Lie bialgebras. Moreover, we prove that the last ones can be considered as the infinitesimal invariants of Lie groups endowed with a certain type of Jacobi structures. We also propose a method to obtain generalized Lie bialgebras. It is a generalization of the Yang-Baxter equation method. Finally, we describe the structure of a compact generalized Lie bialgebra.
Courant algebroids are structures which include as examples the doubles of Lie bialgebras and the direct sum of tangent and cotangent bundles with the bracket introduced by T. Courant for the study of Dirac structures. Within the category of Courant algebroids one can construct the doubles of Lie bialgebroids, the infinitesimal objects for Poisson groupoids. We show that Courant algebroids can be considered as strongly homotopy Lie algebras.
We introduce Poisson double algebroids, and the equivalent concept of double Lie bialgebroid, which arise as second-order infinitesimal counterparts of Poisson double groupoids. We develop their underlying Lie theory, showing how these objects are related by differentiation and integration. We use these results to revisit Lie 2-bialgebras by means of Poisson double structures.
We show how to extend the construction of Tulczyjew triples to Lie algebroids via graded manifolds. We also provide a generalisation of triangular Lie bialgebroids as higher Poisson and Schouten structures on Lie algebroids.
The purpose of this paper is to establish a connection between various subjects such as dynamical r-matrices, Lie bialgebroids, and Lagrangian subalgebras. Our method relies on the theory of Dirac structures developed in dg-ga/9508013 and dg-ga/9611001. In particular, we give a new method of classifying dynamical r-matrices of simple Lie algebras $\frak g$, and prove that dynamical r-matrices are in one-one correspondence with certain Lagrangian subalgebras of ${\frak g}\oplus \frak g$.
In this paper, we develop the theory of Hom-Lie algebroids, Hom-Lie bialgebroids and Hom-Courant algebroids introduced by Cai, Liu and Sheng. Specifically, we introduce the notions of Hom-Poisson, Hom-Nijenhuis and Hom-Poisson-Nijenhuis structures on a Hom-Lie algebroid and the notion of Hom-Dirac structures on a Hom-Courant algebroid. We show that these structures satisfy similar properties to structures non "Hom-"version. For example, there exists the hierarchy of a Hom-Poisson-Nijenhuis structure and we have a relation between Hom-Dirac structures and Maurer-Cartan type equation. Moreover w…
A notion of an algebroid - a generalization of a Lie algebroid structure is introduced. We show that many objects of the differential calculus on a manifold M associated with the canonical Lie algebroid structure on T^M can be obtained in the framework of a general algebroid. Also a compatibility condition which leads, in general, to a concept of a bialgebroid.
In this paper we introduce multiplicative Dirac structures on Lie groupoids, providing a unified framework to study both multiplicative Poisson bivectors (i.e., Poisson group(oid)s) and multiplicative closed 2-forms (e.g., symplectic groupoids). We prove that for every source simply connected Lie groupoid $G$ with Lie algebroid $AG$, there exists a one-to-one correspondence between multiplicative Dirac structures on $G$ and Dirac structures on $AG$, which are compatible with both the linear and algebroid structures of $AG$. We explain in what sense this extends the integration of Lie bialgebro…
Jacobi algebroids, that is graded Lie brackets on the Grassmann algebra associated with a vector bundle which satisfy a property similar to that of the Jacobi brackets, are introduced. They turn out to be equivalent to generalized Lie algebroids in the sense of Iglesias and Marrero and can be viewed also as odd Jacobi brackets on the supermanifolds associated with the vector bundles. Jacobi bialgebroids are defined in the same manner. A lifting procedure of elements of this Grassmann algebra to multivector fields on the total space of the vector bundle which preserves the corresponding bracket…
We prove that the cotangent of a double Lie groupoid S has itself a double groupoid structure with sides the duals of associated Lie algebroids, and double base the dual of the Lie algebroid of the core of S. Using this, we prove a result outlined by Weinstein in 1988, that the side groupoids of a general symplectic double groupoid are Poisson groupoids in duality. Further, we prove that any double Lie groupoid gives rise to a pair of Poisson groupoids (and thus of Lie bialgebroids) in duality. To handle the structures involved effectively we extend to this context the dualities and canonical …
Omni-Lie algebroids are generalizations of Alan Weinstein's omni-Lie algebras. A Dirac structure in an omni-Lie algebroid $\dev E\oplus \jet E$ is necessarily a Lie algebroid together with a representation on $E$. We study the geometry underlying these Dirac structures in the light of reduction theory. In particular, we prove that there is a one-to-one correspondence between reducible Dirac structures and projective Lie algebroids in $\huaT=TM\oplus E$; we establish the relation between the normalizer $N_{L}$ of a reducible Dirac structure $L$ and the derivation algebra $\Der(\pomnib (L))$ of …
In this paper, we give the notion of a CLWX 2-algebroid and show that a QP-structure of degree 3 gives rise to a CLWX 2-algebroid. This is the higher analogue of the result that a QP-structure of degree 2 gives rise to a Courant algebroid. A CLWX 2-algebroid can also be viewed as a categorified Courant algebroid. We show that one can obtain a Lie 3-algebra from a CLWX 2-algebroid. Furthermore, CLWX 2-algebroids are constructed from split Lie 2-algebroids and split Lie 2-bialgebroids.
We look at Poisson geometry taking the viewpoint of singular foliations, understood as suitable submodules generated by Hamiltonian vector fields rather than partitions into (symplectic) leaves. The class of Poisson structures which behave best from this point of view, are those whose submodule generated by Hamiltonian vector fields arises from a smooth holonomy groupoid. We call them almost regular Poisson structures and determine them completely. They include regular Poisson and log symplectic manifolds, as well as several other Poisson structures whose symplectic foliation presents singular…
We study local Lie algebras of pairs of functions which generate infinitesimal symmetries of almost-cosymplectic-contact structures of odd dimensional manifolds.
This thesis treats two main topics: calibrated symplectic foliations, and local Lie groupoids. Calibrated symplectic foliations are one possible generalization of taut foliations of 3-manifolds to higher dimensions. Their study has been popular in recent years, and we collect several interesting results. We then show how de Rham's theory of currents, and Sullivan's theory of structure currents, can be applied in trying to understand the calibratability of symplectic foliations. Our study of local Lie groupoids begins with their definition and an exploration of some of their basic properties. N…
