Inspired by the homological mirror symmetry conjecture of Kontsevich, we construct new classes of automorphisms of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a smooth Calabi-Yau variety.
In this paper we consider the class of K3 surfaces defined as hypersurfaces in weighted projective space, and admitting a non-symplectic automorphism of non-prime order, excluding the orders 4, 8, and 12. We show that on these surfaces the Berglund-Hübsch-Krawitz mirror construction and mirror symmetry for lattice polarized K3 surfaces constructed by Dolgachev agree; that is, both versions of mirror symmetry define the same mirror K3 surface.
We show that there is an extra dimension to the mirror duality discovered in the early nineties by Greene-Plesser and Berglund-Hübsch. Their duality matches cohomology classes of two Calabi--Yau orbifolds. When both orbifolds are equipped with an automorphism $s$ of the same order, our mirror duality involves the weight of the action of $s^*$ on cohomology. In particular, it matches the respective $s$-fixed loci, which are not Calabi-Yau in general. When applied to K3 surfaces with non-symplectic automorphism $s$ of odd prime order, this provides a proof that Berglund-Hübsch mirror symmetry im…
We consider K3 surfaces that possess certain automorphisms of prime order p>2 and we present, for these surfaces, a correspondence between the mirror symmetry of Berglund-Huebsch-Chiodo-Ruan and that for lattice polarized K3 surfaces presented by Dolgachev.
We consider compactifications of type IIA superstring theory on mirror-folds obtained as K3 fibrations over two-tori with non-geometric monodromies involving mirror symmetries. At special points in the moduli space these are asymmetric Gepner models. The compactifications are constructed from non-geometric automorphisms that arise from the diagonal action of an automorphism of the K3 surface and of an automorphism of the mirror surface. We identify the corresponding gaugings of N=4 supergravity in four dimensions, and show that the minima of the potential describe the same four-dimensional low…
We discuss D-branes of the topological A-model (A-branes), which are believed to be closely related to the Fukaya category. We give string theory arguments which show that A-branes are not necessarily Lagrangian submanifolds in the Calabi-Yau: more general coisotropic branes are also allowed, if the line bundle on the brane is not flat. We show that a coisotropic A-brane has a natural structure of a foliated manifold with a transverse holomorphic structure. We argue that the Fukaya category must be enlarged with such objects for the Homological Mirror Symmetry conjecture to be true.
We study aspects related to Kontsevich's homological mirror symmetry conjecture in the case of Calabi-Yau complete intersections in toric varieties. In a 1996 lecture at Rutgers University, Kontsevich indicated how his proposal implies that the groups of automorphisms of the two types of categories involved in the homological mirror symmetry conjecture should also be identified. Our main results provide an explicit geometric construction of the correspondence between the automorphisms of the two types of categories.
We describe an isomorphism of categories conjectured by Kontsevich. If $M$ and $\widetilde{M}$ are mirror pairs then the conjectural equivalence is between the derived category of coherent sheaves on $M$ and a suitable version of Fukaya's category of Lagrangian submanifolds on $\widetilde{M}.$ We prove this equivalence when $M$ is an elliptic curve and $\widetilde{M}$ is its dual curve, exhibiting the dictionary in detail.
We prove a version of homological mirror symmetry statement for toric Calabi-Yau $3$-orbifolds, thus extending arXiv:1604.06448 to the case of orbifolds under the mirror symmetry setting considered in arXiv:1604.07123. The B-model is the matrix factorization category for the toric Calabi-Yau $3$-orbifold with a superpotential; while the A-model is a topologically defined Fukaya-type category on its mirror curve.
We discuss some mathematical conjectures which have come out of the Dirichlet branes in superstring theory, focusing on the case of supersymmetric branes in Calabi-Yau compactification. This has led to the formulation of a notion of stability for objects in a derived category, contact with Kontsevich's homological mirror symmetry conjecture, and "physics proofs" for many of the subsequent conjectures based on it, such as the representation of Calabi-Yau monodromy by autoequivalences of the derived category.
In this paper we establish a version of homological mirror symmetry for punctured Riemann surfaces. Following a proposal of Kontsevich we model A-branes on a punctured surface $Σ$ via the topological Fukaya category. We prove that the topological Fukaya category of $Σ$ is equivalent to the category of matrix factorizations of the mirror LG model $(X,W)$. Along the way we establish new gluing results for the topological Fukaya category of punctured surfaces which might be of independent interest.
