Some aspects of adelic generalized functions, as linear continuous functionals on the space of Schwartz-Bruhat functions, are considered. The importance of adelic generalized functions in adelic quantum mechanics is demonstrated. In particular, adelic product formula for Gauss integrals is derived, and the connection between the functional relation for the Riemann zeta function and quantum states of the harmonic oscillator is stated.
Using the Weyl quantization we formulate one-dimensional adelic quantum mechanics, which unifies and treats ordinary and $p$-adic quantum mechanics on an equal footing. As an illustration the corresponding harmonic oscillator is considered. It is a simple, exact and instructive adelic model. Eigenstates are Schwartz-Bruhat functions. The Mellin transform of a simplest vacuum state leads to the well known functional relation for the Riemann zeta function. Some expectation values are calculated. The existence of adelic matter at very high energies is suggested.
A motivation of using noncommutative and nonarchimedean geometry on very short distances is given. Besides some mathematical preliminaries, we give a short introduction in adelic quantum mechanics. We also recall to basic ideas and tools embedded in q-deformed and noncommutative quantum mechanics. A rather fundamental approach, called deformation quantization, is noted. A few relations between noncommutativity and nonarchimedean spaces as well as similarities between corresponding quantum theories on them are pointed out. An extended Moyal product in a proposed form of adelic noncommutative qu…
Feynman's path integral in adelic quantum mechanics is considered. The propagator K(x'',t'';x',t') for one-dimensional adelic systems with quadratic Lagrangians is analytically evaluated. Obtained exact general formula has the form which is invariant under interchange of the number fields R and Q_p.
We consider spectral problem for a free relativistic particle in p-adic and adelic quantum mechanics. In particular, we found p-adic and adelic eigenfunctions. Within adelic approach there exist quantum states that exhibit discrete structure of spacetime at the Planck scale.
The classical and quantum formalism for a p-adic and adelic harmonic oscillator with time-dependent frequency is developed, and general formulae for main theoretical quantities are obtained. In particular, the p-adic propagator is calculated, and the existence of a simple vacuum state as well as adelic quantum dynamics is shown. Space discreteness and p-adic quantum-mechanical phase are noted.
Feynman's path integrals in ordinary, p-adic and adelic quantum mechanics are considered. The corresponding probability amplitudes $ K(x^{"},t^{"};x',t')$ for two-dimensional systems with quadratic Lagrangians are evaluated analytically and obtained expressions are generalized to any finite-dimensional spaces. These general formulas are presented in the form which is invariant under interchange of the number fields ${\mathbb R} \leftrightarrow {\mathbb Q}_p$ and ${\mathbb Q}_p \leftrightarrow {\mathbb Q}_{p'} \, ,\, p\neq p'$. According to this invariance we have that adelic path integral is a…
p-Adic and adelic generalization of ordinary quantum cosmology is considered. In [1], we have calculated p-adic wave functions for some minisuperspace cosmological models according to the "no-boundary" Hartle-Hawking proposal. In this article, applying p-adic and adelic quantum mechanics, we show existence of the corresponding vacuum eigenstates. Adelic wave function contains some information on discrete structure of space-time at the Planck scale.
A brief review of p-adic and adelic cosmology is presented. In particular, p-adic and adelic aspects of gravity, classical cosmology, quantum mechanics, quantum cosmology and the wave function of the universe are considered. p-Adic worlds made of p-adic matters, which are different from real world of ordinary matter, are introduced. Real world and p-adic worlds make the universe as a whole. p-Adic origin of the dark energy and dark matter are proposed and discussed.
