This is a contribution to the classification program of pointed Hopf algebras. We give a generalization of the quantum Serre relations and propose a generalization of the Frobenius-Lusztig kernels in order to compute Nichols algebras of diagonal group type. With this, we classify Nichols algebras B(V) with dimension < 32 or with dimension p^3, p a prime number, when V lies in a Yetter-Drinfeld category over a finite group. With the so called Lifting Procedure, this allows to classify pointed Hopf algebras of index < 32 or p^3.
In recent articles by Etingof-Schedler-Soloviev and Lu-Yan-Zhu, the authors deal with set-theoretical solutions to the Braid Equation. We propose here an homology theory for conjugate solutions (in the language of Lu-Yan-Zhu) which parameterizes usual solutions lying over set-theoretical conjugate ones. These usual solutions are modules in Yetter-Drinfeld categories over group algebras, and then they provide (after computing Nichols algebras and liftings of their bosonizations) families of pointed Hopf algebras.
We establish the relationship among Nichols algebras, Nichols braided Lie algebras and Nichols Lie algebras. We prove two results: (i) Nichols algebra $\mathfrak B(V)$ is finite-dimensional if and only if Nichols braided Lie algebra $\mathfrak L(V)$ is finite-dimensional if there does not exist any $m$-infinity element in $\mathfrak B(V)$; (ii) Nichols Lie algebra $\mathfrak L^-(V)$ is infinite dimensional if $ D^-$ is infinite. We give the sufficient conditions for Nichols braided Lie algebra $\mathfrak L(V)$ to be a homomorphic image of a braided Lie algebra generated by $V$ with defining re…
Nichols algebras are a fundamental building block of pointed Hopf algebras. Part of the classification program of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras with the lifting method of Andruskiewitsch and Schneider is the determination of the liftings, i.e., all possible deformations of a given Nichols algebra. Based on recent work of Heckenberger about Nichols algebras of diagonal type we compute explicitly the liftings of all Nichols algebras with Cartan matrix of type A_2, some Nichols algebras with Cartan matrix of type B_2, and some Nichols algebras of two Weyl equivalence classes of non-sta…
Between the braided vector spaces of diagonal type there exist some families whose associated Nichols algebras are infinite dimensional but with finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension, called one-parameter families. We show that every pre-Nichols algebra of finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of this kind with connected diagram is necessarily the corresponding Nichols algebra, up to few exceptions. For each one of these exceptions we present a proper pre-Nichols algebra by generators and relations, and prove that it is the corresponding eminent pre-Nichols algebra. This paper essentially ends the det…
The method of subquotients is developed and used to determine all finite dimensional rank 2 Nichols algebras of diagonal type over an arbitrary field of characteristic zero. Key Words: Hopf algebra, Nichols algebra
Assume that $V$ is a braided vector space with diagonal type. It is shown that a monomial belongs to Nichols braided Lie algebra $\mathfrak L(V)$ if and only if this monomial is connected. A basis of Nichols braided Lie algebra and dimension of Nichols braided Lie algebra of finite Cartan type are obtained.
We translate the concept of restriction of an arrangement in terms of Hopf algebras. In consequence, every Nichols algebra gives rise to a simplicial complex decorated by Nichols algebras with restricted root systems. As applications, some of these Nichols algebras provide Weyl groupoids which do not arise for Nichols algebras over finite groups and in fact we realize all root systems of finite Weyl groupoids of rank greater than three. Further, our result explains the root systems of the folded Nichols algebras over nonabelian groups and of generalized Satake diagrams.
We show that every finite GK-dimensional pre-Nichols algebra for braidings of diagonal type with connected diagram of modular, supermodular or unidentified type is a quotient of the distinguished pre-Nichols algebra introduced by the first-named author, up to two exceptions. For both of these exceptional cases, we provide a pre-Nichols algebra that substitutes the distinguished one in the sense that it projects onto all finite GK-dimensional pre-Nichols algebras. We build these two substitutes as non-trivial central extensions with finite GK-dimension of the corresponding distinguished pre-Nic…
We classify Nichols algebras of irreducible Yetter-Drinfeld modules over nonabelian groups satisfying an inequality for the dimension of the homogeneous subspace of degree two. All such Nichols algebras are finite-dimensional, and all known finite-dimensional Nichols algebras of nonabelian group type appear in the result of our classification. We find a new finite-dimensional Nichols algebra over fields of characteristic two.