We consider autoequivalences of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a K3 surface. We prove that the image of the autoequivalences has index at most two in the group of the Hodge isometries of the Mukai lattice. Motivated by homological mirror symmetry we also consider the mirror counterpart, i.e. symplectic version of it. In the case of $ρ(X)=1$, we find an explicit formula which reproduces the number of Fourier-Mukai (FM) partners from the monodromy problem of the mirror K3 family. We present an explicit example in which a monodromy action does not come from an autoequivalence…
We study the structure of a modified Fukaya category ${\frak F}(X)$ associated with a K3 surface $X$, and prove that whenever $X$ is an elliptic K3 surface with a section, the derived category of $\fF(X)$ is equivalent to a subcategory of the derived category ${\bold D}(\hat X)$ of coherent sheaves on the mirror K3 surface $\hat X$.
Given an algebraic hypersurface $H=f^{-1}(0)$ in $(\mathbb{C}^*)^n$, homological mirror symmetry relates the wrapped Fukaya category of $H$ to the derived category of singularities of the mirror Landau-Ginzburg model. We propose an enriched version of this picture which also features the wrapped Fukaya category of the complement $(\mathbb{C}^*)^n\setminus H$ and the Fukaya-Seidel category of the Landau-Ginzburg model $((\mathbb{C}^*)^n,f)$. We illustrate our speculations on simple examples, and sketch a proof of homological mirror symmetry for higher-dimensional pairs of pants.
We propose a way of understanding homological mirror symmetry when a complex manifold is a smooth compact toric manifold. So far, in many example, the derived category $D^b(coh(X))$ of coherent sheaves on a toric manifold $X$ is compared with the Fukaya-Seidel category of the Milnor fiber of the corresponding Landau-Ginzburg potential. We instead consider the dual torus fibration $π:M \to B$ of the complement of the toric divisors in $X$, where $\bar{B}$ is the dual polytope of the toric manifold $X$. A natural formulation of homological mirror symmetry in this set-up is to define $Fuk(\bar{M}…
Given a smooth projective toric variety X, we construct an A-infinity category of Lagrangians with boundary on a level set of the Landau-Ginzburg mirror of X. We prove that this category is quasi-equivalent to the DG category of line bundles on X. This establishes part of the Homological Mirror Conjecture for toric varieties.
We prove the homological mirror conjecture for toric del Pezzo surfaces. In this case, the mirror object is a regular function on an algebraic torus. We show that the derived Fukaya category of this mirror coincides with the derived category of coherent sheaves on the original manifold.
We prove Kontsevich's homological mirror symmetry conjecture for certain mirror pairs arising from Batyrev-Borisov's `dual reflexive Gorenstein cones' construction. In particular we prove HMS for all Greene-Plesser mirror pairs (i.e., Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in quotients of weighted projective spaces). We also prove it for certain mirror Calabi-Yau complete intersections arising from Borisov's construction via dual nef partitions, and also for certain Calabi-Yau complete intersections which do not have a Calabi-Yau mirror, but instead are mirror to a Calabi-Yau subcategory of the derived cate…
We work in the setting of Calabi-Yau mirror symmetry. We establish conditions under which Kontsevich's homological mirror symmetry (which relates the derived Fukaya category to the derived category of coherent sheaves on the mirror) implies Hodge-theoretic mirror symmetry (which relates genus-zero Gromov-Witten invariants to period integrals on the mirror), following the work of Barannikov, Kontsevich and others. As an application, we explain in detail how to prove the classical mirror symmetry prediction for the number of rational curves in each degree on the quintic threefold, via the third-…
We describe the Fukaya-Seidel category of a Landau-Ginzburg model LG(2) for the semisimple adjoint orbit of sl(2,C). We prove that this category is equivalent to a full triangulated subcategory of the category of coherent sheaves on the second Hirzebruch surface. We show that no projective variety can be mirror to LG(2), and that this remains so after compactification.
The Cox construction presents a toric variety as a quotient of affine space by a torus. The category of coherent sheaves on the corresponding stack thus has an evident description as invariants in a quotient of the category of modules over a polynomial ring. Here we give the mirror to this description, and in particular, a clean new proof of mirror symmetry for smooth toric stacks.
