In many Lagrangian field theories, there is a Poisson bracket on the space of local functionals. One may identify the fields of such theories as sections of a vector bundle. It is known that the Poisson bracket induces an sh-Lie structure on the graded space of horizontal forms on the jet bundle of the relevant vector bundle. We consider those automorphisms of the vector bundle which induce mappings on the space of functionals preserving the Poisson bracket and refer to such automorphisms as canonical automorphisms.
We determine how such automorphisms relate to the corresponding sh-Lie structure. If a Lie group acts on the bundle via canonical automorphisms, there are induced actions on the space of local functionals and consequently on the corresponding sh-Lie algebra. We determine conditions under which the sh-Lie structure induces an sh-Lie structure on a corresponding reduced space where the reduction is determined by the action of the group. These results are not directly a consequence of the corresponding theorems on Poisson manifolds as none of the algebraic structures are Poisson algebras.
In many Lagrangian field theories one has a Poisson bracket defined on the space of local functionals. We find necessary and sufficient conditions for a transformation on the space of local functionals to be canonical in three different cases. These three cases depend on the specific dimensions of the vector bundle of the theory and the associated Hamiltonian differential operator. We also show how a canonical transformation transforms a Hamiltonian evolutionary system and its conservation laws. Finally we illustrate these ideas with three examples.
We show that every Lie algebra is equipped with a natural $(1,1)$-variant tensor field, the "canonical endomorphism field", naturally determined by the Lie structure, and satisfying a certain Nijenhuis bracket condition. This observation may be considered as complementary to the Kirillov-Kostant-Souriau theorem on symplectic geometry of coadjoint orbits. We show its relevance for classical mechanics, in particular for Lax equations. We show that the space of Lax vector fields is closed under Lie bracket and we introduce a new bracket for vector fields on a Lie algebra. This bracket defines a n…
Canonical transformation in a three-dimensional phase space endowed with Nambu bracket is discussed in a general framework. Definition of the canonical transformations is constructed as based on canonoid transformations. It is shown that generating functions, transformed Hamilton functions and the transformation itself for given generating functions can be determined by solving Pfaffian differential equations corresponding to that quantities. Types of the generating functions are introduced and all of them is listed. Infinitesimal canonical transformations are also discussed. Finally, we show …
In this short note we return to the old paper by Tai L. Chow (Eur. J. Phys. 18 (1997), 467-468) and correct its erroneous final part. We also note that the main result of that paper, that gauge transformations of mechanics are canonical transformations, was known much earlier.
In this paper we present canonical and canonoid transformations considered as global geometrical objects for Hamiltonian systems. Under the mathematical formalisms of symplectic, cosymplectic, contact and cocontact geometry, the canonoid transformations are defined for (co)symplectic, (co)contact Hamiltonian systems, respectively. The local characterizations of these transformations is derived explicitly and it is demonstrated that for a given canonoid transformation there exist constants of motion associated with it
Canonical transformations (Bogoliubov transformations) for fermions with an infinite number of degrees of freedom are studied within a calculus of superanalysis. A continuous representation of the orthogonal group is constructed on a Grassmann module extension of the Fock space. The pull-back of these operators to the Fock space yields a unitary ray representation of the group that implements the Bogoliubov transformations.
It was proposed the Lie group such that symplectic structure of orbits of co-adjoint representation of the group is revealed symplectic structure of a rigid body dynamics in quaternion variables. It is shown that Poisson brackets of corresponding Lie-Poisson structure coincide with canonical Poisson brackets on cotangent bundle of group unit quaternions.
We discuss generalizations of the well known concept of canonical transformations for symplectic structures to the case of hyperkahler structures. Different characterizations, which are equivalent in the symplectic case, give raise to non-equivalent notions in the hyperkahler framework; we will thus distinguish between hyperkahler and canonical transformations. We also discuss the properties of hyperhamiltonian dynamics in this respect.
A conjecture in quantum mechanics states that any quantum canonical transformation can decompose into a sequence of three basic canonical transformations; gauge, point and interchange of coordinates and momenta. It is shown that if one attempts to construct the three basic transformations in star-product form, while gauge and point transformations are immediate in star-exponential form, interchange has no correspondent, but it is possible in an ordinary exponential form. As an alternative approach, it is shown that all three basic transformations can be constructed in the ordinary exponential …
The (in)finite dimensional symplectic group of homogeneous canonical transformations is represented on the bosonic Fock space by the action of the group on the ultracoherent vectors, which are generalizations of the coherent states.