We consider a deformation of the two-dimensional free scalar field theory by raising the Laplacian to a positive real power. It turns out that the resulting non-local generalized free action is invariant under two commuting actions of the global conformal symmetry algebra, although it is no longer invariant under the full Witt algebra. Furthermore, there is an adelic version of this family of conformal field theories, parameterized by the choice of a number field, together with a Hecke character. Tate's thesis gives the Green's functions of these theories, and ensures that these Green's functi…
A personal view on Julius Wess's human and scientific legacy in Serbia and the Balkan region is given. Motivation for using noncommutative and nonarchimedean geometry on very short distances is presented. In addition to some mathematical preliminaries, we present a short introduction in adelic quantum mechanics in a way suitable for its noncommutative generalization. We also review the basic ideas and tools embedded in $q$-deformed and noncommutative quantum mechanics. A rather fundamental approach, called deformation quantization, is noted. A few relations between noncommutativity and nonarch…
The continuity equation relating the change in time of the position probability density to the gradient of the probability current density is generalized to PT-symmetric quantum mechanics. The normalization condition of eigenfunctions is modified in accordance with this new conservation law and illustrated with some detailed examples.
We study Sorkin's proposal of a generalization of quantum mechanics and find that the theories proposed derive their probabilities from $k$-th order polynomials in additive measures, in the same way that quantum mechanics uses a probability bilinear in the quantum amplitude and its complex conjugate. Two complementary approaches are presented, a $C^*$ and a Hopf-algebraic one, illuminating both algebraic and geometric aspects of the problem.
We solve the generalized relativistic harmonic oscillator in 1+1 dimensions in the presence of a minimal length. Using the momentum space representation, we explore all the possible signs of the potentials and discuss their bound-state solutions for fermion and antifermions. Furthermore, we also find an isolated solution from the Sturm-Liouville scheme. All cases already analyzed in the literature, are obtained as particular cases.
In this paper we generalize the concept of Wigner function in the case of quantum mechanics with a minimum length scale arising due to the application of a generalized uncertainty principle (GUP). We present the phase space formulation of such theories following GUP and show that the Weyl transform and the Wigner function does satisfy some of their known properties in standard quantum mechanics. We utilise the generalized Wigner function to calculate the phase space average of the Hamiltonian of a quantum harmonic oscillator satisfying deformed Heisenberg algebra. It is also shown that average…
In this work, a spin $\frac 12$ relativistic particle described by a generalized potential containing both the Coulomb potential and a Lorentz scalar potential in Dirac equation is investigated in terms of the generalized ladder operators from supersymmetry in quantum mechanics. This formalism is applied for the generalized Dirac-Coulomb problem, which is an exactly solvable potential in relativistic quantum mechanics. We obtain the energy eigenvalues and calculate explicitly the energy eigenfunctions for the ground state and the first excited state.
We show that the relation between the Schrödinger equation and diffusion processes has an algebraic nature and can be revealed via the structure of "duplex numbers." This helps one to clarify that quantum mechanics cannot be reduced to diffusion theory. Also, a generalized version of quantum mechanics where $\C$ is replaced by a normed algebra with a unit is proposed.
Fractional supersymmetric quantum mechanics of order $λ$ is realized in terms of the generators of a generalized deformed oscillator algebra and a Z$_λ$-grading structure is imposed on the Fock space of the latter. This realization is shown to be fully reducible with the irreducible components providing $λ$ sets of minimally bosonized operators corresponding to both unbroken and broken cases. It also furnishes some examples of Z$_λ$-graded uniform topological symmetry of type (1, 1, ..., 1) with topological invariants generalizing the Witten index.
When one tries to take into account the non-trivial vacuum structure of Quantum Field Theory, the standard functional-integral tools such as generating functionals or transitional amplitudes, are often quite inadequate for such purposes. Here we propose a generalized generating functional for Green's functions which allows to easily distinguish among a continuous set of vacua that are mutually connected via unitary canonical transformations. In order to keep our discussion as simple as possible, we limit ourselves to Quantum Mechanics where the generating functional of Green's functions is con…
In this work, we have obtained the solutions of the (1 + 1) dimensional Dirac equation on a gravitational background within the generalized uncertainty principle. We have shown that how minimal length parameters effect the Dirac particle in a spacetime described by conformally flat metric. Also, supersymmetric quantum mechanics is used both to factorize the Dirac Hamiltonians and obtain new metric functions. Finally, it is observed that the energy dependent potentials may be extended to the energy dependent metric functions.
