The complex Minkowski phase space has the physical interpretation of the phase space of the scalar massive conformal particle. The aim of the paper is the construction and investigation of the quantum complex Minkowski space.
Symmetric ordering and Weyl realizations for non commutative quantum Minkowski spaces are reviewed. Weyl realizations of Lie deformed spaces and corresponding star products, as well as twist corresponding to Weyl realization and coproduct of momenta are presented. Drinfeld twists understood in Hopf algebroid sense are also discussed. A few examples of corresponding Weyl realizations are given. We show that for the original Snyder space there exists symmetric ordering, but no Weyl realization. Quadratic deformations of Minkowski space are considered and it is demonstrated that symmetric orderin…
We recast the Podles spheres in the noncommutative physics context by showing that they can be regarded as slices along the time coordinate of the different regions of the quantum Minkowski space-time. The investigation of the transformations of the quantum sphere states under the left coaction of the ${\cal SO}_{q}(3)$ group leads to a decomposition of the transformed Hilbert space states in terms of orthogonal subspaces exhibiting the periodicity of the quantum sphere states.
We give a quantum deformation of the chiral super Minkowski space in four dimensions as the big cell inside a quantum super Grassmannian. The quantization is performed in such way that the actions of the Poincaré and conformal quantum supergroups on the quantum Minkowski and quantum conformal superspaces are presented.
We define complex Minkowski superspace in 4 dimensions as the big cell inside a complex flag supermanifold. The complex conformal supergroup acts naturally on this super flag, allowing us to interpret it as the conformal compactification of complex Minkowski superspace. We then consider real Minkowski superspace as a suitable real form of the complex version. Our methods are group theoretic, based on the real conformal supergroup and its Lie superalgebra.
We consider the $\varrho$-Minkowski spacetime, a model with linear noncommutativity involving the time and the azimuthal angle. We study its quantum symmetries, the $\varrho$-Poincaré quantum group, and analyse the concepts of localizability and quantum observers.
Quantum inequalities have been established for various quantum fields in both flat and curved spacetimes. In particular, for spin-3/2 fields, Yu and Wu have explicitly derived quantum inequalities for massive case. Employing the similar method developed by Fewster and colleagues, this paper provides an explicit formula of quantum inequalities for massless spin-3/2 field in four-dimensional Minkowski spacetime.
The quantum-mechanical problems of a nonrelativistic free particle, a harmonic oscillator and a Coulomb particle on Minkowski plane are discussed. The Schrödinger equations for eigenvalues are obtained using the Beltrami-Laplas operator of the pseudo-Euclidean plane and the corresponding potentials. It is shown that, in contrast to the standard problem on Euclidean plane, in addition to the continuous spectrum, a free particle has a discrete energy levels and a Coulomb particle, in addition to the discrete spectrum, has unstable states that describe the incidence of a particle on isotropic lin…
We consider new Abelian twists of Poincare algebra describing non-symmetric generalization of the ones given in [1], which lead to the class of Lie-deformed quantum Minkowski spaces. We apply corresponding twist quantization in two ways: as generating quantum Poincare-Hopf algebra providing quantum Poincare symmetries, and by considering the quantization which provides Hopf algebroid describing the class of quantum relativistic phase spaces with built-in quantum Poincare covariance. If we assume that Lorentz generators are orbital i.e.do not describe spin degrees of freedom, one can embed the …
A sketch of an approach towards Lorentzian spectral geometry (based on joint work with Mario Paschke) is described, together with a general way to define abstractly the quantized Dirac field on such Lorentzian spectral geometries. Moyal-Minkowski spacetime serves as an example. The scattering of the quantized Dirac field by a non-commutative (Moyal-deformed) action of an external scalar potential is investigated. It is shown that differentiating the S-matrix with respect to the strength of the scattering potential gives rise to quantum field operators depending on elements of the non-commutati…
Within the setting of a recently proposed model of quantum fields on noncommutative Minkowski spacetime, the consequences of the consistent application of the proper, untwisted Poincare group as the symmetry group are investigated. The emergent model contains an infinite family of fields which are labelled by different noncommutativity parameters, and related to each other by Lorentz transformations. The relative localization properties of these fields are investigated, and it is shown that to each field one can assign a wedge-shaped localization region of Minkowski space. This assignment is c…
The $κ$-Minkoswki space-time provides a quantum noncommutative-deformation of the usual Minkowski space-time. However, a notion of causality is difficult to be defined in such a space with noncommutative time. In this paper, we define a notion of causality on a (1+1)-dimensional $κ$-Minkoswki space-time using the more general framework of Lorentzian noncommutative geometry. We show that this notion allows specific causal relations, but limited by a general constraint which is a quantum generalization of the traditional speed of light limit.
