A 1D Dirac tight-binding model is considered and it is shown that its nonrelativistic limit is the 1D discrete Schr?odinger model. For random Bernoulli potentials taking two values (without correlations), for typical realizations and for all values of the mass, it is shown that its spectrum is pure point, whereas the zero mass case presents dynamical delocalization for specific values of the energy. The massive case presents dynamical localization (excluding some particular values of the energy). Finally, for general potentials the dynamical moments for distinct masses are compared, especially the massless and massive Bernoulli cases.
An 1D tight-binding version of the Dirac equation is considered; after checking that it recovers the usual discrete Schr?odinger equation in the nonrelativistic limit, it is found that for two-valued Bernoulli potentials the zero mass case presents absence of dynamical localization for specific values of the energy, albeit it has no continuous spectrum. For the other energy values (again excluding some very specific ones) the Bernoulli Dirac system is localized, independently of the mass.
We consider the multi-particle Anderson model on the lattice with infinite range but sub-exponentially decaying interaction and show the Anderson localization consisting of the spectral exponential and the strong dynamical localization. In particular, the dynamical localization is proved int he Hilbert-Schmidt norm. The results concern very singular probability distributions such as the Bernoulli's measures.
As was noted already by A. N. Kolmogorov, any random variable has a Bernoulli component. This observation provides a tool for the extension of results which are known for Bernoulli random variables to arbitrary distributions. Two applications are provided here: i. an anti-concentration bound for a class of functions of independent random variables, where probabilistic bounds are extracted from combinatorial results, and ii. a proof, based on the Bernoulli case, of spectral localization for random Schroedinger operators with arbitrary probability distributions for the single site coupling const…
We use scattering theoretic methods to prove strong dynamical and exponential localization for one dimensional, continuum, Anderson-type models with singular distributions; in particular the case of a Bernoulli distribution is covered. The operators we consider model alloys composed of at least two distinct types of randomly dispersed atoms. Our main tools are the reflection and transmission coefficients for compactly supported single site perturbations of a periodic background which we use to verify the necessary hypotheses of multi-scale analysis. We show that non-reflectionless single sites…
We consider the Anderson model at large disorder on $\mathbb{Z}^2$ where the potential has a symmetric Bernoulli distribution. We prove that Anderson localization happens outside a small neighborhood of finitely many energies. These finitely many energies are Dirichlet eigenvalues of the minus Laplacian restricted on some finite subsets of $\mathbb{Z}^{2}$.
We consider the Anderson model with Bernoulli potential on the 3D lattice, and prove localization of eigenfunctions corresponding to eigenvalues near zero, the lower boundary of the spectrum. We follow the framework by Bourgain-Kenig and Ding-Smart, and our main contribution is a 3D discrete unique continuation, which says that any eigenfunction of the harmonic operator with bounded potential cannot be too small on a significant fractional portion of all the points. Its proof relies on geometric arguments about the 3D lattice.
Following [7,8], we analyze regularity properties of single-site probability distributions of the random potential and of the Integrated Density of States (IDS) in the Anderson models with infinite-range interactions and arbitrary nontrivial probability distributions of the site potentials. In the present work, we study $2$-particle Anderson Hamiltonians on a lattice and prove spectral and strong dynamical localization at low energies, with exponentially decaying eigenfunctions, for a class of site potentials featuring a power-law decay.
We consider two-dimensional massless Dirac operators in a radially symmetric electromagnetic field. In this case the fields may be described by one-dimensional electric and magnetic potentials $V$ and $A$. We show dynamical localization in the regime when $\displaystyle\lim_{r\to\infty}|V|/|A |<1$, where dense point spectrum occurs.
Quantum dynamical lower bounds for continuous and discrete one-dimensional Dirac operators are established in terms of transfer matrices. Then such results are applied to various models, including the Bernoulli-Dirac one and, in contrast to the discrete case, critical energies are also found for the continuous Dirac case with positive mass.