We consider the Dirac equation in 1+1 space-time dimension with vector, scalar and pseudo-scalar coupling. In the traditional spin (or pseudo-spin) symmetry, the difference between (or sum of) the scalar and vector potentials is a constant. Here, however, we introduce an alternative symmetry where the scalar or pseudo-scalar potential is proportional to the vector potential. This leads to a model with significant extensions to supersymmetric quantum mechanics. We present a formal solution of the problem but give explicit analytic results for specific examples.
Using a new state-dependent, $λ$-deformable, linear functional operator, ${\cal Q}_ψ^λ$, which presents a natural $C^{\infty}$ deformation of quantization, we obtain a uniquely selected non--linear, integro--differential Generalized Schrödinger equation. The case ${\cal Q}_ψ^{1}$ reproduces linear quantum mechanics, whereas ${\cal Q}_ψ^{0}$ admits an exact dynamic, energetic and measurement theoretic {\em reproduction} of classical mechanics. All solutions to the resulting classical wave equation are given and we show that functionally chaotic dynamics exists.
In this note, we study the potential algebra for several models arising out of quantum mechanics with generalized uncertainty principle. We first show that the eigenvalue equation corresponding to the momentum-space Hamiltonian \[H=-(1+βp^{2})\frac{d}{dp}(1+βp^{2})\frac{d}{dp}+g(g-1)β^{2}p^{2}-gβ,\] which is associated with some one-dimensional models with minimal length uncertainty, can be solved by the unitary representations of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ if $g\in\{\tfrac{1}{2},1,\tfrac{3}{2},2,\cdots\}$. We then apply this result to spectral problems for the non-relativistic harmoni…
We propose a modification of a recently introduced generalized translation operator, by including a $q$-exponential factor, which implies in the definition of a Hermitian deformed linear momentum operator $\hat{p}_q$, and its canonically conjugate deformed position operator $\hat{x}_q$. A canonical transformation leads the Hamiltonian of a position-dependent mass particle to another Hamiltonian of a particle with constant mass in a conservative force field of a deformed phase space. The equation of motion for the classical phase space may be expressed in terms of the generalized dual $q$-deriv…
Supersymmetric quantum mechanics has many applications, and typically uses a raising and lowering operator formalism. For one dimensional problems, we show how such raising and lowering operators may be generalized to include an arbitrary function. As a result, the usual Rodrigues' formula of the theory of orthogonal polynomials may be recovered in special cases, and it may otherwise be generalized to incorporate an arbitrary function. We provide example generalized operators for several important classical orthogonal polynomials, including Chebyshev, Gegenbauer, and other polynomials. In part…
The Gelfand-Yaglom formula relates the regularized determinant of a differential operator to the solution of an initial value problem. Here we develop a generalized Gelfand-Yaglom formula for a Hamiltonian system with Lagrangian boundary conditions in the discrete and continuous settings. Later we analyze the convergence of the discretized Hamilton-Jacobi operator and propose a lattice regularization for the determinant.
Two generalizations of Kempf's quadratic canonical commutation relation in one dimension are considered. The first one is the most general quadratic commutation relation. The corresponding nonzero minimal uncertainties in position and momentum are determined and the effect on the energy spectrum and eigenfunctions of the harmonic oscillator in an electric field is studied. The second extension is a function-dependent generalization of the simplest quadratic commutation relation with only a nonzero minimal uncertainty in position. Such an uncertainty now becomes dependent on the average positio…
In this paper we generalize the Rubakov-Spiridonov parasupersymmetry algebra to the order 3 case. We also generalize the notion of the Witten index, and we provide a class of models satisfying our parasupersymmetry algebra. Finally, we show that there is a correspondence between the Hamiltonian and the index in our class of models.