The dissertation presents possibilities of applying noncommutative spacetimes description, particularly kappa-deformed Minkowski spacetime and Drinfeld's deformation theory, as a mathematical formalism for Doubly Special Relativity theories (DSR), which are thought as phenomenological limit of quantum gravity theory. Deformed relativistic symmetries are described within Hopf algebra language. In the case of (quantum) kappa-Minkowski spacetime the symmetry group is described by the (quantum) kappa-Poincare Hopf algebra. Deformed relativistic symmetries were used to construct the DSR algebra, wh…
The maximal symmetry of a quantum system with Heisenberg commutation relations is given by the projective representations of the automorphism group of the Weyl-Heisenberg algebra. The automorphism group is the central extension of the inhomogeneous symplectic group with a conformal scaling that acts on extended phase space. We determine the subgroup that also leaves invariant a degenerate orthogonal Minkowski line element. This defines noninertial relativistic symmetry transformations that have the expected classical limit as c becomes infinite.
Treating the two-dimensional Minkowski space as a Wick rotated version of the complex plane, we characterize the causal automorphisms in two-dimensional Minkowski space as the Märzke-Wheeler maps of a certain class of observers. We also characterize the differentiable causal automorphisms of this space as the Minkowski conformal maps whose restriction to the time axis belongs to the class of observers mentioned above. We answer a recently raised question about whether causal automorphisms are characterized by their wave equation. As another application of the theory, we give a proper time form…
In this paper we shall re-visit the well-known Schrödinger and Lindblad dynamics of quantum mechanics. However, these equations may be realized as the consequence of a more general, underlying dynamical process. In both cases we shall see that the evolution of a quantum state $P_ψ=\varrho(0)$ has the not so well-known pseudo-quadratic form $\partial_t\varrho(t)=\mathbf{V}^\star\varrho(t)\mathbf{V}$ where $\mathbf{V}$ is a vector operator in a complex Minkowski space and the pseudo-adjoint $\mathbf{V}^\star$ is induced by the Minkowski metric $\boldsymbolη$. The interesting thing about this for…
Some classes of Deformed Special Relativity (DSR) theories are reconsidered within the Hopf algebraic formulation. For this purpose we shall explore a minimal framework of deformed Weyl-Heisenberg algebras provided by a smash product construction of DSR algebra. It is proved that this DSR algebra, which uniquely unifies $κ$-Minkowski spacetime coordinates with Poincaré generators, can be obtained by nonlinear change of generators from undeformed one. Its various realizations in terms of the standard (undeformed) Weyl-Heisenberg algebra opens the way for quantum mechanical interpretation of DSR…
Integrable systems are derived from inelastic flows of timelike, spacelike, and null curves in 2- and 3- dimensional Minkowski space. The derivation uses a Lorentzian version of a geometrical moving frame method which is known to yield the modified Korteveg-de Vries (mKdV) equation and the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation in 2- and 3- dimensional Euclidean space, respectively. In 2-dimensional Minkowski space, timelike/spacelike inelastic curve flows are shown to yield the defocusing mKdV equation and its bi-Hamiltonian integrability structure, while inelastic null curve flows are shown to…
We revisit the notion of quantum Lie algebra of symmetries of a noncommutative spacetime, its elements are shown to be the generators of infinitesimal transformations and are naturally identified with physical observables. Wave equations on noncommutative spaces are derived from a quantum Hodge star operator. This general noncommutative geometry construction is then exemplified in the case of k-Minkowski spacetime. The corresponding quantum Poincare'-Weyl Lie algebra of infinitesimal translations, rotations and dilatations is obtained. The d'Alembert wave operator coincides with the quadratic …
We establish duality between real forms of the quantum deformation of the 4-dimensional orthogonal group studied by Fioresi et al. and the classification work made by Borowiec et al.. Classically these real forms are the isometry groups of $\mathbb{R}^4$ equipped with Euclidean, Kleinian or Lorentzian metric. A general deformation, named $q$-linked, of each of these spaces is then constructed, together with the coaction of the corresponding isometry group.
