In the theory of symmetric Jack polynomials the coefficients in the expansion of the $p$th elementary symmetric function $e_p(z)$ times a Jack polynomial expressed as a series in Jack polynomials are known explicitly. Here analogues of this result for the non-symmetric Jack polynomials $E_η(z)$ are explored. Necessary conditions for non-zero coefficients in the expansion of $e_p(z) E_η(z)$ as a series in non-symmetric Jack polynomials are given. A known expansion formula for $z_i E_η(z)$ is rederived by an induction procedure, and this expansion is used to deduce the corresponding result for the expansion of $\prod_{j=1, j\ne i}^N z_j E_η(z)$, and consequently the expansion of $e_{N-1}(z) E_η(z)$. In the general $p$ case the coefficients for special terms in the expansion are presented.
The branching coefficients in the expansion of the elementary symmetric function multiplied by a symmetric Macdonald polynomial $P_κ(z)$ are known explicitly. These formulas generalise the known $r=1$ case of the Pieri-type formulas for the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials $E_η(z)$. In this paper we extend beyond the case $r=1$ for the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials, giving the full generalisation of the Pieri-type formulas for symmetric Macdonald polynomials. The decomposition also allows the evaluation of the generalised binomial coefficients $\tbinom{η}{ν}_{q,t}$ associated with the n…
In symmetric Macdonald polynomial theory the Pieri formula gives the branching coefficients for the product of the rth elementary symmetric function and the Macdonald polynomial. In this paper we give the nonsymmetric analogues for the cases r=1 and r=n-1. We do this by first deducing the the decomposition for the product of any nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomial with a linear function in terms of nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials. As a corollary of finding the branching coefficients of the product of the first elementary function with a nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomial we evaluate the genera…
We give an explicit Pieri formula for Macdonald polynomials attached to the root system C_n (with equal multiplicities). By inversion we obtain an explicit expansion for two-row Macdonald polynomials of type C.
Consider the lattice of all Young diagrams ordered by inclusion, and denote by Y its Hasse graph. Using the Pieri formula for Jack symmetric polynomials, we endow the edges of the graph Y with formal multiplicities depending on a real parameter $θ$. The multiplicities determine a potential theory on the graph Y. Our main result identifies the corresponding Martin boundary with an infinite-dimensional simplex, the ``geometric boundary'' of the Young graph Y, and provides a canonical integral representation for non-negative harmonic functions. For three particular values of the parameter, the th…
We use the Jack symmetric functions as a basis of the Fock space, and study the action of the Virasoro generators $L_n$. We calculate explicitly the matrix elements of $L_n$ with respect to the Jack-basis. A combinatorial procedure which produces these matrix elements is conjectured. As a limiting case of the formula, we obtain a Pieri-type formula which represents a product of a power sum and a Jack symmetric function as a sum of Jack symmetric functions. Also, a similar expansion was found for the case when we differentiate the Jack symmetric functions with respect to power sums. As an appli…
We give the explicit analytic development of any Jack or Macdonald polynomial in terms of elementary (resp. modified complete) symmetric functions. These two developments are obtained by inverting the Pieri formula.
We propose a definition of equivariant (with respect to an Iwahori subgroup) $K$-theory of the formal power series model $\mathbf{Q}_{G}$ of semi-infinite flag manifold and prove the Pieri-Chevalley formula, which describes the product, in the $K$-theory of $\mathbf{Q}_{G}$, of the structure sheaf of a semi-infinite Schubert variety with a line bundle (associated to a dominant integral weight) over $\mathbf{Q}_{G}$. In order to achieve this, we provide a number of fundamental results on $\mathbf{Q}_{G}$ and its Schubert subvarieties including the Borel-Weil-Bott theory, whose special case is c…
Affine analogue of Jack's polynomials introduced by Etingof and Kirillov Jr. is studied for the case of \hat{sl}_2. Using the Wakimoto representation, we give an integral formula of elliptic Selberg type for the affine Jack's polynomials. From this integral formula, the action of SL_2(Z) on the space of the affine Jack's polynomials is computed. For simple cases, we write down the affine Jack's polynomials in terms of some modular and elliptic functions.