We prove Homological Mirror Symmetry for a smooth d-dimensional Calabi-Yau hypersurface in projective space, for any d > 2 (for example, d = 3 is the quintic three-fold). The main techniques involved in the proof are: the construction of an immersed Lagrangian sphere in the `d-dimensional pair of pants'; the introduction of the `relative Fukaya category', and an understanding of its grading structure; a description of the behaviour of this category with respect to branched covers (via an `orbifold' Fukaya category); a Morse-Bott model for the relative Fukaya category that allows one to make ex…
We construct an $A_{\infty}$-structure on the Ext-groups of hermitian holomorphic vector bundles on a compact complex manifold. We propose a generalization of the homological mirror conjecture due to Kontsevich. Namely, we conjecture that for mirror dual Calabi-Yau manifolds $M$ and $X$ there exists an $A_{\infty}$-functor from Fukaya's symplectic $A_{\infty}$-category of $M$ to the $A_{\infty}$-derived category of $X$ which is a homotopy equivalence on morphisms. We verify the part of this conjecture concering triple products for elliptic curves.
We prove a homological mirror symmetry equivalence between an $A$-brane category for the pair of pants, computed as a wrapped microlocal sheaf category, and a $B$-brane category for a mirror LG model, understood as a category of matrix factorizations. The equivalence improves upon prior results in two ways: it intertwines evident affine Weyl group symmetries on both sides, and it exhibits the relation of wrapped microlocal sheaves along different types of Lagrangian skeleta for the same hypersurface. The equivalence proceeds through the construction of a combinatorial realization of the $A$-mo…
Let $G$ be the automorphism group of an extension $F|k$ of algebraically closed fields of characteristic zero and of transcendence degree $n$, $1\le n\le\infty$. In this paper we (i) construct some maximal closed non-open subgroups $G_v$, and some (all, in the case of countable transcendence degree) maximal open proper subgroups of $G$; (ii) describe, in the case of countable transcendence degree, the automorphism subgroups over the intermediate subfields (a question of Krull, \cite[\S4, question 3b)]{krull}); (iii) construct, in the case $n=\infty$, a fully faithful subfunctor $(-)_v$ of the …
Katzarkov has proposed a generalization of Kontsevich's mirror symmetry conjecture, covering some varieties of general type. We prove a version of this conjecture in the simplest example, relating the Fukaya category of a genus two curve to the category of Landau-Ginzburg branes on a certain singular rational surface.
We establish a $\mathbb{Z}[[t_1,\ldots, t_n]]$-linear derived equivalence between the relative Fukaya category of the 2-torus with $n$ distinct marked points and the derived category of perfect complexes on the $n$-Tate curve. Specialising to $t_1= \ldots =t_n=0$ gives a $\mathbb{Z}$-linear derived equivalence between the Fukaya category of the $n$-punctured torus and the derived category of perfect complexes on the standard (Néron) $n$-gon. We prove that this equivalence extends to a $\mathbb{Z}$-linear derived equivalence between the wrapped Fukaya category of the $n$-punctured torus and the…
Using only the Fukaya category and the monodromy around large complex structure, we reconstruct the mirror map in the case of a symplectic torus. This realizes an idea described by Paul Seidel.
Given a smooth 3-fold $Y$, a line bundle $L \to Y$, and a section $s$ of $L$ such that the vanishing locus of $s$ is a normal crossings surface $X$ with graph-like singular locus, we present a way to reconstruct the singularity category of $X$ as a homotopy limit of several copies of the category of matrix factorizations of $xyz : \mathbb{A}^{3} \to \mathbb{A}^{1}$ (the mirror to the Fukaya category of the pair of pants). This extends our previous result for the case where $L$ is trivialized. The key technique is the classification of non-two-periodic autoequivalences of the category of matrix…
This paper gives a new way of constructing Landau-Ginzburg mirrors using deformation theory of Lagrangian immersions motivated by the works of Seidel, Strominger-Yau-Zaslow and Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono. Moreover we construct a canonical functor from the Fukaya category to the mirror category of matrix factorizations. This functor derives homological mirror symmetry under some explicit assumptions. As an application, the construction is applied to spheres with three orbifold points to produce their quantum-corrected mirrors and derive homological mirror symmetry. Furthermore we discover an enumerativ…
We study versions of homological mirror symmetry for hypersurface cusp singularities and the three hypersurface simple elliptic singularities. We show that the Milnor fibres of each of these carries a distinguished Lefschetz fibration; its derived directed Fukaya category is equivalent to the derived category of coherent sheaves on a smooth rational surface $Y_{p,q,r}$. By using localization techniques on both sides, we get an isomorphism between the derived wrapped Fukaya category of the Milnor fibre and the derived category of coherent sheaves on a quasi-projective surface given by deleting …
The Fukaya category of a punctured surface can be reconstructed from a pair-of-pants decomposition using a formal construction that attaches a category to a trivalent graph. We extend this formal construction to include a choice of line field on the surface, this requires a certain decoration on the graph. On the mirror side we show that this leads to a kind of twisted derived category which has not been widely studied. Mirror symmetry predicts that our category should be an invariant of decorated graphs and we prove that this is indeed the case, using only B-model methods. We also give B-mode…
We prove that the derived Fukaya category of the Lefschetz fibration defined by a Brieskorn-Pham polynomial is equivalent to the triangulated category of singularities associated with the same polynomial together with a grading by an abelian group of rank one. Symplectic Picard-Lefschetz theory developed by Seidel is an essential ingredient of the proof.