We consider a gauge theory on the 5-d $κ$-Minkowski which can be viewed as the noncommutative analog of a $U(1)$ gauge theory. We show that the Hermiticity condition obeyed by the gauge potential $A_μ$ is necessarily twisted. Performing a BRST gauge-fixing with a Lorentz-type gauge, we carry out a first exploration of the one loop quantum properties of this gauge theory. We find that the gauge-fixed theory gives rise to a non-vanishing tadpole for the time component of the gauge potential, while there is no non-vanishing tadpole 1-point function for the spatial components of $A_μ$. This signal…
We compare two versions of deformed dispersion relations (energy vs momenta and momenta vs energy) and the corresponding time delay up to the second order accuracy in the quantum gravity scale (deformation parameter). A general framework describing modified dispersion relations and time delay with respect to different noncommutative kappa -Minkowski spacetime realizations is firstly proposed here and it covers all the cases introduced in the literature. It is shown that some of the realizations provide certain bounds on quadratic corrections, i.e. on quantum gravity scale, but it is not exclud…
The complete classification of classical $r$-matrices generating quantum deformations of the (3+1)-dimensional (A)dS and Poincaré groups such that their Lorentz sector is a quantum subgroup is presented. It is found that there exists three classes of such $r$-matrices, one of them being a novel two-parametric one. The (A)dS and Minkowskian Poisson homogeneous spaces corresponding to these three deformations are explicitly constructed in both local and ambient coordinates. Their quantization is performed, thus giving rise to the associated noncommutative spacetimes, that in the Minkowski case a…
We present a scheme of biquaternionic algebrodymamics based on a nonlinear generalization of the Cauchy-Riemann holomorphy conditions considered therein as fundamental field equations. The automorphism group SO(3,C) of the biquaternion algebra acts as a proper Lorentz group on a real space whose coordinates are bilinear in the complex coordinates of biquaternionic vector space. A new invariant of Lorentz transformations then arises - the geometric phase. This invariant can be responsible for the quantum properties of particles associated in this approach with field singularities. Some new noti…
We consider the following trace function on n-tuples of positive operators: Φ_p(A_1,A_2,...,A_n) = Trace (\sum_{j=1}^n A_j^p)^{1/p} and prove that it is jointly concave for 0<p\le 1 and convex for p=2. We then derive from this a Minkowski type inequality for operators on a tensor product of three Hilbert spaces, and show how this implies the strong subadditivity of quantum mechanical entropy. For p>2, Φ_p is neither convex nor concave. We conjecture that Φ_p is convex for 1<p<2, but our methods do not show this.
Using the methods of ordinary quantum mechanics we study $κ$-Minkowski space as a quantum space described by noncommuting self-adjoint operators, following and enlarging arXiv:1811.08409. We see how the role of Fourier transforms is played in this case by Mellin transforms. We briefly discuss the role of transformations and observers.
We introduce an analog of the Maxwell operator on a q-Minkowski space algebra (treated as a particular case of the so-called Reflection Equation Algebra) and on certain of its quotients. We treat the space of "quantum differential forms" as a projective module in the spirit of the Serre-Swan approach. Also, we use "braided tangent vector fields" which are q-analogs of Poisson vector fields associated to the Lie bracket sl(2).
Fully Poincaré covariant quantum field theories on non-commutative Moyal Minkowski spacetime so far have been considered in their vacuum representations, i.e. at zero temperature. Here we report on work in progress regarding their thermal representations, corresponding to physical states at non-zero temperature, which turn out to be markedly different from both, thermal representations of quantum field theory on commutative Minkowski spacetime, and such representations of non-covariant quantum field theory on Moyal Minkowski space with a fixed deformation matrix.