We give a model of the coinvariant algebra of the complex reflection groups as a subalgebra of a braided Hopf algebra called Nichols-Woronowicz algebra.
Two algebras can be attached to a braided vector space $(V, c)$ in an intrinsic way; the FRT-bialgebra and the Nichols algebra $\toba(V, c)$. The FRT-bialgebra plays the rôle of the algebra of quantum matrices, whereas the rôle of the Nichols algebra is less understood. Some authors call $\toba(V)$ a quantum symmetric algebra. The purpose of this paper is to discuss some properties of certain Nichols algebras, in an attempt to establish classes of Nichols algebras which are worth of further study.
We describe a Nichols-algebra-motivated construction of an octuplet chiral algebra that is a "W_3-counterpart" of the triplet algebra of (p,1) logarithmic models of two-dimensional conformal field theory.
In this paper, the author gives a complete set of simple Yetter-Drinfeld modules over Suzuki algebra $A_{N\,2n+1}^{μλ}$ and investigates the Nichols algebras over those irreducible Yetter-Drinfeld modules. The finite dimensional Nichols algebras of diagonal type are of Cartan type $A_1$, $A_1\times A_1$, $A_2$, Super type ${A}_{2}(q;I_2)$ and the Nichols algebra $\mathfrak{ufo}(8)$. And the involved finite dimensional Nichols algebras of non-diagonal type are $12$, $4m$ and $m^2$ dimensional. The left three unsolved cases are set as open problems.
We investigate the Nichols algebra $\mathfrak{B}(V_{abe})$ which are from the Yetter-Drinfeld category of Suzuki algebras. The $4n$ and $n^2$ dimensional Nichols algebras, first appeared in \cite{Andruskiewitsch2018}, are obtained again via a different method. And the connection between the Nichols algebra $\mathfrak{B}(V_{abe})$ and a class of combinatorial numbers on the subgroups of symmetric groups is established.
It is shown that if $\mathfrak B(V) $ is connected Nichols algebra of diagonal type with $\dim V>1$, then $\dim (\mathfrak L^-(V)) = \infty$ $($resp. $ \dim (\mathfrak L(V)) = \infty $$)$ $($ resp. $ \dim (\mathfrak B(V)) = \infty $$)$ if and only if $Δ(\mathfrak B(V)) $ is an arithmetic root system and the quantum numbers (i.e. the fixed parameters) of generalized Dynkin diagrams of $V$ are of finite order. Sufficient and necessary conditions for $m$-fold adjoint action in $\mathfrak B(V)$ equal to zero, viz. $\overline{l}_{x_{i}}^{m}[x_{j}]^ -=0$ for $x_i,~x_j\in \mathfrak B(V)$, are given.
We present a divisibility relation for the dimensions and Hilbert series of certain classes of Nichols algebras of non-abelian group type, which generalizes Nichols algebras over Coxeter groups with constant cocycle -1. For this we introduce three groups of isomorphisms acting on Nichols algebras, which generalize the exchange operator introduced by Milinski and Schneider for Coxeter groups in "Pointed indecomposable Hopf algebras over Coxeter groups".
We determine the multiplicities of a class of roots for Nichols algebras of diagonal type of rank two, and identify the corresponding root vectors. Our analysis is based on a precise description of the relations of the Nichols algebra in the corresponding degrees.
We apply a combinatorial formula of the first author and Rosso, for products in Hopf quiver algebras, to determine the structure of Nichols algebras. We illustrate this technique by explicitly constructing new examples of Nichols algebras in positive characteristic. We further describe the corresponding Radford biproducts and some liftings of these biproducts, which are new finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras.
A technique is developed to reduce the investigation of Nichols algebras of integrable U_q(g)-modules to the investigation of Nichols algebras of braided vector spaces with diagonal braiding. The results are applied to obtain information on the Gelfan'd-Kirillov dimension of these Nichols algebras and their defining relations if the braiding is of a special type and q is not a root of unity. For simple g the cases of finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension are determined completely.
