Let S be a bordered Riemann surface with genus g and m boundary components. For a smooth family of smooth Jordan curves in the complex plane parametrized by the boundary of S and such that all curves contain 0 in their interior we show that there exists a holomorphic solution of the corresponding Riemann-Hilbert problem with at most 2g+m-1 zeros on S.
Let $\D$ be the unit disk. Kutzschebauch and Studer \cite{KS} recently proved that, for each continuous map $A:\overline D\to \mathrm{SL}(2,\C)$, which is holomorphic in $\D$, there exist continuous maps $E,F:\overline \D\to \mathfrak{sl}(2,\C)$, which are holomorphic in $\D$, such that $A=e^Ee^F$. Also they asked if this extends to arbitrary compact bordered Riemann surfaces. We prove that this is possible.
Let $Σ$ be a Riemann surface of genus $g$ bordered by $n$ curves homeomorphic to the circle $\mathbb{S}^1$, and assume that $2g+2-n>0$. For such bordered Riemann surfaces, the authors have previously defined a Teichmüller space which is a Hilbert manifold and which is holomorphically included in the standard Teichmüller space. Based on this, we present alternate models of the aforementioned Teichmüller space and show in particular that it is locally modelled on a Hilbert space of $L^2$ Beltrami differentials, which are holomorphic up to a power of the hyperbolic metric, and has a convergent We…
Let $M$ be a non-compact connected Riemann surface of finite type, and $R\subset\subset M$ be a relatively compact domain such that $H_{1}(M,\Z)=H_{1}(R,\Z)$. Let $\tilde R\longrightarrow R$ be a covering. We study the algebra $H^{\infty}(U)$ of bounded holomorphic functions defined in some domains $U\subset\tilde R$. Our main result is a Forelli type theorem on projections in $H^{\infty}(\Di)$.
We study the existence of proper holomorphic embeddings of bordered Riemann surfaces into the complex plane C^2. Denote by M(R) the moduli space consisting of all equivalence classes of complex structures J on a given smooth oriented bordered surface R. We introduce a class F(R) in M(R)with the following properties: (1) F(R) is nonempty and open (in a natural topology on M(R)); (2) The interior of any Riemann surface (R,J) in the class F(R) admits a proper holomorphic embedding in C^2; (3) If R is a finitely connected planar domain then F(R)=M(R); (4) Each hyperelliptic bordered Riemann surfac…
We prove that the Bass stable rank of the algebra of bounded holomorphic functions on an unbranched covering of a finite bordered Riemann surface is equal to one.
We prove that every bordered Riemann surface admits a complete proper holomorphic immersion into a ball of C^2, and a complete proper holomorphic embedding into a ball of C^3.
One of the oldest open problems in the classical function theory is whether every open Riemann surface admits a proper holomorphic embedding into C^2. In this paper we prove the following Theorem: If D is a bordered Riemann surface whose closure admits an injective immersion in C^2 that is holomorphic in D, then D admits a proper holomorphic embedding in C^2. The most general earlier results are due to J. Globevnik and B. Stensones (Math. Ann. 303 (1995), 579-597) and E. F. Wold (Internat. J. Math. 17 (2006), 963-974). We give an explicit and elementary construction that does not require the T…
We show that the infinite-dimensional Teichmueller space of a Riemann surface whose boundary consists of n closed curves is a holomorphic fiber space over the Teichmueller space of n-punctured surfaces. Each fiber is a complex Banach manifold modeled on a two-dimensional extension of the universal Teichmueller space. The local model of the fiber, together with the coordinates from internal Schiffer variation, provides new holomorphic local coordinates for the infinite-dimensional Teichmueller space.
We consider Riemann surfaces $Σ$ with $n$ borders homeomorphic to $\mathbb{S}^1$ and no handles. Using generalized Grunsky operators, we define a period mapping from the infinite-dimensional Teichmüller space of surfaces of this type into the unit ball in the linear space of operators on an $n$-fold direct sum of Bergman spaces of the disk. We show that this period mapping is holomorphic and injective.