Under the weak interaction regime, we prove the one and the two volumes Wegner type bounds for one dimensional multi-particle models on the lattice and for very singular probability distribution functions such as the Bernoulli measures. The results imply the Anderson loclalization in both the spectral exponential and the strong dynamical localization for the one dimensional multi-particle Bernoulli-Anderson model with weak interaction.
In this paper we study random perturbations of first order elliptic operators with periodic potentials. We are mostly interested in Hamiltonians modeling graphene antidot lattices with impurities. The unperturbed operator $H_0 := D_S + V_0$ is the sum of a Dirac-like operator $D_S$ plus a periodic matrix valued potential $V_0$, and is assumed to have an open gap. The random potential $V_ω$ is of Anderson-type with independent, identically distributed coupling constants and moving centers, with absolutely continuous probability distributions. We prove band edge localization, namely that there e…
We prove the Wegner bounds for the one-dimensional interacting multi-particle Anderson models in the continuum. The results apply to singular probability distribution functions such as the Bernoulli's measures. The proofs need the amplitude of the inter-particle interaction potential to be sufficiently weak. As a consequence, the results imply the Anderson localization via the multi-scale analysis.
We consider a two-dimensional massless Dirac operator $H$ in the presence of a perturbed homogeneous magnetic field $B=B_0+b$ and a scalar electric potential $V$. For $V\in L_{\rm loc}^p(\R^2)$, $p\in(2,\infty]$, and $b\in L_{\rm loc}^q(\R^2)$, $q\in(1,\infty]$, both decaying at infinity, we show that states in the discrete spectrum of $H$ are superexponentially localized. We establish the existence of such states between the zeroth and the first Landau level assuming that V=0. In addition, under the condition that $b$ is rotationally symmetric and that $V$ satisfies certain analyticity condit…
We prove that once one has the ingredients of a ``single-energy multiscale analysis (MSA) result'' on the $\mathbb{Z}^d$ lattice, several spectral and dynamical localization results can be derived, the most prominent being strong dynamical localization (SDL). In particular, given the recent progress at the bottom of the spectrum for the $\mathbb{Z}^2$ and $\mathbb{Z}^3$ cases with Bernoulli single site probability distribution, our results imply SDL in these regimes.
The proof of Anderson localization for the 1D Anderson model with arbitrary (e.g. Bernoulli) disorder, originally given by Carmona-Klein-Martinelli in 1987, is based in part on the multi-scale analysis. Later, in the 90s, it was realized that for one-dimensional models with positive Lyapunov exponents some parts of multi-scale analysis can be replaced by considerations involving subharmonicity and large deviation estimates for the corresponding cocycle, leading to nonperturbative proofs for 1D quasiperiodic models. In this paper we present a short proof along these lines, for the Anderson mode…
This note aims to give prominence to some new results on the absence and localization of eigenvalues for the Dirac and Klein-Gordon operators, starting from known resolvent estimates already established in the literature combined with the renowned Birman-Schwinger principle.
A semiclassical argument is used to show that the low-lying spectrum of a selfadjoint operator, the so-called spectral localizer, determines the number of Dirac or Weyl points of an ideal semimetal. Apart from the IMS localization procedure, an explicit computation for the local toy models given by a Dirac or Weyl point is the key element of proof. The argument has numerous similarities to Witten's reasoning leading to the strong Morse inequalities. The same techniques allow to prove a spectral localization for the Callias operator in terms of a multi-parameter spectral flow of selfadjoint Fre…
We prove that, for a density of disorder $ρ$ small enough, a certain class of discrete random Schrödinger operators on $\Z^d$ with diluted potentials exhibits a Lifschitz behaviour from the bottom of the spectrum up to energies at a distance of the order $ρ^α$ from the bottom of the spectrum, with $α>2(d+1)/d$. This leads to localization for the energies in this zone for these low density models. The same results hold for operators on the continuous, and in particular, with Bernoulli or Poisson random potential.
