We characterize the biorthogonal polynomials that appear in the theory of coupled random matrices via a Riemann-Hilbert problem. Our Riemann-Hilbert problem is different from the ones that were proposed recently by Ercolani and McLaughlin, Kapaev, and Bertola et al. We believe that our formulation may be tractable to asymptotic analysis.
Let $\{v_n\}$ be a complete minimal system in a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ and let $\{w_m\}$ be its biorthogonal system. It is well known that $\{w_m\}$ is not necessarily complete. However the situation may change if we consider systems of reproducing kernels in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ of analytic functions. We study the completeness problem for a class of spaces with a Riesz basis of reproducing kernels and for model subspaces $K_Θ$ of the Hardy space. We find a class of spaces where systems biorthogonal to complete systems of reproducing kernels are always complete…
We find a local $(d+1) \times (d+1)$ Riemann-Hilbert problem characterizing the skew-orthogonal polynomials associated to the partition function of the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble of random matrices with a potential function of degree $d$. Our Riemann-Hilbert problem is similar to a local $d \times d$ Riemann-Hilbert problem found by Kuijlaars and McLaughlin characterizing the bi-orthogonal polynomials. This gives more motivation for finding methods to compute asymptotics of high order Riemann-Hilbert problems, and brings us closer to finding asymptotics of the skew-orthogonal polynomials.
In this paper, we study the theory of orthogonal trigonometric polynomials (OTP). We obtain asymptotics of OTP with positive and analytic weight functions by Riemann-Hilbert approach and find they have relations with orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle (OPUC). By the relations and the theory of OPUC, we also get four-terms recurrent formulae, Christoffel-Darboux formula and some properties of zeros for orthogonal trigonometric polynomials.
We consider matrix functions with certain invariance under inversion in the unit circle. If such a function satisfies a positivity assumption on the unit circle, then only zero partial indices appear in its Riemann-Hilbert (Wiener-Hopf) factorization. It implies the unique solvability of a certain class of Riemann-Hilbert boundary value problems. It includes the ones associated with the inverse scattering transform of the focusing/defocusing integrable discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equations.
A new concept of meromorphic $Σ$-factorization, for Hölder continuous functions defined on a contour $Γ$ that is the pullback of $\dot{\mathbb{R}}$ (or the unit circle) in a Riemann surface $Σ$ of genus 1, is introduced and studied, and its relations with holomorphic $Σ$-factorization are discussed. It is applied to study and solve some scalar Riemann-Hilbert problems in $Σ$ and vectorial Riemann-Hilbert problems in $\mathbb{C}$, including Wiener-Hopf matrix factorization, as well as to study some properties of a class of Toeplitz operators with $2 \times 2$ matrix symbols.
In this paper the Wiener--Hopf factorisation problem is presented in a unified framework with the Riemann--Hilbert factorisation. This allows to establish the exact relationship between the two types of factorisation. In particular, in the Wiener--Hopf problem one assumes more regularity than for the Riemann--Hilbert problem. It is shown that Wiener--Hopf factorisation can be obtained using Riemann--Hilbert factorisation on certain lines.
Let S be a bordered Riemann surface with genus g and m boundary components. For a smooth family of smooth Jordan curves in the complex plane parametrized by the boundary of S and such that all curves contain 0 in their interior we show that there exists a holomorphic solution of the corresponding Riemann-Hilbert problem with at most 2g+m-1 zeros on S.
We discuss some topological aspects of the Riemann-Hilbert transmission problem and Riemann-Hilbert monodromy problem on Riemann surfaces. In particular, we describe the construction of a holomorphic vector bundle starting from the given representation of the fundamental group and investigate the local behaviour of connexions on this bundle. We give formulae for the partial indices of the Riemann-Hilbert transmission problem in the three-dimensional case in terms of the correspoding vector bundle on the Riemann sphere.
This paper is devoted to Riemann-Hilbert problems with constraints. We obtain results characterizing the existence of solutions as well as the dimension of the solution space in terms of certain indices. As an application, we show how such results may be used to construct analytic discs attached to singular manifolds.
