It is proved that an indecomposable Harish-Chandra module over the Virasoro algebra must be (i) a uniformly bounded module, or (ii) a module in Category $\cal O$, or (iii) a module in Category ${\cal O}^-$, or (iv) a module which contains the trivial module as one of its composition factors.
In the context of Conformal Field Theory (CFT), many results can be obtained from the representation theory of the Virasoro algebra. While the interest in Logarithmic CFTs has been growing recently, the Virasoro representations corresponding to these quantum field theories remain dauntingly complicated, thus hindering our understanding of various critical phenomena. We extend in this paper the construction of Read and Saleur (2007), and uncover a deep relationship between the Virasoro algebra and a finite-dimensional algebra characterizing the properties of two-dimensional statistical models, …
The subject of our study is the Kazhdan-Lusztig (KL) equivalence in the context of a one-parameter family of logarithmic CFTs based on Virasoro symmetry with the (1,p) central charge. All finite-dimensional indecomposable modules of the KL-dual quantum group - the "full" Lusztig quantum sl(2) at the root of unity - are explicitly described. These are exhausted by projective modules and four series of modules that have a functorial correspondence with any quotient or a submodule of Feigin-Fuchs modules over the Virasoro algebra. Our main result includes calculation of tensor products of any pai…
We find that a compatible graded left-symmetric algebra structure on the Witt algebra induces an indecomposable module of the Witt algebra with 1-dimensional weight spaces by its left multiplication operators. From the classification of such modules of the Witt algebra, the compatible graded left-symmetric algebra structures on the Witt algebra are classified. All of them are simple and they include the examples given by Chapoton and Kupershmidt. Furthermore, we classify the central extensions of these graded left-symmetric algebras which give the compatible graded left-symmetric algebra struc…
We show that subsingular vectors exist in Verma modules over W(2,2), and present a subquotient structure of these modules. We prove conditions for irreducibility of a tensor product of intermediate series module with the highest weight module. Relations to intertwining operators over vertex operator algebra associated to W(2,2) is discussed. Also, we study a tensor product of intermediate series and highest weight module over the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra, and present series of irreducible modules with infinite-dimensional weight spaces.
This Letter initiates the study of what we call non-chiral staggered Virasoro modules, indecomposable modules on which two copies of the Virasoro algebra act with the two zero-modes acting non-semisimply. This is motivated by the "puzzle" recently reported in arXiv:1110.1327 [math-ph] involving a non-standard measured value, meaning that the value is not familiar from chiral studies, for the "b-parameter" (logarithmic coupling) of a c=0 bulk conformal field theory. Here, an explanation is proposed by introducing a natural family of bulk modules and showing that the only consistent, non-standar…
A class of indecomposable representations of U_q(sl_n) is considered for q an even root of unity (q^h = -1) exhibiting a similar structure as (height h) indecomposable lowest weight Kac-Moody modules associated with a chiral conformal field theory. In particular, U_q(sl_n) counterparts of the Bernard-Felder BRS operators are constructed for n=2,3. For n=2 a pair of dual d_2(h) = h dimensional U_q(sl_2) modules gives rise to a 2h-dimensional indecomposable representation including those studied earlier in the context of tensor product expansions of irreducible representations. For n=3 the inter…
We present the list of irreducible (generalized) highest weight modules over the Virasoro algebra and N=1 super-Virasoro algebras obtained as factor-modules of (generalized) Verma modules. We present also the character formulae of all these modules and single out the unitary irreducible ones. Most formulas are valid for the three algebras under consideration, the different cases being distinguished by two parameters. This is a slightly extended version of an Encyclopedia entry.
