In this paper, we study a general class of inhomogeneous kinetic models that unifies fundamental models in both the statistical physics of particles and of waves, namely the kinetic Boltzmann equations and the kinetic wave equations, in both classical (non-relativistic), relativistic and quantum settings. We formulate this unified equation into the GENERIC (General Equation for Non-Equilibrium Reversible-Irreversible Coupling) framework. We then derive the grazing (small-angle) limit in two-body interaction systems, which leads to Landau-type equations. Finally, we show that these limiting systems can also be formulated as GENERIC systems.
We prove regularization properties in short time for inhomogeneous kinetic equations whose collision kernel behaves like a fractional power of the Laplacian in velocity. We treat a fractional Kolmogorov equation and the linearized Boltzmann equation without cutoff (for hard potentials).
Starting from a stochastic Zakharov-Kuznetsov (ZK) equation on a lattice, the previous work [ST21] by the last two authors gave a derivation of the homogeneous 3-wave kinetic equation at the kinetic limit under very general assumptions: the initial condition is out of equilibrium, the dimension $d\ge 2$, the smallness of the nonlinearity $λ$ is allowed to be independent of the size of the lattice, the weak noise is chosen not to compete with the weak nonlinearity and not to inject energy into the equation. In the present work, we build on the framework of [ST21], following the formal derivatio…
In this lectures given at the Morning side center of Mathematics in October 2016, we present in a very simple framework Hilbertian hypocoercive methods in the case of 1d kinetic inhomogeneous equations, and some illustrations concerning short time or long time behavior in a linear or non-linear perturbative setting
The smoothing effect of the Cauchy problem for a class of kinetic equations is studied. We firstly consider the spatially homogeneous non linear Landau equation with Maxwellian molecules and inhomogeneous linear Fokker-Planck equation to show the ultra-analytic effects of the Cauchy problem. Those smoothing effect results are optimal and similar to heat equation. In the second part, we study a model of spatially inhomogeneous linear Landau equation with Maxwellian molecules, and show the analytic effect of the Cauchy problem.
The PSA system commonly used in the context of gas-solid chromatography is reformulated as a single kinetic equation using an additional kinetic variable. A kinetic numerical scheme is built from this new formulation and its behavior is tested on solving the Riemann problem in different configurations leading to single or composite waves.
In this paper, we study the Gevrey regularity of weak solutions for a class of linear and semi-linear kinetic equations, which are the linear model of spatially inhomogeneous Boltzmann equations without an angular cutoff.
This article focuses on gradient vector fields of unit Euclidean norm in $\mathbb{R}^N$ . The stream functions associated to such vector fields solve the eikonal equation and the prototype is given by the distance function to a closed set. We introduce a kinetic formulation that characterizes stream functions whose level sets are either spheres or hyperplanes in dimension $N \geq 3$. Our main result proves that the kinetic formulation is a selection principle for the vortex vector field whose stream function is the distance function to a point.
In this paper, we study the Gevrey regularity of weak solutions for a class of linear and semi-linear kinetic equations, which are the linear model of spatially inhomogeneous Boltzmann equations without an angular cutoff.
We prove a uniqueness result for BV solutions of scalar conservation laws with discontinuous flux in several space dimensions. The proof is based on the notion of kinetic solution and on a careful analysis of the entropy dissipation along the discontinuities of the flux.
We use the method of Compensated Compactness and Kinteic Formulation to show that the almost everywhere limit of quasilinear viscous approximations is the unique entropy solution (in the sense of {\it F. Otto}) of the corresponding scalar conservation laws on a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$, where the viscous term is of the form $\varepsilon\,div\left(B(u^{\varepsilon})\nabla u^{\varepsilon}\right)$.
In this paper, we are concerned with the local-in-time well-posedness of a fluid-kinetic model in which the BGK model with density dependent collision frequency is coupled with the inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes equation through drag forces. To the best knowledge of authors, this is the first result on the existence of local-in-time smooth solution for particle-fluid model with nonlinear inter-particle operator for which the existence of time can be prolonged as the size of initial data gets smaller.
We prove a Schauder estimate for kinetic Fokker-Planck equations that requires only Hölder regularity in space and velocity but not in time. As an application, we deduce a weak-strong uniqueness result of classical solutions to the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equation beginning from initial data having Hölder regularity in $x$ and only a logarithmic modulus of continuity in $v$. This replaces an earlier result requiring Hölder continuity in both variables.
In this work, we investigate the Cauchy problem for the spatially inhomogeneous non-cutoff Kac equation. If the initial datum belongs to the spatially critical Besov space, we can prove the well-posedness of weak solution under a perturbation framework. Furthermore, it is shown that the solution enjoys Gelfand-Shilov regularizing properties with respect to the velocity variable and Gevrey regularizing properties with respect to the position variable. In comparison with the recent result in [18], the Gelfand-Shilov regularity index is improved to be optimal. To the best of our knowledge, our wo…
This paper addresses the problem of energy conservation for the two- and three-dimensional density-dependent Euler equations. Two types of sufficient conditions on the regularity of solutions are provided to ensure the conservation of total kinetic energy on the entire time interval including the initial time. The first class of data assumes integrability on the spatial gradient of the density, and hence covers the classical result of Constantin-E-Titi for the homogeneous Euler equations. The other type of data imposes extra time Besov regularity on the velocity profile, and the corresponding …
We prove the existence and uniqueness of positive analytical solutions with positive initial data to the mean field equation (the Dyson equation) of the Dyson Brownian motion through the complex Burgers equation with a force term on the upper half complex plane. These solutions converge to a steady state given by Wigner's semicircle law. A unique global weak solution with nonnegative initial data to the Dyson equation is obtained and some explicit solutions are given by Wigner's semicircle laws. We also construct a bi-Hamiltonian structure for the system of the real and imaginary components of…

In this paper we study second order stochastic differential equations with measurable and density-distribution dependent coefficients. Through establishing a maximum principle for kinetic Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equations with distribution-valued inhomogeneous term, we show the existence of weak solutions under mild assumptions. Moreover, by using the Hölder regularity estimate obtained recently in \cite{GIMV19}, we also show the well-posedness of generalized martingale problems when diffusion coefficients only depend on the position variable (not necessarily continuous). Even in the non dens…
