A model operator $H$ associated to a system of three-particles on the three dimensional lattice $\Z^3$ and interacting via pair non-local potentials is studied. The following results are proven: (i) the operator $H$ has infinitely many eigenvalues lying below the bottom of the essential spectrum and accumulating at this point, in the case, where both Friedrichs model operators $h_{μ_α}(0),α=1,2,$ have threshold resonances. (ii) the operator $H$ has a finite number of eigenvalues lying outside of the essential spectrum, in the case, where at least one of $h_{μ_α}(0), α=1,2,$ has a threshold eigenvalue.
We prove localization and probabilistic bounds on the minimum level spacing for the Anderson tight-binding model on the lattice in any dimension, with single-site potential having a discrete distribution taking N values, with N large.
This work is concerned with the Dirac points for the honeycomb lattice with impenetrable obstacles arranged periodically in a homogeneous medium. We consider both the Dirichlet and Neumann eigenvalue problems and prove the existence of Dirac points for both eigenvalue problems at crossing of the lower band surfaces as well as higher band surfaces. Furthermore, we perform quantitative analysis for the eigenvalues and the slopes of two conical dispersion surfaces near each Dirac point based on a combination of the layer potential technique and asymptotic analysis. It is shown that the eigenvalue…
We consider the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) on a periodic one-dimensional lattice of L sites. Using Bethe ansatz, we derive parametric formulas for the eigenvalues of its generator in the thermodynamic limit. This allows to study the curve delimiting the edge of the spectrum in the complex plane. A functional integration over the eigenstates leads to an expression for the density of eigenvalues in the bulk of the spectrum. The density vanishes with an exponent 2/5 close to the eigenvalue 0.
The Hamiltonian of a system of two quantum mechanical particles moving on the $d$-dimensional lattice $\Z^d$ and interacting via zero-range attractive pair potentials is considered. For the two-particle energy operator $H_μ(K),$ $K\in \T^d=(-π,π]^d$ -- the two-particle quasi-momentum, the existence of a unique positive eigenvalue $z(μ, K)$ above the upper edge of the essential spectrum of $H_μ(K)$ is proven and asymptotics for $z(μ, K)$ are found when $μ$ approaches to some $μ_0(K)$ and $K\to 0.$
We give a new proof of correlation estimates for arbitrary moments of the resolvent of random Schrödinger operators on the lattice that generalizes and extends the correlation estimate of Minami for the second moment. We apply this moment bound to obtain a new $n$-level Wegner-type estimate that measures eigenvalue correlations through an upper bound on the probability that a local Hamiltonian has at least $n$ eigenvalues in a given energy interval. Another consequence of the correlation estimates is that the results on the Poisson statistics of energy level spacing and the simplicity of the e…
We study the statistics of Dirichlet eigenvalues of the random Schrödinger operator $-ε^{-2}Δ^{(\text{d})}+ξ^{(ε)}(x)$, with $Δ^{(\text{d})}$ the discrete Laplacian on $\mathbb Z^d$ and $ξ^{(ε)}(x)$ uniformly bounded independent random variables, on sets of the form $D_ε:=\{x\in \mathbb Z^d\colon xε\in D\}$ for $D\subset \mathbb R^d$ bounded, open and with a smooth boundary. If $\mathbb Eξ^{(ε)}(x)=U(xε)$ holds for some bounded and continuous $U\colon D\to \mathbb R$, we show that, as $ε\downarrow0$, the $k$-th eigenvalue converges to the $k$-th Dirichlet eigenvalue of the homogenized operator…
We consider random Schrödinger operators with Dirichlet boundary conditions outside lattice approximations of a smooth Euclidean domain and study the behavior of its lowest-lying eigenvalues in the limit when the lattice spacing tends to zero. Under a suitable moment assumption on the random potential and regularity of the spatial dependence of its mean, we prove that the eigenvalues of the random operator converge to those of a deterministic Schrödinger operator. Assuming also regularity of the variance, the fluctuation of the random eigenvalues around their mean are shown to obey a multivari…