We consider bordered Riemann surfaces which are biholomorphic to compact Riemann surfaces of genus g with n regions biholomorphic to the disc removed. We define a refined Teichmueller space of such Riemann surfaces and demonstrate that in the case that 2g+2-n>0, this refined Teichmueller space is a Hilbert manifold. The inclusion map from the refined Teichmueller space into the usual Teichmueller space (which is a Banach manifold) is holomorphic. We also show that the rigged moduli space of Riemann surfaces with non-overlapping holomorphic maps, appearing in conformal field theory, is a comple…
It is well known that a ramified holomorphic covering of a closed unitary disc by another such a disc is given by a finite Blaschke product. The inverse is also true. In this note we give an explicit description of holomorphic ramified coverings of a disc by other bordered Riemann surfaces. The problem of covering a disc by an annulus arises e.g. in multidimensional complex analysis; we show that it may be effectively solved in terms of elliptic theta functions. The covering of a disc by a flat domain is discussed in a monograph by Goluzin. The machinery used here strongly resembles the descri…
We construct a boundary integral formula for harmonic functions on open, smoothly-bordered subdomains of Riemann surfaces embeddable into $\C¶^2$. The formula may be considered as an analogue of the Green's formula for domains in $\C$.
For certain bordered submanifolds $M\subset\CC^2$ we show that $M$ can be embedded properly and holomorphically into $\CC^2$. An application is that any subset of a torus with two boundary components can be embedded properly into $\CC^2$.
We consider a compact Riemann surface $R$ of arbitrary genus, with a finite number of non-overlapping quasicircles, which separate $R$ into two subsets: a connected Riemann surface $Σ$, and the union $\mathcal{O}$ of a finite collection of simply-connected regions. We prove that the Schiffer integral operator mapping the Bergman space of anti-holomorphic one-forms on $\mathcal{O}$ to the Bergman space of holomorphic forms on $Σ$ is an isomorphism. We then apply this to prove versions of the Plemelj-Sokhotski isomorphism and jump decomposition for such a configuration. Finally we obtain some ap…
In this paper we give results about projective embeddings of Riemann surfaces, smooth or nodal, which we apply to the inverse Dirichlet-to-Neumann problem and to the inversion of a Riemann-Klein theorem. To produce useful embeddings, we adapt a technique of Bishop in the open bordered case and use Runge type harmonic approximation theorem in the compact case.
Using the notion of commutative operator vessels, this work investigates de Branges-Rovnyak spaces whose elements are sections of a line bundle of multiplicative half-order differentials on a compact real Riemann surface. As a special case, we obtain a Beurling-Lax type theorem in the setting of the corresponding Hardy space on a finite bordered Riemann surface.
An electrical potential U on bordered surface X (in Euclidien three-dimensional space) with isotropic conductivity function sigma>0 satisfies equation d(sigma d^cU)=0, where d^c is real operator associated with complex (conforme) structure on X induced by Euclidien metric of three-dimensional space. This paper gives exact reconstruction of conductivity function sigma on X from Dirichlet-to-Neumann mapping (for aforementioned conductivity equation) on the boundary of X. This paper extends to the case of the Riemann surfaces the reconstruction schemes of R.Novikov (1988) and of A.Bukhgeim (2008)…
An electrical potential U on a bordered Riemann surface X with conductivity function sigma>0 satisfies equation d(sigma d^cU)=0. The problem of effective reconstruction of sigma is studied. We extend to the case of Riemann surfaces the reconstruction scheme given, firstly, by R.Novikov (1988) for simply connected X. We apply for this new kernels for dbar on affine algebraic Riemann surfaces constructed in Henkin, arXiv:0804.3761
In this paper we study holomorphic Legendrian curves in the standard holomorphic contact structure on $\mathbb{C}^{2n+1}$ for any $n\in\mathbb{N}$. We provide several approximation and desingularization results which enable us to prove general existence theorems, settling some of the open problems in the subject. In particular, we show that every open Riemann surface $M$ admits a proper holomorphic Legendrian embedding $M\hookrightarrow\mathbb{C}^{2n+1}$, and we prove that for every compact bordered Riemann surface $M=\mathring M\cup bM$ there exists a topological embedding $M\hookrightarrow \…
In the paper we prove an extension theorem for matrices with entries in H^{\infty}(U) for U being a Riemann surface of a special type. One of the main components of the proof is a Grauert type theorem for "holomorphic" vector bundles defined over maximal ideal spaces of certain Banach algebras. The proof is also based on the results of A.Brudnyi "Projections in the Space H^{\infty} and the Corona Theorem for Coverings of Bordered Riemann Surfaces" (see my previous submissions here).
