We prove, under some mild conditions, that the equivariant twisted K-theory group of a crossed module admits a ring structure if the twisting 2-cocycle is 2-multiplicative. We also give an explicit construction of the transgression map $T_1: H^*(Γ;A) \to H^{*-1}((N\rtimes Γ;A)$ for any crossed module $N\to Γ$ and prove that any element in the image is $\infty$-multiplicative. As a consequence, we prove that, under some mild conditions, for a crossed module $N \to \gm$ and any $e \in \check{Z}^3(Γ;S^1)$, that the equivariant twisted K-theory group $K^*_{e,Γ}(N)$ admits a ring structure. As an application, we prove that for a compact, connected and simply connected Lie group G, the equivariant twisted K-theory group $K_{[c], G}^* (G)$ is endowed with a canonical ring structure $K^{i+d}_{[c],G}(G)\otimes K^{j+d}_{[c],G}(G)\to K^{i+j+d}_{[c], G}(G)$, where $d=dim G$ and $[c]\in H^2(G\rtimes G;S^1)$.
We use the geometry of the space of fields for gauged supersymmetric mechanics to construct the twisted differential equivariant K-theory of a manifold with an action by a finite group.
Freed-Hopkins-Teleman expressed the Verlinde algebra as twisted equivariant K-theory. We study how to recover the full system (fusion algebra of defect lines), nimrep (cylindrical partition function), etc of modular invariant partition functions of conformal field theories associated to loop groups. We work out several examples corresponding to conformal embeddings and orbifolds. We identify a new aspect of the A-D-E pattern of SU(2) modular invariants.
In this paper we introduce exotic twisted $\mathbb T$-equivariant K-theory of loop space $LZ$ depending on the (typically non-flat) holonomy line bundle ${\mathcal L}^B$ on $LZ$ induced from a gerbe with connection $B$ on $Z$. We also define exotic twisted $\mathbb T$-equivariant Chern character that maps the exotic twisted $\mathbb T$-equivariant K-theory of $LZ$ into the exotic twisted $\mathbb T$-equivariant cohomology as defined in an earlier paper of ours, and which localises to twisted cohomology of $Z$.
We present a version of twisted equivariant $K$-theory-$K$-twisted equivariant $K$-theory, and use Grothendieck differentials to compute the $K$ -twisted equivariant $K$-theory of simple simply connected Lie groups. We did the calculation explicitly for SU(N) explicitly. The basic idea is to interpret an equivariant gerbe as an element of equivariant $K$-theory of degree 1.
We develop equivariant KK-theory for locally compact groupoid actions by Morita equivalences on real and complex graded C*-algebras. Functoriality with respect to generalised morphisms and Bott periodicity are discussed. We introduce Stiefel-Whitney classes for real or complex equivariant vector bundles over locally compact groupoids to establish the Thom isomorphism theorem in twisted groupoid K-theory.
In this paper, we study a generalization of twisted (groupoid) equivariant $\mathrm{K}$-theory in the sense of Freed-Moore for $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebras. It is defined by using Fredholm operators on Hilbert modules with twisted representations. We compare it with another description using odd symmetries, which is a generalization of van Daele's $\mathrm{K}$-theory for $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded Banach algebras. In particular, we obtain a simple presentation of the twisted equivariant $\mathrm{K}$-group when the $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebra is trivially graded. It is applied for the bu…
We compare different algebraic structures in twisted equivariant K-Theory for proper actions of discrete groups. After the construction of a module structure over untwisted equivariant K-Theory, we prove a completion Theorem of Atiyah-Segal type for twisted equivariant K-Theory. Using a Universal coefficient Theorem, we prove a cocompletion Theorem for Twisted Borel K-Homology for discrete Groups.
We give a construction for twisted equivariant K-theory in the case of a proper action of a discrete group using twisted bundles. Our construction uses results of Lueck and Oliver to extend a construction of Adem and Ruan. We also show the existence of a Chern character to twisted Bredon cohomology. This gives a partial answer to the question of when you can construct twisted equivariant K-theory out of finite rank twisted bundles.
In this paper we define twisted equivariant K-theory for actions of Lie groupoids. For a Bredon-compatible Lie groupoid, this defines a periodic cohomology theory on the category of finite CW-complexes with equivariant stable projective bundles. A classification of these bundles is shown. We also obtain a completion theorem and apply these results to proper actions of groups.
For G a finite group and X a G-space on which a normal subgroup A acts trivially, we show that the G-equivariant K-theory of X decomposes as a direct sum of twisted equivariant K-theories of X parametrized by the orbits of the conjugation action of G on the irreducible representations of A. The twists are group 2-cocycles which encode the obstruction of lifting an irreducible representation of A to the subgroup of G which fixes the isomorphism class of the irreducible representation.
