Given a pair of (real or complex) Lie algebroid structures on a vector bundle $A$ (over $M$) and its dual $A^*$, and a line bundle $\module$ such that $\module\otimes\module=(\wedge^{\TOP} A^*\otimes\wedge^{\TOP} T^*M)$, there exist two canonically defined differential operators $\bdees$ and $\bdel$ on $\sections{\wedge A\otimes\module}$. We prove that the pair $(A,A^*)$ constitutes a Lie bialgebroid if, and only if, the square of $\bdirac =\bdees+\bdel$ is the multiplication by a function on $M$. As a consequence, we obtain that the pair $(A,A^*)$ is a Lie bialgebroid if, and only if, $\bdirac$ is a Dirac generating operator as defined by Alekseev & Xu \cite{AlekseevXu}. Our approach is to establish a list of new identities relating the Lie algebroid structures on $A$ and $A^*$ (Theorem \ref{Thm:C}).
In this paper, we introduce the notion of a left-symmetric bialgebroid as a geometric generalization of a left-symmetric bialgebra and construct a left-symmetric bialgebroid from a pseudo-Hessian manifold. We also introduce the notion of a Manin triple for left-symmetric algebroids, which is equivalent to a left-symmetric bialgebroid. The corresponding double structure is a pre-symplectic algebroid rather than a left-symmetric algebroid. In particular, we establish a relation between Maurer-Cartan type equations and Dirac structures of the pre-symplectic algebroid which is the corresponding do…
A classical theorem of Drinfel'd states that the category of simply connected Poisson Lie groups H is isomorphic to the category of Manin triples (d, g, h), where h is the Lie algebra of H. In this paper, we consider Dirac Lie groups, that is, Lie groups H endowed with a multiplicative Courant algebroid A and a Dirac structure E /subset A for which the multiplication is a Dirac morphism. It turns out that the simply connected Dirac Lie groups are classified by so-called Dirac Manin triples. We give an explicit construction of the Dirac Lie group structure defined by a Dirac Manin triple, and d…
A well known result of Drinfeld classifies Poisson Lie groups $(H,Π)$ in terms of Lie algebraic data in the form of Manin triples $(\mathfrak{d},\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h})$; he also classified compatible Poisson structures on $H$-homogeneous spaces $H/K$ in terms of Lagrangian subalgebras $\mathfrak{l}\subset\mathfrak{d}$ with $\mathfrak{l}\cap\mathfrak{h}=\mathfrak{k}=\mathrm{Lie}(K)$. Using the language of Courant algebroids and groupoids, Li-Bland and Meinrenken formalized the notion of \emph{Dirac Lie groups} and classified them in terms of so-called "$H$-equivariant Dirac Manin triples" $…
We introduce the notion of Hamiltonian spaces for Manin pairs over manifolds, using the so-called generalized Dirac structures. As an example, we describe Hamiltonian spaces of a quasi-Lie bialgebroid using this general framework. We also discuss reduction of Hamiltonian spaces of this general type.
We reformulate notions from the theory of quasi-Poisson g-manifolds in terms of graded Poisson geometry and graded Poisson-Lie groups and prove that quasi-Poisson g-manifolds integrate to quasi-Hamiltonian g-groupoids. We then interpret this result within the theory of Dirac morphisms and multiplicative Manin pairs, to connect our work with more traditional approaches, and also to put it into a wider context suggesting possible generalizations.
