For a representation of a finite group $G$ on a complex vector space $V$ we determine when a holomorphic $\binom{p}{q}$-tensor field on the principle stratum of the orbit space $V/G$ can be lifted to a holomorphic $G$-invariant tensor field on $V$. This extends also to connections. As a consequence we determine those holomorphic diffeomorphisms on $V/G$ which can be lifted to orbit preserving holomorphic diffeomorphisms on $V$. This in turn is applied to characterize complex orbifolds.
We prove the existence of non-positively curved Kähler-Einstein metrics with cone singularities along a given simple normal crossing divisor on a compact Kähler manifold, under a technical condition on the cone angles, and we also discuss the case of positively-curved Kähler-Einstein metrics with cone singularities. As an application we extend to this setting classical results of Lichnerowicz and Kobayashi on the parallelism and vanishing of appropriate holomorphic tensor fields.
The following result is proved: Consider a 4-dimensional Kaehler manifold M with nonvanishing Bochner tensor B. Then any holomorphic transformation of M, which preserves B is a homothety.
Let $(ϕ_t)$ be a holomorphic semigroup of the unit disc (i.e., the flow of a semicomplete holomorphic vector field) without fixed points in the unit disc and let $Ω$ be the starlike at infinity domain image of the Koenigs function of $(ϕ_t)$. In this paper we completely characterize the type of convergence of the orbits of $(ϕ_t)$ to the Denjoy-Wolff point in terms of the shape of $Ω$. In particular we prove that the convergence is non-tangential if and only if the domain $Ω$ is `quasi-symmetric with respect to vertical axes'. We also prove that such conditions are equivalent to the curve $[0,…
Let $M$ be a three-dimensional contact manifold and $ψ:D\setminus\{0\}\to M\times{\Bbb R}$ a finite-energy pseudoholomorphic map from a punctured disc in ${\Bbb C}$, that is asymptotic to a periodic orbit of the Reeb vector field. This article examines conditions under which smooth coordinates may be defined in a tubular neighbourhood of the orbit such that $ψ$ resembles a holomorphic curve, invoking comparison with the theory of topological linking of plane complex algebroid curves near a singularity. Examples of this behaviour which are studied in some detail include pseudoholomorphic maps i…
This thesis studies the symplectic structure of holomorphic coadjoint orbits, and their projections. A holomorphic coadjoint orbit O is an elliptic coadjoint orbit which is endowed with a natural invariant Kählerian structure. These coadjoint orbits are defined for a real semi-simple connected non-compact Lie group G with finite center, such that G/K is a Hermitian symmetric space, where K is a maximal compact subgroup of G. Holomorphic coadjoint orbits are a generalization of the Hermitian symmetric space G/K. In this thesis, we prove that the McDuff's symplectomorphism on Hermitian symmetric…
We study the $J-$holomorphic curves in the symplectization of the contact manifolds and prove that there exists at least one periodic Reeb orbits in any closed contact manifold with any contact form by using the well-known Gromov's nonlinear Fredholm alternative for $J-$holomorphic curves. As a corollary, we give a complete solution on the well-known Weinstein conjecture.
Let K be a finite-dimensional, 1-connected complex Lie group, and let Σ_k=Σ- {p_1,\ldots,p_k\} be a compact connected Riemann surface Σ, from which we have extracted k > 0 distinct points. We study in this article the regular Frechet-Lie group O(Σ_k,K) of holomorphic maps from Σ_k to K and its central extension \widehat{O(Σ_k,K)}. We feature especially the automorphism groups of these Lie groups as well as the coadjoint orbits of \widehat{O(Σ_k,K)} which we link to flat K-bundles on Σ_k.
Each of the four critical Severi varieties arises from a minimal holomorphic nilpotent orbit in a simple regular rank 3 hermitian Lie algebra and each such variety lies as singular locus in a cubic--the chordal variety--in the corresponding complex projective space; the cubic and projective space are identified in terms of holomorphic nilpotent orbits. The projective space acquires an exotic Kähler structure with three strata, the cubic is an example of an exotic projective variety with two strata, and the corresponding Severi variety is the closed stratum in the exotic variety as well as in t…
We give a complete proof of a propagation theorem of multiplicity-free property from fibers to spaces of global sections for holomorphic vector bundles. The propagation theorem is formalised in three ways, aiming for producing various multiplicity-free theorems in representation theory for both finite and infinite dimensional cases in a systematic and synthetic manner. The key geometric condition in our theorem is an orbit-preserving anti-holomorphic diffeomorphism on the base space, which brings us to the concept of visible actions on complex manifolds.
We study spectral behavior of the complex Laplacian on forms with values in the $k^{\text{th}}$ tensor power of a holomorphic line bundle over a smoothly bounded domain with degenerated boundary in a complex manifold. In particular, we prove that in the two dimensional case, a pseudoconvex domain is of finite type if and only if for any positive constant $C$, the number of eigenvalues of the $\overline\partial$-Neumann Laplacian less than or equal to $Ck$ grows polynomially as $k$ tends to infinity.