This article gives a complex analysis lighting on the problem which consists in restoring a bordered connected riemaniann surface from its boundary and its Dirichlet-Neumann operator. The three aspects of this problem, unicity, reconstruction and characterization are approached.
In this paper the Wiener--Hopf factorisation problem is presented in a unified framework with the Riemann--Hilbert factorisation. This allows to establish the exact relationship between the two types of factorisation. In particular, in the Wiener--Hopf problem one assumes more regularity than for the Riemann--Hilbert problem. It is shown that Wiener--Hopf factorisation can be obtained using Riemann--Hilbert factorisation on certain lines.
Let $X$ be a smooth bordered surface in $\real^3$ with smooth boundary and $\hat σ$ a smooth anisotropic conductivity on $X$. If the genus of $X$ is given, then starting from the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator $Λ_{\hat σ}$ on $\partial X$, we give an explicit procedure to find a unique Riemann surface $Y$ (up to a biholomorphism), an isotropic conductivity $σ$ on $Y$ and the boundary values of a quasiconformal diffeomorphism $F: X \to Y$ which transforms $\hat σ$ into $σ$. As a corollary we obtain the following uniqueness result: if $σ_1, σ_2$ are two smooth anisotropic conductivities on $X$ wi…
This paper is devoted to Riemann-Hilbert problems with constraints. We obtain results characterizing the existence of solutions as well as the dimension of the solution space in terms of certain indices. As an application, we show how such results may be used to construct analytic discs attached to singular manifolds.
Recall that the Hilbert (Riemann-Hilbert) boundary value problem was recently solved in \cite{R1} for arbitrary measurable coefficients and for arbitrary measurable boundary data in terms of nontangential limits and principal asymptotic values. Here it is developed a new approach making possible to obtain new results on tangential limits. It is shown that the spaces of the found solutions have the infinite dimension for prescribed collections of Jordan arcs terminating in almost every boundary point. Similar results are proved for the Riemann problem.
Using Hörmander $L^2$ method for Cauchy-Riemann equations from complex analysis, we study a simple differential operator $\bar{\partial}^k+a$ of any order (densely defined and closed) in weighted Hilbert space $L^2(\mathbb{C},e^{-|z|^2})$ and prove the existence of a right inverse that is bounded.
A Fredholm integral equation of the second kind with the generalized Neumann kernel associated with the Riemann-Hilbert problem on unbounded multiply connected regions will be derived and studied in this paper. The derived integral equation yields a uniquely solvable boundary integral equations for the modified Dirichlet problem on unbounded multiply connected regions.
It is proved the existence of single-valued analytic solutions in the unit disk and multivalent analytic solutions in domains bounded by a finite collection of circles for the Riemann-Hilbert problem with coefficients of sigma-finite variation and with boundary data that are measurable with respect to logarithmic capacity. It is shown that these spaces of solutions have the infinite dimension.
It is proved the existence of multivalent solutions for the Riemann-Hilbert problem in the general settings of finitely connected domains bounded by mutually disjoint Jordan curves, measurable coefficients and measurable boundary data. The theorem is formulated in terms of harmonic measure and principal asymptotic values. It is also given the corresponding reinforced criterion for domains with rectifiable boundaries stated in terms of the natural parameter and nontangential limits. Furthemore, it is shown that the dimension of the spaces of these solutions is infinite.
With no criteria of the index type, it is proved the existence of a solution for the Riemann-Hilbert problem in the fairly general setting of arbitrary Jordan domains, measurable coefficients and measurable boundary data. The theorem is formulated in terms of harmonic measure and principal asymptotic values. It is also given the corresponding reinforced criterion for domains with arbitrary rectifiable boundaries stated in terms of the natural parameter and nontangential limits. Moreover, it is shown that the dimension of the spaces of solutions is infinite.