This paper is concerned with the discrete spectra of Schroedinger operators H = -Delta + V, where V(r) is an attractive potential in N spatial dimensions. Two principal results are reported for the bottom of the spectrum of H in each angular-momentum subspace H_{ell}: (i) an optimized lower bound when the potential is a sum of terms V(r) = V^{(1)}(r) + V^{(2)}(r), and the bottoms of the spectra of -Delta + V^{(1)}(r) and -Delta + V^{(2)}(r) in H_{ell} are known, and (ii) a generalized comparison theorem which predicts spectral ordering when the graphs of the comparison potentials V^{(1)}(r) an…
We study the problem of the attractive inverse square potential in quantum mechanics with a generalized uncertainty relation. Using the momentum representation, we show that this potential is regular in this framework. We solve analytically the s-wave bound states equation in terms of Heun's functions. We discuss in detail the bound states spectrum for a specific form of the generalized uncertainty relation. The minimal length may be interpreted as characterizing the dimension of the system.
A solution for the Weinstein's Problem in the general framework of generalized Lie algebroids is the target of this paper. We present the mechanical systems called by use, mechanical (?; ?)-systems, Lagrange mechanical (?; ?)-systems or Finsler mechanical (?; ?)-systems and we develop their geometries. We obtain the canonical (?; ?)-semi(spray) associated to a mechanical (?; ?)-system. The Lagrange mechanical (?; ?)-systems are the spaces necessary to develop a Lagrangian formalism. We obtain the (?; ?)-semispray associated to a regular Lagrangian L and external force Fe and we derive the equa…
We show that the quantization of a simple damped system leads to a self-adjoint Hamiltonian with a family of complex generalized eigenvalues. It turns out that they correspond to the poles of energy eigenvectors when continued to the complex energy plane. Therefore, the corresponding generalized eigenvectors may be interpreted as resonant states. We show that resonant states are responsible for the irreversible quantum dynamics of our simple model.
A new description, different by the classical theory of Hamiltonian Mechanics, in the general framework of generalized Lie algebroids is presented. In the particular case of Lie algebroids, new and important results are obtained. We present the \emph{dual mechanical systems} called by use, \emph{dual mechanical}$(ρ,η) $\emph{-systems, Hamilton mechanical}$(ρ,η) $\emph{-systems} or \emph{% Cartan mechanical}$(ρ,η) $\emph{-systems.} and we develop their geometries. We obtain the canonical $(ρ,η) $\emph{-}semi(spray) associated to a dual mechanical $(ρ,η) $-system. The Hamilton mechanical $(ρ,η)$…
We present numerical techniques based on generalized functions adapted to nonlinear calculations. They concern main numerical engineering problems ruled by-or issued from-nonlinear equations of continuum mechanics. The aim of this text is to invite the readers in applying these techniques in their own work without significant prerequisites by presenting their use on a sample of elementary applications from engineering. Pure mathematicians can read it easily since the numerical techniques are fully recalled in a very simple way and these applied mathematics are indeed based on nonlinear pure ma…
This work has the purpose of applying the concept of Geometric Calculus (Clifford Algebras) to the Fibre Bundle description of Quantum Mechanics. Thus, it is intended to generalize that formulation to curved spacetimes [the base space of the fibre bundle in question] in a more natural way. It starts off with a review of the mathematical tools needed and then moves on to build the objects necessary.
