We describe polar homology groups for complex manifolds. The polar k-chains are subvarieties of complex dimension k with meromorphic forms on them, while the boundary operator is defined by taking the polar divisor and the Poincare residue on it. The polar homology groups may be regarded as holomorphic analogues of the homology groups in topology. We also describe the polar homology groups for quasi-projective one-dimensional varieties (affine curves). These groups obey the Mayer--Vietoris property. A complex counterpart of the Gauss linking number of two curves in a three-fold and various gauge-theoretic aspects of the above correspondence are also discussed.
We show that a $2k$-current $T$ on a complex manifold is a real holomorphic $k$-chain if and only if $T$ is locally real rectifiable, $d$-closed and has $\mathcal{H}^{2k}$-locally finite support. This result is applied to study homology classes represented by algebraic cycles.
We show that the chow group of $p$-cycles with rational coefficients are isomorphic to the corresponding rational homology groups for smooth complex projective varieties carrying a holomorphic vector field with an isolated zero locus. As applications, we obtain Chow groups and Lawson homology groups with rational coefficients and verify the Friedlander-Mazur conjecture and the Generalized Hodge conjecture for those varieties.
For complex projective manifolds we introduce polar homology groups, which are holomorphic analogues of the homology groups in topology. The polar k-chains are subvarieties of complex dimension k with meromorphic forms on them, while the boundary operator is defined by taking the polar divisor and the Poincare residue on it.
Given a holomorphic vector bundle $\cale$ on a connected compact complex manifold X, [FLS] construct a $\compl$-linear functional $I_{\cale}$ on $\hh{2n}{\compl}$. This is done by constructing a linear functional on the 0-th completed Hochschild homology $\choch{0}{(\dif(\cale))}$ of the sheaf of holomorphic differential operators on $\cale$ using topological quantum mechanics. They show that this functional is $\int_X$ if $\cale$ has non zero Euler characteristic. They conjecture that this functional is $\int_X$ for all $\cale$. A subsequent work [Ram] by the author proved that the linear fun…
We propose a version of the Hodge conjecture in Bott-Chern cohomology and using results from characterizing real holomorphic chains by real rectifiable currents to provide a proof for this question. We define a Bott-Chern differential cohomology and use atomic section theory of Harvey and Lawson to construct refined Bott-Chern classes for holomorphic vector bundles in this differential cohomology. These refined Bott-Chern classes transform naturally to standard Chern classes, Bott-Chern classes and Cheeger-Simons' refined Chern classes.
Given a symplectic three-fold $(M,ω)$ we show that for a generic almost complex structure $J$ which is compatible with $ω$, there are finitely many $J$-holomorphic curves in $M$ of any genus $g\geq 0$ representing a homology class $β$ in $\H_2(M,\Z)$ with $c_1(M).β=0$, provided that the divisibility of $β$ is at most 4 (i.e. if $β=nα$ with $α\in H_2(M,\Z)$ and $n\in \Z$ then $n\leq 4$). Moreover, each such curve is embedded and 4-rigid.
We give a brief survey on the entropy of holomorphic self maps $f$ of compact Kähler manifolds, and rational dominating self maps $f$ of smooth projective varieties. We emphasize the connection between the entropy and the spectral radii of the induced action of $f$ on the homology of the compact manifold. The main conjecture for the rational maps states that modulo birational isomorphism all various notions of entropy and the spectral radii are equal.
We construct quasi-projective moduli spaces of $K$-general lattice polarized irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds. Moreover, we study their Baily--Borel compactification and investigate a relation between one-dimensional boundary components and equivalence classes of rational Lagrangian fibrations defined on mirror manifolds.
We generalize Nikulin's and Dolgachev's lattice-theoretical mirror symmetry for K3 surfaces to lattice polarized higher dimensional irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds. In the case of fourfolds of $K3^{\left[2\right]}-$type we then describe mirror families of polarized fourfolds and we give an example with mirror non-symplectic involutions.
We first present the construction of the moduli space of real pseudo-holomorphic curves in a given real symplectic manifold. Then, following the approach of Gromov and Witten, we construct invariants under deformation of real rational symplectic 4-manifolds. These invariants provide lower bounds for the number of real rational $J$-holomorphic curves in a given homology class passing through a given real configuration of points.