We consider the suspension operation on Lefschetz fibrations, which takes p(x) to p(x)-y^2. This leaves the Fukaya category of the fibration invariant, and changes the category of the fibre (or more precisely, the subcategory consisting of a basis of vanishing cycles) in a specific way. As an application, we prove part of Homological Mirror Symmetry for the total spaces of canonical bundles over toric del Pezzo surfaces.
We prove that the wrapped Fukaya category of a punctured sphere ($S^2$ with an arbitrary number of points removed) is equivalent to the triangulated category of singularities of a mirror Landau-Ginzburg model, proving one side of the homological mirror symmetry conjecture in this case. By investigating fractional gradings on these categories, we conclude that cyclic covers on the symplectic side are mirror to orbifold quotients of the Landau-Ginzburg model.
Given a ribbon graph $Γ$ with some extra structure, we define, using constructible sheaves, a dg category $CPM(Γ)$ meant to model the Fukaya category of a Riemann surface in the cell of Teichmüller space described by $Γ.$ When $Γ$ is appropriately decorated and admits a combinatorial "torus fibration with section," we construct from $Γ$ a one-dimensional algebraic stack $\widetilde{X}_Γ$ with toric components. We prove that our model is equivalent to $Perf(\widetilde{X}_Γ)$, the dg category of perfect complexes on $\widetilde{X}_Γ$.
This paper explores a refinement of homological mirror symmetry which relates exact symplectic topology to arithmetic algebraic geometry. We establish a derived equivalence of the Fukaya category of the 2-torus, relative to a basepoint, with the category of perfect complexes of coherent sheaves on the Tate curve over the "formal disc" Spec Z[[q]]. It specializes to a derived equivalence, over Z, of the Fukaya category of the punctured torus with perfect complexes on the curve y^2+xy=x^3 over Spec Z, the central fibre of the Tate curve; and, over the "punctured disc" Spec Z((q)), to an integral…
For certain K3 surfaces, there are two constructions of mirror symmetry that are very different. The first, known as BHK mirror symmetry, comes from the Landau-Ginzburg model for the K3 surface; the other, known as LPK3 mirror symmetry, is based on a lattice polarization of the K3 surface in the sense of Dolgachev's definition. There is a large class of K3 surfaces for which both versions of mirror symmetry apply. In this class we consider the K3 surfaces admitting a certain purely nonsymplectic automorphism of order 4, 8, or 12, and we complete the proof that these two formulations of mirror …
We give a full exceptional collection in the triangulated category of singularities in the sense of Orlov for a hypersurface singularity of Fermat type, and discuss its relation with homological mirror symmetry for simple elliptic hypersurface singularities.