Recall that the Hilbert (Riemann-Hilbert) boundary value problem for the Beltrami equations was recently solved for general settings in terms of nontangential limits and principal asymptotic values. Here it is developed a new approach making possible to obtain new results on tangential limits in multiply connected domains. It is shown that the spaces of the found solutions have the infinite dimension for prescribed families of Jordan arcs terminating in almost every boundary point. We give also applications of results obtained by us for the Beltrami equations to the boundary value problems of …
We have obtained the explicit versions and precisions for the Hodge-Riemann decomposition of formes on affine algebraic curve V. The main application consists in the construction of Faddeev-Green function for Laplacian on V. Basing on this [HM](arXiv:0804.3951 and J.Geom.Anal., 2008,18), we extended from the case X in C to the case of bordered Riemann surface X in V the R.Novikov (1988) scheme for the effective reconstruction of conductivity function sigma on X through Dirichlet-to-Neumann mapping on bX for solutions of d(sigma d^cU)=0. In Sec.4 we give a correction of the paper [HM].
We construct a scattering theory for harmonic one-forms on Riemann surfaces, obtained from boundary value problems through systems of curves and the jump problem. We obtain an explicit expression for the scattering matrix in terms of integral operators which we call Schiffer operators, and show that the matrix is unitary. As a consequence of this scattering theory, we prove index theorems relating these conformally invariant integral operators to topological invariants. We also obtain a general association of positive polarizing Lagrangian spaces to bordered Riemann surfaces, which unifies the…
We discuss some topological aspects of the Riemann-Hilbert transmission problem and Riemann-Hilbert monodromy problem on Riemann surfaces. In particular, we describe the construction of a holomorphic vector bundle starting from the given representation of the fundamental group and investigate the local behaviour of connexions on this bundle. We give formulae for the partial indices of the Riemann-Hilbert transmission problem in the three-dimensional case in terms of the correspoding vector bundle on the Riemann sphere.
In this paper we extend vessel theory, or equivalently, the theory of overdetermined $2D$ systems to the Pontryagin space setting. We focus on realization theorems of the various characteristic functions associated to such vessels. In particular, we develop an indefinite version of de Branges-Rovnyak theory over real compact Riemann surfaces. To do so, we use the theory of contractions in Pontryagin spaces and the theory of analytic kernels with a finite number of negative squares. Finally, we utilize the indefinite de Branges-Rovnyak theory on compact Riemann surfaces in order to prove a Beur…
In this paper we study an analogue of the classical Riemann-Hilbert problem stated for the classes of difference and $q$-difference systems. The Birkhoff's existence theorem was generalized in this paper.
In the paper we give an upper estimate of the number of apparent singularities that are sufficient for construction of a system of linear differential equations on a Riemann surface with given fuchsian singularities and monodromy.
This is a survey paper on the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence on (irregular) holonomic D-modules, based on the 16-th Takagi lecture (2015/11/28). In this paper, we use subanalytic sheaves, an analogous notion to the one of indsheaves.
We develop a theory of $n \times n$-matrix Riemann-Hilbert problems for a class of jump contours and jump matrices of low regularity. Our basic assumption is that the contour $Γ$ is a finite union of simple closed Carleson curves in the Riemann sphere. In particular, contours with cusps, corners, and nontransversal intersections are allowed. We introduce a notion of $L^p$-Riemann-Hilbert problem and establish basic uniqueness results and a vanishing lemma. We also investigate the implications of Fredholmness for the unique solvability and prove a theorem on contour deformation.
We give some additions to the article "On the generalized Riemann-Hilbert problem with irregular singularities" by Bolibruch, Malek, Mitschi (math/0410483). In particular, a weak GRH-problem and the GRH-problem for scalar differential equations are discussed.
In this work, some theorems are established for orthogonal trigonometric polynomials (OTP) including Favard, Baxter, Geronimus, Rakhmanov, Szegö and the strong Szegö theorems which are important in the theory of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle (OPUC). All these results are based on the mutual representation theorem of OPUC and OTP which deduced by a Riemann-Hilbert problem simultaneously characterizing them. In addition, Szegö recursions, four-term recurrences and some new identities for OPUC and OTP are also obtained by using their Riemann-Hilbert characterizations respectively.
In this short paper we prove a derived version of the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence of Deligne and Simpson. Our generalization is twofold: on one side we consider families of representations of the full homotopy type of a smooth analytic space $X$ in the stable $\infty$-category of complexes of coherent sheaves and of perfect complexes; on the other side, we allow the base parametrizing such families to be derived $\mathbb C$-analytic spaces.
The classical Riemann-Hilbert correspondence establishes an equivalence between the triangulated category of regular holonomic D-modules and that of constructible sheaves. In this paper, we prove a Riemann-Hilbert correspondence for holonomic D-modules which are not necessarily regular. The construction of our target category is based on the theory of ind-sheaves by Kashiwara-Schapira and influenced by Tamarkin's work. Among the main ingredients of our proof is the description of the structure of flat meromorphic connections due to Mochizuki and Kedlaya.