The Jack polynomials with prescribed symmetry are obtained from the nonsymmetric polynomials via the operations of symmetrization, antisymmetrization and normalization. After dividing out the corresponding antisymmetric polynomial of smallest degree, a symmetric polynomial results. Of interest in applications is the value of the latter polynomial when all the variables are set equal. Dunkl has obtained this evaluation, making use of a certain skew symmetric operator. We introduce a simpler operator for this purpose, thereby obtaining a new derivation of the evaluation formula. An expansion for…
We use a new method to study the Laplace-Beltrami type operator on the Fock space of symmetric functions, and as an example of our explicit computation we show that the Jack symmetric functions are the only family of eigenvectors of the differential operator. As applications of this explicit method we find a combinatorial formula for Jack symmetric functions and the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients in the Jack case. As further applications, we obtain a new determinantal formula for Jack symmetric functions. We also obtained a generalized raising operator formula for Jack symmetric functions,…
The Al-Salam & Carlitz polynomials are $q$-generalizations of the classical Hermite polynomials. Multivariable generalizations of these polynomials are introduced via a generating function involving a multivariable hypergeometric function which is the $q$-analogue of the type-$A$ Dunkl integral kernel. An eigenoperator is established for these polynomials and this is used to prove orthogonality with respect to a certain Jackson integral inner product. This inner product is normalized by deriving a $q$-analogue of the Mehta integral, and the corresponding normalization of the multivariable Al-S…
We show how the threshold level of affine fusion, the fusion of Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) conformal field theories, fits into the Schubert calculus introduced by Gepner. The Pieri rule can be modified in a simple way to include the threshold level, so that calculations may be done for all (non-negative integer) levels at once. With the usual Giambelli formula, the modified Pieri formula deforms the tensor product coefficients (and the fusion coefficients) into what we call threshold polynomials. We compare them with the q-deformed tensor product coefficients and fusion coefficients that are rel…
Formulas of Rodrigues-type for the Macdonald polynomials are presented. They involve creation operators, certain properties of which are proved and other conjectured. The limiting case of the Jack polynomials is discussed.
We consider 3-parametric polynomials which replace the A-series interpolation Macdonald polynomials in the BC case. For these polynomials, we prove: an integral representation, a combinatorial formula, Pieri-type rules, Cauchy identity, and we also show that they do not satisfy any rational q-difference equation. We also prove a binomial formula for the 6-parametric Koornwinder polynomials.
We study Macdonald polynomials from a basic hypergeometric series point of view. In particular, we show that the Pieri formula for Macdonald polynomials and its recently discovered inverse, a recursion formula for Macdonald polynomials, both represent multivariable extensions of the terminating very-well-poised 6-phi-5 summation formula. We derive several new related identities including multivariate extensions of Jackson's very-well-poised 8-phi-7 summation. Motivated by our basic hypergeometric analysis, we propose an extension of Macdonald polynomials to Macdonald symmetric functions indexe…
The Hi-Jack symmetric polynomials, which are associated with the simultaneous eigenstates for the first and second conserved operators of the quantum Calogero model, are studied. Using the algebraic properties of the Dunkl operators for the model, we derive the Rodrigues formula for the Hi-Jack symmetric polynomials. Some properties of the Hi-Jack polynomials and the relationships with the Jack symmetric polynomials and with the basis given by the QISM approach are presented. The Hi-Jack symmetric polynomials are strong candidates for the orthogonal basis of the quantum Calogero model.
We give explicit formulae of Whittaker vectors for Virasoro algebra in terms of the Jack symmetric polynomials. Our fundamental tools are the Feigin-Fuchs bosonization and the split expression of the Calogero-Sutherland model given by Awata-Matsuo-Odake-Shiraishi.
On the vertex operator algebra associated with rank one lattice we derive a general formula for products of vertex operators in terms of generalized homogeneous symmetric functions. As an application we realize Jack symmetric functions of rectangular shapes as well as marked rectangular shapes.