We present an algorithm for the computation of the topological type of a real compact Riemann surface associated to an algebraic curve, i.e., its genus and the properties of the set of fixed points of the anti-holomorphic involution $τ$, namely, the number of its connected components, and whether this set divides the surface into one or two connected components. This is achieved by transforming an arbitrary canonical homology basis to a homology basis where the $\mathcal{A}$-cycles are invariant under the anti-holomorphic involution $τ$.
In an earlier paper (math.SG/0101206), we introduced Floer homology theories associated to closed, oriented three-manifolds Y and SpinC structures. In the present paper, we give calculations and study the properties of these invariants. The calculations suggest a conjectured relationship with Seiberg-Witten theory. The properties include a relationship between the Euler characteristics of these theories and Turaev's torsion, a relationship with the minimal genus problem (Thurston norm), and surgery exact sequences. We also include some applications of these techniques to three-manifold topolog…
For a smooth family $V \to U$ of polarized manifolds with semi-ample canonical sheaves, we show the following result: any entire curve must be contained in the fibers of the classifying map from the base space $U$ to the moduli space. This settles the Relative Isotriviality Conjecture, \cite[Conjecture 1.5]{DLSZ}.
Suppose M is a complex manifold of dimension $n+1$ and K is a hypersurface in M. By Poincaré duality we define a residue morphism $res:H^{k+1}(M\setminus K)\longrightarrow H_{2n-k}(K)$ which generalizes the classical Leray residue morphism to cohomology for smooth K. We assume that K has isolated quasihomogeneous singularities. Suppose $ω$ is a holomorphic form of the type $(n+1,0)$ with the first order pole on K. The purpose of this note is to give a short, self contained proof of a criterion which tells us when the residue of $ω$ lifts to the intersection homology of K.
Moduli spaces of polarised (with fixed polarisation type) irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds deformation equivalent to Hilbert schemes of points on $K3$ surfaces are not connected in general and A. Apostolov counted the number of their components. We extend Apostolov's results to the case of manifolds deformation equivalent to generalised Kummer varieties.
Let F be a polarized irreducible holomorphic symplectic fourfold, deformation equivalent to the Hilbert scheme parametrizing length-two zero-dimensional subschemes of a K3 surface. The homology group H^2(F,Z) is equipped with an integral symmetric nondegenerate form, the Beauville form. We give precise conjectures for the structure of the cone of effective curves - and by duality - the cone of ample divisors. Formally they are completely analogous to the results known for K3 surfaces, and they are expressed entirely in terms of the integers represented by the Beauville form restricted to Pic(F…
We prove an analogue of the de Rham theorem for polar homology; that the polar homology $HP_q(X)$ of a smooth projective variety $X$ is isomorphic to its $H^{n,n-q}$ Dolbeault cohomology group. This analogue can be regarded as a geometric complexification where arbitrary (sub)manifolds are replaced by complex (sub)manifolds and de Rham's operator $d$ is replaced by Dolbeault's $\bar\partial$.
In this paper we study the topology of the spaces Hol(M,P{n},k) of (basepoint preserving) holomorphic maps of a given degree k from a Riemann surface M of genus g>0 into the n-th complex projective space P{n}, n>0. Using symmetric products of the surface as well as the geometry of the associated Abel-Jacobi maps, we construct an explicit topological compactification of Hol(M,P{n},k) which allow us to construct spectral sequences with known E_1-terms that can be used to determine the homology groups of Hol(M,P{n},k). Complete calculations are given for the elliptic case (g=1). Complete rational…
Let $p:Σ'\toΣ$ be a finite Galois cover, possibly branched, with Galois group $G$. We are interested in the structure of the cohomology of $Σ'$ as a module over $G$. We treat the cases of branched and unbranched covers separately. In the case of branched covers, we give a complete classification of possible module structures of $H_1(Σ',\bC)$. In the unbranched case, we algebro-geometrically realize the representation of $G$ on holomorphic 1-forms on $Σ'$ as functions on unions of $G$-torsors. We also explicitly realize these representations for certain branched covers of hyperelliptic curves. …
We construct invariants under deformation of real symplectic 4-manifolds. These invariants are obtained by counting three different kinds of real rational J-holomorphic curves which realize a given homology class and pass through a given real configuration of (the appropriate number of) points. These curves are cuspidal curves, reducible curves and curves with a prescribed tangent line at some real point of the configuration. They are counted with respect to some sign defined by the parity of their number of isolated real double points and in the case of reducible curves, with respect to some …
Associated with a prime homology class $β\in P_2(X,\Z)$ (i.e. $β=pα$ and $α\in H_2(X,\Z)$ imply $p=1$ or $p$ is an odd prime) on a symplectic three-manifold with vanishing first Chern class, we count the embedded perturbed pseudo-holomorphic curves in $X$ of a fixed genus $g$ to obtain certain integer valued invariants analogous to Gromov-Witten invariants of $X$.