The virial theorem, introduced by Clausius in statistical mechanics, and later applied in both classical mechanics and quantum mechanics, is studied by making use of symplectic formalism as an approach in the case of both the Hamiltonian and Lagrangian systems. The possibility of establishing virial's like theorems from one-parameter groups of non-strictly canonical transformations is analysed; and the case of systems with a position dependent mass is also discussed. Using the modern symplectic approach to quantum mechanics we arrive at the quantum virial theorem in full analogy with the class…
Painleve analysis, Backlund transformation, Lax pair and periodic wave solutions for a generalized (2+1)-dimensional Hirota-Satsuma-Ito equation in fluid mechanics
In this paper we make an overview of results relating the recent "discoveries" in differential geometry, such as higher structures and differential graded manifolds with some natural problems coming from mechanics. We explain that a lot of classical differential geometric constructions in the context can be conveniently described using the language of Q-structures, and thus Q-structure preserving integrators are potentially of great use in mechanics. We give some hints how the latter can be constructed, and formulate some open problems. Since the text is intended both to mathematics and mechan…
Starting on the basis of the non-commutative q-differential calculus, we introduce a generalized q-deformed Schrödinger equation. It can be viewed as the quantum stochastic counterpart of a generalized classical kinetic equation, which reproduces at the equilibrium the well-known q-deformed exponential stationary distribution. In this framework, q-deformed adjoint of an operator and q-hermitian operator properties occur in a natural way in order to satisfy the basic quantum mechanics assumptions.
In this work, the principles of Homological Integration Theory are applied to the mathematical formulation of continuum mechanics. A central guideline in the currently acceptable formulation of continuum mechanics is that an admissible body is represented by a set of finite perimeter. The proposed framework is shown to enable the inclusion of a class of generalized bodies for which a corresponding stress theory is properly formulated and a generalized principle of virtual power is presented.
In Ref.~\cite{Sag} we proposed a geometric formulation of generalized Nambu mechanics. In the present paper we extend the class of Nambu systems by replacing the stringent condition of constancy of 3-form by closedness. We also explore the connection between continuous groups of symmetries and conservation laws for such systems. The Noether theorem for generalized Nambu systems is formulated by generalizing the notion of momentum map. In this case, a natural choice of dynamical variables for discussion of symmetries is 2-form fields. Thus the generators and the conserved quantities in Noether …
We use a metric invariant stress theory of continuum mechanics to formulate a simple generalization of the the basic variables of electrodynamics and Maxwell's equations to general differentiable manifolds of any dimension, thus viewing generalized electrodynamics as a special case of continuum mechanics. The basic variable is the potential, or a variation thereof, which is represented as an $r$-form in a $d$-dimensional spacetime. The stress for the case of generalized electrodynamics, is assumed to be represented by an $(d-r-1)$-form, a generalization of the Maxwell $2$-form.
(Draft 3) A generalized differential operator on the real line is defined by means of a limiting process. These generalized derivatives include, as a special case, the classical derivative and current studies of fractional differential operators. All such operators satisfy properties such as the sum, product/quotient rules, chain rule, etc. We study a Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problem with generalized derivatives and show that the general case is actually a consequence of standard Sturm-Liouville Theory. As an application of the developments herein we find the general solution of a generalize…
In accordance with the Keller-Maslov global WKB theory, a semiclassical scalar wave field is best encoded as a triple consisting of (i) a Lagrangian submanifold $Λ$ in the ray phase space, (ii) a density $μ$ on $Λ$, and (iii) an overall phase factor $ϕ$. We present the Hamiltonian structure of the Cauchy problem for such a "geometric semiclassical state" in the special case where the wave operator is Hermetian. Variational, symplectic, and Poisson formulations of the time evolution equations for $(Λ,μ,ϕ)$ are identitfied. Because we work in terms of the Keller-Maslov global WKB ansatz, as oppo…
We present a new exactly solvable quantum problem for which the Schroedinger equation allows for separation of variables in oblate spheroidal coordinates. Namely, this is the quantum mechanical two Coulomb centers problem for the case of imaginary intercenter parameter and complex conjugate charges is considered. Since the potential is defined by the two-sheeted mapping whose singularities are concentrated on a circle rather than at separate points, there arise additional possibilities in choice of boundary conditions. Detailed classification of the various types of boundary-value problems is …