One of the difficulties associated with the scattering problems arising in connection with integrable systems is that they are frequently non-self-adjoint, making it difficult to determine where the spectrum lies. In this paper, we consider the problem of locating and counting the discrete eigenvalues associated with the scattering problem for which the sine-Gordon equation is the isospectral flow. In particular, suppose that we take an initially stationary pulse for the sine-Gordon equation, with a profile that has either one extremum point of height less than pi and topological charge 0, or …
The Hamiltonian of a system of three quantum mechanical particles moving on the three-dimensional lattice $\Z^3$ and interacting via zero-range attractive potentials is considered. For the two-particle energy operator $h(k),$ with $k\in \T^3=(-π,π]^3$ the two-particle quasi-momentum, the existence of a unique positive eigenvalue below the bottom of the continuous spectrum of $h(k)$ for $k\neq0$ is proven, provided that $h(0)$ has a zero energy resonance. The location of the essential and discrete spectra of the three-particle discrete Schrödinger operator $H(K), K\in \T^3$ being the three-part…
We consider the periodic Jacobi operator $J$ with finitely supported perturbations on the half-lattice. We describe all eigenvalues and resonances of $J$ and give their properties. We solve the inverse resonance problem: we prove that the mapping from finitely supported perturbations to the Jost functions is one-to-one and onto, we show how the Jost functions can be reconstructed from the eigenvalues, resonances and the set of zeros of $S(ł)-1,$ where $S(ł)$ is the scattering matrix.
We prove that certain natural random variables associated with the local eigenvalue statistics for generalized lattice Anderson models constructed with finite-rank perturbations are compound Poisson distributed. This distribution is characterized by the fact that the Levy measure is supported on at most a finite set determined by the rank. The proof relies on a Minami-type estimate for finite-rank perturbations. For Anderson-type continuum models on $\R^d$, we prove a similar result for certain natural random variables associated with the local eigenvalue statistics. We prove that the compound…
We give a rigorous deduction of the eigenvalue problem of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) at Dirac Points for potential of honeycomb lattice symmetry. Based on a bootstrap method, we observe the bifurcation of the eigenfunctions into eight distinct modes from the two-dimensional degenerated eigenspace of the regressive linear Schrödinger equation. We give the existence, the way of construction, uniqueness in $H^2$ space and the $C^\infty$ continuity of these eigenfunctions.
When an eigenvector of a semi-bounded operator is positive, we show that a remarkably simple argument allows to obtain upper and lower bounds for its associated eigenvalue. This theorem is a substantial generalization of Barta-like inequalities and can be applied to non-necessarily purely quadratic Hamiltonians. An application for a magnetic Hamiltonian is given and the case of a discrete Schrodinger operator is also discussed. It is shown how this approach leads to some explicit bounds on the ground-state energy of a system made of an arbitrary number of attractive Coulombian particles.
We consider the Stokes eigenvalue problem in a bounded domain of R3 with Dirich- let boundary conditions. The aim of this paper is to advance the development of high-order terms in the asymptotic expansions of the boundary perturbations of eigen- values, eigenfunctions and eigenpressures for the Stokes operator caused by small per- turbations of the boundary. Our derivation is rigorous and proved by layer potential techniques.
We investigate the robustness of singularity avoidance mechanisms in nonrelativistic quantum mechanics on the discretised real line when lattice points are allowed to approach a singularity of the classical potential. We consider the attractive Coulomb potential and the attractive scale invariant potential, on an equispaced parity-noninvariant lattice and on a non-equispaced parity-invariant lattice, and we examine the energy eigenvalues by a combination of analytic and numerical techniques. While the lowest one or two eigenvalues descend to negative infinity in the singular limit, we find tha…
The main objective of the present work is to study the negative spectrum of (differential) Laplace operators on metric graphs as well as their resolvents and associated heat semigroups. We prove an upper bound on the number of negative eigenvalues and a lower bound on the spectrum of Laplace operators. Also we provide a sufficient condition for the associated heat semigroup to be positivity preserving.