Nichols algebras are fundamental objects in the construction of quantized enveloping algebras and in the classification of pointed Hopf algebras by lifting method of Andruskiewitsch and Schneider. Arithmetic root systems are invariants of Nichols algebras of diagonal type with a certain finiteness property. In the present paper, all rank 4 Nichols algebras of diagonal type with a finite arithmetic root system over fields of arbitrary characteristic are classified. Our proof uses the classification of the finite arithmetic root systems of rank 4.
We study the Nichols algebra of a semisimple Yetter-Drinfeld module and introduce new invariants such as real roots. The crucial ingredient is a `reflection' in the class of such Nichols algebras. We conclude the classifications of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras over S_3, and of finite-dimensional Nichols algebras over S_4. The revised version contains an extended introduction with references to recent applications, and a simplified definition of the Weyl groupoid of a semisimple Yetter-Drinfeld module. Over fields of arbitrary characteristic we classify all rank three Nichols algebras of diagonal type with a finite root system. Our proof uses the classification of the finite Weyl groupoids of rank three.
This paper is devoted to explore the freeness of Nichols algebras of diagonal type and to determine the dimension of the kernel of the shuffle map considered as an operator acting on the free algebra. Our proof is based on an inequality for the number of Lyndon words and on an identity for the shuffle map. For a particular family of examples, the freeness of the Nichols algebra is characterized in terms of solutions of a quadratic diophantine equation.
We study pre-Nichols algebras of quantum linear spaces and of Cartan type with finite GK-dimension. We prove that out of a short list of exceptions involving only roots of order 2, 3, 4, 6, any such pre-Nichols algebra is a quotient of the distinguished pre-Nichols algebra introduced by Angiono generalizing the De Concini-Procesi quantum groups. There are two new examples, one of which can be thought of as $G_2$ at a third root of one.
Nichols algebras naturally appear in the classification of finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras. Assuming only that the base field has characteristic zero several new finite dimensional rank 2 Nichols algebras of diagonal type are listed. Each of them is described in terms of generators and relations. A Poincaré--Birkhoff--Witt basis of all of these Nichols algebras is given and their dimension is computed. Together with the continuation of this paper this gives an answer to a question of Andruskiewitsch. Key Words: Hopf algebra, Lyndon words, full binary tree
In this paper, we investigate the Nichols algebra $\mathfrak{B}(W_{X,r})$ associated to any non-degenerate involutive solution $(X, r)$ of the Yang-Baxter equation. Infinite examples of finite dimensional Nichols algebras are obtained, including those of dimension $n^m$ with $m$, $n\in\Bbb Z^{\geq 2}$. It turns out that the Nichols algebra $\mathfrak{B}(W_{X, r})$ has interesting relations with multinomial expansion. This is a generalization of the work in arXiv:2103.06489, which built a connection between the Nichols algebras of squared dimension and Pascal's triangle.
The concept of arithmetic root systems is introduced. It is shown that there is a one-to-one correspondence between arithmetic root systems and Nichols algebras of diagonal type having a finite set of (restricted) Poincare'-Birkhoff-Witt generators. This has strong consequences for both objects. As an application all rank 2 Nichols algebras of diagonal type having a finite set of (restricted) Poincare'-Birkhoff-Witt generators are determined. We classify Nichols algebras of irreducible Yetter-Drinfeld modules over groups such that the underlying rack is braided and the homogeneous component of degree three of the Nichols algebra satisfies a given inequality. This assumption turns out to be equivalent to a factorization assumption on the Hilbert series. Besides the known Nichols algebras we obtain a new example. Our method is based on a combinatorial invariant of the Hurwitz orbits with respect to the action of the braid group on three strands.
We study the factorization of the Hilbert series and more general graded traces of a Nichols algebra into cyclotomic polynomials. Nichols algebras play the role of Borel subalgebras of finite-dimensional quantum groups, so this observation can be viewed as an analog to the factorization of the order of finite Lie groups into cyclotomic polynomials. We prove results on this factorization and give a table of many examples of rank 1 over nonabelian groups.