A one-parameter symplectic group $\{e^{t\dA}\}_{t\in\RR}$ derives proper canonical transformations on a Boson Fock space. It has been known that the unitary operator $U_t$ implementing such a proper canonical transformation gives a projective unitary representation of $\{e^{t\dA}\}_{t\in\RR}$ and that $U_t$ can be expressed as a normal-ordered form. We rigorously derive the self-adjoint operator $\D(\dA)$ and a phase factor $e^{i\int_0^t\TA(s)ds}$ with a real-valued function $\TA$ such that $U_t=e^{i\int_0^t\TA(s)ds}e^{it\D(\dA)}$. Key words: Canonical transformations(Bogoliubov transformation…
We propose a method for integrating the right-invariant geodesic flows on Lie groups based on the use of a special canonical transformation in the cotangent bundle of the group. We also describe an original method of constructing exact solutions for the Klein - Gordon equation on unimodular Lie groups. Finally, we formulate a theorem which establishes a connection between the special canonical transformation and irreducible representations of Lie group. This connection allows us to consider the proposed methods of integrating for classical and quantum equations in the framework of a unified ap…
This paper presents the general theory of canonical transformations of coordinates in quantum mechanics. First, the theory is developed in the formalism of phase space quantum mechanics. It is shown that by transforming a star-product, when passing to a new coordinate system, observables and states transform as in classical mechanics, i.e., by composing them with a transformation of coordinates. Then the developed formalism of coordinate transformations is transferred to a standard formulation of quantum mechanics. In addition, the developed theory is illustrated on examples of particular clas…
This paper reveals the relation between the canonical coset decomposition of unitary matrices and the corresponding decomposition via Householder reflections. These results can be used to parametrize unitary matrices via Householder reflections.
In this paper by using the method of point canonical transformation we find that the Coulomb and Kratzer potentials can be mapped to the Morse potential. Then we show that the Pöschl-Teller potential type I belongs to the same subclass of shape invariant potentials as Hulthén potential. Also we show that the shape-invariant algebra for Coulomb, Kratzer, and Morse potentials is SU(1,1), while the shape-invariant algebra for Pöschl-Teller type I and Hulthén is SU(2).
The d-dimensional generalization of the point canonical transformation for a quantum particle endowed with a position-dependent mass in Schrodinger equation is described. Illustrative examples including; the harmonic oscillator, Coulomb, spiked harmonic, Kratzer, Morse oscillator, Poschl-Teller and Hulthen potentials are used as reference potentials to obtain exact energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions for target potentials at different position-dependent mass settings.
For classical canonical transformations, one can, using the Wigner transformation, pass from their representation in Hilbert space to a kernel in phase space. In this paper it will be discussed how the time-dependence of the uncertainties of the corresponding time-dependent quantum problems can be incorporated into this formalism.
We show that the supersymmetric algebra of Witten's quantum mechanics is invariant under a given point canonical transformation. It is shown that Witten's supersymmetric quantum mechanics can be isospectral or not to the seed Hamiltonian depending on the space coordinate you work on. We illustrate our results by generating a new class of exactly solvable supersymmetric partner Hamiltonians which are not isospectral to the seed Hamiltonian.
The interpretation of the optical Appell transformation, as previously elaborated in relation to the free-space paraxial propagation under both a rectangular and a circular cylindrical symmetry, is reviewed. Then, the caloric Appell transformation, well known in the theory of heat equation, is shown to be amenable for a similar interpretation involving the Laplace transform rather than the Fourier transform, when dealing with the 1D heat equation. Accordingly, when considering the radial heat equation, suitably defined Hankel-type transforms come to be involved in the inherent Appell transform…
Electromagnetism, the strong and the weak interaction are commonly formulated as gauge theories in a Lagrangian description. In this paper we present an alternative formal derivation of U(1)-gauge theory in a manifestly covariant Hamilton formalism. We make use of canonical transformations as our guiding tool to formalize the gauging procedure. The introduction of the gauge field, its transformation behaviour and a dynamical gauge field Lagrangian/Hamiltonian are unavoidable consequences of this formalism, whereas the form of the free gauge Lagrangian/Hamiltonian depends on the selection of th…
The theory of recurrence relations of linear multi-component and multi-parameter systems on the basis of the canonical transformations theory of the dynamical systems' sets is constructed. The parameters of the grating's knots are defined from the condition of the invariance of the model under shifts along the grating. The connection with a zero curvature representation for models on the grating is installed. The examples of two- and three-parameter systems described by the hypergeometric functions M(α,β,t) and M(α,β,ξ,t) are considered in details. The canonical recurrence relations increasing…
The Newton equation describing the particle motion in constant external field force on canonical, Lie-algebraic and quadratic space-time is investigated. We show that for canonical deformation of space-time the dynamical effects are absent, while in the case of Lie-algebraic noncommutativity, when spatial coordinates commute to the time variable, the additional acceleration of particle is generated. We also indicate, that in the case of spatial coordinates commuting in Lie-algebraic way, as well as for quadratic deformation, there appear additional velocity and position-dependent forces.