We compare twisted Equivariant K-theory of Sl3Z with untwisted equivariant K-Theory of its universal central extension, St3Z. Using universal coefficient theorems by the authors, the computations explained here give the domain of Baum-Connes assembly maps landing on the topological K-theory of twisted group C*-algebras related to Sl3Z, for which a version of Poincaré Duality studied previously by Echterhoff, Emerson and Kim is verified.
Twisted topological Hochschild homology of $C_n$-equivariant spectra was introduced by Angeltveit, Blumberg, Gerhardt, Hill, Lawson, and Mandell, building on the work of Hill, Hopkins, and Ravenel on norms in equivariant homotopy theory. In this paper we introduce tools for computing twisted THH, which we apply to computations for Thom spectra, Eilenberg-MacLane spectra, and the real bordism spectrum $MU_{\mathbb{R}}$. In particular, we construct an equivariant version of the Bökstedt spectral sequence, the formulation of which requires further development of the Hochschild homology of Green f…
This is a study of twisted K-theory on a product space $T \times M$. The twisting comes from a decomposable cup product class which applies the 1-cohomology of $T$ and the 2-cohomology of $M$. In the case of a topological product, we give a concrete realization for the gerbe associated to a cup product characteristic class and use this to realize twisted $K^1$-theory elements in terms of supercharge sections in a Fredholm bundle. The nontriviality of this construction is proved. Equivariant twisted K-theory and gerbes are studied in the product case as well. This part applies Lie groupoid theo…
Using a global version of the equivariant Chern character, we describe the complexified twisted equivariant K-theory of a space with a compact Lie group action in terms of fixed-point data. We apply this to the case of a compact Lie group acting on itself by conjugation, and relate the result to the Verlinde algebra and to the Kac numerator at q=1. Verlinde's formula is also discussed in this context.
We construct a comparison map from the topological K-theory of the dg-category of twisted perfect complexes on certain global quotient stacks to twisted equivariant K-theory, generalizing constructions of Halpern-Leistner-Pomerleano and Moulinos. We prove that this map is an equivalence if a version of the projective bundle theorem holds for twisted equivariant K-theory. Along the way, we give a new proof of a theorem of Moulinos that the comparison map is an equivalence in the non-equivariant case.
We study the "quantized calculus" corresponding to the algebraic ideas related to "twisted cyclic cohomology" introduced in [KMT]. With very similar definitions and techniques as those used in [jlo], we define and study "twisted entire cyclic cohomology" and the "twisted Chern character" associated with an appropriate operator-theoretic data called "twisted spectral data", which consists of a spectral triple in the conventional sense of noncommutative geometry ([Con]) and an additional positive operator having specified properties. Furthermore, it is shown that given a spectral triple (in the …
Replaces Previous version. Includes comments on poincare duality for twisted equivariant in the context of proper and discrete actions and the Baum-Connes Conjecture. We use a spectral sequence proposed by C. Dwyer and previous work by Sanchez-Garcia and Soule to compute Twisted Equivariant K-theory groups of the classifying space for proper actions of Sl3(Z). After proving a Universal coefficient theorem in Bredon Cohomology with specific coefficients, we compute the twisted equivariant K-homology and state a relation to the Baum-Connes Conjecture with coefficients.
A duality is discussed for Lie group bundles vs. certain tensor categories with non-simple identity, in the setting of Nistor-Troitsky gauge-equivariant K-theory. As an application, we study C*-algebra bundles with fibre a fixed-point algebra of the Cuntz algebra: a classification is given, and a cohomological invariant is assigned, representing the obstruction to perform an embedding into a continuous bundle of Cuntz algebras. Finally, we introduce the notion of twisted equivariant K-theory.
For $G$ a finite group, a normalized 2-cocycle $α\in Z^{2}\big(G,{\mathbb S}^{1}\big)$ and $X$ a $G$-space on which a normal subgroup $A$ acts trivially, we show that the $α$-twisted $G$-equivariant $K$-theory of $X$ decomposes as a direct sum of twisted equivariant $K$-theories of $X$ parametrized by the orbits of an action of $G$ on the set of irreducible $α$-projective representations of $A$. This generalizes the decomposition obtained in [Gómez J.M., Uribe B., Internat. J. Math. 28 (2017), 1750016, 23 pages, arXiv:1604.01656] for equivariant $K$-theory. We also explore some examples of thi…
Let $G$ be a connected semisimple Lie group with its maximal compact subgroup $K$ being simply-connected. We show that the twisted equivariant $KK$-theory $KK^{\bullet}_{G}(G/K, τ_G^G)$ of $G$ has a ring structure induced from the renowned ring structure of the twisted equivariant $K$-theory $K^{\bullet}_{K}(K, τ_K^K)$ of a maximal compact subgroup $K$. We give a geometric description of representatives in $KK^{\bullet}_{G}(G/K, τ_G^G)$ in terms of equivalence classes of certain equivariant correspondences and obtain an optimal set of generators of this ring. We also establish various properti…
In joint work with M. Hopkins and C. Teleman we find a new description of the Verlinde algebra associated to a compact Lie group. In this expository account we describe twisted K-theory, prove the theorem for the group SU(2), and motivate the general theorem using ideas in topological field theory. The full proof will appear elsewhere.