We give a description of the (small) quantum cohomology ring of the flag variety as a certain commutative subalgebra in the tensor product of the Nichols algebras. Our main result can be considered as a quantum analog of a result by Y. Bazlov.
We give the full structure of the Ext algebra of a Nichols algebra of type $A_2$ by using the Hochschild-Serre spectral sequence. As an application, we show that the pointed Hopf algebras $u(\mathcal{D}, \lmd, μ)$ with Dynkin diagrams of type $A$, $D$, or $E$, except for $A_1$ and $A_1\times A_1$ with the order $N_{J}>2$ for at least one component $J$, are wild.
In a vertex algebra setting, we consider non-local screening operators associated to the basis of any non-integral lattice. We have previously shown that, under certain restrictions, these screening operators satisfy the relations of a quantum shuffle algebra or Nichols algebra associated to a diagonal braiding, which encodes the non-locality and non-integrality. In the present article, we take all finite-dimensional diagonal Nichols algebras, as classified by Heckenberger, and find all lattice realizations of the braiding that are compatible with reflections. Usually, the realizations are uni…
We consider a class of Nichols algebras $\mathscr{B} (\mathfrak L_q( 1, \mathscr{G}))$ introduced in [3] which are domains and have many favorable properties like AS-regular and strongly noetherian. We classify their finite-dimensional simple modules and their point modules.
We contribute to the classification of Hopf algebras with finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension, $\operatorname{GKdim}$ for short, through the study of Nichols algebras over abelian groups. We deal first with braided vector spaces over $\mathbb Z$ with the generator acting as a single Jordan block and show that the corresponding Nichols algebra has finite $\operatorname{GKdim}$ if and only if the size of the block is 2 and the eigenvalue is $\pm 1$; when this is 1, we recover the quantum Jordan plane. We consider next a class of braided vector spaces that are direct sums of blocks and points that …
The Suzuki algebra $A_{Nn}^{μλ}$ was introduced by Suzuki Satoshi in 1998, which is a class of cosemisimple Hopf algebras. It is not categorically Morita-equivalent to a group algebra in general. In this paper, the author gives a complete set of simple Yetter-Drinfeld modules over the Suzuki algebra $A_{N\,2n}^{μλ}$ and investigates the Nichols algebras over those simple Yetter-Drinfeld modules. The involved finite dimensional Nichols algebras of diagonal type are of Cartan type $A_1$, $A_1\times A_1$, $A_2$, $A_2\times A_2$, Super type ${\bf A}_{2}(q;I_2)$ and the Nichols algebra ufo(8). Ther…
Motivated by work of Kac and Lusztig, we define a root system and a Weyl groupoid for a large class of semisimple Yetter-Drinfeld modules over an arbitrary Hopf algebra. The obtained combinatorial structure fits perfectly into an existing framework of generalized root systems associated to a family of Cartan matrices, and provides novel insight into Nichols algebras. We demonstrate the power of our construction with new results on Nichols algebras over finite non-abelian simple groups and symmetric groups. Yetter--Drinfel'd modules of diagonal type admit an equivalence relation which conjecturally preserves dimension and Gel'fand--Kirillov dimension of the corresponding Nichols algebras. This relation is determined explicitly for all rank 2 Yetter--Drinfeld modules where the Gel'fand--Kirillov dimension is known to be finite. Key Words: Brandt groupoid, Hopf algebra, pseudo-reflections, Weyl group
In this paper, our main aim is to determine the multiplicities of a class of roots for Nichols algebra of diagonal type over fields of arbitrary characteristic, which is a generalization of the results on the multiplicities of these roots over fields of characteristic zero obtained by I. Heckenberber and the author.