We study a family of fermionic oscillator representations of the Virasoro algebra via 2-point-local Virasoro fields on the Fock space $\mathit{F^{\otimes \frac{1}{2}}}$ of a neutral (real) fermion. We obtain the decomposition of $\mathit{F^{\otimes \frac{1}{2}}}$ as a direct sum of irreducible highest weight Virasoro modules with central charge $c=1$. As a corollary we obtain the decomposition of the irreducible highest weight Virasoro modules with central charge $c=\frac{1}{2}$ into irreducible highest weight Virasoro modules with central charge $c=1$. As an application we show how positive s…
Generalized Virasoro algebras (defined as the universal central extension of some generalized Witt algebras) and super-Virasoro algebras and modules of the intermediate series are studied and discussed.
In this paper, we provide a uniform method to thoroughly classify all Harish-Chandra modules over some Lie algebras related to the Virasoro algebras. We first classify such modules over the Lie algebra $W(\varrho)[s]$ for $s=0,\frac12$. With this result and method, we can also do such works for some Lie algebras and superconformal algebras related to the Virasoro algebra, including the several kinds of Schrödinger-Virasoro Lie algebras, which are open up to now.
This paper is a continuation of arXiv:1405.1707. We present certain new applications and generalizations of the free field realization of the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra ${\mathcal H}$ at level zero. We find explicit formulas for singular vectors in certain Verma modules. A free field realization of self-dual modules for ${\mathcal H}$ is presented by combining a bosonic construction of Whittaker modules from arXiv:1409.5354 with a construction of logarithmic modules for vertex algebras. As an application, we prove that there exists a non-split self-extension of irreducible self-dual m…
We use Block's results to classify irreducible modules over the differential operator algebra $\mathbb{C}[t,t^{-1}, \frac d{dt}]$. From this classification and using "the twisting technique" we construct a lot of new irreducible modules over the Virasoro algebra. These new irreducible Virasoro modules are generally not weight modules. We determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for two such irreducible Virasoro modules to be isomorphic. Many examples for such irreducible Virasoro modules with different features are provided at the end of the paper. In particular the class of irreducib…
It is obtained that an irreducible weight module with finite weight multiplicities over a higher rank Virasoro or super-Virasoro algebra is either a module of the intermediate series, or a so-called finitely-dense module.
It is proved that uniformly bounded simple modules over higher rank super-Virasoro algebras are modules of the intermediate series, and that simple modules with finite dimensional weight spaces are either modules of the intermediate series or generalized highest weight modules.
We give diagrammatic formulae for morphisms between indecomposable representations of $\bar{U}_{q}(\mathfrak{sl}_{2})$ appearing in the decomposition of $\mathbb{C}^{\otimes 2n}$, including projections and second endomorphisms on projective indecomposable representations.
Let H be a finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebra of rank one over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. In this paper we describe all annihilator ideals of indecomposable H-modules by generators. In particular, we give the classification of all ideals of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebra of rank one of nilpotent type over Klein 4-group.
By elementary and direct calculations the vanishing of the (algebraic) second Lie algebra cohomology of the Witt and the Virasoro algebra with values in the adjoint module is shown. This yields infinitesimal and formal rigidity or these algebras. The first (and up to now only) proof of this important result was given 1989 by Fialowski in an unpublished note. It is based on cumbersome calculations. Compared to the original proof the presented one is quite elegant and considerably simpler.
The concept of $λ$-differential operators is a natural generalization of differential operators and difference operators. In this paper, we determine the $λ$-differential Lie algebraic structure on the Witt algebra and the Virasoro algebra for invertible $λ$. Then we consider several families of modules over the Virasoro algebra with explicit module actions and determine the $λ$-differential module structures on them.
We show that the support of an irreducible weight module over the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra, which has an infinite dimensional weight space, coincides with the weight lattice and that all nontrivial weight spaces of such a module are infinite dimensional. As a corollary, we obtain that every irreducible weight module over the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra, having a nontrivial finite dimensional weight space, is a Harish-Chandra module (and hence is either an irreducible highest or lowest weight module or an irreducible module from the intermediate series
In this paper, we consider the classification of irreducible ${\bf Z}$- and ${\bf Z}^2$-graded modules with finite dimensional homogeneous subspaces over the Virasoro-like algebra. We first prove that such a module is a uniformly bounded module or a generalized highest weight module. Then we determine all generalized highest weight irreducible modules. As a consequence, we also determine all the modules with nonzero center. Finally, we prove that there does not exist any nontrivial ${\bf Z}$-graded modules of intermediate series.