We call superpartitions the indices of the eigenfunctions of the supersymmetric extension of the trigonometric Calogero-Moser-Sutherland model. We obtain an ordering on superpartitions from the explicit action of the model's Hamiltonian on monomial superfunctions. This allows to define Jack superpolynomials as the unique eigenfunctions of the model that decompose triangularly, with respect to this ordering, on the basis of monomial superfunctions. This further leads to a simple and explicit determinantal expression for the Jack superpolynomials.
Symmetric Jack polynomials arise naturally in several contexts, including statistics, physics, combinatorics, and representation theory. They are pairwise orthogonal with repsect to two different inner products, the first defined by integration over an n-dimensional torus, and the second defined via a power series expansion. The nonsymmetric analogs of Jack polynomials were recently defined by Opdam via the first inner product. In this paper we show that they are also orthogonal with respect to an analog of the second product which was proposed by Dunkl. We also derive an explict formula for t…
We consider the coincident root loci consisting of the polynomials with at least two double roots andpresent a linear basis of the corresponding ideal in the algebra of symmetric polynomials in terms of the Jack polynomials with special value of parameter $α= -2.$ As a corollary we present an explicit formula for the Hilbert-Poincarè series of this ideal and the generator of the minimal degree as a special Jack polynomial. A generalization to the case of the symmetric polynomials vanishing on the double shifted diagonals and the Macdonald polynomials specialized at $t^2 q = 1$ is also presente…
It is shown that the deformed Calogero-Moser-Sutherland (CMS) operators can be described as the restrictions on certain affine subvarieties (called generalised discriminants) of the usual CMS operators for infinite number of particles. The ideals of these varieties are shown to be generated by the Jack symmetric functions related to the Young diagrams with special geometry. A general structure of the ideals which are invariant under the action of the quantum CMS integrals is discussed in this context. The shifted super-Jack polynomials are introduced and combinatorial formulas for them and for…
We attempt to explain the ubiquity of tableaux and of Pieri and Cauchy formulae for combinatorially defined families of symmetric functions. We show that such formulae are to be expected from symmetric functions arising from representations of Heisenberg algebras. The resulting framework that we describe is a generalization of the classical Boson-Fermion correspondence, from which Schur functions arise. Our work can be used to understand Hall-Littlewood polynomials, Macdonald polynomials and Lascoux, Leclerc and Thibon's ribbon functions, together with other new families of symmetric functions…
A new generalization of the Jack polynomials that incorporates fermionic variables is presented. These Jack superpolynomials are constructed as those eigenfunctions of the supersymmetric extension of the trigonometric Calogero-Moser-Sutherland (CMS) model that decomposes triangularly in terms of the symmetric monomial superfunctions. Many explicit examples are displayed. Furthermore, various new results have been obtained for the supersymmetric version of the CMS models: the Lax formulation, the construction of the Dunkl operators and the explicit expressions for the conserved charges. The ref…
An infinite-dimensional version of Calogero-Moser operator of $BC$-type and the corresponding Jacobi symmetric functions are introduced and studied, including the analogues of Pieri formula and Okounkov's binomial formula. We use this to describe all the ideals linearly generated by the Jacobi symmetric functions and show that the deformed $BC(m,n)$ Calogero-Moser operators, introduced in our earlier work, appear here in a natural way as the restrictions of the $BC_{\infty}$ operator to the corresponding finite-dimensional subvarieties. As a corollary we have the integrability of these quantum…
The Calogero model is a one-dimensional quantum integrable system with inverse-square long-range interactions confined in an external harmonic well. It shares the same algebraic structure with the Sutherland model, which is also a one-dimensional quantum integrable system with inverse-sine-square interactions. Inspired by the Rodrigues formula for the Jack polynomials, which form the orthogonal basis of the Sutherland model, recently found by Lapointe and Vinet, we construct the Rodrigues formula for the Hi-Jack (hidden-Jack) polynomials that form the orthogonal basis of the Calogero model.