In this paper we consider the complex vector spaces of holomorphic cross-sections of homogeneous holomorphic vector bundles over elliptic adjoint orbits, and provide a sufficient condition for the vector spaces to be finite dimensional in view of root systems.
This is an extensive (published) survey on CR geometry, whose major themes are: formal analytic reflection principle; generic properties of Systems of (CR) vector fields; pairs of foliations and conjugate reflection identities; Sussmann's orbit theorem; local and global aspects of holomorphic extension of CR functions; Tumanov's solution of Bishop's equation in Hoelder classes with optimal loss of smoothness; wedge-extendability on C^2,a generic submanifolds of C^n consisting of a single CR orbit; propagation of CR extendability and edge-of-the-wedge theorem; Painlevé problem; metrically thin …
We classify the holomorphic structures of the tangent vertical bundle T of the twistor fibration of a quaternionic manifold (M,Q) of dimension bigger than four. In particular, we show that any self-dual quaternionic connection on (M, Q) induces an holomorphic structure on T. We prove that the positive tensor powers of T have no global holomorphic sections, when (M,Q) is compact and admits a compatible quaternionic-Kahler metric of negative (respectively, zero) scalar curvature and the holomorphic structure of T is induced by a closed (respectively, closed but not exact) quaternionic connection…
The properties of Kaehler submanifolds with recurrent the second fundamental form in spaces of constant holomorphic sectional curvature are being studied in this article.
For a stratified symplectic space, a suitable concept of stratified Kaehler polarization, defined in terms of an appropriate Lie-Rinehart algebra, encapsulates Kaehler polarizations on the strata and the behaviour of the polarizations across the strata and leads to the notion of stratified Kaehler space. This notion establishes an intimate relationship between nilpotent orbits, singular reduction, invariant theory, reductive dual pairs, Jordan triple systems, symmetric domains, and pre-homogeneous spaces; in particular, in the world of singular Poisson geometry, the closures of principal holom…
In the present paper we study flag manifold sigma-models that admit a zero-curvature representation. It is shown that these models may be naturally considered as interacting (holomorphic and anti-holomorphic) $βγ$-systems. Besides, using the theory of nilpotent orbits of complex Lie groups, we establish a relation to the principal chiral model.
In this paper we introduce a new algebraic device, which enables us to treat the quaternions as though they were a commutative field. This is of interest both for its own sake, and because it can be applied to develop an "algebraic geometry" of noncompact hypercomplex manifolds. The basic building blocks of the theory are AH modules, which should be thought of "vector spaces" over the quaternions. An AH-module is a left module over the quaternions H, together with a real vector subspace. There are natural concepts of linear map and tensor product of AH-modules, which have many of the propertie…
A visible action on a complex manifold is a holomorphic action that admits a $J$-transversal totally real submanifold $S$. It is said to be strongly visible if there exists an orbit-preserving anti-holomorphic diffeomorphism $σ$ such that $σ|_S = \mathrm{id}$. In this paper, we prove that for any Hermitian symmetric space $D = G/K$ the action of any symmetric subgroup $H$ is strongly visible. The proof is carried out by finding explicitly an orbit-preserving anti-holomorphic involution and a totally real submanifold $S$. Our geometric results provide a uniform proof of various multiplicity-fre…
Representations of $C^*$-algebras are realized on section spaces of holomorphic homogeneous vector bundles. The corresponding section spaces are investigated by means of a new notion of reproducing kernel, suitable for dealing with involutive diffeomorphisms defined on the base spaces of the bundles. Applications of this technique to dilation theory of completely positive maps are explored and the critical role of complexified homogeneous spaces in connection with the Stinespring dilations is pointed out. The general results are further illustrated by a discussion of several specific topics, i…
We emphasize some properties of coherent state groups, i.e. groups whose quotient with the stationary groups, are manifolds which admit a holomorphic embedding in a projective Hilbert space. We determine the differential action of the generators of the representation of coherent state groups on the symmetric Fock space attached to the dual of the Hilbert space of the representation. This permits a realization by first-order differential operators with holomorphic polynomial coefficients on Kähler coherent state orbits.
In a setting of a complex manifold with a fixed positive line bundle and a submanifold, we consider the optimal Ohsawa-Takegoshi extension operator, sending a holomorphic section of the line bundle on the submanifold to the holomorphic extension of it on the ambient manifold with the minimal $L^2$-norm. We show that for a tower of submanifolds in the semiclassical setting, i.e. when we consider a large tensor power of the line bundle, the extension operators satisfy transitivity property modulo some small defect, which can be expressed through Toeplitz type operators. We calculate the first si…
We established existence of periodic Reeb orbits for a large class of tight contact structures on closed 3-manifolds, notably the Stein fillable structures, based on a fundamental theorem of Cliff Taubes on symplectic 4-manifolds.
