Using a global version of the equivariant Chern character, we describe the complexified twisted equivariant K-theory of a space with a compact Lie group action in terms of fixed-point data. We apply this to the case of a compact Lie group acting on itself by conjugation, and relate the result to the Verlinde algebra and to the Kac numerator at q=1. Verlinde's formula is also discussed in this context.
In this paper we define twisted equivariant K-theory for actions of Lie groupoids. For a Bredon-compatible Lie groupoid, this defines a periodic cohomology theory on the category of finite CW-complexes with equivariant stable projective bundles. A classification of these bundles is shown. We also obtain a completion theorem and apply these results to proper actions of groups.
For G a finite group and X a G-space on which a normal subgroup A acts trivially, we show that the G-equivariant K-theory of X decomposes as a direct sum of twisted equivariant K-theories of X parametrized by the orbits of the conjugation action of G on the irreducible representations of A. The twists are group 2-cocycles which encode the obstruction of lifting an irreducible representation of A to the subgroup of G which fixes the isomorphism class of the irreducible representation.
Twisted topological Hochschild homology of $C_n$-equivariant spectra was introduced by Angeltveit, Blumberg, Gerhardt, Hill, Lawson, and Mandell, building on the work of Hill, Hopkins, and Ravenel on norms in equivariant homotopy theory. For $G$ a finite group, a normalized 2-cocycle $α\in Z^{2}\big(G,{\mathbb S}^{1}\big)$ and $X$ a $G$-space on which a normal subgroup $A$ acts trivially, we show that the $α$-twisted $G$-equivariant $K$-theory of $X$ decomposes as a direct sum of twisted equivariant $K$-theories of $X$ parametrized by the orbits of an action of $G$ on the set of irreducible $α$-projective representations of $A$. We use a spectral sequence developed by Graeme Segal in order to understand the twisted G-equivariant K-theory for proper and discrete actions. We show that the second page of this spectral sequence is isomorphic to a version of Bredon cohomology with local coefficients in twisted representations. We furthermore explain some phenomena concerning the third differential of the spectral sequence, and we recover known results when the twisting comes from finite order elements in discrete torsion.
Let $G$ be a compact, connected, and simply-connected Lie group viewed as a $G$-space via the conjugation action. The Freed-Hopkins-Teleman Theorem (FHT) asserts a canonical link between the equivariant twisted $K$-homology of $G$ and its Verlinde algebra. In this paper we give a generalization of FHT in the presence of a Real structure of $G$. Functoriality with respect to generalised morphisms and Bott periodicity are discussed. Starting with a $\mathbb{C}^*$-valued cocycle on the global quotient orbifold $X // G$, we apply transgression techniques for 2-gerbes, as developed by Lupercio and Uribe, to construct a gerbe on the orbifold loop space $\mathcal{L}(X//G)$. This gives a loop based definition of twisted equivariant Tate K-theory for finite groups that conforms to the definition that Luecke provides for compact, connected Lie groups. We relate our construction to Ganter's work on Moonshine and Huan's quasi-elliptic cohomology.
The charges of D-branes in Kazama-Suzuki coset models are analyzed. We provide the calculation of the corresponding twisted equivariant K-theory, and in the case of Grassmannian cosets, su(n+1)/u(n), compare this to the charge lattices that are derived from boundary conformal field theory.

Shadows for bicategories, defined by Ponto, provide a useful framework that generalizes classical and topological Hochschild homology. In this paper, we define Hochschild-type invariants for monoids in a symmetric monoidal, simplicial model category $\mathsf V$, as well as for small $\mathsf V$-categories. We show that each of these constructions extends to a shadow on an appropriate bicategory, which implies in particular that they are Morita invariant. We show that the equivariant chain complex associated to a minimal CW-structure X on the complement M(A) of a hyperplane arrangement A, is independent of X. When A is a sufficiently general linear section of an aspheric arrangement, we explain a new way for computing the twisted homology of M(A).
This is the first in a series of papers investigating the relationship between the twisted equivariant K-theory of a compact Lie group G and the "Verlinde ring" of its loop group. In this paper we set up the foundations of twisted equivariant K-groups, and more generally twisted K-theory of groupoids. We establish enough basic properties to make effective computations. We introduce equivariant twisted cohomology of a simplicial set equipped with simplicial action of a discrete group and prove that for suitable twisting function induced from a given equivariant local coefficients, the simplicial version of Bredon-Illman cohomology with local coefficients is isomorphic to equivariant twisted cohomology. The main aim of this paper is to prove a classification theorem for equivariant simplicial cohomology with local coefficients.
A spectral sequence calculating the homology groups of some spaces of maps equivariant under compact group actions is described. For the main example, we calculate the rational homology groups of spaces of even and odd maps $S^m \to S^M$, $m<M$, or, which is the same, the stable homology groups of spaces of non-resultant homogeneous polynomial maps ${\mathbb R}^{m+1} \to {\mathbb R}^{M+1}$ of growing degrees. We consider twisted equivariant K--theory for actions of a compact Lie group $G$ on a space $X$ where all the isotropy subgroups are connected and of maximal rank. We show that the associated rational spectral sequence à la Segal has a simple $E_2$--term expressible as invariants under the Weyl group of $G$. Namely, if $T$ is a maximal torus of $G$, they are invariants of the $π_1(X^T)$-equivariant Bredon cohomology of the universal cover of $X^T$ with suitable coefficients. We prove, under some mild conditions, that the equivariant twisted K-theory group of a crossed module admits a ring structure if the twisting 2-cocycle is 2-multiplicative. We also give an explicit construction of the transgression map $T_1: H^*(Γ;A) \to H^{*-1}((N\rtimes Γ;A)$ for any crossed module $N\to Γ$ and prove that any element in the image is $\infty$-multiplicative. We show how general principles of symmetry in quantum mechanics lead to twisted notions of a group representation. This framework generalizes both the classical 3-fold way of real/complex/quaternionic representations as well as a corresponding 10-fold way which has appeared in condensed matter and nuclear physics. We establish a foundation for discussing continuous families of quantum systems. An invariant for twisted K theory classes on a 3-manifold is introduced. The invariant is then applied to the twisted equivariant classes arising from the supersymmetric Wess-Zumino-Witten model based on the group SU(2). It is shown that the classes defined by different highest weight representations of the loop group LSU(2) are inequivalent. The results are compatible with Freed-Hopkins-Teleman identification of twisted equivariant K theory as the Verlinde algebra.