A lattice model of radiative decay (so-called spin-boson model) of a two level atom and at most two photons is considered. The location of the essential spectrum is described. For any coupling constant the finiteness of the number of eigenvalues below the bottom of its essential spectrum is proved. The results are obtained by considering a more general model $H$ for which the lower bound of its essential spectrum is estimated. Conditions which guarantee the finiteness of the number of eigenvalues of $H,$ below the bottom of its essential spectrum are found. It is shown that the discrete spectr…
We present the results of an analytical and numerical study of the long-time behavior for certain Fermi-Pasta-Ulam (FPU) lattices viewed as perturbations of the completely integrable Toda lattice. Our main tools are the direct and inverse scattering transforms for doubly-infinite Jacobi matrices, which are well-known to linearize the Toda flow. We focus in particular on the evolution of the associated scattering data under the perturbed vs. the unperturbed equations. We find that the eigenvalues present initially in the scattering data converge to new, slightly perturbed eigenvalues under the …
The powerful group theoretical formalism of potential algebras is extended to non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with real eigenvalues by complexifying so(2,1), thereby getting the complex algebra sl(2,\C) or $A_1$. This leads to new types of both PT-symmetric and non-PT-symmetric Hamiltonians.
Ruijsenaars-Schneider models associated with $A_{n-1}$ root system with a discrete coupling constant are studied. The eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian are givein in terms of the Bethe ansatz formulas. Taking the "non-relativistic" limit, we obtain the spectrum of the corresponding Calogero-Moser systems in the third formulas of Felder et al [20].
We study discretization effects of the Wilson and staggered Dirac operator with $N_{\rm c}>2$ using chiral random matrix theory (chRMT). We obtain analytical results for the joint probability density of Wilson-chRMT in terms of a determinantal expression over complex pairs of eigenvalues, and real eigenvalues corresponding to eigenvectors of positive or negative chirality as well as for the eigenvalue densities. The explicit dependence on the lattice spacing can be readily read off from our results which are compared to numerical simulations of Wilson-chRMT. For the staggered Dirac operator we…
We study eigenvalue spacings and local eigenvalue statistics for 1D lattice Schrodinger operators with Holder regular potential, obtaining a version of Minami's inequality and Poisson statistics for the local eigenvalue spacings. The main additional new input are regular properties of the Furstenberg measures and the density of states obtained in some of the author's earlier work.
The question of determining for which eigenvalues there exists an eigenfunction which has the same number of nodal domains as the label of the associated eigenvalue (Courant-sharp property) was motivated by the analysis of minimal spectral partitions. In previous works, many examples have been analyzed corresponding to squares, rectangles, disks, triangles, tori, Möbius strips,\ldots . A natural toy model for further investigations is the flat Klein bottle, a non-orientable surface with Euler characteristic $0$, and particularly the Klein bottle associated with the square torus, whose eigenval…
We consider a spectral problem associated with steady water waves of extreme form on the free surface of a rotational flow. It is proved that the spectrum of this problem contains arbitrary large negative eigenvalues and they are simple. Moreover, the asymptotics of such eigenvalues is obtained.