In this paper we study an analogue of the classical Riemann-Hilbert problem stated for the classes of difference and $q$-difference systems. The Birkhoff's existence theorem was generalized in this paper.
Recall that the Hilbert (Riemann-Hilbert) boundary value problem was recently solved in \cite{R1} for arbitrary measurable coefficients and for arbitrary measurable boundary data in terms of nontangential limits and principal asymptotic values. Here it is developed a new approach making possible to obtain new results on tangential limits. It is shown that the spaces of the found solutions have the infinite dimension for prescribed collections of Jordan arcs terminating in almost every boundary point. Similar results are proved for the Riemann problem.
In the paper we give an upper estimate of the number of apparent singularities that are sufficient for construction of a system of linear differential equations on a Riemann surface with given fuchsian singularities and monodromy.
Using Hörmander $L^2$ method for Cauchy-Riemann equations from complex analysis, we study a simple differential operator $\bar{\partial}^k+a$ of any order (densely defined and closed) in weighted Hilbert space $L^2(\mathbb{C},e^{-|z|^2})$ and prove the existence of a right inverse that is bounded.
This is a survey paper on the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence on (irregular) holonomic D-modules, based on the 16-th Takagi lecture (2015/11/28). In this paper, we use subanalytic sheaves, an analogous notion to the one of indsheaves.
A Fredholm integral equation of the second kind with the generalized Neumann kernel associated with the Riemann-Hilbert problem on unbounded multiply connected regions will be derived and studied in this paper. The derived integral equation yields a uniquely solvable boundary integral equations for the modified Dirichlet problem on unbounded multiply connected regions.
It is proved the existence of single-valued analytic solutions in the unit disk and multivalent analytic solutions in domains bounded by a finite collection of circles for the Riemann-Hilbert problem with coefficients of sigma-finite variation and with boundary data that are measurable with respect to logarithmic capacity. It is shown that these spaces of solutions have the infinite dimension.
We develop a theory of $n \times n$-matrix Riemann-Hilbert problems for a class of jump contours and jump matrices of low regularity. Our basic assumption is that the contour $Γ$ is a finite union of simple closed Carleson curves in the Riemann sphere. In particular, contours with cusps, corners, and nontransversal intersections are allowed. We introduce a notion of $L^p$-Riemann-Hilbert problem and establish basic uniqueness results and a vanishing lemma. We also investigate the implications of Fredholmness for the unique solvability and prove a theorem on contour deformation.
It is proved the existence of multivalent solutions for the Riemann-Hilbert problem in the general settings of finitely connected domains bounded by mutually disjoint Jordan curves, measurable coefficients and measurable boundary data. The theorem is formulated in terms of harmonic measure and principal asymptotic values. It is also given the corresponding reinforced criterion for domains with rectifiable boundaries stated in terms of the natural parameter and nontangential limits. Furthemore, it is shown that the dimension of the spaces of these solutions is infinite.
With no criteria of the index type, it is proved the existence of a solution for the Riemann-Hilbert problem in the fairly general setting of arbitrary Jordan domains, measurable coefficients and measurable boundary data. The theorem is formulated in terms of harmonic measure and principal asymptotic values. It is also given the corresponding reinforced criterion for domains with arbitrary rectifiable boundaries stated in terms of the natural parameter and nontangential limits. Moreover, it is shown that the dimension of the spaces of solutions is infinite.
We give some additions to the article "On the generalized Riemann-Hilbert problem with irregular singularities" by Bolibruch, Malek, Mitschi (math/0410483). In particular, a weak GRH-problem and the GRH-problem for scalar differential equations are discussed.
In this work, some theorems are established for orthogonal trigonometric polynomials (OTP) including Favard, Baxter, Geronimus, Rakhmanov, Szegö and the strong Szegö theorems which are important in the theory of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle (OPUC). All these results are based on the mutual representation theorem of OPUC and OTP which deduced by a Riemann-Hilbert problem simultaneously characterizing them. In addition, Szegö recursions, four-term recurrences and some new identities for OPUC and OTP are also obtained by using their Riemann-Hilbert characterizations respectively.