The connection between the Dirac field as the field of matter and the spacetime metric is discussed within the framework of classical field theory. Polarization structure of the Dirac field is shown to be rich enough to determine the spacetime metric locally and to explain the emergence of observed matter as localized waveforms. The localization of the waveforms is explained as the result of the local time slowdown and the Lorentz contraction as a dynamic re-shaping of the waveforms in the course of their acceleration. A definition of mass as a limiting curvature of the spinor-induced metric i…
We discuss new results on the geometry of eigenfunctions in disor- dered systems. More precisely, we study tori $R^d/LZ^d$, $d=2,3$, with uniformly distributed Dirac masses. Whereas at the bottom of the spectrum eigenfunctions are known to be localized, we show that for sufficiently large eigenvalue there exist uniformly distributed eigenfunctions with positive probability. We also study the limit $L\to\infty$ with a positive density of random Dirac masses, and deduce a lower polynomial bound for the localization length in terms of the eigenvalue for Poisson distributed Dirac masses on $R^d$ .…
We establish spectral and dynamical localization for several Anderson models on metric and discrete radial trees. The localization results are obtained on compact intervals contained in the complement of discrete sets of exceptional energies. All results are proved under the minimal hypothesis on the type of disorder: the random variables generating the trees assume at least two distinct values. This level of generality, in particular, allows us to treat radial trees with disordered geometry as well as Schrödinger operators with Bernoulli-type singular potentials. Our methods are based on an i…
This article is one of a series of papers. For this decade, the Dirac operator on a submanifold has been studied as a restriction of the Dirac operator in $n$-dimensional euclidean space $\EE^n$ to a surface or a space curve as physical models. These Dirac operators are identified with operators of the Frenet-Serret relation for a space curve case and of the generalized Weierstrass relation for a conformal surface case and completely represent the submanifolds. For example, the analytic index of Dirac operator of a space curve is identified with its writhing number. As another example, the ope…
We call attention to the unusual properties that the 4 dimensional solutions for a modified Fueter-Dirac equations satisfy: In a coordinate-free, constant-free and strictly mathematical way it is possible to show that all the solutions for a modified Fueter-Dirac Equation, which are radial symmetric when restricted to the 3-space, have a nice algebraic structure. Locally, these solutions behave naturally in a algebraic way determined by a certain commutative ring related to the quaternions with non-invertibles. This ring has a nontrivial localization. By using left and right versions of the op…
We consider disordered Hamiltonians given by the Laplace operator subject to arbitrary random self-adjoint singular perturbations supported on random discrete subsets of the real line. Under minimal assumptions on the type of disorder, we prove the following dichotomy: Either every realization of the random operator has purely absolutely continuous spectrum or spectral and exponential dynamical localization hold. In particular, we establish Anderson localization for Schrödinger operators with Bernoulli-type random singular potential and singular density.
We study the spectrum and dynamics of a one-dimensional discrete Dirac operator in a random potential obtained by damping an i.i.d. environment with an envelope of type $n^{-α}$ for $α>0$. We recover all the spectral regimes previously obtained for the analogue Anderson model in a random decaying potential, namely: absolutely continuous spectrum in the super-critical region $α>\frac12$; a transition from pure point to singular continuous spectrum in the critical region $α=\frac12$; and pure point spectrum in the sub-critical region $α<\frac12$. From the dynamical point of view, delocalization …
We study the localization of eigenfunctions produced by a point scatterer on a thin rectangle. We find an explicit set of eigenfunctions localized to part of the rectangle by showing that the one-dimensional Schrödinger operator with a Dirac delta potential asymptotically governs the spectral properties of the two-dimensional point scatterer. We also find the rate of localization in terms of the aspect ratio of the rectangle. In addition, we present numerical results regarding the asymptotic behavior of the localization.
Let $\mathcal{L}$ be a fixed $d$-dimensional lattice. We study the localization properties of solutions of the stationary Schrödinger equation with a positive $L^\infty$ potential on tori $\mathbb{R}^d/L\mathcal{L}$ in the limit, as $L\to\infty$, for dimension $d \leq 3$. We show that the probability measures associated with $L^2$-normalized solutions, with eigenvalue $E$ near the bottom of the spectrum, satisfy an algebraic delocalization theorem which states that these probability measures cannot be localized inside a ball of radius $r = o(E^{-1/4+ε})$, unless localization occurs with a suff…
