We consider manifolds equipped with a foliation $\cal F$ of codimension $4q$, and an almost quaternionic structure $Q$ on the transversal bundle of ${\cal F}$. After discussing conditions of projectability and integrability of $Q$, we study the transversal twistor space $Z{\cal F}$ which, by definition, consists of the $Q$-compatible almost complex structures. We show that $Z{\cal F}$ can be endowed with a lifted foliation ${\hat {\cal F}}$ and two natural almost complex structures $J_1$, $J_2$ on the transversal bundle of $\hat{\cal F}$. We establish the conditions which ensure the projectability of $J_1$ and $J_2$, and the integrability of $J_{1}$ ($J_{2}$ is never integrable).
We classify irreducible polar foliations of codimension $q$ on quaternionic projective spaces $\mathbb H P^n$, for all $(n,q)\neq(7,1)$. We prove that all irreducible polar foliations of any codimension (resp. of codimension one) on $\mathbb H P^n$ are homogeneous if and only if $n+1$ is a prime number (resp. $n$ is even or $n=1$). This shows the existence of inhomogeneous examples of codimension one and higher.
We study the transversal hard Lefschetz theorem on a transversely symplectic foliation. This article extends the results of transversally symplectic flows (H.K.~Pak, "Transversal harmonic theory for transversally symplectic flows", J. Aust. Math. Soc. 84 (2008), 233--245) to the general transversely symplectic foliation.
Let F be a Kähler foliation on a compact Riemannian manifold M. we study the properties of infinitesimal automorphisms on (M,F), and in particular we concentrate on the transversal conformal field, transversal projective field and transversally holomorphic field
In this paper, we prove Kirchberg inequalities for any kahler spin foliations. Their limiting cases are then characterized as being transversal minimal Einstein foliations. The key point is to introduce the transversal kahlerian twistor operators.
Let $(M,g_M,\mathcal F)$ be a closed, connected Riemannian manifold with a Riemannian foliation $\mathcal F$ of nonzero constant transversal scalar curvature. When $M$ admits a transversal nonisometric conformal field, we find some generalized conditions that $\mathcal F$ is transversally isometric to the sphere.
The transversal twistor space of a foliation F of an even codimension is the bundle ZF of the complex structures of the fibers of the transversal bundle of F. On ZF, there exists a foliation F' by covering spaces of the leaves of F, and any Bott connection of F produces an ordered pair (I,J) of transversal almost complex structures of F'. The existence of a Bott connection which yields a structure I that is projectable to the space of leaves is equivalent to the fact that F is a transversally projective foliation. A Bott connection which yields a projectable structure J exists iff F is a trans…
We study the transversal wave equation on a compact Riemannian foliated manifold. As applications, we get an Egorov's type theorem for transversally elliptic operators, state a relationship between the singularities of the Fourier transform of the spectrum distribution function of a transversally elliptic operator and the corresponding transversal bicharacteristic flow and give a description of the noncommutative geodesic flow in transversal geometry of Riemannian foliations.
The paper is focused on the existence problem of attractors for foliations. Since the existence of an attractor is a transversal property of the foliation, it is natural to consider foliations admitting transversal geometric structures. As transversal structures are chosen Cartan geometries due to their universality. The existence problem of an attractor on a complete Cartan foliation is reduced to a similar problem for the action of its structure Lie group on a certain smooth manifold. In the case of a complete Cartan foliation with a structure subordinated to a transformation group, the prob…
We introduce curvature-adapted foliations of complex hyperbolic space and study some of their properties. Generalized pseudo-Einstein hypersurfaces of complex hyperbolic space are classified. Analogous results for curvature-adapted hypersurfaces of quaternionic hyperbolic space are also obtained.
We study the quaternionic Monge-Ampère equation on HKT manifolds admitting an HKT foliation having corank 4. We show that in this setting the quaternionic Monge-Ampère equation has always a unique solution for every basic datum. This approach includes the study of the equation on SU(3).
As a generalization of anti-invariant Riemannian submersions and Lagrangian Riemannian submersions, we introduce the notions of h-anti-invariant submersions and h-Lagrangian submersions from almost quaternionic Hermitian manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds. We obtain characterizations and investigate some properties: the integrability of distributions, the geometry of foliations, and the harmonicity of such maps. We also find a condition for such maps to be totally geodesic and give some examples of such maps. Finally, we obtain some types of decomposition theorems.