We seek to characterize homology classes of Lagrangian projective spaces embedded in irreducible holomorphic-symplectic manifolds, up to the action of the monodromy group. This paper addresses the case of manifolds deformation-equivalent to the Hilbert scheme of length-three subschemes of a K3 surface. The class of the projective space in the cohomology ring has prescribed intersection properties, which translate into Diophantine equations. Possible homology classes correspond to integral points on an explicit elliptic curve; our proof entails showing that the only such point is two-torsion.
For an integer n>2 we define a polylogarithm, which is a holomorphic function on the universal abelian cover of C-{0,1} defined modulo (2 pi i)^n/(n-1)!. We use the formal properties of its functional relations to define groups lifting Goncharov's Bloch groups of a field F, and show that they fit into a complex lifting Goncharov's Bloch complex. When F=C we show that the imaginary part (when n is even) or real part (when n is odd) of the holomorphic polylogarithm agrees with a real valued polylogarithm on the first cohomology group of the lifted Bloch complex. When n=2, this group is Neumann's…
Given a compact complex $n$-fold $X$ satisfying the $\partial\bar\partial$-lemma and supposed to have a trivial canonical bundle $K_X$ and to admit a balanced (=semi-Kähler) Hermitian metric $ω$, we introduce the concept of deformations of $X$ that are {\bf co-polarised} by the balanced class $[ω^{n-1}]\in H^{n-1,\,n-1}(X,\,\C)\subset H^{2n-2}(X,\,\C)$ and show that the resulting theory of balanced co-polarised deformations is a natural extension of the classical theory of Kähler polarised deformations in the context of Calabi-Yau or even holomorphic symplectic compact complex manifolds. The c…
As a result of our study of the hyperbolicity of the moduli space of polarized manifold, we give a general big Picard theorem for a holomorphic curve on a log-smooth pair $(X,D)$ such that $W=X\setminus D$ admits a Finsler pseudometric that is strongly negatively curved when pulled back to the curve. We show, by some refinements of the classical Viehweg-Zuo construction, that this latter condition holds for the base space $W$, if nonsingular, of any algebraic family of polarized complex projective manifolds with semi-ample canonical bundles whose induced moduli map $ϕ$ to the moduli space of s…
In this article, we propose a way of seeing the noncommutative tori in the category of noncommutative motives. As an algebra, the noncommutative torus is lack the smoothness property required to define a noncomutative motive. Thus, instead of working with the algebra, we work with the category of holomorphic bundles. It is known that these are related to the coherent sheaves of an elliptic curve. We describe the cyclic homology of the category of holomorphic bundle on a noncommutative torus. We then introduce a notion of (weak) t-structure in dg categories. By applying the t-structure to a non…
Consider a smooth projective family of complex polarized manifolds with semi-ample canonical sheaf over a quasi-projective manifold $V$. When the associated moduli map $V\to P_h$ from the base to coarse moduli space is quasi-finite, we prove that the generalized big Picard theorem holds for the base manifold $V$: for any projective compactification $Y$ of $V$, any holomorphic map $f:Δ-\{0\}\to V$ from the punctured unit disk to $V$ extends to a holomorphic map of the unit disk $Δ$ into $Y$. This result generalizes our previous work on the Brody hyperbolicity of $V$ (i.e. there are no entire cu…
