For an untwisted affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra $\tilde{\mathfrak g}$, and a given positive integer level $k$, vertex operators $x(z)=\sum x(n)z^{-n-1}$, $x\in\mathfrak g$, generate a vertex operator algebra $V$. For the maximal root $θ$ and a root vector $x_θ$ of the corresponding finite-dimensional $\mathfrak g$, the field $x_θ(z)^{k+1}$ generates all annihilating fields of level $k$ standard $\tilde{\mathfrak g}$-modules. In this paper we study the kernel of the normal order product map $r(z)\otimes Y(v,z)\mapsto :r(z) Y(v,z):$ for $v\in V$ and $r(z)$ in the space of annihilating fields generated by the action of $\tfrac{d}{dz}$ and $\mathfrak g$ on $x_θ(z)^{k+1}$. We call the elements of this kernel the relations for annihilating fields, and the main result is that this kernel is generated, in certain sense, by the relation $x_θ(z)\tfrac{d}{dz}(x_θ(z)^{k+1})= (k+1)x_θ(z)^{k+1}\tfrac{d}{dz}x_θ(z)$. This study is motivated by Lepowsky-Wilson's approach to combinatorial Rogers-Ramanujan type identities, and many ideas used here stem from a joint work with Arne Meurman.
J. Lepowsky and R. L. Wilson initiated the approach to combinatorial Rogers-Ramanujan type identities via the vertex operator constructions of representations of affine Lie algebras. In a joint work with Arne Meurman this approach is developed further in the framework of vertex operator algebras. The main ingredients of that construction are defining relations for standard modules and relations among them. The arguments involve both representation theory and combinatorics, the final results hold only for affine Lie algebras $A_1^{(1)}$ and $A_2^{(1)}$. In the present paper some of those argume…
We show that a set of local admissible fields generates a vertex algebra. For an affine Lie algebra $\tilde\goth g$ we construct the corresponding level $k$ vertex operator algebra and we show that level $k$ highest weight $\tilde\goth g$-modules are modules for this vertex operator algebra. We determine the set of annihilating fields of level $k$ standard modules and we study the corresponding loop $\tilde\goth g$ module---the set of relations that defines standard modules. In the case when $\tilde\goth g$ is of type $A_1^{(1)}$, we construct bases of standard modules parameterized by colored…
We obtain a presentation by generators and relations of any Nichols algebra of diagonal type with finite root system. We prove that the defining ideal is finitely generated. The proof is based in Kharchenko's theory of PBW basis of Lyndon words. We prove that the lexicographic order on Lyndon words is convex for such PBW generators and so the PBW basis is orthogonal with respect to the canonical non-degenerate form associated to the Nichols algebra.
For the standard Drinfeld-Jimbo quantum group ${\rm U}_q(\mathfrak{g})$ associated with a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we construct explicit generators of the centre $Z({\rm U}_q(\mathfrak{g}))$, and determine the relations satisfied by the generators. For $\mathfrak{g}$ of type $A_n(n\geq 2)$, $D_{2k+1}(k\geq 2)$ or $E_6$, the centre $Z({\rm U}_q(\mathfrak{g}))$ is isomorphic to a quotient of a polynomial algebra in multiple variables, which is described in a uniform manner for all cases. For $\mathfrak{g}$ of any other type, $Z({\rm U}_q(\mathfrak{g}))$ is generated by $n=$rank$(\mathf…
We give a generators-and-relations description of differential graded algebras recently introduced by Ozsváth and Szabó for the computation of knot Floer homology. We also compute the homology of these algebras and determine when they are formal.
We obtain a presentation of Schur algebras (and q-Schur algebras) by generators and relations which is compatible with the usual presentation of the enveloping algebra (quantized enveloping algebra) corresponding to the Lie algebra gl(n) of n x n matrices. We also find several new bases of Schur algebras and their corresponding integral forms.