We study the asymptotic behavior of the discrete analogue of the holomorphic map $z^a$. The analysis is based on the use of the Riemann-Hilbert approach. Specifically, using the Deift-Zhou nonlinear steepest descent method we prove the asymptotic formulae which was conjectured in 2000 by the first co-author and S.I.~Agafonov.
We find a local $(d+1) \times (d+1)$ Riemann-Hilbert problem characterizing the skew-orthogonal polynomials associated to the partition function of the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble of random matrices with a potential function of degree $d$. Our Riemann-Hilbert problem is similar to a local $d \times d$ Riemann-Hilbert problem found by Kuijlaars and McLaughlin characterizing the bi-orthogonal polynomials. This gives more motivation for finding methods to compute asymptotics of high order Riemann-Hilbert problems, and brings us closer to finding asymptotics of the skew-orthogonal polynomials.
The solvability of the Riemann-Hilbert boundary value problem on the real line is described in the case when its matrix coefficient admits a Wiener-Hopf type factorization with bounded outer factors but rather general diagonal elements of its middle factor. This covers, in particular, the almost periodic setting. Connections with the corona problem are discussed. Based on those, constructive factorization criteria are derived for several types of triangular 2-by-2 matrices.
We characterize the biorthogonal polynomials that appear in the theory of coupled random matrices via a Riemann-Hilbert problem. Our Riemann-Hilbert problem is different from the ones that were proposed recently by Ercolani and McLaughlin, Kapaev, and Bertola et al. We believe that our formulation may be tractable to asymptotic analysis.
A novel approach to Riemann--Hilbert problems of particular class is introduced. The approach is applicable to problems in which the multiplicative jump is set on a half-line. Such problems are linked to some Wiener--Hopf problems motivated by diffraction theory. The new approach is based on ordinary differential equations: the Riemann--Hilbert problem is reduced to finding a coefficient of an ordinary differential equation and solving this equation. The new method leads to an efficient numerical algorithm and opens a road to new asymptotical and analytical advances.
In this paper, we study the theory of orthogonal trigonometric polynomials (OTP). We obtain asymptotics of OTP with positive and analytic weight functions by Riemann-Hilbert approach and find they have relations with orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle (OPUC). By the relations and the theory of OPUC, we also get four-terms recurrent formulae, Christoffel-Darboux formula and some properties of zeros for orthogonal trigonometric polynomials.
A correlation function of the XY spin chain is studied at zero temperature. This is called the Emptiness Formation Probability (EFP) and is expressed by the Fredholm determinant in the thermodynamic limit. We formulate the associated Riemann--Hilbert problem and solve it exactly. The EFP is shown to decay in Gaussian.
We consider matrix functions with certain invariance under inversion in the unit circle. If such a function satisfies a positivity assumption on the unit circle, then only zero partial indices appear in its Riemann-Hilbert (Wiener-Hopf) factorization. It implies the unique solvability of a certain class of Riemann-Hilbert boundary value problems. It includes the ones associated with the inverse scattering transform of the focusing/defocusing integrable discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equations.
A new concept of meromorphic $Σ$-factorization, for Hölder continuous functions defined on a contour $Γ$ that is the pullback of $\dot{\mathbb{R}}$ (or the unit circle) in a Riemann surface $Σ$ of genus 1, is introduced and studied, and its relations with holomorphic $Σ$-factorization are discussed. It is applied to study and solve some scalar Riemann-Hilbert problems in $Σ$ and vectorial Riemann-Hilbert problems in $\mathbb{C}$, including Wiener-Hopf matrix factorization, as well as to study some properties of a class of Toeplitz operators with $2 \times 2$ matrix symbols.
We formulate and prove a Riemann-Hilbert correspondence between $\hbar$-differential equations and sheaf quantizations, which can be considered as a correspondence between two kinds of quantizations (deformation and sheaf quantization) of holomorphic cotangent bundles. The latter category is expected to be equivalent to a version of Fukaya category, which is a "quantization" of Lagrangian intersection theory. The ideas of the constructions are based on asymptotic/WKB analysis, which is related to geometric quantization.
