We investigate semilinear wave-type equations that can be recast as wave equations with derivatives perturbed by zero-order terms. This framework covers several well-studied cases, including the scale-invariant wave equation. In this setting, we refine existing blow-up results for radial initial data with suitable decay, and identify conditions on the zero-order terms that govern the interplay between derivative perturbations, initial data size, and nonlinearity exponent.
We construct a solution for a class of strongly perturbed semilinear heat equations which blows up in finite time with a prescribed blow-up profile. The construction relies on the reduction of the problem to a finite dimensional one and the use of index theory to conclude.
We give blow-up results for the Klein-Gordon equation and other perturbations of the semilinear wave equations with superlinear power nonlinearity, in one space dimension or in higher dimension under radial symmetry outside the origin.
We consider in this work some class of strongly perturbed for the semilinear heat equation with Sobolev sub-critical power nonlinearity. We first derive a Lyapunov functional in similarity variables and then use it to derive the blow-up rate. We also classify all possible asymptotic behaviors of the solution when it approaches to singularity. Finally, we describe precisely the blow-up profiles corresponding to these behaviors.
We consider in this paper a perturbation of the standard semilinear heat equation by a term involving the space derivative and a non-local term. In some earlier work (Abdelhedi-Zaag JDE 2021), we constructed a blow-up solution for that equation, and showed that it blows up (at least) at the origin. We also derived the so called "intermediate blow-up profile". In this paper, we prove the single point blow-up property and determine the final blow-up profile.
We consider in this work some class of strongly perturbed for the semilinear wave equation with conformal power nonlinearity. We obtain an optimal estimate for a radial blow-up solution and we have also obtained two less stronger estimates. These results are achieved in three-steps argument by the construction of a Lyapunov functional in similarity variables and the Pohozaev identity.
We consider a blow-up solution for a strongly perturbed semilinear heat equation with Sobolev subcritical power nonlinearity. Working in the framework of similarity variables, we find a Lyapunov functional for the problem. Using this Lyapunov functional, we derive the blow-up rate and the blow-up limit of the solution. We also classify all asymptotic behaviors of the solution at the singularity and give precisely blow-up profiles corresponding to these behaviors. Finally, we attain the blow-up profile numerically, thanks to a new mesh-refinement algorithm inspired by the rescaling method of Be…
We consider in this paper a large class of perturbed semilinear wave equation with subconformal power nonlinearity. In particular, we allow log perturbations of the main source. We derive a Lyapunov functional in similarity variables and use it to derive the blow-up rate. Throughout this work, we use some techniques developed for the unperturbed case studied by Merle and Zaag [12] together with ideas introduced by Hamza and Zaag in [5] for a class of weather perturbations.
We consider in this paper a perturbation of the standard semilinear heat equation by a term involving the space derivative and a non-local term. In some earlier works [1, 2], we constructed a solution $u$ for that equation such that $u$ and $\nabla u$ both blow up at the origin and only there. We also gave the final blow-up profile. In this paper, we refine our construction method in order to get a sharper estimate on the gradient at blow-up.
We consider in this paper some class of perturbation for the semilinear wave equation with subcritical (in the conformal transform sense) power nonlinearity. We first derive a Lyapunov functional in similarity variables and then use it to derive the blow-up rate. Though the result is similar to the unperturbed case in its statements, this is not the case of our method, which is new up to our knowledge.
We consider in this paper a large class of perturbed semilinear wave equations with critical (in the conformal transform sense) power nonlinearity. We will show that the blow-up rate of any singular solution is given by the solution of the non-perturbed associated ODE. The result in the radial case has been proved in [13]. The same approach will be followed here, but the main difference is to construct a Lyapunov functional in similarity variables valid in the non-radial case, which is far from being trivial. That functional is obtained by combining some classical estimates and a new identity …
We consider in this paper a perturbation of the standard semilinear heat equation by a term involving the space derivative and a non-local term. We prove the existence of a blow-up solution, and give its blow-up profile. Our proof relies on the following method: we linearize the equation (in similarity variables) around the expected profile, then, we control the nonpositive directions of the spectrum thanks to the decreasing properties of the kernel. Finally, we use a topological argument to control the positive directions of the spectrum.
