Simple classical mechanical systems and solution spaces of classical field theories involve singularities. In certain situations these singularities can be understood in terms of stratified Kaehler spaces. We give an overview of a research program whose aim is to develop a holomorphic quantization procedure on stratified Kaehler spaces.
In this article we give a universal model for geometric quantization associated to a real polarization given by an integrable system with non-degenerate singularities. This universal model goes one step further than the previous cotangent models by both considering singular orbits and adding to the cotangent models a model for the prequantum line bundle. These singularities are generic in the sense that are given by Morse-type functions and include elliptic, hyperbolic and focus-focus singularities. Examples of systems admitting such singularities are toric, semitoric and almost toric manifold…
On a compact Kähler manifold $X$, Toeplitz operators determine a deformation quantization $(\operatorname{C}^\infty(X, \mathbb{C})[[\hbar]], \star)$ with separation of variables [10] with respect to transversal complex polarizations $T^{1, 0}X, T^{0, 1}X$ as $\hbar \to 0^+$ [15]. The analogous statement is proved for compact symplectic manifolds with transversal non-singular real polarizations [13]. In this paper, we establish the analogous result for transversal singular real polarizations on compact toric symplectic manifolds $X$. Due to toric singularities, half-form correction and localiza…
This paper extends the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization of the spherical pendulum to a full quantum theory. This the first application of geometric quantization to a classical system with monodromy.
Determination of periodic orbits for a Hamiltonian system together with their semi-classical quantization has been a long standing problem. We consider here resonances for a $h$-Pseudo-Differential Operator $H(y,hD_y;h)$ induced by a periodic orbit of hyperbolic type at energy $E_0$. We generalize the framework of [GéSj], in the sense that we allow for both hyperbolic and elliptic eigenvalues of Poincaré map, and show that all resonances in $W=[E_0-\varepsilon_0,E_0+\varepsilon_0]-i]0,h^δ]$, $0<δ<1$, are given by a generalized Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule.
This paper extends the tools of C*-algebraic strict quantization toward analyzing the classical limits of unbounded quantities in quantum theories. We introduce the approach first in the simple case of finite systems. Then we apply this approach to analyze the classical limits of unbounded quantities in bosonic quantum field theories with particular attention to number operators and Hamiltonians. The methods take classical limits in a representation-independent manner and so allow one to compare quantities appearing in inequivalent Fock space representations.
Following Dirac, the rules of canonical quantization include classical and quantum contact transformations of classical and quantum phase space variables. While arbitrary classical canonical coordinate transformations exist that is not the case for some analogous quantum canonical coordinate transformations. This failure is due to the rigid connection of quantum variables arising by promoting the corresponding classical variable from a $c$-number to a $q$-number. A different relationship of $c$-numbers and $q$-numbers in the procedures of Enhanced Quantization shows the compatibility of all qu…
The classical time of arrival in the interacting case is quantized by way of quantizing its expansion about the free time of arrival. The quantization is formulated in coordinate representation which represents ordering rules in terms of two variable polynomial functions. This leads to representations of the quantized time of arrival operators as integral operators whose kernels are determined by the chosen ordering rule. The formulation lends itself to generalization which allows construction of time of arrival operators that cannot be obtained by direct quantization using particular ordering…
We present an explicit matrix algebra quantization of the algebra of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms of the $n$-torus. That is, we approximate the corresponding classical Nambu brackets using $\mathfrak{sl}(N^{\lceil\frac{n}{2}\rceil},\mathbb{C})$-matrices equipped with the finite bracket given by the completely anti-symmetrized matrix product, such that the classical brackets are retrieved in the $N\rightarrow \infty$ limit. We then apply this approximation to the super $4$-brane in $9$ dimensions and give a regularized action in analogy with the matrix quantization of the supermembrane. Th…
An ultralocal form of any classical field theory eliminates all spatial derivatives in its action functional, e.g., in its Hamiltonian functional density. It has been applied to covariant scalar field theories and even to Einstein's general relativity, by Pilati, as an initial term in a perturbation series that aimed to restore all omitted derivatives. Previously, the author has quantized ultralocal scalar fields by affine quantization to show that these non-renormalizanle theories can be correctly quantized by affine quantization; the story of such scalar models is discussed in this paper. Th…
I shortly describe semi-classical models of spinning electron and list a number of theoretical issues where these models turn out to be useful, see arXiv:1710.07135 for details. Then I discuss the possibility to extend the range of applicability of these models by introducing an interaction, that forces the spin to align up or down relative to its precession axis.
The algebraic properties of a strict deformation quantization are analysed on the classical phase space $\bR^{2n}$. The corresponding quantization maps enable us to take the limit for $\hbar \to 0$ of a suitable sequence of algebraic vector states induced by $\hbar$-dependent eigenvectors of several quantum models, in which the sequence converges to a probability measure on $\bR^{2n}$, defining a classical algebraic state. The observables are here represented in terms of a Berezin quantization map which associates classical observables (functions on the phase space) to quantum observables (ele…