We prove the generalized Obata theorem on foliations. Let M be a complete Riemannian manifold with a foliation F of codimension $q>1$ and a bundle-like metric. Then $(M, F)$ is transversally isometric to the q-sphere of radius 1/c in (q+1)-dimensional Euclidean space endowed with the action of a discrete subgroup of the orthogonal group O(q), if and only if there exists a non-constant basic function f such that $\nabla_X df = -c^2 f X^\flat for all basic normal vector fields X, where c is a positive constant and \nabla is the connection on the normal bundle. By the generalized Obata theorem, w…
We introduce the notions of h-conformal slant submersions and almost h-conformal slant submersions from almost quaternionic Hermitian manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds as a generalization of Riemannian submersions, horizontally conformal submersions, slant submersions, h-slant submersions, almost h-slant submersion and conformal slant submersions. We investigate several properties of these including the integrability of distributions, the geometry of foliations and the conditions for such maps to be totally geodesic. Further we give some examples of such maps.
As a generalization of Riemannian submersions, horizontally conformal submersions, semi-invariant submersions, h-semi-invariant submersions, almost h-semi-invariant submersions, conformal semi-invariant submersions, we introduce h-conformal semi-invariant submersions and almost h-conformal semi-invariant submersions from almost quaternionic Hermitian manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds. We study their properties: the geometry of foliations, the conditions for total manifolds to be locally product manifolds, the conditions for such maps to be totally geodesic, etc. Finally, we give some example…
For closed manifolds endowed with a Riemannian foliation of codimension $4$, one can define a transversal Seiberg-Witten map. We show that there is a finite dimensional approximation for such a map. By such a method and under the condition that $H^1_b(M)\cap H^1(M,\mathbb Z)$ is a lattice of $H^1_b(M)$, we can define a foliated version of Bauer-Furuta invariant. Moreover, if the basic cohomological group is of zero dimension, we can give an estimate for the index of transversal Dirac operator of a foliated spin structure. Furthermore, under the condition that $H^\pm_b(M)=1$, we show the vanish…
In these survey lectures, we investigate the geometric and analytic properties of transverse Dirac operators. In particular, we define a transverse Dirac operator associated to a distribution that is essentially self-adjoint (Prokhorenkov-R result). We describe the Habib-R Theorem showing that the invariance of the spectrum of a basic Dirac operator on a Riemannian foliation. The Bruening-Kamber-R theorems give Atiyah-Singer type formulas for the equivariant index of transversally elliptic operators on G-manifolds and the index of basic Dirac operators on Riemannian foliations. These notes con…
On an orientable manifold M, we consider a regular even dimensional foliation F which is globally defined by a set of k-independent 1-forms. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a regular Poisson structure on M whose Characteristic foliation is precisely F. Moreover, introducing a special class of the foliated 1-cohomology we describe obstructions for the existence of unimodular Poisson structures with a given characteristic foliation. In the same lines, we also give conditions for the existence of transversally constant Poisson structures.
Given a manifold M with a submanifold N, the deformation space D(M,N) is a manifold with a submersion to R whose zero fiber is the normal bundle, and all other fibers are equal to M. This article uses deformation spaces to study the local behavior of various geometric structures associated with singular foliations, with N a submanifold transverse to the foliation. New examples include L_\infty-algebroids, Courant algebroids, and Lie bialgebroids. In each case, we obtain a normal form theorem around N, in terms of a model structure over the normal bundle.
This paper is concerned with (transversally) Kähler foliations. We proved here that the holonomy pseudo-group's lie algebra is semi-simple unde negativity assumptions of the Ricci tensor.
Using the method of Witten deformation, we express the basic index of a transversal Dirac operator over a Riemannian foliation as the sum of integers associated to the critical leaf closures of a given foliated bundle map.