We consider in this paper a class of strongly perturbed semilinear wave equations with a non-characteristic point in one space dimension, for general initial data. Working in the framework of similarity variables, in \cite {MZ} Merle and Zaag constructed an explicit stationary solution of the unperturbed problem and proved an exponential convergence to this family of solutions. If we follow the same strategy under our strongly perturbed equation we just obtain a polynomial convergence which is a rough estimate compared to the one obtained in the unperturbed problem. In order to refine this app…
We consider the problem of prescribing the scalar and boundary mean curvatures via conformal deformation of the metric on a $n-$ dimensional compact Riemannian manifold. We deal with the case of negative scalar curvature $K$ and boundary mean curvature $H$ of arbitrary sign which are non-constant and $\mathfrak D_n=\sqrt{n(n-1)}{|K|}^{-1/2}>1$ at some point of the boundary. It is known that this problem admits a positive mountain pass solution if $n=3$, while no existence results are known for $n\geq 4$. We will consider a perturbation of the geometric problem and show the existence of a posit…
We build blowing-up solutions for linear perturbation of the Yamabe problem on manifolds with umbilic boundary, provided the Weyl tensor is nonzero everywhere on the boundary and the dimension of the manifold is n>10.
We study the blowup behavior of a class of strongly perturbed wave equations with a focusing supercritical power nonlinearity in three spatial dimensions. We show that the ODE blowup profile of the unperturbed equation still describes the asymptotics of stable blowup. As a consequence, stable ODE-type blowup is seen to be a universal phenomenon that exists in a large class of semilinear wave equations.
We are concerned with the qualitative analysis of positive singular solutions with blow-up boundary for a class of logistic-type equations with slow diffusion and variable potential. We establish the exact blow-up rate of solutions near the boundary in terms of Karamata regular variation theory. This enables us to deduce the uniqueness of the singular solution.
In this paper, we consider a weakly coupled system of a wave and damped Klein-Gordon equation with nonlinearities of derivative type. We prove a blow-up result for the Cauchy problem associated with this system for nonnegative and compactly supported data by means of an iteration argument.
In this paper we generalize the instantaneous blowup result from [3] and [15] to the heat equation perturbed by singular potentials on the Heisenberg group.
In the present paper, we investigate blow-up and lifespan estimates for a class of semilinear hyperbolic coupled system in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with $n\geqslant 1$, which is part of the so-called Nakao's type problem weakly coupled a semilinear damped wave equation with a semilinear wave equation with nonlinearities of derivative type. By constructing two time-dependent functionals and employing an iteration method for unbounded multiplier with slicing procedure, the results of blow-up and upper bound estimates for the lifespan of energy solutions are derived. The model seems to be hyperbolic-like i…
In this paper, we study the blow-up of solutions to the semilinear Moore-Gibson-Thompson (MGT) equation with nonlinearity of derivative type $|u_t|^p$ in the conservative case. We apply an iteration method in order to study both the subcritical case and the critical case. Hence, we obtain a blow-up result for the semilinear MGT equation (under suitable assumptions for initial data) when the exponent $p$ for the nonlinear term satisfies $1<p\leqslant (n+1)/(n-1)$ for $n\geqslant2$ and $p>1$ for $n=1$. In particular, we find the same blow-up range for $p$ as in the corresponding semilinear wave …
We study the Cauchy problem of the mass critical nonlinear Schrodinger equation with derivative with the 4pi mass. One has the global well-posedness in H^1 whenever "the mass is strictly less than 4pi" or whenever "the mass is equal to 4pi and the momentum is strictly less than zero". In this paper, by the concentration compact principle as originally done by Kenig-Merle, we obtain the limiting profile of blow up solutions with the critical 4pi mass.