We use a spectral sequence developed by Graeme Segal in order to understand the twisted G-equivariant K-theory for proper and discrete actions. We show that the second page of this spectral sequence is isomorphic to a version of Bredon cohomology with local coefficients in twisted representations. We furthermore explain some phenomena concerning the third differential of the spectral sequence, and we recover known results when the twisting comes from finite order elements in discrete torsion.
We prove that each exponential functor on the category of finite-dimensional complex inner product spaces and isomorphisms gives rise to an equivariant higher (ie. non-classical) twist of $K$-theory over $G=SU(n)$. This twist is represented by a Fell bundle $\mathcal{E} \to \mathcal{G}$, which reduces to the basic gerbe for the top exterior power functor. The groupoid $\mathcal{G}$ comes equipped with a $G$-action and an augmentation map $\mathcal{G} \to G$, that is an equivariant equivalence. The $C^*$-algebra $C^*(\mathcal{E})$ associated to $\mathcal{E}$ is stably isomorphic to the section …
This is the first in a series of papers investigating the relationship between the twisted equivariant K-theory of a compact Lie group G and the "Verlinde ring" of its loop group. In this paper we set up the foundations of twisted equivariant K-groups, and more generally twisted K-theory of groupoids. We establish enough basic properties to make effective computations. Using the Mayer-Vietoris spectral sequence we compute the twisted equivariant K-groups of a compact connected Lie group G with torsion free fundamental group. We relate this computation to the representation theory of the loop g…
In this paper we deduce the sketch of proof of the Duistermaat-Heckman formula and investigate how the known Duistermaat-Heckman result could be specialized to the symplectic structure on the orbit space. The theorems of localization in equivariant cohomology not only provide us with beautiful mathematical formulas and stimulate achievements in algorithmic computations, but also promote progress in theoretical and mathematical physics. We present the elliptic genera and the characteristic $q$-series for the circle actions and twisted equivariant K-theory, with the case of the symmetric group o…
Let $G$ be a compact, connected, and simply-connected Lie group viewed as a $G$-space via the conjugation action. The Freed-Hopkins-Teleman Theorem (FHT) asserts a canonical link between the equivariant twisted $K$-homology of $G$ and its Verlinde algebra. In this paper we give a generalization of FHT in the presence of a Real structure of $G$. Along the way we develop preliminary materials necessary for this generalization, which are of independent interest in their own right. These include the definitions of Real Dixmier-Douady bundles, the Real third cohomology group which is shown to class…
This paper is our first step in establishing a de Rham model for equivariant twisted $K$-theory using machinery from noncommutative geometry. Let $G$ be a compact Lie group, $M$ a compact manifold on which $G$ acts smoothly. For any $α\in H^3_G (M, {\mathbb Z})$ we introduce a notion of localized equivariant twisted cohomology $H^\bullet ({\barΩ}^\bullet (M, G, L)_g, d^α_{G^g})$, indexed by $g\in G$. We prove that there exists a natural family of chain maps, indexed by $g\in G$, inducing a family of morphisms from the equivariant periodic cyclic homology $HP^G_\bullet ( C^\infty (M, α) )$, whe…
For a space X acted by a finite group $\G$, the product space $X^n$ affords a natural action of the wreath product $\Gn$. In this paper we study the K-groups $K_{\tG_n}(X^n)$ of $\Gn$-equivariant Clifford supermodules on $X^n$. We show that $\tFG =\bigoplus_{n\ge 0}K_{\tG_n}(X^n) \otimes \C$ is a Hopf algebra and it is isomorphic to the Fock space of a twisted Heisenberg algebra. Twisted vertex operators make a natural appearance. The algebraic structures on $\tFG$, when $\G$ is trivial and X is a point, specialize to those on a ring of symmetric functions with the Schur Q-functions as a linea…
A classical theorem due to Quillen (1969) identifies the unitary bordism ring with the Lazard ring, which classifies the universal one-dimensional commutative formal group law. We prove an equivariant generalization of this result by identifying the homotopy theoretic $\mathbb{Z}/2$-equivariant unitary bordism ring, introduced by tom Dieck (1970), with the $\mathbb{Z}/2$-equivariant Lazard ring, introduced by Cole-Greenlees-Kriz (2000). Our proof combines a computation of the homotopy theoretic $\mathbb{Z}/2$-equivariant unitary bordism ring due to Strickland (2001) with a detailed investigati…
The most basic structure of chiral conformal field theory (CFT) is the Verlinde ring. Freed-Hopkins-Teleman have expressed the Verlinde ring for the CFT's associated to loop groups, as twisted equivariant K-theory. We build on their work to express K-theoretically the structures of full CFT. In particular, the modular invariant partition functions (which essentially parametrise the possible full CFTs) have a rich interpretation within von Neumann algebras (subfactors), which has led to the developments of structures of full CFT such as the full system (fusion ring of defect lines), nimrep (cyl…
Equivariant T-duality triples of locally compact abelian groups are considered. The motivating example dealing with the group $\R^n$ containing a lattice $\Z^n$ comes with an isomorphism in twisted equivariant K-theory.