We study the fixed points of the universal G-equivariant n-dimensional complex vector bundle and obtain a decomposition formula in terms of twisted equivariant universal complex vector bundles of smaller dimension. We demonstrate that twisted equivariant differential K-theory of transverse complex curves accommodates exotic charges of the form expected of codimension=2 defect branes, such as of D7-branes in IIB/F-theory on A-type orbifold singularities, but also of their dual 3-brane defects of class-S theories on M5-branes. In this paper, for a finite group, we discuss a method for calculating equivariant homology with constant coefficients. We apply it to completely calculate the geometric fixed points of the equivariant spectrum representing equivariant (co)homology with constant coefficients. We also treat a more complicated example of inverting the standard representation in the equivariant homology of split extraspecial groups at the prime 2.
In this paper, we calculate the coefficient ring of equivariant Thom complex cobordism for the symmetric group on three elements. We also make some remarks on general methods of calculating certain pullbacks of rings which typically occur in calculations of equivariant cobordism.

We completely calculate the $RO(G)$-graded coefficients of ordinary equivariant cohomology where $G$ is the dihedral group of order $2p$ for a prime $p>2$ both with constant and Burnside ring coefficients. The authors first proved it for $p=3$ and then the second author generalized it to arbitrary $p$. These are the first such calculations for a non-abelian group.
We prove that the parallel transport of a flat $n-1$-gerbe on any given target space gives rise to an $n$-dimensional extended homotopy quantum field theory. In case the target space is the classifying space of a finite group, we provide explicit formulae for this homotopy quantum field theory in terms of transgression. Moreover, we use the geometric theory of orbifolds to give a dimension-independent version of twisted and equivariant Dijkgraaf-Witten models. We recall how a description of local coefficients that Eilenberg introduced in the 1940s leads to spectral sequences for the computation of homology and cohomology with local coefficients. We then show how to construct new equivariant analogues of these spectral sequences and give a worked example of how to apply them in a computation involving the equivariant Serre spectral sequence. This paper contains some of the material in the author's Ph.D. thesis, which also discusses some results of L. Gaunce Lewis on the cohomology of complex projective spaces and corrects some flaws in his paper.
Twisted K-theory has received much attention recently in both mathematics and physics. We describe some models of twisted K-theory, both topological and geometric. Then we state a theorem which relates representations of loop groups to twisted equivariant K-theory. This is joint work with Michael Hopkins and Constantin Teleman.
In this paper, we prove some computational results about equivariant cohomology over the cyclic group $C_{p^n}$ of prime power order. We show that there is an inductive formula when the dimension of the $C_p$-fixed points of the grading is large. Among other calculations, we also show the existence of non-trivial extensions when $n\geq 3$.
This note contains a generalization to $p>2$ of the authors' previous calculations of the coefficients of $(\mathbb{Z}/2)^n$-equivariant ordinary cohomology with coefficients in the constant $\mathbb{Z}/2$-Mackey functor. In this paper we prove stability results for the homology of the mapping class group of a surface. We get a stability range that is near optimal, and extend the result to twisted coefficients.

Let $C_2$ denote the cyclic group of order two. Given a manifold with a $C_2$-action, we can consider its equivariant Bredon $RO(C_2)$-graded cohomology. In this paper, we develop a theory of fundamental classes for equivariant submanifolds in $RO(C_2)$-graded cohomology in constant $\mathbb{Z}/2$ coefficients. We show the cohomology of any $C_2$-surface is generated by fundamental classes, and these classes can be used to easily compute the ring structure. We study the classifying space of a twisted loop group $L_σG$ where $G$ is a compact Lie group and $σ$ is an automorphism of $G$ of finite order modulo inner automorphisms. Equivalently, we study the $σ$-twisted adjoint action of $G$ on itself. We derive a formula for the cohomology ring $H^*(BL_σG)$ and explicitly carry out the calculation for all automorphisms of simple Lie groups. More generally, we derive a formula for the equivariant cohomology of compact Lie group actions with constant rank stabilizers.
Given a finite group G, we develop a theory of G-equivariant noncommutative motives. This theory provides a well-adapted framework for the study of G-schemes, Picard groups of schemes, G-algebras, 2-cocycles, equivariant algebraic K-theory, orbifold cohomology theory, etc. Among other results, we relate our theory with its commutative counterpart as well as with Panin's motivic theory.