For $n,m\in \mathbb{N}$, let $H_{n,m}$ be the dual of the Radford algebra of dimension $n^{2}m$. We present new finite-dimensional Nichols algebras arising from the study of simple Yetter-Drinfeld modules over $H_{n,m}$. Along the way, we describe the simple objects in ${}^{H_{n,m}}_{H_{n,m}}\mathcal{YD}$ and their projective envelopes. Then, we determine those simple modules that give rise to finite-dimensional Nichols algebras for the case $n=2$. There are 18 possible cases. We present by generators and relations the corresponding Nichols algebras on five of these eighteen cases. As an appli…
We formulate the generation of finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras by group-like elements and skew-primitives in geometric terms. This is done through a more general study of connected and coconnected Hopf algebras inside a braided fusion category $\mathcal{C}$. We describe such Hopf algebras as orbits for the action of a reductive group on an affine variety. We then show that the closed orbits are precisely the orbits of Nichols algebras, and that all other algebras are therefore deformations of Nichols algebras. For the case where the category $\mathcal{C}$ is the category $^G_G\mathcal…
We obtain a presentation by generators and relations of any Nichols algebra of diagonal type with finite root system. We prove that the defining ideal is finitely generated. The proof is based in Kharchenko's theory of PBW basis of Lyndon words. We prove that the lexicographic order on Lyndon words is convex for such PBW generators and so the PBW basis is orthogonal with respect to the canonical non-degenerate form associated to the Nichols algebra.
We construct chiral algebras that centralize rank-two Nichols algebras with at least one fermionic generator. This gives "logarithmic" W-algebra extensions of a fractional-level ^sl(2) algebra. We discuss crucial aspects of the emerging general relation between Nichols algebras and logarithmic CFT models: (i) the extra input, beyond the Nichols algebra proper, needed to uniquely specify a conformal model; (ii) a relation between the CFT counterparts of Nichols algebras connected by Weyl groupoid maps; and (iii) the common double bosonization U(X) of such Nichols algebras. For an extended chira…
Using the theory of covering groups of Schur we prove that the two Nichols algebras associated to the conjugacy class of transpositions in S_n are equivalent by twist and hence they have the same Hilbert series. These algebras appear in the classification of pointed Hopf algebras and in the study of quantum cohomology ring of flag manifolds.
In this paper, we continue to investigate finite-dimensional Nichols algebras over simple Yetter-Drinfeld modules of the Suzuki algebras $A_{N\, n}^{μλ}$. It is finished for the case $A_{N\, 2n}^{μλ}$. As for the case $A_{N\, 2n+1}^{μλ}$, it boils down to the long-standing open problem: calculate dimensions of Nichols algebras of dihedral rack type $\Bbb D_{2n+1}$. It is interesting to see that the Suzuki algebras are of set-theoretical type. We pose some question or problems for our future research. In particular, we are curious about how to generalize the correspondence between braidings of …
The theory of Nichols algebras of diagonal type is known to be closely related to that of semisimple Lie algebras. In this paper the connection between both theories is made closer. For any Nichols algebra of diagonal type invertible transformations are introduced, which remind one of the action of the Weyl group on the root system associated to a semisimple Lie algebra. They give rise to the definition of a Brandt groupoid. As an application an alternative proof of classification results of Rosso, Andruskiewitsch, and Schneider is obtained without using any technical assumptions on the braidi…
We compute necessary conditions on Yetter-Drinfeld modules over the groups SL(2,Fq) and GL(2,Fq) to generate finite dimensional Nichols algebras. This is a first step towards a classification of pointed Hopf algebras with a group of group-likes isomorphic to one of these groups.
The class of standard braided vector spaces, introduced by Andruskiewitsch and the author in \texttt{arXiv:math/0703924v2} to understand the proof of a theorem of Heckenberger \cite{H2}, is slightly more general than the class of braided vector spaces of Cartan type. In the present paper, we classify standard braided vector spaces with finite-dimensional Nichols algebra. For any such braided vector space, we give a PBW-basis, a closed formula of the dimension and a presentation by generators and relations of the associated Nichols algebra.