An improvement of [18] on the blow-up region and the lifespan estimate of a weakly coupled system of wave equations with damping and mass in the scale-invariant case and with time-derivative nonlinearity is obtained in this article. Indeed, thanks to a better understanding of the dynamics of the solutions, we give here a better characterization of the blow-up region. Furthermore, the techniques used in this article may be extended to other systems and interestingly they simplify the proof of the blow-up result in [3] which is concerned with the single wave equation in the same context as in th…
In this note, we prove a blow-up result for a semilinear generalized Tricomi equation with nonlinear term of derivative type, i.e., for the equation $\mathscr{T}_{\!\!\ell} u = |\partial_t u|^p$, where $ \mathscr{T}_{\!\!\ell} = \partial_t^2-t^{2\ell}Δ$. Smooth solutions blow up in finite time for positive Cauchy data when the exponent $p$ of the nonlinear term is below $\frac{\mathscr{Q}}{\mathscr{Q}-2}$, where $\mathscr{Q}=(\ell+1)n+1$ is the quasi-homogeneous dimension of the generalized Tricomi operator $\mathscr{T}_{\!\!\ell}$. Furthermore, we get also an upper bound estimate for the life…
We consider in this article the weakly coupled system of wave equations in the \textit{scale-invariant case} and with time-derivative nonlinearities. Under the usual assumption of small initial data, we obtain an improvement of the delimitation of the blow-up region by obtaining a new candidate for the critical curve. More precisely, we enhance the results obtained in \cite{Palmieri} for the system under consideration in the present work. We believe that our result is optimal in the sense that beyond the blow-up region obtained here we may conjecture the global existence of the solution.
This paper discusses finite time extinction for a perturbed fast diffusion equation with dynamic boundary conditions. The fast diffusion equation has the characteristic property of decay, such as the solution decays to zero in a finite amount of time depending upon the initial data. In the target problem, some $p$-th or $q$-th order perturbation term may work to blow up within this period. The problem arises from the conflict between the diffusion and the blow up, in the bulk and on the boundary. Firstly, the local existence and uniqueness of the solution are obtained. Finally, a result of fin…
Given a compact Riemannian manifold with umbilic boundary, the Yamabe boundary problem studies if there exist conformal scalar-flat metrics such that the boundary has constant mean curvature. In this paper we address to the stability of this problem with respect of perturbation of mean curvature of the boundary and scalar curvature of the manifold. In particular we prove that the Yamabe boundary problem is stable under perturbation of the mean curvature and the scalar curvature from below, while it is not stable if one of the two curvatures is perturbed from above.
Blow-up and lifespan estimate for the generalized tricomi equation with the scale-invariant damping and time derivative nonlinearity on exterior domain
We study the stability of compactness of solutions for the Yamabe boundary problem on a compact Riemannian manifold with non umbilic boundary. We prove that the set of solutions of Yamabe boundary problem is a compact set when perturbing the mean curvature of the boundary from below and the scalar curvature with a function whose maximum is not too positive. In addition, we prove the counterpart of the stability result: there exists a blowing up sequence of solutions when we perturb the mean curvature from above or the mean curvature from below and the scalar curvature with a function with a la…
In this article, we investigate the blow-up for local solutions to a semilinear wave equation in the generalized Einstein - de Sitter spacetime with nonlinearity of derivative type. More precisely, we consider a semilinear damped wave equation with a time-dependent and not summable speed of propagation and with a time-dependent coefficient for the linear damping term with critical decay rate. We prove in this work that the results obtained in a previous work, where the damping coefficient takes two particular values $0$ or $2$, can be extended for any positive damping coefficient. In the blow-…
Local and global properties of minimal solutions for the heat equation generated by the Dirichlet fractional Laplacian negatively perturbed by Hardy's potentials on open subsets of $\R^d$ are analyzed. As a byproduct we obtain instantaneous blow-up of nonnegative solutions in the supercritical case.
We study local-time well-posedness and breakdown for solutions of regularized Saint-Venant equations (regularized classical shallow water equations) recently introduced by Clamond and Dutykh. The system is linearly non-dispersive, and smooth solutions conserve an $H^1$-equivalent energy. No shock discontinuities can occur, but the system is known to admit weakly singular shock-profile solutions that dissipate energy. We identify a class of small-energy smooth solutions that develop singularities in the first derivatives in finite time.
In this note, we prove blow-up results for semilinear wave models with damping and mass in the scale-invariant case and with nonlinear terms of derivative type. We consider the single equation and the weakly coupled system. In the first case we get a blow-up result for exponents below a certain shift of the Glassey exponent. For the weakly coupled system we find as critical curve a shift of the corresponding curve for the weakly coupled system of semilinear wave equations with the same kind of nonlinearities. Our approach follows the one for the respective classical wave equation by Zhou Yi. I…
We prove a constructive stable ODE-type blowup result for open sets of solutions to a family of quasilinear wave equations in three spatial dimensions featuring a Riccati-type derivative-quadratic semilinear term. The singularity is more severe than a shock in that the solution itself blows up like the log of the distance to the blowup-time. We assume that the quasilinear terms satisfy certain structural assumptions, which in particular ensure that the "elliptic part" of the wave operator vanishes precisely at the singular points. The initial data are compactly supported and can be small or la…

We consider the Schrödinger equation with nonlinear derivative term on $[0,+\infty)$ under Robin boundary condition at $0$. Using a virial argument, we obtain the existence of blowing up solutions and using variational techniques, we obtain stability and instability by blow up results for standing waves.
