In this work, we show that there exists a step-two Carnot group on which the new lower bound of the curvature exponent given in arXiv:2308.15811v2 can be strictly less than the curvature exponent by studying the convergence of the structure constants of Lie algebra.
Rank-one symmetric spaces carry a solvable group model which have a generalization to a larger class of Lie groups that are one-dimensional extensions of nilpotent groups. By examining some metric properties of these symmetric spaces, we motivate and prove the existence of analogous left-invariant, Riemannian metrics on Heintze groups of Carnot-type. These metrics adhere to certain natural curvature pinching properties, and we show in a special case that this pinching is optimal, appealing to a result of Belegradek and Kapovitch.
In this note we show how results in \cite{BaudoinBonnefont2016, BaudoinGarofalo2013, CoulhonJiangKoskelaSikora2017} yield the Cheng-Yau estimate on two classes of sub-Riemannian manifolds: Carnot groups and sub-Riemannian manifolds satisfying a generalized curvature-dimension inequality.
We show that in an $m$-step Carnot group, a probability measure with finite $m^{th}$ moment has a well-defined Buser-Karcher center-of-mass, which is a polynomial in the moments of the measure, with respect to exponential coordinates. Using this, we improve the main technical result of our previous paper concerning Sobolev mappings between Carnot groups; as a consequence, a number of rigidity and structural results from recent papers hold under weaker assumptions on the Sobolev exponent. We also give applications to quasiregular mappings, extending earlier work in the $2$-step case to general …
We obtain the best known quantitative estimates for the $L^p$-Poincaré and log-Sobolev inequalities on domains in various sub-Riemannian manifolds, including ideal Carnot groups and in particular ideal generalized H-type Carnot groups and the Heisenberg groups, corank $1$ Carnot groups, the Grushin plane, and various H-type foliations, Sasakian and $3$-Sasakian manifolds. Moreover, this constitutes the first time that a quantitative estimate independent of the dimension is established on these spaces. For instance, the Li-Yau / Zhong-Yang spectral-gap estimate holds on all Heisenberg groups of…
We provide the first general result for the asymptotics of the area preserving mean curvature flow in two dimensions showing that flat flow solutions, starting from any bounded set of finite perimeter, converge with exponential rate to a finite union of equally sized disjoint disks. A similar result is established also for the periodic two-phase Mullins-Sekerka flow.
Given a smooth positive measure $μ$ on a complete Hermitian manifold with Ricci curvature bounded from below, we prove a pointwise Agmon-type bound for the corresponding Bergman kernel, under rather general conditions involving the coercivity of an associated complex Laplacian on $(0,1)$-forms. Thanks to an appropriate version of the Bochner--Kodaira--Nakano basic identity, we can give explicit geometric sufficient conditions for such coercivity to hold. Our results extend several known bounds in the literature to the case in which the manifold is neither assumed to be Kähler nor of "bounded g…
In this note, we derive a new logarithmic Sobolev inequality for the heat kernel on the Heisenberg group. The proof is inspired from the historical method of Leonard Gross with the Central Limit Theorem for a random walk. Here the non commutative nature of the increments produces a new gradient which naturally involves a Brownian bridge on the Heisenberg group. This new inequality contains the optimal logarithmic Sobolev inequality for the Gaussian distribution in two dimensions. We compare this new inequality with the sub-elliptic logarithmic Sobolev inequality of Hong-Quan Li and with the mo…
We give curvature-dependant convergence rates for the optimization of weakly convex functions defined on a manifold of 1-bounded geometry via Riemannian gradient descent and via the dynamic trivialization algorithm. In order to do this, we give a tighter bound on the norm of the Hessian of the Riemannian exponential than the previously known. We compute these bounds explicitly for some manifolds commonly used in the optimization literature such as the special orthogonal group and the real Grassmannian. Along the way, we present self-contained proofs of fully general bounds on the norm of the d…