We show that the spacing between eigenvalues of the discrete 1D Hamiltonian with arbitrary potentials which are bounded, and with Dirichlet or Neumann Boundary Conditions is bounded away from zero. We prove an explicit lower bound, given by $Ce^{-bN}$, where $N$ is the lattice size, and $C$ and $b$ are some finite constants. In particular, the spectra of such Hamiltonians have no degenerate eigenvalues. As applications we show that to leading order in the coupling, the solution of a nonlinearly perturbed Anderson model in one-dimension (on the lattice) remains exponentially localized, in proba…
We introduce a spectral transform for the finite relativistic Toda lattice (RTL) in generalized form. In the nonrelativistic case, Moser constructed a spectral transform from the spectral theory of symmetric Jacobi matrices. Here we use a non-symmetric generalized eigenvalue problem for a pair of bidiagonal matrices (L,M) to define the spectral transform for the RTL. The inverse spectral transform is described in terms of a terminating T-fraction. The generalized eigenvalues are constants of motion and the auxiliary spectral data have explicit time evolution. Using the connection with the theo…
In previous work with Scullard, we defined a graph polynomial P_B(q,T) that gives access to the critical temperature T_c of the q-state Potts model on a general two-dimensional lattice L. It depends on a basis B, containing n x m unit cells of L, and the relevant root of P_B(q,T) was observed to converge quickly to T_c in the limit n,m to infinity. Moreover, in exactly solvable cases there is no finite-size dependence at all. We reformulate this method as an eigenvalue problem within the periodic Temperley-Lieb algebra. This corresponds to taking m to infinity first, so the bases B are semi-in…
We consider the adjacency matrix associated with a graph that describes transitions between $2^{N}$ states of the discrete Preisach memory model. This matrix can also be associated with the last-in-first-out inventory management rule. We present an explicit solution for the spectrum by showing that the characteristic polynomial is the product of Chebyshev polynomials. The eigenvalue distribution (density of states) is explicitly calculated and is shown to approach a scaled Devil's staircase. The eigenvectors of the adjacency matrix are also expressed analytically.
The discrete Toda lattice preserves the eigenvalues of tridiagonal matrices, and convergence of dependent variables to the eigenvalues can be proved under appropriate conditions. We show that the ultradiscrete Toda lattice preserves invariant factors of a certain bidiagonal matrix over a principal ideal domain, and prove convergence of dependent variables to invariant factors using properties of box and ball system. Using this fact, we present a new method for computing the Smith normal form of a given matrix.
In this paper we consider a random potential derived from the Brownian motion. We obtain upper and lower bounds for the expected value of the main eigenvalue of the associated Ruelle operator and for its quenched topological pressure. We also exhibit an isomorphism between the space $C(Ω)$ endowed with its standard norm and a proper closed subspace of the Skorokhod space which is used to obtain a stochastic functional equation for the main eigenvalue and for its associated eigenfunction.
We consider the spectrum of the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process on a periodic lattice of $L$ sites. The first eigenstates have an eigenvalue with real part scaling as $L^{-3/2}$ for large $L$ with finite density of particles. Bethe ansatz shows that these eigenstates are characterized by four finite sets of positive half-integers, or equivalently by two integer partitions. Each corresponding eigenvalue is found to be equal to the value at its saddle point of a function indexed by the four sets. Our derivation of the large $L$ asymptotics relies on a version of the Euler-Maclaurin f…
We consider matrices formed by a random $N\times N$ matrix drawn from the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble (or Gaussian Unitary Ensemble) plus a rank-one perturbation of strength $θ$, and focus on the largest eigenvalue, $x$, and the component, $u$, of the corresponding eigenvector in the direction associated to the rank-one perturbation. We obtain the large deviation principle governing the atypical joint fluctuations of $x$ and $u$. Interestingly, for $θ>1$, in large deviations characterized by a small value of $u$, i.e. $u<1-1/θ$, the second-largest eigenvalue pops out from the Wigner semi-circ…
We find the lattice spacing dependence of the eigenvalue density of the non-Hermitian Wilson Dirac operator in the $ε$-domain. The starting point is the joint probability density of the corresponding random matrix theory. In addition to the density of the complex eigenvalues we also obtain the density of the real eigenvalues separately for positive and negative chiralities as well as an explicit analytical expression for the number of additional real modes.
We report on the exact treatment of a random-matrix representation of bond percolation model on a square lattice in two dimensions with occupation probability $p$. The percolation problem is mapped onto a random complex matrix composed of two random real-valued matrices of elements $+1$ and $-1$ with probability $p$ and $1-p$, respectively. We find that the onset of percolation transition can be detected by the emergence of power-law divergences due to the coalescence of the first two extreme eigenvalues in the thermodynamic limit. We develop a universal finite-size scaling law that fully char…