In his study of Dirac structures, a notion which includes both Poisson structures and closed 2-forms, T. Courant introduced a bracket on the direct sum of vector fields and 1-forms. This bracket does not satisfy the Jacobi identity except on certain subspaces. In this paper we systematize the properties of this bracket in the definition of a Courant algebroid. This structure on a vector bundle $E\rightarrow M$, consists of an antisymmetric bracket on the sections of $E$ whose ``Jacobi anomaly'' has an explicit expression in terms of a bundle map $E\rightarrow TM$ and a field of symmetric bilin…
In this paper, we construct a homotopy Poisson algebra of degree 3 associated to a split Lie 2-algebroid, by which we give a new approach to characterize a split Lie 2-bialgebroid. We develop the differential calculus associated to a split Lie 2-algebroid and establish the Manin triple theory for split Lie 2-algebroids. More precisely, we give the notion of a strict Dirac structure and define a Manin triple for split Lie 2-algebroids to be a CLWX 2-algebroid with two transversal strict Dirac structures. We show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between Manin triples for split Lie 2-alg…
We study Dirac structures associated with Manin pairs (\d,\g) and give a Dirac geometric approach to Hamiltonian spaces with D/G-valued moment maps, originally introduced by Alekseev and Kosmann-Schwarzbach in terms of quasi-Poisson structures. We explain how these two distinct frameworks are related to each other, proving that they lead to isomorphic categories of Hamiltonian spaces. We stress the connection between the viewpoint of Dirac geometry and equivariant differential forms. The paper discusses various examples, including q-Hamiltonian spaces and Poisson-Lie group actions, explaining …
To a finite, connected, unoriented graph of Betti-number g>=2 and valencies >=3 we associate a finitely summable, commutative spectral triple (in the sense of Connes), whose induced zeta functions encode the graph. This gives another example where non-commutative geometry provides a rigid framework for classification.
Based on the observation that Cacic [10]'s characterization of almost commutative spectral triples as Clifford module bundles can be pushed to endomorphim algebras of Dirac bundles, with the geometric Dirac operator related to the Dirac operator of the spectral triple by a perturbation, the question of complete positivity of the heat semigroups generated by connection laplacian and Dirac and Kostant's cubic Dirac laplacians is approached using spin geometry and C *-Dirichlet forms. The geometric heat semigroups for on endomorphosm algebras of spinor bundles are shown to be quantum dynamical se…
We construct a canonical noncommutative spectral triple for every oriented closed Riemannian manifold, which represents the fundamental class in the twisted K-homology of the manifold. This so-called "projective spectral triple" is Morita equivalent to the well-known commutative spin spectral triple provided that the manifold is spin-c. We give an explicit local formula for the twisted Chern character for K-theories twisted with torsion classes, and with this formula we show that the twisted Chern character of the projective spectral triple is identical to the Poincaré dual of the A-hat genus …
The notion of a Kähler structure for a differential calculus was recently introduced by the second author as a framework in which to study the noncommutative geometry of the quantum flag manifolds. It was subsequently shown that any covariant positive definite Kähler structure has a canonically associated triple satisfying, up to the compact resolvent condition, Connes' axioms for a spectral triple. In this paper we begin the development of a robust framework in which to investigate the compact resolvent condition, and moreover, the general spectral behaviour of covariant Kähler structures. Th…
It is the aim of this work to study product structures on four dimensional solvable Lie algebras. We determine all possible paracomplex structures and consider the case when one of the subalgebras is an ideal. These results are applied to the case of Manin triples and complex product structures. We also analyze the three dimensional subalgebras.
In this paper, we introduce the notion of $E$-Courant algebroids, where $E$ is a vector bundle. It is a kind of generalized Courant algebroid and contains Courant algebroids, Courant-Jacobi algebroids and omni-Lie algebroids as its special cases. We explore novel phenomena exhibited by $E$-Courant algebroids and provide many examples. We study the automorphism groups of omni-Lie algebroids and classify the isomorphism classes of exact $E$-Courant algebroids. In addition, we introduce the concepts of $E$-Lie bialgebroids and Manin triples.
In this work, we use the Sternberg phase space (which may be considered as the classical phase space of particles in gauge fields) in order to explore the dynamics of such particles in the context of Hamilton-Dirac systems and their associated Hamilton-Pontryagin variational principles. For this, we develop an analogue of the Pontryagin bundle in the case of the Sternberg phase space. Moreover, we show the link of this new bundle to the so-called magnetized Tulczyjew triple, which is an analogue of the link between the Pontryagin bundle and the usual Tulczyjew triple. Taking advantage of the s…
The article deals with intrinsic metrics, Dirac operators and spectral triples induced by regular Dirichlet and resistance forms. We show, in particular, that if a local resistance form is given and the space is compact in resistance metric, then the intrinsic metric yields a geodesic space. Given a regular Dirichlet form, we consider Dirac operators within the framework of differential 1-forms proposed by Cipriani and Sauvageot, and comment on its spectral properties. If the Dirichlet form admits a carré operator and the generator has discrete spectrum, then we can construct a related spectra…