Following Dirac, the rules of canonical quantization include classical and quantum contact transformations of classical and quantum phase space variables. While arbitrary classical canonical coordinate transformations exist that is not the case for some analogous quantum canonical coordinate transformations. This failure is due to the rigid connection of quantum variables arising by promoting the corresponding classical variable from a $c$-number to a $q$-number. A different relationship of $c$-numbers and $q$-numbers in the procedures of Enhanced Quantization shows the compatibility of all qu…
A GBDT version of the Backlund-Darboux transformation is constructed for a non-isospectral canonical system, which plays essential role in the theory of random matrix models. The corresponding Riemann-Hilbert problem is treated and some explicit formulas are obtained. A related inverse problem is formulated and solved.
We propose canonical and Lie-algebraic twist deformations of $κ$-deformed Poincare Hopf algebra which leads to the generalized $κ$-Minkowski space-time relations. The corresponding deformed $κ$-Poincare quantum groups are also calculated. Finally, we perform the nonrelativistic contraction limit to the corresponding twisted Galilean algebras and dual Galilean quantum groups.
Motivated by the observation that all known exactly solvable shape invariant central potentials are inter-related via point canonical transformations, we develop an algebraic framework to show that a similar mapping procedure is also exist between a class of non-central potentials. As an illustrative example, we discuss the inter-relation between the generalized Coulomb and oscillator systems.
A theory of nonunitary-invertible as well as unitary canonical transformations is formulated in the context of Weyl's phase space representations. Exact solutions of the transformation kernels and the phase space propagators are given for the three fundamental canonical maps as fractional-linear, gauge and contact (point) transformations. Under the nonlinear maps a phase space representation is mapped to another phase space representation thereby extending the standard concept of covariance. This extended covariance allows Dirac-Jordan transformation theory to naturally emerge from the Hilbert…
We study some properties of the canonical transformations in classical mechanics and quantum field theory and give a number of practical formulas concerning their generating functions. First, we give a diagrammatic formula for the perturbative expansion of the composition law around the identity map. Then, we propose a standard way to express the generating function of a canonical transformation by means of a certain "componential" map, which obeys the Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formula. We derive the diagrammatic interpretation of the componential map, work out its relation with the solution of…
A generalized theory of gauge transformations is presented on the basis of the covariant Hamiltonian formalism of field theory, for which the covariant canonical field equations are equivalent to the Euler-Lagrange field equations. Similar to the canonical transformation theory of point dynamics, the canonical transformation rules for fields are derived from generating functions. Thus---in contrast to the usual Lagrangian description---the covariant canonical transformation formalism automatically ensures the mappings to preserve the action principle, and hence to be {\em physical}. On that ba…
The space representations of linear canonical transformations were studied by Moshinsky and Quesne in 1972. For a few decades, the bilinear hamiltonian remained as the only exactly solvable representative for such problems. In this work we show that the Mello-Moshinsky equations can be solved exactly for a class of problems with discrete symmetry, leading to exact propagators for Wannier-Stark ladders in one and two dimensional crystals. We give a detailed study for a particle in a triangular lattice under the influence of a time-dependent electric field. A more general set of Mello-Moshinsky …
SO(2,1) is the symmetry algebra for a class of three-parameter problems that includes the oscillator, Coulomb and Morse potentials as well as other problems at zero energy. All of the potentials in this class can be mapped into the oscillator potential by point canonical transformations. We call this class the "oscillator class". A nontrivial graded extension of SO(2,1) is defined and its realization by two-dimensional matrices of differential operators acting in spinor space is given. It turns out that this graded algebra is the supersymmetry algebra for a class of relativistic potentials tha…
The aim of this comment is to call to the attention of DSR readers a basic fact. The introduction of noncommutative structures in problems like the one addressed in [1] is not necessary for the understanding of DSR physics. It can be described just as the relativistic free particle problem in a different parametrization.
We address the problem of integrating operator equations concomitant with the dynamics of non autonomous quantum systems by taking advantage of the use of time-dependent canonical transformations. In particular, we proceed to a discussion in regard to basic examples of one-dimensional non-autonomous dynamical systems enjoying the property that their Hamiltonian can be mapped through a time-dependent linear canonical transformation into an autonomous form, up to a time-dependent multiplicative factor. The operator equations we process essentially reproduce at the quantum level the classical int…