We construct a finite-time blow-up solution for a class of strongly perturbed semilinear wave equation with an isolated characteristic point in one space dimension. Given any integer $k\ge 2$ and $ζ_0 \in \mathbb{R}$, we construct a blow-up solution with a characteristic point $a$, such that the asymptotic behavior of the solution near $(a,T(a))$ shows a decoupled sum of $k$ solitons with alternate signs, whose centers (in the hyperbolic geometry) have $ζ_0$ as a center of mass, for all times. Although the result is similar to the unperturbed case in its statement, our method is new. Indeed, o…
We consider in this paper some class of perturbation for the semilinear wave equation with critical (in the conformal transform sense) power nonlinearity. Working in the framework of similarity variables, we find a Lyapunov functional for the problem. Using a two-step argument based on interpolation and a critical Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality, we show that the blow-up rate of any sigular solution is given by the solution of the non perturbed associated ODE, namely $u" = u^p$.
We consider a one-Laplace equation perturbed by $p$-Laplacian with $1<p<\infty$. We prove that a weak solution is continuously differentiable ($C^{1}$) if it is convex. Note that similar result fails to hold for the unperturbed one-Laplace equation. The main difficulty is to show $C^{1}$-regularity of the solution at the boundary of a facet where the gradient of the solution vanishes. For this purpose we blow-up the solution and prove that its limit is a constant function by establishing a Liouville-type result, which is proved by showing a strong maximum principle. Our argument is rather elem…
We study small random perturbations by additive space-time white noise of a reaction-diffusion equation with a unique stable equilibrium and solutions which blow up in finite time. We show that for initial data in the domain of attraction of the stable equilibrium the perturbed system exhibits metastable behavior: its time averages remain stable around this equilibrium until an abrupt and unpredictable transition occurs which leads to explosion in a finite (but exponentially large) time. On the other hand, for initial data in the domain of explosion we show that the explosion time of the pertu…
In this article, a non linear family of spaces, based on the energy dissipation, is introduced. This family bridges an energy space (containing weak solutions to Navier-Stokes equation) to a critical space (invariant through the canonical scaling of the Navier-Stokes equation). This family is used to get uniform estimates on higher derivatives to solutions to the 3D Navier-Stokes equations. Those estimates are uniform, up to the possible blowing-up time. The proof uses blow-up techniques. Estimates can be obtained by this means thanks to the galilean invariance of the transport part of the equ…
In this paper we consider a stochastic Keller-Segel type equation, perturbed with random noise. We establish that for special types of random pertubations (i.e. in a divergence form), the equation has a global weak solution for small initial data. Furthermore, if the noise is not in a divergence form, we show that the solution has a finite time blowup (with nonzero probability) for any nonzero initial data. The results on the continuous dependence of solutions on the small random perturbations, alongside with the existence of local strong solutions, are also derived in this work.
Singularity formation of the 3D incompressible Euler equations is known to be extremely challenging. In [18], Elgindi proved that the 3D axisymmetric Euler equations with no swirl and $C^{1,α}$ initial velocity develops a finite time singularity. Inspired by Elgindi's work, we proved that the 3D axisymmetric Euler and 2D Boussinesq equations with $C^{1,α}$ initial velocity and boundary develop a stable asymptotically (or approximately) self-similar finite time singularity [8]. On the other hand, the authors of [35,52] recently showed that blowup solutions to the 3D Euler equations are hydrodyn…
Consider nonlinear wave equations in the spatially flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) spacetimes. We show blow-up in finite time of solutions and upper bounds of the lifespan of blow-up solutions to give the FLRW spacetime version of Glassey's conjecture for the time derivative nonlinearity. We also show blow-up results for the space time derivative nonlinearity.