We study homological mirror symmetry for toric varieties, exploring the relationship between various Fukaya-Seidel categories which have been employed for constructing the mirror to a toric variety. In particular, we realize tropical Lagrangian sections as objects of a partially wrapped category and construct a Lagrangian correspondence mirror to the inclusion of a toric divisor. As a corollary, we prove that tropical sections generate the Fukaya-Seidel category, completing a Floer-theoretic proof of homological mirror symmetry for projective toric varieties. In the course of the proof, we dev…
We prove a structural result in mirror symmetry for projective Calabi--Yau (CY) manifolds. Let $X$ be a connected symplectic CY manifold, whose Fukaya category $\mathcal{F}(X)$ is defined over some suitable Novikov field $\mathbb{K}$; its mirror is assumed to be some smooth projective scheme $Y$ over $\mathbb{K}$ with `maximally unipotent monodromy'. Suppose that some split-generating subcategory of (a $\mathsf{dg}$ enhancement of) $D^bCoh( Y)$ embeds into $\mathcal{F}(X)$: we call this hypothesis `core homological mirror symmetry'. We prove that the embedding extends to an equivalence of cate…
We study mirror symmetry of complete intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds which have birational automorphisms of infinite order. We observe that movable cones in birational geometry are transformed, under mirror symmetry, to the monodromy nilpotent cones which are naturally glued together.
Given a punctured Riemann surface with a pair-of-pants decomposition, we compute its wrapped Fukaya category in a suitable model by reconstructing it from those of various pairs of pants. The pieces are glued together in the sense that the restrictions of the wrapped Floer complexes from two adjacent pairs of pants to their adjoining cylindrical piece agree. The $A_\infty$-structures are given by those in the pairs of pants. The category of singularities of the mirror Landau-Ginzburg model can also be constructed in the same way from local affine pieces that are mirrors of the pairs of pants.
Mirror symmetry for a toric variety involves Laurent polynomials whose symplectic topology is related to the algebraic geometry of the toric variety. We show that there is a monodromy action on the monomially admissible Fukaya-Seidel categories of these Laurent polynomials as the arguments of their coefficients vary that corresponds under homological mirror symmetry to tensoring by a line bundle naturally associated to the monomials whose coefficients are rotated. In the process, we introduce the monomially admissible Fukaya-Seidel category as a new interpretation of the Fukaya-Seidel category…
Given a two-variable invertible polynomial, we show that its category of maximally-graded matrix factorisations is quasi-equivalent to the Fukaya-Seidel category of its Berglund-Hübsch transpose. This was previously shown for Brieskorn-Pham and $D$-type singularities by Futaki-Ueda. The proof involves explicit construction of a tilting object on the B-side, and comparison with a specific basis of Lefschetz thimbles on the A-side.
We formulate a constructive theory of noncommutative Landau-Ginzburg models mirror to symplectic manifolds based on Lagrangian Floer theory. The construction comes with a natural functor from the Fukaya category to the category of matrix factorizations of the constructed Landau-Ginzburg model. As applications, it is applied to elliptic orbifolds, punctured Riemann surfaces and certain non-compact Calabi-Yau threefolds to construct their mirrors and functors. In particular it recovers and strengthens several interesting results of Etingof-Ginzburg, Bocklandt and Smith, and gives a unified under…
We study homological mirror symmetry for Del Pezzo surfaces and their mirror Landau-Ginzburg models. In particular, we show that the derived category of coherent sheaves on a Del Pezzo surface X_k obtained by blowing up CP^2 at k points is equivalent to the derived category of vanishing cycles of a certain elliptic fibration W_k:M_k\to\C with k+3 singular fibers, equipped with a suitable symplectic form. Moreover, we also show that this mirror correspondence between derived categories can be extended to noncommutative deformations of X_k, and give an explicit correspondence between the deforma…
We use Lagrangian torus fibrations on the mirror $X$ of a toric Calabi-Yau threefold $\check X$ to construct Lagrangian sections and various Lagrangian spheres on $X$. We then propose an explicit correspondence between the sections and line bundles on $\check X$ and between spheres and sheaves supported on the toric divisors of $\check X$. We conjecture that these correspondences induce an embedding of the relevant derived Fukaya category of $X$ inside the derived category of coherent sheaves on $\check X$.
Using Auroux's description of Fukaya categories of symmetric products of punctured surfaces, we compute the partially wrapped Fukaya category of the complement of $k+1$ generic hyperplanes in $\mathbb{CP}^n$, for $k \geq n$, with respect to certain stops in terms of the endomorphism algebra of a generating set of objects. The stops are chosen so that the resulting algebra is formal. In the case of the complement of $(n+2)$-generic hyperplanes in $\mathbb{C}P^n$ ($n$-dimensional pair-of-pants), we show that our partial wrapped Fukaya category is equivalent to a certain categorical resolution of…