Given a holomorphic principal bundle $Q\, \longrightarrow\, X$, the universal space of holomorphic connections is a torsor $C_1(Q)$ for $\text{ad} Q \otimes T^*X$ such that the pullback of $Q$ to $C_1(Q)$ has a tautological holomorphic connection. When $X\,=\, G/P$, where $P$ is a parabolic subgroup of a complex simple group $G$, and $Q$ is the frame bundle of an ample line bundle, we show that $C_1(Q)$ may be identified with $G/L$, where $L\, \subset\, P$ is a Levi factor. We use this identification to construct the twistor space associated to a natural hyper-Kähler metric on $T^*(G/P)$, reco…
Let $(M,h)$ be a Hermitian manifold and $ψ$ a smooth weight function on $M$. The $\partial$-complex on weighted Bergman spaces $A^2_{(p,0)}(M,h, e^{-ψ})$ of holomorphic $(p,0)$-forms was recently studied in [[10] and [9]. It was shown that if $h$ is Kähler and a suitable density condition holds, the $\partial$-complex exhibits an interesting holomorphicity/duality property when $(\bar\partialψ)^{\sharp}$ is holomorphic (i.e., when the real gradient field $\mathrm{grad}_hψ$ is a real holomorphic vector field). For general Hermitian metrics this property does not hold without the holomorphicity …
We study a generalization of Hodge structures which first appeared in the work of Cecotti and Vafa. It consists of twistors, that is, holomorphic vector bundles on P^1, with additional structure, a flat connection on C^*, a real subbundle and a pairing. We call these objects TERP-structures. We generalize to TERP-structures a correspondence of Cattani, Kaplan and Schmid between nilpotent orbits of Hodge structures and polarized mixed Hodge structures. The proofs use work of Simpson and Mochizuki on variations of twistor structures and a control of the Stokes structures of the poles at zero and…
We consider the Riemannian functional defined on the space of Riemannian metrics with unit volume on a closed smooth manifold M given by $R_p(g) :=\int_M|R(g)|^pdvg$ where $R(g)$, $dv_g$ denote the corresponding Riemannian curvature, volume form and p is a real number greater than or equal to 2. We prove that $R_p$ restricted to the space of Kahler metrics attains its local minima at a metric with constant holomorphic sectional curvature.
The boundary at infinity of a quasifuchsian hyperbolic manifold is equiped with a holomorphic quadratic differential. Its horizontal measured foliation $f$ can be interpreted as the natural analog of the measured bending lamination on the boundary of the convex core. This analogy leads to a number of questions. We provide a variation formula for the renormalized volume in terms of the extremal length $\ext(f)$ of $f$, and an upper bound on $\ext(f)$. We then describe two extensions of the holomorphic quadratic differential at infinity, both valid in higher dimensions. One is in terms of Poinca…
We study complex 4-manifolds with holomorphic self-dual conformal structures, and we obtain an interpretation of the Weyl tensor of such a manifold as the projective curvature of a field of cones on the ambitwistor space. In particular, its vanishing is implied by the existence of some compact, simply-connected, null-geodesics. We also relate the Cotton-York tensor of an umbilic hypersurface to the Weyl tensor of the ambient. As a consequence, a conformal 3-manifold or a self-dual 4-manifold admitting a rational curve as a null-geodesic is conformally flat. We show that the projective structur…
We establish a Penrose-Ward transform yielding a bijection between holomorphic principal 2-bundles over a twistor space and non-Abelian self-dual tensor fields on six-dimensional flat space-time. Extending the twistor space to supertwistor space, we derive sets of manifestly N=(1,0) and N=(2,0) supersymmetric non-Abelian constraint equations containing the tensor multiplet. We also demonstrate how this construction leads to constraint equations for non-Abelian supersymmetric self-dual strings.
We extend the equivariant holomorphic Morse inequalities of circle actions to cases with torus and non-Abelian group actions on holomorphic vector bundles over Kahler manifolds and show the necessity of the Kahler condition. For torus actions, there is a set of inequalities for each choice of action chambers specifying directions in the Lie algebra of the torus. We apply the results to invariant line bundles over toric manifolds. If the group is non-Abelian, there is in addition an action of the Weyl group on the fixed-point set of its maximal torus. The sum over the fixed points can be rearra…
In this paper we propose a noncommutative generalization of the relationship between compact Kähler manifolds and complex projective algebraic varieties. Beginning with a prequantized Kähler structure, we use a holomorphic Poisson tensor to deform the underlying complex structure into a generalized complex structure, such that the prequantum line bundle and its tensor powers deform to a sequence of generalized complex branes. Taking homomorphisms between the resulting branes, we obtain a noncommutative deformation of the homogeneous coordinate ring. As a proof of concept, this is implemented f…