Lie conformal algebras $\mathcal{W}(a,b)$ are the semi-direct sums of Virasoro Lie conformal algebra and its nontrivial conformal modules of rank one. In this paper, we first give a complete classification of all finite nontrivial irreducible conformal modules of $\mathcal{W}(a,b)$. It is shown that all such modules are of rank one. Moreover, with a similar method, all finite nontrivial irreducible conformal modules of Schrödinger-Virasoro type Lie conformal algebras $TSV(a,b)$ and $TSV(c)$ are characterized.
In this paper, we complete the classification of the {\bf Z}-graded modules of the intermediate series over the $q$-analog Virasoro-like algebra $L$. We first construct four classes of irreducible {\bf Z}-graded $L$-modules of the intermediate series. Then we prove that any {\bf Z}-graded $L$-modules of the intermediate series must be the direct sum of some trivial $L$-modules or one of the modules constructed by us.
Let $\mathbb{F}$ be a field of characteristic 0, $G$ an additive subgroup of $\mathbb{F}$, $α\in \mathbb{F}$ satisfying $α\notin G, 2α\in G$. We define a class of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras which are called generalized Schrödinger-Virasoro algebras and use $\mathfrak{gsv}[G,α]$ to denote the one corresponding to $G$ and $α$. In this paper the automorphism group and irreducibility of Verma modules for $\mathfrak{gsv}[G,α]$ are completely determined.
We describe the structure of the irreducible highest weight modules for the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro Lie algebra at level zero. We prove that such a module is either isomorphic to a Verma module or to a quotient of two Verma modules.
In this paper we study the tensor category structure of the module category of the restricted quantum enveloping algebra associated to $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. Indecomposable decomposition of all tensor products of modules over this algebra is completely determined in explicit formulas. As a by-product, we show that the module category of the restricted quantum enveloping algebra associated to $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ is not a braided tensor category.
We first determine the automorphism group of the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra $V_{\mathcal{L}}(\ell_{123},0)$.Then, for any integer $t>1$, we introduce a new Lie algebra $\mathcal{L}_{t}$, and show that $σ_{t}$-twisted $V_{\mathcal{L}}(\ell_{123},0)$($\ell_{2}=0$)-modules are in one-to-one correspondence with restricted $\mathcal{L}_{t}$-modules of level $\ell_{13}$, where $σ_{t}$ is an order $t$ automorphism of $V_{\mathcal{L}}(\ell_{123},0)$. At the end, we give a complete list of irreducible $σ_{t}$-twisted $V_{\mathcal{L}}(\ell_{123},0)$($\ell_{2}=0$)-modules.
In this paper, we study a new kind of vertex operator algebra related to the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra, which we call the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra, and its modules. Specifically, we present some results concerning the relationship between the restricted module categories of twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebras of rank one and rank two and several different kinds of module categories of their corresponding vertex algebras. We also study fully the structures of the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra, give a characterization of it as a tensor …
For any additive subgroup $G$ of an arbitrary field $F$ of characteristic zero, there corresponds a generalized Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra $L[G]$. Given a total order of $G$ compatible with its group structure, and any $h,h_I,c,c_I,c_{LI}\in F$, a Verma module $M(h,h_I,c,c_I,c_{LI})$ over $L[G]$ is defined. In the this note, the irreducibility of Verma modules $M(h,h_I,c,c_I,c_{LI})$ is completely determined.