Recall that the Hilbert (Riemann-Hilbert) boundary value problem for the Beltrami equations was recently solved for general settings in terms of nontangential limits and principal asymptotic values. Here it is developed a new approach making possible to obtain new results on tangential limits in multiply connected domains. It is shown that the spaces of the found solutions have the infinite dimension for prescribed families of Jordan arcs terminating in almost every boundary point. We give also applications of results obtained by us for the Beltrami equations to the boundary value problems of …
In this short paper we prove a derived version of the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence of Deligne and Simpson. Our generalization is twofold: on one side we consider families of representations of the full homotopy type of a smooth analytic space $X$ in the stable $\infty$-category of complexes of coherent sheaves and of perfect complexes; on the other side, we allow the base parametrizing such families to be derived $\mathbb C$-analytic spaces.
The classical Riemann-Hilbert correspondence establishes an equivalence between the triangulated category of regular holonomic D-modules and that of constructible sheaves. In this paper, we prove a Riemann-Hilbert correspondence for holonomic D-modules which are not necessarily regular. The construction of our target category is based on the theory of ind-sheaves by Kashiwara-Schapira and influenced by Tamarkin's work. Among the main ingredients of our proof is the description of the structure of flat meromorphic connections due to Mochizuki and Kedlaya.
We study the asymptotic behavior of the discrete analogue of the holomorphic map $z^a$. The analysis is based on the use of the Riemann-Hilbert approach. Specifically, using the Deift-Zhou nonlinear steepest descent method we prove the asymptotic formulae which was conjectured in 2000 by the first co-author and S.I.~Agafonov.
A novel approach to Riemann--Hilbert problems of particular class is introduced. The approach is applicable to problems in which the multiplicative jump is set on a half-line. Such problems are linked to some Wiener--Hopf problems motivated by diffraction theory. The new approach is based on ordinary differential equations: the Riemann--Hilbert problem is reduced to finding a coefficient of an ordinary differential equation and solving this equation. The new method leads to an efficient numerical algorithm and opens a road to new asymptotical and analytical advances.
The solvability of the Riemann-Hilbert boundary value problem on the real line is described in the case when its matrix coefficient admits a Wiener-Hopf type factorization with bounded outer factors but rather general diagonal elements of its middle factor. This covers, in particular, the almost periodic setting. Connections with the corona problem are discussed. Based on those, constructive factorization criteria are derived for several types of triangular 2-by-2 matrices.
A correlation function of the XY spin chain is studied at zero temperature. This is called the Emptiness Formation Probability (EFP) and is expressed by the Fredholm determinant in the thermodynamic limit. We formulate the associated Riemann--Hilbert problem and solve it exactly. The EFP is shown to decay in Gaussian.
We investigate the asymptotic behavior of the polynomials p, q, r of degrees n in type I Hermite-Pade approximation to the exponential function, defined by p(z)e^{-z}+q(z)+r(z)e^{z} = O(z^{3n+2}) as z -> 0. These polynomials are characterized by a Riemann-Hilbert problem for a 3x3 matrix valued function. We use the Deift-Zhou steepest descent method for Riemann-Hilbert problems to obtain strong uniform asymptotics for the scaled polynomials p(3nz), q(3nz), and r(3nz) in every domain in the complex plane. An important role is played by a three-sheeted Riemann surface and certain measures and fu…
We formulate and prove a Riemann-Hilbert correspondence between $\hbar$-differential equations and sheaf quantizations, which can be considered as a correspondence between two kinds of quantizations (deformation and sheaf quantization) of holomorphic cotangent bundles. The latter category is expected to be equivalent to a version of Fukaya category, which is a "quantization" of Lagrangian intersection theory. The ideas of the constructions are based on asymptotic/WKB analysis, which is related to geometric quantization.
This is an expanded version of the talk given at the conference ``Constructive Functions Tech-04''. We survey some recent results on canonical representation and asymptotic behavior of polynomials orthogonal on the unit circle with respect to an analytic weight. These results are obtained using the steepest descent method based on the Riemann-Hilbert characterization of these polynomials.