We show that except in several cases conjugacy classes of classical Weyl groups $W(B_n)$ and $W(D_n)$ are of type {\rm D}. We prove that except in three cases Nichols algebras of irreducible Yetter-Drinfeld ({\rm YD} in short )modules over the classical Weyl groups are infinite dimensional. We establish the relationship between Fomin-Kirillov algebra $\mathcal E_n$ and Nichols algebra $\mathfrak{B} ({\mathcal O}_{(1, 2)} , ε\otimes {\rm sgn})$ of transposition over symmetry group by means of quiver Hopf algebras. We generalize {\rm FK } algebra. The characteristic of finiteness of Nichols alge…
We realise the cohomology ring of a flag manifold, more generally the coinvariant algebra of an arbitrary finite Coxeter group W, as a commutative subalgebra of a certain Nichols algebra in the Yetter-Drinfeld category over W. This gives a braided Hopf algebra version of the corresponding Schubert calculus. Our proof is based on methods of braided differential calculus rather than on working directly with the relations in the Nichols algebra, which are not known explicitly. We also discuss the relationship between Fomin-Kirillov quadratic algebras, Kirillov-Maeno bracket algebras and our const…
Let $V$ be a braided vector space of diagonal type. Let $\mathfrak B(V)$, $\mathfrak L^-(V)$ and $\mathfrak L(V)$ be the Nichols algebra, Nichols Lie algebra and Nichols braided Lie algebra over $V$, respectively. We show that a monomial belongs to $\mathfrak L(V)$ if and only if that this monomial is connected. We obtain the basis for $\mathfrak L(V)$ of arithmetic root systems and the dimension for $\mathfrak L(V)$ of finite Cartan type. We give the sufficient and necessary conditions for $\mathfrak B(V) = F\oplus \mathfrak L^-(V)$ and $\mathfrak L^-(V)= \mathfrak L(V)$. We obtain an explici…
We prove {\rm (i)} Nichols algebra $\mathfrak B(V)$ of vector space $V$ is finite-dimensional if and only if Nichols braided Lie algebra $\mathfrak L(V)$ is finite-dimensional; {\rm (ii)} If the rank of connected $V$ is $2$ and $\mathfrak B(V)$ is an arithmetic root system, then $\mathfrak B(V) = F \oplus \mathfrak L(V);$ and {\rm (iii)} if $Δ(\mathfrak B(V))$ is an arithmetic root system and there does not exist any $m$-infinity element with $p_{uu} \not= 1$ for any $u \in D(V)$, then $\dim (\mathfrak B(V) ) = \infty$ if and only if there exists $V'$, which is twisting equivalent to $V$, such…
Let $(V,c)$ be a finite-dimensional braided vector space of diagonal type. We show that the Gelfand Kirillov dimension of the Nichols algebra $\mathfrak{B}(V)$ is finite if and only if the corresponding root system is finite, that is $\mathfrak{B}(V)$ admits a PBW basis with a finite number of generators. This had been conjectured in arXiv:1606.02521 and proved for $\dim V=2,3$ in arXiv:1803.08804, arXiv:2106.10143 respectively.
Let $\mathcal{B}_{\mathfrak{q}}$ be a finite-dimensional Nichols algebra of diagonal type corresponding to a matrix $\mathfrak{q} \in \mathbf{k}^{θ\times θ}$, where $\mathbf{k}$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. Let $\mathcal{L}_{\mathfrak{q}}$ be the Lusztig algebra associated to $\mathcal{B}_{\mathfrak{q}}$, see http://arxiv.org/abs/1501.04518. We present $\mathcal{L}_{\mathfrak{q}}$ as an extension (as braided Hopf algebras) of $\mathcal{B}_{\mathfrak{q}}$ by $\mathfrak Z_{\mathfrak{q}}$ where $\mathfrak Z_{\mathfrak{q}}$ is isomorphic to the universal enveloping algebra…
We compute liftings of the Nichols algebra of a Yetter-Drinfeld module of Cartan type $B_2$ subject to the small restriction that the diagonal elements of the braiding matrix are primitive $n$th roots of 1 with odd $n\neq 5$. As well, we compute the liftings of a Nichols algebra of Cartan type $A_2$ if the diagonal elements of the braiding matrix are cube roots of 1; this case was not completely covered in previous work of Andruskiewitsch and Schneider. We study the problem of when the liftings of a given Nichols algebra are quasi-isomorphic. The Appendix (with I. Rutherford) contains a genera…
We give an explicit and essentially minimal list of defining relations of a Nichols algebra of diagonal type with finite root system. This list contains the well-known quantum Serre relations but also many new variations. A conjecture by Andruskiewitsch and Schneider states that any finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero is generated as an algebra by its group-like and skew-primitive elements. As an application of our main result, we prove the conjecture when the group of group-like elements is abelian.