Topology of the Generic Hamiltonian Dynamical Systems on the Riemann Surfaces given by the real part of the generic holomorphic 1-forms, is studied. Our approach is based on the notion of Transversal Canonical Basis of Cycles (TCB). This approach allows us to present a convenient combinatorial model of the whole topology of the flow, especially effective for g=2. A maximal abelian covering over the Riemann Surface is needed here. The complete combinatorial model of the flow is constructed. It consists of the Plane Diagram and g straight line flows in the 2-tori ''with obstacles''. The Fundamen…
Let $(M,ω)$ be a symplectic manifold endowed with a agrangian foliation ${\cal L}$, it has been shown by Weinstein [16] hat the symplectic structure of $M$ defines on each leaf of ${\cal L}$, connection which curvature and torsion forms vanish identically. uppose that $L_0$ is a compact leaf which Weinstein connection is eodesically complete, Molino and Curras-Bosch [2] have classified erms of such lagrangian foliation around $L_0$. In this paper we xtend this classification without supposing the completness of he compact leaf. The Weinstein connection is dual to the Bott onnection, this enabl…
This is a survey on bi-Lagrangian manifolds, which are symplectic manifolds endowed with two transversal Lagrangian foliations. We also study the non-integrable case (i.e., a symplectic manifold endowed with two transversal Lagrangian distributions). We show that many different geometric structures can be attached to these manifolds and we carefully analyse the associated connections. Moreover, we introduce the problem of the intersection of two leaves, one of each foliation, through a point and show a lot of significative examples.
The paper starts with an interpretation of the complete lift of a Poisson structure from a manifold M to its tangent bundle TM by means of the Schouten- Nijenhuis bracket of covariant symmetric tensor fields defined by the co- tangent Lie algebroid of M. Then, we discuss Poisson structures of TM which have a graded restriction to the fiberwise polynomial algebra; they must be p-related (p is the projection of TM onto M) with a Poisson structure on M. Furthermore, we define transversal Poisson structures of a foliation, and discuss bivector fields of TM which produce graded brackets on the fibe…
Consider a parallel plane foliation on real finite-dimensional linear vector space. It induces a foliation on the torus obtained by factorization of the space by the integer lattice (let us denote the latter foliation by F). Let g be arbitrary metric on the torus. It induces a complex structure on each leaf of F such that all the leaves are parabolic: each individual leaf admits a conformal flat complete metric. We show that for any foliation F as above and arbitrary smooth metric g the correspondent complete conformal flat metric on the leaves, which is smooth on individual leaf, can be chose…
We study the equations governing rigid N=1 supersymmetry in five dimensions. If the supersymmetry spinor satisfies a reality condition, these are foliations admitting families of almost complex structures on the leaves. In other words, all these manifolds have families of almost Cauchy-Riemann (CR) structures. After deriving integrability conditions under which circumstances the almost CR structure defines a CR manifold or a transversally holomorphic foliation (THF), we discuss implications on localization. We also discuss potential global obstructions to the existence of solutions.
Manifolds endowed with three foliations pairwise transversal are known as 3-webs. Equivalently, they can be algebraically defined as biparacomplex or complex product manifolds, i.e., manifolds endowed with three tensor fields of type $(1,1)$, $F$, $P$ and $J=F \circ P$, where the two first are product and the third one is complex, and they mutually anti-commute. In this case, it is well known that there exists a unique torsion-free connection parallelizing the structure. In the present paper, we study connections attached to non-integrable almost biparacomplex manifolds.
This work is a spin-off of an on-going programme which aims at revisiting the original studies of Lie and Cartan on pseudogroups and geometric structures from a modern perspective. We encode geometric structures induced by transitive Lie pseudogroups into principal $G$-bundles equipped with a transversally parallelisable foliation generated by a subalgebra of $\mathfrak{g}$, called Cartan bundles. Our approach is complementary to arXiv:1911.13147 and is based on Morita equivalence of Lie groupoids. After identifying the main examples and properties, we develop a notion of flatness with respect…
A projective structure on a compact Riemann surface X of genus g is given by an atlas with transition functions in PGL(2,C). Equivalently, a projective structure is given by a projective sl(2,C)-bundle over X equipped with a section s and a foliation F which is both transversal to the fibers and the section s. From this latter geometric bundle picture, we survey on classical problems and results on projective structures. We will give a complete description of projective (actually affine) structures on the torus with an explicit versal family of foliated bundle picture.