This is the second in a series of papers investigating the relationship between the twisted equivariant K-theory of a compact Lie group G and the "Verlinde ring" of its loop group. We introduce the Dirac family of Fredholm operators associated to a positive energy representation of a loop group. It determines a map from isomorphism classes of representations to twisted K-theory, which we prove is an isomorphism if $G$ is connected with torsion-free fundamental group. We also introduce a Dirac family for finite dimensional representations of compact Lie groups; it is closely related to both the…
Shadows for bicategories, defined by Ponto, provide a useful framework that generalizes classical and topological Hochschild homology. In this paper, we define Hochschild-type invariants for monoids in a symmetric monoidal, simplicial model category $\mathsf V$, as well as for small $\mathsf V$-categories. We show that each of these constructions extends to a shadow on an appropriate bicategory, which implies in particular that they are Morita invariant. We also define a generalized theory of Hochschild homology twisted by an automorphism and show that it is Morita invariant. Hochschild homolo…
We define twisted equivariant K-homology groups using geometric cycles. We compare them with approaches using Kasparov KK-Theory and (twisted) group C*-algebras.
The purpose of the paper is twofold: First, known results of the noncommutative spin geometry of the standard Podles sphere are extended by discussing Poincare duality and orientability. In the discussion of orientability, Hochschild homology is replaced by a twisted version which avoids the dimension drop. The twisted Hochschild cycle representing an orientation is related to the volume form of the distinguished covariant differential calculus. Integration over the volume form defines a twisted cyclic 2-cocycle which computes the q-winding numbers of quantum line bundles. Second, a "twisted" …

An important ingredient in the completion theorem of equivariant K-theory given by S. Jackowski is that the representation ring R(Gamma) of a compact Lie group satisfies two restriction properties called (N) and (R\_{F}). We give in this note sufficient conditions on a (compact) -space Z such that these properties hold with K\_{Gamma}^{*}(Z) instead of R(Gamma). As an example, we consider the space Z(Gamma;G) of the so called "elementary cocycles with coefficients in G" invented by H. Ibisch in his construction of a universal (Gamma;G)-bundle.
Let $\Uq$ be a quantum group. Regarding a (noncommutative) space with $\Uq$-symmetry as a $\Uq$-module algebra $A$, we may think of equivariant vector bundles on $A$ as projective $A$-modules with compatible $\Uq$-action. We construct an equivariant K-theory of such quantum vector bundles using Quillen's exact categories, and provide means for its compution. The equivariant K-groups of quantum homogeneous spaces and quantum symmetric algebras of classical type are computed.
Given a fiber bundle of GKM spaces, $π\colon M\to B$, we analyze the structure of the equivariant $K$-ring of $M$ as a module over the equivariant $K$-ring of $B$ by translating the fiber bundle, $π$, into a fiber bundle of GKM graphs and constructing, by combinatorial techniques, a basis of this module consisting of $K$-classes which are invariant under the natural holonomy action on the $K$-ring of $M$ of the fundamental group of the GKM graph of $B$. We also discuss the implications of this result for fiber bundles $π\colon M\to B$ where $M$ and $B$ are generalized partial flag varieties an…
We study the Farrell-Jones Conjecture with coefficients in an additive G-category with involution. This is a variant of the L-theoretic Farrell-Jones Conjecture which originally deals with group rings with the standard involution. We show that this formulation of the conjecture can be applied to crossed product rings R*G equipped with twisted involutions and automatically implies the a priori more general fibered version.
