For a stratified symplectic space, a suitable concept of stratified Kaehler polarization, defined in terms of an appropriate Lie-Rinehart algebra, encapsulates Kaehler polarizations on the strata and the behaviour of the polarizations across the strata and leads to the notion of stratified Kaehler space. This notion establishes an intimate relationship between nilpotent orbits, singular reduction, invariant theory, reductive dual pairs, Jordan triple systems, symmetric domains, and pre-homogeneous spaces; in particular, in the world of singular Poisson geometry, the closures of principal holomorphic nilpotent orbits, positive definite hermitian JTS's, and certain pre-homogeneous spaces appear as different incarnations of the same structure. The space of representations of the fundamental group of a closed surface in a compact Lie group inherits a (positive) normal (stratified) Kaehler structure, as does the closure of a holomorphic nilpotent orbit in a semisimple Lie algebra of hermitian type. The closure of the principal holomorphic nilpotent orbit arises from a regular semisimple holomorphic orbit by contraction. Symplectic reduction carries a (positive) Kaehler manifold to a (positive) normal Kaehler space in such a way that the sheaf of germs of polarized functions thereupon coincides with the ordinary sheaf of germs of holomorphic functions. Symplectic reduction establishes a close relationship between singular reduced spaces and nilpotent orbits of the dual groups. Projectivization of holomorphic nilpotent orbits yields exotic stratified Kaehler structures on complex projective spaces and on certain complex projective varieties including complex projective quadrics. Physical examples are provided by certain reduced spaces arising from angular momentum zero.
We prove that no nilpotent Lie algebra admits an invariant generalized Kaehler structure. This is done by showing that a certain differential graded algebra associated to a generalized complex manifold is formal in the generalized Kaehler case, while it is never formal for a generalized complex structure on a nilpotent Lie algebra.
Given a compact Lie group, endowed with a bi-invariant Riemannian metric, its complexification inherits a Kaehler structure having twice the kinetic energy of the metric as its potential, and Kaehler reduction with reference to the adjoint action yields a stratified Kaehler structure on the resulting adjoint quotient. Exploiting classical invariant theory, in particular bisymmetric functions and variants thereof, we explore the singular Poisson-Kaehler geometry of this quotient. Among other things we prove that, for various compact groups, the real coordinate ring of the adjoint quotient is ge…
We study the asymptotics of Fubini-Study currents and zeros of random holomorphic sections associated to a sequence of singular Hermitian line bundles on a compact normal Kaehler complex space.
In this article we introduce a generalization of locally conformally Kaehler metrics from complex manifolds to complex analytic spaces with singularities and study which properties of locally conformally Kaehler manifolds still hold in this new setting. We prove that if a complex analytic space has only quotient singularities, then it admits a locally conformally Kaehler metric if and only if its universal cover admits a Kaehler metric such that the deck automorphisms act by homotheties of the Kaehler metric. We also prove that the blow-up at a point of a LCK complex space is also LCK.
F. Podestà and A. Spiro introduced a class of $G$-manifolds $M$ with a cohomogeneity one action of a compact semisimple Lie group $G$ which admit an invariant Kaehler structure $(g,J)$ (``standard $G$-manifolds") and studied invariant Kaehler and Kaehler-Einstein metrics on $M$. In the first part of this paper, we gave a combinatoric description of the standard non compact $G$-manifolds as the total space $M_φ$ of the homogeneous vector bundle $M = G\times_H V \to S_0 =G/H$ over a flag manifold $S_0$ and we gave necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an invariant Kaehler-Eins…
It is shown that the singular set for the Yang-Mills flow on unstable holomorphic vector bundles over compact Kaehler manifolds is completely determined by the Harder-Narasimhan-Seshadri filtration of the initial holomorphic bundle. We assign a multiplicity to irreducible top dimensional components of the singular set of a holomorphic bundle with a filtration by saturated subsheaves. We derive a singular Bott-Chern formula relating the second Chern form of a smooth metric on the bundle to the Chern current of an admissible metric on the associated graded sheaf. This is used to show that the mu…
We give an analog of triangle comparison for Kaehler manifolds with a lower bound on the holomorphic bisectional curvature. We show that the condition passes to noncollapsed Gromov-Hausdorff limits. We discuss tangent cones and singular Kaehler spaces.
We study Hamiltonian dynamics of gradient Kaehler-Ricci solitons that arise as limits of dilations of singularities of the Ricci flow on compact Kaehler manifolds. Our main result is that the underlying spaces of such gradient solitons must be Stein manifolds. Moreover, on all most all energy surfaces of the potential function f of such a soliton, the Hamiltonian vector field V_f of f, with respect to the Kaehler form of the gradient soliton metric, admits a periodic orbit. The latter should be impotant in the study of singularities of the Ricci flow on compact Kaehler manifolds in light of th…
We obtain estimates on the character of the cohomology of an $S^1$-equivariant holomorphic vector bundle over a Kaehler manifold $M$ in terms of the cohomology of the Lerman symplectic cuts and the symplectic reduction of $M$. In particular, we prove and extend inequalities conjectured by Wu and Zhang. The proof is based on constructing a flat family of complex spaces $M_t$ such that $M_t$ is isomorphic to $M$ for $t\not=0$, while $M_0$ is a singular reducible complex space, whose irreducible components are the Lerman symplectic cuts.