We consider the wave equation on asymptotically Minkowski spacetimes and the Klein-Gordon equation on even asymptotically de Sitter spaces. In both cases we show that the extreme difference of propagators (i.e. retarded propagator minus advanced, or Feynman minus anti-Feynman), defined as Fredholm inverses, induces a symplectic form on the space of solutions with wave front set confined to the radial sets. Furthermore, we construct isomorphisms between the solution spaces and symplectic spaces of asymptotic data. As an application of this result we obtain distinguished Hadamard two-point funct…
We propose a new deformed Rieffel product for functions in de Sitter spacetime, and study the resulting deformation of quantum field theory in de Sitter using warped convolutions. This deformation is obtained by embedding de Sitter in a higher-dimensional Minkowski spacetime, deforming there using the action of translations and subsequently projecting back to de Sitter. We determine the two-point function of a deformed free scalar quantum field, which differs from the undeformed one, in contrast to the results in deformed Minkowski spacetime where they coincide. Nevertheless, we show that in t…
Several related operator-algebraic constructions for quantum field theory models on Minkowski spacetime are reviewed. The common theme of these constructions is that of a Borchers triple, capturing the structure of observables localized in a Rindler wedge. After reviewing the abstract setting, we discuss in this framework i) the construction of free field theories from standard pairs, ii) the inverse scattering construction of integrable QFT models on two-dimensional Minkowski space, and iii) the warped convolution deformation of QFT models in arbitrary dimension, inspired from non-commutative…
In this article we develop energy methods for a large class of linear and nonlinear Dirac-type equations in two-dimensional Minkowski space. We will derive existence results for several Dirac-type equations originating in quantum field theory, in particular for Dirac-wave maps to compact Riemannian manifolds.
We revise the use of 8-dimensional conformal, complex (Cartan) domains as a base for the construction of conformally invariant quantum (field) theory, either as phase or configuration spaces. We follow a gauge-invariant Lagrangian approach (of nonlinear sigma-model type) and use a generalized Dirac method for the quantization of constrained systems, which resembles in some aspects the standard approach to quantizing coadjoint orbits of a group G. Physical wave functions, Haar measures, orthonormal basis and reproducing (Bergman) kernels are explicitly calculated in and holomorphic picture in t…
The theory of complex dimensions of fractal strings developed by Lapidus and van Frankenhuijsen has proven to be a powerful tool for the study of Minkowski measurability of fractal subsets of the real line. In a very general setting, the Minkowski measurability of such sets is characterized by the structure of corresponding complex dimensions. Also, this tool is particularly effective in the setting of self-similar fractal subsets of $\mathbb{R}$ which have been shown to be Minkowski measurable if and only if they are nonlattice. This paper features a survey on the pertinent results of Lapidus…
We revisit and prove some convexity inequalities for trace functions conjectured in the earlier part I. The main functional considered is Φ_{p,q}(A_1,A_2,...,A_m) = (trace((\sum_{j=1}^m A_j^p)^{q/p}))^{1/q} for m positive definite operators A_j. In part I we only considered the case q=1 and proved the concavity of Φ_{p,1} for 0 < p \leq 1 and the convexity for p=2. We conjectured the convexity of Φ_{p,1} for 1< p < 2. Here we not only settle the unresolved case of joint convexity for 1 \leq p \leq 2, we are also able to include the parameter q\geq 1 and still retain the convexity. Among other …
This article describes the theoretical foundation of and explicit algorithms for a novel approach to morphology and anisotropy analysis of complex spatial structure using tensor-valued Minkowski functionals, the so-called Minkowski tensors. Minkowski tensors are generalisations of the well-known scalar Minkowski functionals and are explicitly sensitive to anisotropic aspects of morphology, relevant for example for elastic moduli or permeability of microstructured materials. Here we derive explicit linear-time algorithms to compute these tensorial measures for three-dimensional shapes. These ap…
We study the Lie bialgebra structures that can be built on the one-dimensional central extension of the Poincaré and (A)dS algebras in (1+1) dimensions. These central extensions admit more than one interpretation, but the simplest one is that they describe the symmetries of (the noncommutative deformation of) an Abelian gauge theory, $U(1)$ or $SO(2)$ on the (1+1) dimensional Minkowski or (A)dS spacetime. We show that this highlights the possibility that the algebra of functions on the gauge bundle becomes noncommutative. This is a new way in which the Coleman-Mandula theorem could be circumve…