After shortly recalling the construction of the Khovanov-Kuperberg algebras, we give a characterisation of indecomposable web-modules. It says that a web-module is indecomposable if and only if one can deduce it directly from the Kuperberg bracket (via a Schur lemma argument). The proofs relies on the construction of idempotents given by explicit foams. These foams are encoded by combinatorial data called red graphs. The key point is to show that when, for a web $w$ the Schur lemma does not apply, one can find an appropriate red graph for $w$.
Let $\mathcal{F}_{25}$ be the family of irreducible highest weight modules for the Virasoro algebra of central charge $25$ which are not isomorphic to Verma modules. Let $L(25,0)$ be the Virasoro vertex operator algebra of central charge 25. We prove that the fusion rules for the $L(25,0)$-modules in $\mathcal{F}_{25}$ are in correspondence with the tensor rules for the irreducible finite dimensional representations of $sl(2, \mathbb{C})$, extending the known correspondence between modules for the Virasoro algebras of dual central charges 1 and 25.
We recall a construction of Mackaay, Pan and Tubbenhauer of the algebras $K^ε$ which allow to understand the $sl_3$ homology for links in a local way (i.e. for tangles). Then, by studying the combinatorics of the Kuperberg bracket, we give a large family of non-elliptic webs whose associated projective $K^ε$-modules are indecomposable.
This paper studies restricted modules of gap-$p$ Virasoro algebra $Ł$ and their intrinsic connection to twisted modules of certain vertex algebras. We first establish an equivalence between the category of restricted $Ł$-modules of level $\el$ and the category of twisted modules of vertex algebra $V_{\mathcal{N}_{p}}(\el,0)$, where $\mathcal{N}_{p}$ is a new Lie algebra, $\el:=(\ell_{0},0,\cdots,0)\in\C^{\halfp+1}$, $\ell_{0}\in\C$ is the action of the Virasoro center. Then we focus on the construction and classification of simple restricted $Ł$-modules of level $\el$. More explicitly, we give…
The loop super-Virasoro conformal superalgebra $\mathfrak{cls}$ associated with the loop super-Virasoro algebra is constructed in the present paper. The conformal superderivation algebra of $\mathfrak{cls}$ is completely determined, which is shown to consist of inner superderivations. And nontrivial free and free $\mathbb{Z}$-graded $\mathfrak{cls}$-modules of rank two are classified. We also give a classification of irreducible free $\mathfrak{cls}$-modules of rank two and all irreducible submodules of each free $\mathbb{Z}$-graded $\mathfrak{cls}$-module of rank two.
We construct integral forms containing the conformal vector $ω$ in certain tensor powers of the Virasoro vertex operator algebra $L(\frac{1}{2},0)$, and we construct integral forms in certain modules for these algebras. When a triple of modules for a tensor power of $L(\frac{1}{2},0)$ have integral forms, we classify which intertwining operators among these modules respect the integral forms. As an application, we explore how these results might be used to obtain integral forms in framed vertex operator algebras.
Some natural hidden symmetries in the Verma modules over the Virasoro algebra are constructed in terms of geometric quantization. Their differential geometric meaning is established and their expression via $q_R$-conformal symmetries in the Verma modules over the Lie algebra $sl(2,C)$ is found. The analysis and the unraveling of the algebraic structure of these families of hidden symmetries are performed.
We classify Jet modules for the Lie (super)algebras $\mathfrak{L}=W\ltimes(\mathfrak{g}\otimes\mathbb{C}[t,t^{-1}])$, where $W$ is the Witt algebra and $\mathfrak{g}$ is a Lie superalgebra with an even diagonlizable derivation. Then we give a concept method to classify all simple cuspidal modules for $\mathfrak{L}$ and the map superalgebras, which are of the form $\mathfrak{L}\otimes R$, where $R$ is a Noetherian unital supercommutative associative superalgebra.
The vertex operator algebras and modules associated to the highest weight modules for the Virasoro algebra over an arbitrary field F whose characteristic is not equal to 2 are studied. The irreducible modules of vertex operator algebra L(1/2,0)_F are classified. The rationality of L(1/2,0)_F is established if the characteristic of F is different from 7.