We deal with compact Kaehler manifolds M which are acted on by a semisimple compact Lie group G of isometries with codimension one regular orbits. We provide an explicit description of the standard blow-ups of such manifolds along complex singular orbits, in case b_1(M) = 0 and the regular orbits are Levi nondegenerate. Up to very few exceptions, all the nonhomogeneous manifolds in this class are shown to admit a G-invariant Kaehler-Einstein metric, giving completely new examples of compact Kaehler-Einstein manifolds.
For a real, non-singular, 2-step nilpotent Lie algebra $\mathfrak{n}$, the group \Aut(\mathfrak{n})/\Aut_0(\mathfrak{n})$, where $\Aut_0(\mathfrak{n})$ is the group of automorphisms which act trivially on the center, is the direct product of a compact group with the 1-dimensional group of dilations. Maximality of some automorphisms groups of $\mathfrak{n}$ follows and is related to how close is $\mathfrak{n}$ to being of Heisenberg type. For example, at least when the dimension of the center is two, $\dim \Aut(\mathfrak{n})$ is maximal if and only if $\mathfrak{n}$ is type $H$. The connection …
We define non-pluripolar products of closed positive currents on a compact Kaehler manifold. We show that a positive non-pluripolar measure can be written in a unique way as the top degree self-intersection (in the non-pluripolar sense) of a closed positive current in given big cohomology class. The solution is shown to have minimal singularities in the sense of Demailly if the measure is regular enough. These results are combined with a fixed point argument to construct singular Kaehler-Einstein volume forms with minimal singularities on varieties of general type.
In this paper, we establish a number of results about the topology of the leaves of a closed singular Riemannian foliation $(M,\fol)$. If $M$ is simply connected, we prove that the leaves are finitely covered by nilpotent spaces, and characterize the fundamental group of the generic leaves. If $M$ has virtually nilpotent fundamental group, we prove that the leaves have virtually nilpotent fundamental group as well.
Let $L$ be a holomorphic line bundle over a compact Kähler manifold $X$ endowed with a singular Hermitian metric $h$ with curvature current $c_1(L,h)\geq0$. In certain cases when the wedge product $c_1(L,h)^k$ is a well defined current for some positive integer $k\leq\dim X$, we prove that $c_1(L,h)^k$ can be approximated by averages of currents of integration over the common zero sets of $k$-tuples of holomorphic sections over $X$ of the high powers $L^p:=L^{\otimes p}$. In the second part of the paper we study the convergence of the Fubini-Study currents and the equidistribution of zeros of …
The aim of this work is the study of left-invariant magnetic fields on 2-step nilpotent Lie groups. While the existence of closed 2-forms for which the center is either nondegenerate or in the kernel of the 2-form, is always guaranteed, the existence of closed 2-forms for which the center is isotropic but not in the kernel of the 2-form, is a special situation. These 2-forms are called of type II. We obtain a strong obstruction for the existence on non-singular Lie algebras. Moreover, we prove that the only $H$-type Lie groups admitting closed 2-forms of type II are the real, complex and quate…
By the quantization condition compact quantizable Kaehler manifolds can be embedded into projective space. In this way they become projective varieties. The quantum Hilbert space of the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization (and of the geometric quantization) is the projective coordinate ring of the embedded manifold. This allows for generalization to the case of singular varieties. The set-up is explained in the first part of the contribution. The second part of the contribution is of tutorial nature. Necessary notions, concepts, and results of algebraic geometry appearing in this approach to quantiz…
We prove unobstructed deformations for compact Kaehlerian even-dimensional Poisson manifolds whose Poisson tensor degenerates along a divisor with mild singularities. Examples include Hilbert schemes of del Pezzo surfaces.
Each of the four critical Severi varieties arises from a minimal holomorphic nilpotent orbit in a simple regular rank 3 hermitian Lie algebra and each such variety lies as singular locus in a cubic--the chordal variety--in the corresponding complex projective space; the cubic and projective space are identified in terms of holomorphic nilpotent orbits. The projective space acquires an exotic Kähler structure with three strata, the cubic is an example of an exotic projective variety with two strata, and the corresponding Severi variety is the closed stratum in the exotic variety as well as in t…
We study a generalization of Hodge structures which first appeared in the work of Cecotti and Vafa. It consists of twistors, that is, holomorphic vector bundles on P^1, with additional structure, a flat connection on C^*, a real subbundle and a pairing. We call these objects TERP-structures. We generalize to TERP-structures a correspondence of Cattani, Kaplan and Schmid between nilpotent orbits of Hodge structures and polarized mixed Hodge structures. The proofs use work of Simpson and Mochizuki on variations of twistor structures and a control of the Stokes structures of the poles at zero and…
Let $E$ be a holomorphic vector bundle. Let $θ$ be a Higgs field, that is a holomorphic section of $End(E)\otimesΩ^{1,0}_X$ satisfying $θ^2=0$. Let $h$ be a pluriharmonic metric of the Higgs bundle $(E,θ)$. The tuple $(E,θ,h)$ is called a harmonic bundle. Let $X$ be a complex manifold, and $D$ be a normal crossing divisor of $X$. In this paper, we study the harmonic bundle $(E,θ,h)$ over $X-D$. We regard $D$ as the singularity of $(E,θ,h)$, and we are particularly interested in the asymptotic behaviour of the harmonic bundle around $D$. We will see that it is similar to the asymptotic behaviou…