In this note we propose a construction of the Hopf algebra of a complex analog of devided powers of the Weyl generators of a semisimple simply-laced quantum group. Here we consider the generators as positive, self-adjoint operators. In particular, we generalize the Lusztig relations on the usual divided powers of generators of a quantum group to the case of complex devided powers of generators. These relations, some of which were known present the complete set of defining relations. As a by-product result, the pure algebraic definition of the Faddeev modular double in the case of semisimple si…
For an affine Lie algebra $\hat{\mathfrak g}$ the coefficients of certain vertex operators which annihilate level $k$ standard $\hat{\mathfrak g}$-modules are the defining relations for level $k$ standard modules. In this paper we study a combinatorial structure of the leading terms of these relations for level $k=2$ standard $\hat{\mathfrak g}$-modules for affine Lie algebras of type $C_{n}\sp{(1)}$ and the main result is a construction of combinatorially parameterized relations among the coefficients of annihilating fields. It is believed that the constructed relations among relations will p…
We give some general results about the generators and relations for the higher level Zhu algebras for a vertex operator algebra. In particular, for any element $u$ in a vertex operator algebra $V$, such that $u$ has weight greater than or equal to $-n$ for $n \in \mathbb{N}$, we prove a recursion relation in the $n$th level Zhu algebra $A_n(V)$ and give a closed formula for this relation. We use this and other properties of $A_n(V)$ to reduce the modes of $u$ that appear in the generators for $A_n(V)$ as long as $u \in V$ has certain properties (properties that apply, for instance, to the conf…
In this note we prove an integral identity involving complex powers of generators of quantum group $U_{q}(\mathfrak{sl}(3))$ considered as certain positive operators in the setting of positive principal series representations. This identity represents a continuous analog of one of the Lusztig's relations between divided powers of generators of quantum groups, which play an important role in the study of irreducible modules \cite{Lu 1}. We also give definitions of arbitrary functions of $U_{q}(\mathfrak{sl}(3))$ generators and give another proofs for some of the known results concerning positiv…
We use the technique of quantum skew Howe duality to investigate the monoidal category of exterior powers of the standard representation of $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(1|1))$. This produces a complete diagrammatic description of the category in terms of trivalent graphs, with the usual MOY relations plus one additional family of relations. The technique also gives a useful connection between a system of symmetries on $\bigoplus_m \dot{U}_q(\mathfrak{gl}(m))$ and the braiding on the category of $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(1|1))$-representations which can be used to construct the Alexander polynomial and coloured…
In Kac's classification of finite-dimensional Lie superalgebras, the contragredient ones can be constructed from Dynkin diagrams similar to those of the simple finite-dimensional Lie algebras, but with additional types of nodes. For example, $A(n-1,0) = \mathfrak{sl}(1|n)$ can be constructed by adding a "gray" node to the Dynkin diagram of $A_{n-1} = \mathfrak{sl}(n)$, corresponding to an odd null root. The Cartan superalgebras constitute a different class, where the simplest example is $W(n)$, the derivation algebra of the Grassmann algebra on $n$ generators. Here we present a novel construct…
In his PhD thesis, Goosen combined the string-net and the generators-and-relations formalisms for arbitrary once-extended 3-dimensional TQFTs. In this paper we work this out in detail for the simplest non-trivial example, where the underlying spherical fusion category is the category of $\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z}$-graded vector spaces. This allows us to give an elementary string-net description of the linear maps associated to 3-dimensional bordisms. The string-net formalism also simplifies the description of the mapping class group action in the resulting TQFT. We conclude the paper by performin…
In this paper we prove a conjecture of B. Shoikhet which claims that two quantization procedures arising from Fourier dual constructions actually coincide.
When the parameter of deformation q is a m-th root of unity, the centre of U_q(sl(N))$ contains, besides the usual q-deformed Casimirs, a set of new generators, which are basically the m-th powers of all the Cartan generators of U_q(sl(N)). All these central elements are however not independent. In this letter, generalising the well-known case of U_q(sl(2)), we explicitly write polynomial relations satisfied by the generators of the centre. Application to the parametrization of irreducible representations and to fusion rules are sketched.
The $q$-Onsager algebra $O_q$ is defined by two generators and two relations, called the $q$-Dolan/Grady relations. We investigate the alternating central extension $\mathcal O_q$ of $O_q$. The algebra $\mathcal O_q$ was introduced by Baseilhac and Koizumi, who called it the current algebra of $O_q$. Recently Baseilhac and Shigechi gave a presentation of $\mathcal O_q$ by generators and relations. The presentation is attractive, but the multitude of generators and relations makes the presentation unwieldy. In this paper we obtain a presentation of $\mathcal O_q$ that involves a subset of the o…
Let $A$ be the path algebra of a Dynkin quiver over a finite field, and let $C_1(\mathscr{P})$ be the category of 1-cyclic complexes of projective $A$-modules. In the present paper, we give a PBW-basis and a minimal set of generators for the Hall algebra $\H(C_1(\mathscr{P}))$ of $C_1(\mathscr{P})$. Using this PBW-basis, we firstly prove the degenerate Hall algebra of $C_1(\mathscr{P})$ is the universal enveloping algebra of the Lie algebra spanned by all indecomposable objects. Secondly, we calculate the relations in the generators in $\H(C_1(\mathscr{P}))$, and obtain quantum Serre relations…
As an alternative to Chevalley generators, we introduce Jacobson generators for the quantum superalgebra $U_q[sl(n+1|m)]$. The expressions of all Cartan-Weyl elements of $U_q[sl(n+1|m)]$ in terms of these Jacobson generators become very simple. We determine and prove certain triple relations between the Jacobson generators, necessary for a complete set of supercommutation relations between the Cartan-Weyl elements. Fock representations are defined, and a substantial part of this paper is devoted to the computation of the action of Jacobson generators on basis vectors of these Fock spaces. It i…
The purpose of the present paper is to introduce and explore two surprises that arise when we apply a standard procedure to study the number of finite type invariants of 3-manifolds introduced independently by M. Goussarov and K. Habiro based on surgery on claspers, Y-graphs or clovers, \cite{Gu,Ha,GGP}. One surprise is that the upper bounds depend on a bit more than a choice of generators for H_1. A complementary surprise a curious brane relation (in two flavors, open and closed) which shows that the upper bounds are in a certain sense independent of the choice of generators of H_1.
A novel generalization of the Askey-Wilson algebra is presented and shown to be associated with coproducts in the quantum algebra $U_q(su(1,1))$. This algebra has 15 non-commuting generators given by $Q^{(A)}$, with $A\subset \{1,2,3,4\}$ and their 5 linearly independent inversions generated by the algebra automorphism $q\rightarrow q^{-1}$, $E\leftrightarrow F.$ The set of generators can be split into operators fixed under inversion, and those with an orientation under this inversion. We then show that the generators will either commute or satisfy q-commutator relations linear in the generato…
A quadratic semigroup algebra is an algebra over a field given by the generators $x_1,...,x_n$ and a finite set of quadratic relations each of which either has the shape $x_jx_k=0$ or the shape $x_jx_k=x_lx_m$. We prove that a quadratic semigroup algebra given by $n$ generators and $d\leq \frac{n^2+n}{4}$ relations is always infinite dimensional. This strengthens the Golod--Shafarevich estimate for the above class of algebras. Our main result however is that for every $n$, there is a finite dimensional quadratic semigroup algebra with $n$ generators and $δ_n$ relations, where $δ_n$ is the firs…
Recently B. Hartwig and the second author found a presentation for the three-point $sl_2$ loop algebra via generators and relations. To obtain this presentation they defined an algebra $\boxtimes$ by generators and relations, and displayed an isomorphism from $\boxtimes$ to the three-point $sl_2$ loop algebra. We introduce a quantum analog of $\boxtimes$ which we call $\boxtimes_q$. We define $\boxtimes_q$ via generators and relations. We show how $\boxtimes_q$ is related to the quantum group $U_q(sl_2)$, the $U_q(sl_2)$ loop algebra, and the positive part of $U_q(\hat{sl_2})$. We describe the…
Certain non-linear relations between the generators of the (q-deformed) Heisenberg algebra are found. Some of these relations are invariant under quantization and $q$-deformation.
Let $\{A_j|j=0,1,...,rank(g)\}$ be the fundamental generators of the generalized $q-$Onsager algebra $\cal O_{q}(\widehat{g})$ introduced in \cite{BB1}, where $\widehat{g}$ is a simply-laced affine Lie algebra. New relations between certain monomials of the fundamental generators - indexed by the integer $r\in\mathbb{Z}^{+}$ - are conjectured. These relations can be seen as deformed analogues of Lusztig's $r-$th higher order $q-$Serre relations associated with ${\cal U}_q({\widehat g})$, which are recovered as special cases. The relations are proven for $r\leq 5$. For $r$ generic, several supp…
